Welcome back, Lord Khazar2! Your humble servants have watched your domain, and it is ready for your taking. We are back, and we shall be powerful!

- Just read through the thread on Jimbo's talk page. I must agree, many editors don't understand how grievous an insult accusations of plagiarism are in academia, probably because all they get in high school is a slapped wrist. (Not necessarily the editor who made the accusations at you, but quite a few I've met don't get the problem). Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:36, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- For sure. I've actually seen a friend's career largely ended because of sloppy research that shaded into plagiarism concerns, and it's left me forever erring on the side of paranoia. But reversing that, former academic types like me need to learn that in Wikispeak, it can mean anything from "let's clean up some potential close paraphrasing concerns" to "we are about to ban you"--and it's better to assume the former than the latter. =) Khazar2 (talk) 00:49, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Easier for one's peace of mind, I must say. Indonesians don't generally care about stuff like that though, which is what makes training good editors from Indonesia so difficult. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:56, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I used to have the same problem with exchange students in my classes all the time. No matter how much I threatened at the start of term, South Asian, East Asian, and African students would much more commonly cut-and-paste. Part of it was a nervousness about second-language, I think, but part of it was just cultural; non-US schools seem to take a very different approach. (Though admittedly, my US students might have been plagiarizing just as much, but disguising their tracks better; I busted my share of them, too.) It led to a lot of tough decisions about who to fail, but I usually ended up allowing rewrites from scratch in cases where cultural differences seemed to be a contributing factor. Khazar2 (talk) 02:01, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- I don't doubt it. I've seen a grade 1 student do copy and past as well, helped by her mother... Argh Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:08, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Can we contribute to the Bianet page
Dear Khazar2, first of all, thanks for your quick edit on Özgür Gündem. As you might have noticed, there is still no page for Bianet despite its significant contributions to human rights issues in Turkey; and the information is widely available [1]. I myself do not really know how to start a new article (so far only contributed by editing). I hope you may help me on that. Kind regards, Devenirchaud (talk) 02:56, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for posting about this case in the first place! I was the OG article's original creator, but I haven't done a good job of keeping up with it. Bianet sounds like a worthwhile topic. The best place to start is to gather some reliable sources discussing it to make sure it meets the WP:GNG. These sources can be either in English or in Turkish (if you happen to speak the latter--I don't, sadly). You might also find this guide Wikipedia:Starting an article helpful. I'm going to be offline much of the next week to do a bit of "real life" writing, but after that I'd be glad to help. Let me know how it goes, and do ask if you have any questions. I'm happy to hear you're going to take the step of creating a first article! Khazar2 (talk) 03:08, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- P.S. If this is an area of interest to you, have you thought about joining WP:WikiProject Human Rights? We're always on the lookout for more editors, and we'd be glad for the help... Khazar2 (talk) 03:08, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

