Rani Mukerji

Thank you for your edits, but please remember to keep neutrality. If you are discussing her career in detail in the lead, there's no need to introduce her in a particularly glorifying way, and actually glorification and gushing praise are not accepted in an encyclopedia. Thanks, ShahidTalk2me 08:37, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Good, good work, indeed!! Well done! ShahidTalk2me 12:00, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I have started the review and left some comments there. There are quite a lot of issues with the references. Also try to get the article undergo a thorough copy edit. Best wishes! Vensatry (Ping me) 09:42, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

I see no improvements in the article since the GA review. I would be failing the article, if the issues aren't fixed completely. Vensatry (Ping me) 14:14, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Shouldnt we prefer a facial closeup photo in the infobox than a full profile photo; especially when both are free images? -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 09:13, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Not good as in? Low resolution you mean? Even if it is low resolution, that image is a better portrait than this full length snap. Isnt it? -Animeshkulkarni(talk) 09:25, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Hugo

the reason i removed the long list of information on nominations for the film was because it needs to be better organised. i could have inserted a infobox here, but decided to have all the information sumed up in two or three paragraphs. that's what i was in the process of doing and didn't think anybody would have any problems. Look friend, because of so many socks and idiots, your hard word on the page may just get lost. I suggest that you watch every single edit, otherwise the current GAN's not gonna work.ShahidTalk2me 09:10, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Friend, please look over Shahid's edits carefully. He is trying to sabotage your work by removing everything you have worked hard for. I wish you the best but just tell Shahid not to work on that page and leave it alone. Your work should be recognized, not his. His only interest is Preity Zinta. He will destroy all your attempts. Also, I think we should add Rani's Saawariya image to the page: http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=rani+mukerji+stage+performance&start=95&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1173&bih=630&tbm=isch&tbnid=EmgQIGxZTXkiaM:&imgrefurl=http://www.bollywoodgossips.net/labels/film.html&docid=glSvZ7TjxcddFM&imgurl=http://www.bollywoodgossips.net/photos/albums/userpics/10001/normal_rani33.jpg&w=400&h=333&ei=CjRZT-mbJef00gHFpvS9Dw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=890&vpy=4&dur=1798&hovh=205&hovw=246&tx=206&ty=90&sig=110094796345228960974&page=5&tbnh=133&tbnw=159&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:17,s:95 It's a different get-up and she got nominated for this role. WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate fromPart One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

Refreshing Soft drink for you

Hi again. Thanks for improving the lead atKahaani. Here's some refreshing drink for you to beat the scorching summer.

The article needs further expansion and all such points can be found here.
Kahaani, I believe could be one of the fastest article to reach GA provided we cover up the points listed on its talk page.
However the Professional review table you removed can be discussed as its currently being used in many other film articles like Ra.One (a GA). What do you say?
Till then.. Keep it up and stay in touch.
--Msrag (talk) 07:47, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks and Yes, it was truly a masterpiece and deserves to be a GA along with The Dirty Picture on which you've been working hard for so long. If you didn't know TDP and Kahaani are the only two film articles on which I've worked the most so far. Other than that, I just keep trolling here and there, reverting vandalism and making various kinds of corrections. BTW, have you gone through the "To do list" for Kahaani? There's a section "Mandatory Content needed" which is the top most priority for the article. Try getting those points first. Is "Crew" not needed for the article? I know most of it is covered in infobox but there are many whose fields are not mentioned there eg., Costume Design, Executive Producers etc., How do we include them? --Msrag (talk) 08:45, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
Yep,I started liking her after Paa, adoring her after Ishqiya, TDP was too good and simply loving but Kahaani was mind-blowing. That's how she grew on me.. I sawthis with the Crew information and found it to be "Ok", "Nothing wrong with it". I guess we can add the info there for now and if pointed out in GA review, we can remove it then. Sounds good?--Msrag (talk) 09:01, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
Fine, lets leave it for now. Story development is done. I'll update it there. Kolkata motif is already there but can be further expanded. What we dont have is filming and shooting information, dates, schedules, locations etc., soundtrack album image and casting of other characters. --Msrag (talk) 09:16, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

