[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Parivrtta Trikonasana, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. --Nahal(T) 07:58, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

Variants of asanas
[edit]Hi, and thanks for your efforts to improve Wikipedia's coverage of asanas. However, the approach that has been taken on asanas is to provide articles for each major asana, such as Trikonasana, and to describe variants, such as Parivrtta Trikonasana, in a standard 'Variations' section within the main article. This ensures that the article topics are notable, where some variants are very minor and might risk deletion as non-notable if they had their own articles. Also, I note that another editor tagged Parivrtta Trikonasana as a close paraphrase of Yoga the Iyengar Way, meaning that they felt that the choice of wording was close to being a copyright violation, something that Wikipedia is obliged to take extremely seriously. In this case, the main article at Trikonasana already has a Variations section that covers Parivrtta Trikonasana, and indeed illustrates it with the same image that you used. I've therefore redirected it to the main article. Hope this is all clear and comprehensible. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:26, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! Sorry to bother you on your talk page, but would you mind reconsidering your !vote? A number of other experienced voices have chimed in since your initial !vote, and it seems likely that given your week-long absence from the project you may not have noticed them. There were also, as I am sure you are aware, two previous consensuses against including the content in question, and it seems unlikely that the community would be willing to accept a simple majority !vote as overruling such a precedent. - No, it would be a big mistake to not remove those tags. The point Yuriko Sato is making is indeed the scholarly consensus, and we should respect that, rather than quibble with it through inaccurate tagging. Krow750 (talk) 20:53, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
The point Yuriko Sato is making is indeed the scholarly consensus
Do you have evidence for that? It seems like all the scholarly sources disagree with her, while the sources that agree with her are all self-published or non-scholarly sources... BTW, it seems increasingly like you are doing this to push some kind of bad-faith agenda -- you may want to change course. Hijiri 88 (聖やや) 01:49, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

Claims about effects of asanas
[edit]Hi, many thanks for your contributions to asana articles. However, we need to be extremely circumspect about any claimed benefits, especially where, as in Iyengar's case, no actual evidence was adduced for any of them. In Science of yoga the weak case for such claims (basically, none, with plenty of reliable evidence the other way) is presented, with discussion of the nature and purpose of different types of claim. We really can't present any of these claims in asana articles without extensive caveats, and basically we'll be better off not repeating those caveats over 100 articles, so I suggest we don't add the claims in the first place. To put this at its plainest, Iyengar is a splendid source for Iyengar's asana practice, but totally unreliable for claims of benefits. I do hope this is clear. Happy to discuss. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:06, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
- Same at Virabhadrasana - claims are not substantiated, which means "untrue", so I have reverted your addition there. Please do not continue until we have reached some sort of agreement, I have explained the position and ample evidence is available in the citations at Science of yoga. Thank you. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:13, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
User:Chiswick Chap-Hi, Thank you for your feedback. What I want to point out here is that the claims made about asanas were attributed to a source which in my view is akin to saying, so and so who is an authority, albeit arguably, has said this about the asana. I thought attributing information to a source was an acceptable convention. Having said that,I am quite aware that any unsubstantiated claim about something like yoga might be controversial, but I think when I decided to add the information, it was because many claims were already mentioned in the said article. All I did was add a few more and I made sure to cite it so that the burden of proving it is not on me. I understand and accept that such information should be looked at with care, but I am also curious to know why other claims about those poses have not been flagged. Just curious, not necessarily argumentative.Krow750 (talk) 00:30, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- There's nothing special about this case. Every scientific or medical claim on Wikipedia has to be supported by a reliable source, and in the case of medical effects that means WP:MEDRS. It requires proof via a systematic review of experimental evidence. The site you mentioned was not of that sort. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:02, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Your edits to Caged Bird
[edit]Hi Krow750,
I've reverted your additions to I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings because they did not fit where you placed them. For example, while your story about Angelou being drunk does belong in the Background section, it doesn't belong at the beginning of that paragraph. Most of the other additions you made also belong in other places. Also, please remember that this article is a featured article, so it's customary for editors to come to the talk page before making such changes, although not substantial, are important enough to get consensus before adding them. I will, however, add the content from the WA Post review to the article in the next few days. (I have a subscription to the Post, so I'll try and find the original review, which may prove helpful.)
