GOCE Drive wrap-up
Guild of Copy Editors January 2012 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter. Participation 45 people signed up for this drive this time; of these, 35 participated. This is similar to the number of editors who helped out in November. Thanks to all who participated! Barnstars will be distributed in the near future. Progress report Recent drives have been focusing on the oldest three months in the backlog. During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—July, August, and September 2010—from the queue, and there are less than 300 articles remaining from 2010. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators. Thank you for participating in the January 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy edit drive will be in March. Your drive coordinators – The Utahraptor talk, S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk), Stfg (Talk), Sp33dyphil (talk), and Dank (talk) |

Disambiguation link notification for July 6
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited History of Alton Towers, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dark Ages (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of GrabCAD
Thank you! I'm new to the wiki editing tools so give me a few hours, but I will make it more fact based and less marketing going forward.
Thanks again, Bobby
I saw it on my watchlist today and it looks very improved. Nice job. kikichugirl (talk) 21:28, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you! The page still needs a lot of work, but it's getting there. I don't have a ton of time to spend on the page everyday, but I'll make sure it continues to improve every week. I'm getting some additional information from the company to add to the page. Unfortunately I can't upload a logo yet since I'm new to Wikipedia. Do you know when I'll have that capability?
I appreciate your help, and I'm open to any feedback you have.

- You have to make sure that the logo you're uploading is either fair use or a free image. Make sure you're not violating anyone's copyright or the image will probably be speedy deleted. To upload images, you need to have 4 edits and 10 days' registration to be autoconfirmed (there will be a link in your toolbox called Upload file) or you don't have to be autoconfirmed to use Files for upload. -kikichugirl (talk) 19:34, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Declined speedy
Thanks for working on cleaning up so many pages! I declined your WP:CSD#A1 nomination of Dick Leibert because the first (okay, *only*) sentence (okay, phrase) actually does state who this person was. I'm not sure it would survive AfD on grounds of notability though. DMacks (talk) 04:31, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. I wonder if it would satisfy CSD A7: Unremarkable musician or band though? Should I re-nominate? --kikichugirl (talk) 04:37, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- Based on what I read about the place/instrument where he worked, I think the article does make a claim of notability that is credible and sounds impressive in its realm. Without references, it's hard to tell--a ref for him at all might reveal reviews of his performances to satisfy WP:BAND or at least that he had a substantial impact on the famous institution. Musical performance isn't my field, so I don't really know where to look for these types of refs (if indeed they exist:( DMacks (talk) 04:45, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- I see. Perhaps I'll wait a few days and nominate for AfD or PROD then. I still think his notability is questionable, though. --kikichugirl (talk) 05:05, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

About "Gram Tangra"
Hi Kikichugirl! It's a real populated place in West Bengal state, India, though admittedly that was hard to tell from the original state of the article, so your tagging was very understandable. There's a policy somewhere that all populated places are inherently notable. I'm working on it. Pete aka --Shirt58 (talk) 12:35, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm new here. Could I ask which part of the article was unacceptable? Essentially the position of Senior Minister Emeritus has never existed in our country before. - Oops, I didn't answer your question. Yes, you can change it back to Dantanna, but most BLPs go by their full name, though Lady Gaga is an exception. The original article title redirects to it. I moved the page because I thought it would make more sense. — kikichugirl inquire 07:26, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
My new changes
First, i wanna thank u for helping me with my first article! You're awesome... Could you please check out the new adjustments and changes i've made today and tell me exactly if i need to do something and what? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Donald McCary (talk • contribs) 16:48, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- @Donald McCary: Have you been reading what I wrote on the article's talk page? Please do. You need more inline citations and wikilinks from third-party sources such as newspaper coverage about this person to indicate notability. Your article is also very short. What else did he do? In his earlier life, where was he educated? I suggest splitting up your main "biography" section into an early life section (background about him) and another section about his discography, achievements etc (what did he do). You need to find something to prove that he exists that isn't his own website (WP:third-party sources), so maybe another person online talking about him. Unsourced biographies of living people can still be deleted under WP:BLPPROD. When you've made these changes, even if they're not perfect, then I'll take a look because now I feel like I'm repeating myself. Let me know if you have questions, though.
- Also, like I've said, please click "edit" next to the things above that you wrote and hit enter instead of starting a new section every time - this keeps my page from getting long. So you could have hit edit here or here. Also, please don't forget to sign your posts using four tildes! — kikichugirl inquire 18:29, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

The page you tagged as "speedy deletion" in fact meets WP notability standards, as the subject has been nominated for an AVN award, and is sourced. This information was in the article when you sloppily tagged it. I suggest you withdraw your tag. Thank you. Herzlicheboy (talk) 20:27, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- I withdrew it because I see a reference now, but if his only claim to notability is the award and that is the only information in it, it may be subject to AfD. In the future, I recommend you draft first before submitting to avoid quick deletion tags.
In addition, some of it may violate WP:UNDUE. — kikichugirl inquire 20:34, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

RE: Guelph Community Christian School
This page is not unambiguously promotional, because ... 1. a major criterion for being accepted as a Wikipedia article is that the subject is notable. I have indicated details about the school that make it notable. It is hard to indicate what is notable without sounding promotional. 2. "Promotional" to me suggests misleading or spurious. What statement in this article could possibly be misleading or spurious? Broadcastinglive2 (talk) 20:23, 4 August 2013 (UTC) Contested deletion[edit source]
This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... of recent edits --Broadcastinglive2 (talk) 20:35, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- @Broadcastinglive2: I don't see any message on your talk page. Could you be more specific please? And promotional means that you are touting the organization's awesomeness or how good it is. If information is misleading it's more of a hoax than promotional material. And WP:N does not mean that it is good. Just that it cannot fail WP:SIGCOV and needs WP:RS. There has to be a lot of people talking about it, not necessarily a lot of people saying good things about it. Hope this helps. — kikichugirl inquire 20:49, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest
I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:48, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