Re:Hello

Hi Smarojit. Thanks for asking and dropping in. Yeah..All's going well in life and its just that I got really busy over past 3 weeks due to the ongoing project at my organization and couldn't edit much here. Hopefully it should get over by this weekend and I'll able to spend some editing time again though I constantly keep an eye on my articles, watchlist and talk page. And how you are doing? I see you'be been working on Agneepath for a GA. Good choice. Hey wasn't the film suppose to premier on television on Star Gold sometime. Not sure if I missed it again as I couldn't watch it in theater as well for some reasons. Sounds to be a great movie. On Kahaani, there are still some important missing content which I couldn't afford to find due to my work schedules and hence the GAN is still pending. I target to complete the pending stuffs by May end and submit for GAN. Till then Happy editing and All the Very Best for Agneepath too. Cheers..--Msrag (talk) 06:04, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Oh no. Please don't say that its "my article". I didn't do all by my own. It was definitely not possible with out yours and others (Karthik, Dwaipayanc, Classicfilms etc.,) contributions to shape up the article to its current state. Your work and understanding on images is impressive. I dont understand the logic and policies behind using images and hence I never uploaded any single image so far on Wiki. Btw, if you can spare sometime from Agneepath, there are still plenty of images to be added in Kahaani. Could you please try and get them. To name a few, they are:
  • Bob and Vidya standing on the platform, then Bob pushing Vidya.
  • There's one image of Vidya and Parambrata shooting on the streets of Kolkata.
  • There's one image of Vidya and Sujoy shooting on the streets of Kolkata.
  • There's are images of people applying sindoor on Vidya's face in the climax.
  • Few images of Vidya standing in Best buses and Kolkata Metro with a missing poster of Arnab Bagchi for promotions.
  • Next, whatever you find relevant to the article.
I was easily able to google and download all these images but as said, I dont know how to use these images. Can it be possible if I send you an email attaching all these images and you decide and upload the best which we can use without any objections (Free use, non free use, copyright violation woofff... all that crap). But all these only at your convenience, no hurries and take your time. :-) --Msrag (talk) 07:40, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Ok so 3 non-free images in total you mean. See Bob's pushing image can be used in Controversy section where it talks about that particular scene and why it was controversial for Kolkata Rail authorities to object and propose the deletion of that scene. Next, what's the limit for free images? and is there any overall limit on the total number of images to be used in an article? The two filming images can be used in Filming and development sections, Vidya's promotion images in Marketing and promotions sections and so on. I forgot to mention, Bob biswas character is an internet phenomenon now. There are various humorous images on net. May that can be used in the impact section. I think if we get a non-free image which is more relevant to the article, we can even compromise the Vidya Bagchi image used in Cast section if that conflicts with the maximum number. Coming to the purpose for every image, can't we just justify it as a visual representation of the subject matter discussed to give the user/reader a glimpse of what exactly it is. Lets say not all outside India would've seen the film, and thus they cannot visualize such stuffs when we talk about them. I think that is what an image is used for after all. But since you know better on this context, you decide over. All i thought was, Kahaani at the end of the day was being aimed for a FA (GA is just a step) and FA's do require quite a few images I guess. What say? --Msrag (talk) 09:25, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the support Smarojit. I hope everyone is convinced with that.--Msrag (talk) 06:40, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

I cannot find where is says 5 out of 5 in the Khalid Mohamed review. BollyJeff || talk 12:41, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Looking pretty good, but still needs more in production, filming, etc. I guess that journal is not so good for that after all. It uses the film, but is not really so much aboutthe film. I still haven't decided if its worth using. We have to do some more digging for sources. BollyJeff || talk03:16, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
That article has some good stuff about NRIs and how they want to remember India (p153, 156-157), and especially about Hrithik's character (p162). The Religion and Film source you added has some good stuff about viewing the father as a god (p77) and so on, which was one of the main points of the film. BollyJeff|| talk 16:00, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
No rush. School comes first. What else do you think is needed that I can do?BollyJeff || talk18:14, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Yes it looks very good now. You can do the honors since you are almost done with your Rani review. I think that I am far from finished on my Krrish review.BollyJeff | talk 12:08, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
The quote "steals the thunder from under very high noses" in the Kajol picture caption needs a citation. Also, you seem to reformat many citations that I make usingReflinks. If you think it is not working correctly, maybe you should contact the author. BollyJeff | talk 11:56, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
They are still not consistent. Some are like 14 May 2012, while some are like 2012-05-15. This is in the citation section, not the text (I think the ones showing in the text are okay, maybe have a look). A while back there was an editor going around saying that your should not change the style of dates. I had changed all dates in an article to d m year style with a script, but they insisted to change back the ones not showing in the text section to y-m-d style, which is the way the reflinks script does them. Painting by Gaganendranath in Kahaani

Yeah, I looked up the painting after reading Ghosh's comment. The painting is osadharon. Indeed even the poster of the film seems to be inspired by the painting.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:03, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Well, I always thought you are Bengali from your name. However, after writing the wordosadharon in your talkpage, I went to see your page and did not find any clue to corroborate my idea! Probasee Bangali?--Dwaipayan(talk) 04:29, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
I am totally Calcatian though probasee for last some years. Anyway, nice to interact with you as well. You seem to be a prolific and quality contributor to Indian cinema articles. Let's hope Kahaani will get to featured article status in several months.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:39, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Well, awards section is not a necessary prerequisite for FA, as the ceremonies are not held yet. Addition of awards in future will not be contrary to the FA criteria of "stability". That being said, even the development of other sections might not be complete before the award ceremonies!
One thing that I have always envied in some film articles is how engrossing they read. Have you read Tenebrae (film)? I do not know if its condition deteriorated over years, but when it was a FA nominee, it was a superbly engrossing read. Another entertaining read wasManos: The Hands of Fate although it was not that much well-developed. The advantage those captivating articles have is they often use excellent books as source. Unfortunately we miss such books for most of Indian cinema articles. Barring Anupama Chopra's book onSholay I can not readily remember any other book discussing individual Bollywood films (probably there was one for Lagaan). There are books on Satyajit Ray's films, and I used some of them while developing the article Pather Panchali, but lost steam in the midway :(--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:01, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For your excellent work, often in the face of adversity, in making Rani Mukerji a GA. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:45, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I see you're working on Kajol. I may be able to help out on that one. 2000s to present needs a lot of work. Out of curiosity do you use google books at all for research because there's a surprising amount you'll find. And with a google book instant ref maker,http://reftag.appspot.com/ , very handy! I was able to find enough scraps on Mother Indiain google books to make it a GA!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:10, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

If you want you can actually programme your User:Dr. Blofeld/monobook.js like mine to actually create the google book ref maker link in your top itenery alongside history, move, watch., wikilove etc. let me know what skin and browser you use and I'll show you. It makes it much easier. I have google books open in another tab and simply paste the url in. That's how I'm able to generate so many references so quickly like I did with say Damietta recently. It would allow you to be more productive and efficient I think. Also have you applied for Highbeam Research and JSTOR? Undoubtedly they will add to the comprehension of articles.09:26, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

I take its that's a no then. It would help considerably...♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:09, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

What wiki skin and internet browser do you use?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:19, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

OK, copy and paste the following in the box on the User:Smarojit/vector.js page:

 addOnloadHook(function() {
 addPortletLink('p-cactions','http://reftag.appspot.com/','GB ref','ca-gb ref');
 });

Save it. Now press the reload button,Appears to be the curved arrow at the beginning of your url address. Or might be hold down ctrl, Shift and R keys together, although it says for Chrome just press the reload button to get it to work. Visit a new page and you should now see a new item on your itinary. Done? Gb ref should now appear when you hover over the down arrow next to the search box for quick access. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:27, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Now copy this and paste it in either above or below the gb-ref one and do the same for easy linkage to google books.

 addOnloadHook(function() {
 addPortletLink('p-cactions','http://books.google.com//','GB','ca-gb');
 });

That should make researching much easier.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:40, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Awesome. If you haven't already you should also apply for access to Highbeam and JSTOR which might have a mass of newspaper articles or documents related to Indian film.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:46, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

One more thing. If you paste say http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=CgwsAQAAIAAJ&q=Kajol&dq=Kajol&hl=en&sa=X&ei=sJ3IT9Ym08rxA5XCmc4P&ved=0CGQQ6AEwCTgK into google ref maker and click load you need to click "or" next to the author name to get the surname to appear first which is how it should be done and you will need to enter in the page number where it says if a snippet and it doesn't do it automatically for you. Happy editing. I'll look into the Kajol article in a few days..♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:49, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

I just typed Kajol into the Highbeam search engine and it turned up 1476 newspaper articles and others on Kajol like the Hindustan Times etc.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:52, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Apply for highbeam access at Wikipedia:HighBeam/Applications, you'll find is equally as valuable when researching Indian films and actors I'm sure.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:54, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

No you don't! This is what I'm saying, if you put your name down on the applications list and explain your editing/purpose you get access the full articles for free, per an agreement between wikipedia and highbeam. The waiting list usually takes a few weeks for you to be granted it but well worth it..♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:57, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, the key to great articles are research of course and having an abundance of sources at your fingertips to choose from. Once you get the access you can also link the Highbeam site as a third link like google books and refmaker. Hope this helps you, Itook the time to help you as you are showing considerable promise as an editor of Indian cinema and for the most part we're lacking quality editors working on it. Not surprised me good friend Shahid supports you too! Regards!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:07, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi

Why do you say that you cannot edit much longer? You are still waiting for Kajol to be reviewed. I collaborated with another editor to get Mughal-e-Azam to GA, but there were plans to try and get some articles to FA for the 2013 so-called anniversary of Indian cinema, and this was one of them. I really don't know how much more I can do on it though. I would like to try and get an FA, but not sure what it takes. I am not too excited to work on new articles now either, but I am somewhat addicted to keeping my large watch list clean from vandalism, so I do visit Wikipedia several times most days. Good potential for FA

I think you should work on Vidya Balan. She has a good potential to improve further towards features status. A first step would be consistency of reference style, and how they appear.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:12, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

I feel it is comprehensive. The article does not have to mention every little detail to be comprehensive. The consistency of references is, however, vital for FAC. As of now, the references have too many inconsistencies. Some examples, some references have location of publications, some do not (I think it is much easier to delete all the location of publications). In at least one reference, I saw CNN-IBN in italics; it should be regular. Then there are overlinking in reference section. Some sources are wikilinked multiple times CNN-IBN will again be one such example). All author names should follow the same pattern (most in the article follow last name, first name style, but some do not).--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:57, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
You are an awesome editor. You deserve this! --Plea$ant 1623 14:58, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Vidya Balan reference formats

  • Follow a pattern for naming websites. Rediff.com is in italics once, regular at another instance, but sify.com is regualr. Either italicize all website names, or none (there is no specific suggested guideline for websites in MoS; and it is suggested to decide on a case by case basis. However, it is ideal to follow a consistent pattern in a given article).
  • Also, "MiD DAY" is probably unacceptable per capitalisation rules in MoS. Unless it is a very well known brand (eBay), you have to follow capitals rules, and it should be Mid Day (unless you want to put a case for Mid Day that MiD DAY is the common use, like eBay).
  • Celeb Diary: Vidya Balan ---> Celeb diary: Vidya Balan.
  • "Stand-Out Act Four not-so-new newcomers have found ..." --->Stand-out act four not-so-new..."

Same in the next 2 reference. (references 21 and 22 in this version)

I could check thus far.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:55, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

There are still quite a few instance of wrong capital letter use. For example, in sentence case (the style you are using), the word after colon starts with small-letter, not capital letters, unless it's of course capital letter is indicated for other grammatical reasons (such as a name of something or someone).

Also, Best Actress etc would be best actress (unless Best is at the beginning of a sentence).

Ref 56 has date in italics.

Kahaani Review would be Kahaani review.

Mehta, S., Jahagirdar-Saxena, S., Modak, N. & Sah M. I am not sure whether the ampersand can be used in such a way. Also, "Sah, M."

I checked some references by random sampling. More later, bye.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:35, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Ref 30 ( Hollywood Reporter) is leading to a 404 error under google. Also, if you retain that reference, "Inc" should be removed from the name. Use of Inc, Ltd etc are discouraged in MoS.--Dwaipayan (talk) 12:25, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Balan, next

Ok. The references look consistent now ( well, there may be minor inconsistencies that we are not picking up now, but we can disregard those for now).

Now, perhaps the most important part in the prose for FAC-- the lead. The lead not only needs to be completely free of errors, but also at least nice, if not exemplary, to read. So, go through the lead, and see if you need to change any basic grammar. Then look for repetition of words ( this makes reading monotonous). Think if the prose can be made more attractive.

Ideally all sections should read very nice, but often this is extremely hard to achieve for us, given that we are not native speaker of English. But at least the text should be error-free. Do you have script for checking duplicate links? If not, install it from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ucucha/duplinks. Check for duplicate links in the article .--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:13, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

one example of repetitive word in the lead is "received". Have to restructure some sentences to get rid of some receieved.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:18, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
Yes,,the lead reads better now. You can go through the text and try to think if the prose can be improved. Besides the prose quality, the article IMO might be ready for FAC.--Dwaipayan (talk) 13:18, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
Add alternative text for images. You can add one more image in the article, may be the image of celebration party of Kahaani that appears in the article Kahaani.--Dwaipayan (talk) 13:25, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
The career section, especially the middle subsection, does read somewhat monotonous. I dont have any idea right now how to make it less monotonous, except for further summarization. You can consult some other actor/actress FAs. We have only one actor from India (Preity Zinta) as FA. Check Hollywood/other actors.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:59, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Balan, continues

I did some copyedits. Say if you do not agree with any of the changes. I have seen in FACs that "while" is a word they often object to. Similarly, noun plusing is another aspect that we should avoid. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tony1/Noun_plus_-ing. --Dwaipayan (talk) 06:40, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Looks ok. There may be other prose issues which is beyond our ability to catch. You can probably go ahead with the nomination, if you feel so.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:02, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Yes, now wait. And the wait may be quite long, as the regulars in FAC are less likely to gravitate towards this article quickly. Will have comments, eventually. --Dwaipayan (talk) 19:27, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Ash

Hi,

Taal might not be a blockbuster but was a notable and imp film in her career. She & priyanka chopra did better acting work being a model compared to other actresses in the industry today. I am not trying to prove that she is best actresses ever in the industry. Who cares? every one have good films and bad. and no one can prove that she is a bad actress as well. You did good work for other actresses articles but have never seen trying to improve Ash page. IT's all few people who actually dictate the rules here what should be mentioned and what not. Anyway Kudos for your work.