.. in more human rights related articles, I can make a short list of Bahrain-related human rights articles (who have sufficient notability) with sources and both of us could work on it. Mohamed CJ (talk) 11:11, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- It'd be a pleasure. I'm semi-busy for the next two weeks wrapping up the last of my academic obligations, but give me the list whenever you like; I would love to write some more about this. I think we make a good team! Cheers, Khazar2 (talk) 15:46, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Maldives situation
Dear Khazar.
Thank you for contacting me about the article on "Mohamed Nasheed". However, I must regretfully decline to accept your version of the story as that is not the whole truth. The original article is not what it was before when President Nasheed became president. People are concerned that the version you have put up is not the truth. What has been inserted into that article has substantial evidence which we know led to a coup d'etat. Unfortunately most of the referencing material is in dhivehi and therefore of no value to readers of other languages. Therefore I kindly ask you to state the facts in the article as it really should be and not to fabricate the coup as something that did not happen. As a human rights lawyer, I am much disappointed that the situation in Maldives has not been portrayed as it is happening infront of our eyes. If you want further proof of the government's brutality, which I am most sure you are aware of, then please refer to the Amnesty International Report that was released sometime in March 2012. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aashraf2 (talk • contribs) 20:35, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Aashraf, thanks for being willing to discuss. Like you, I'm a human rights worker, and I'm also concerned with getting the facts as correct as possible. But as you know, it's complicated in a case like this when the facts themselves are under dispute. The way Wikipedia usually solves such problems is to include both perspectives of a dispute. For example, if someone alleges that they were tortured, but the government alleges that they weren't, we have to say "John X alleges that he was tortured, but these reports were denied by the government." If, for example, Amnesty International agrees that there was a military coup, we could include that at the article, but we'd have to say "Amnesty International stated..." We can't just assume that everything that Nasheed says is true and everything Waheed says is a lie; we have to simply report what both sides have said. Does this help explain my changes?
- Please understand that it's nothing personal against Nasheed; I don't know much about this situation beyond the sources of the article, and from what I've read, I like Nasheed quite a bit. I just need to make sure we're proportionately representing the arguments of both sides. Let's move this dicussion to the article talk page from here on out; I've listed some of my specific problems there. Khazar2 (talk) 20:42, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- And by the way, Dhivehi-language sources may still be allowable. You can ask at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard if a given source would be a WP:Reliable Source under WP guidelines. This would be an excellent way to expand the article. Khazar2 (talk) 20:44, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Dear Khazar,
Thank you for your reply. Much appreciate it. However, the emphasis of the Maldivians who do read up on this issue is that the article was a different version than the one that was uploaded before the coup d'etat. However, the article has appeared to be substantially altered from facts into allegations once the coup had taken place. We Maldivians are quite puzzled as to why such a sudden change should take place in such a short period of time. But nevertheless, the international press and inquiries as well as the Commonwealth have issued reports that the change of power took place in very dubious circumstances. However, the greater issue with us readers is that the proper facts are not being presented for others to read. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aashraf2 (talk • contribs) 20:53, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- With due respect, Aashraf2, the Maldives is clearly divided over this issue, and in any case, we must go to reliable sources. Please address the specific issues I've raised on the article's talk page. For example, I do not understand why you insist that there must be duplicate sections on the resignation under "Presidency" and "resignation." Khazar2 (talk) 21:03, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Fascinating woman, with a work-in-progress article that needs a little TLC (of course, it's definitely going to find itself at T:TDYK, so if that would be too stressful I wouldn't blame you if you weren't interested in expanding it).
- Side note, thanks for showing your appreciation for the April Fool's hooks :-) Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:12, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- I'd love to take a look. As you say, I won't be active with it when it goes to DYK--I'm hoping to stay out of all meta-wiki areas for a while and try to focus on pure content generation--but don't let that stop you! I'm arm-deep in Malian coup/insurgency news these days, but I should be on it later today. Khazar2 (talk) 17:49, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- Heard about that... terrible. Speaking of human rights cases and murdered journalists, have you ever heard of Udin, a reporter who worked for Bernas and was highly critical of the regent of Bantul? His murder was fairly high profile in the mid 1990s (if I remember correctly), and I have two books on the case. Might be an interesting collaboration. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:49, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds right up my alley. Sometime in the next few days I might see what I can scrape up from Google News on him, too. Khazar2 (talk) 01:51, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

I took a look at Sarumpaet--fascinating woman indeed, and kudos for creating this article. It's really terrific the way you're expanding Indonesian coverage here. And, unsurprisingly, this article looks great. The only suggestion I have of any substance is to re-jigger the sections a bit. "Biography" is very long, and two short sections at the end have context that would be valuable earlier, especially the details about the Marsinah case. I think giving context there is important to show the growth of her early activism. I was more torn about where her kids should go, but it seems like at least her marriage should be mentioned before her divorce. Please don't hesitate to undo all of that, though; I tried to save the biggest changes for the end so that would be easy to do. Anyway, thanks for the preview! Khazar2 (talk) 06:26, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds good, I'll try to rejig it and not keep inspirations / themes separate; after I create a lead (tonight), I plan on moving it to article space and then nominating it for GA and DYK (like Jamila, LOL). Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:34, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
Articles for deletion
Hello, please notify article creators when you nominate one of their articles for deletion, using {{Afd notice}}. I just did this for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Africa & Science, which I've naturally supported. Graham87 15:08, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. It's kind of you to do that, but honestly, since AfD considers this to be an optional step (it's not in the instructions, or even mentioned on the page), I usually skip it. The articles I nominate tend so often to be the work of single-purpose, probable-COI accounts that I feel that if they've chosen not to keep working on Wikipedia after writing their non-notable article, they've voluntarily forfeited the right to defend that article. Not that I mind you doing it, of course. Anyway, thanks for the notice at WP:WikiProject Africa that got my attention in the first place. Looking forward to working more with you in the future! - Ha, thanks. I feel like much as in Godwin's law, "As an Wikipedia discussion grows longer, the probability of someone being told "you are the reason Wikipedia is a laughingstock" approaches 1." I thought about posting it as Khazar's Law, but I've unfortunately heard the rumor that Wikipedia has some sort of notability requirements... Khazar2 (talk) 04:07, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

- Sure, I don't have any strong opinions here. I believe both are in the Coup article now, so the info's definitely in the wiki. - I'd love to help, but I'm pretty determined to stay clear of politically charged areas of WP at this point. =) (by which I mean Wikipedia politics, not "real world"). I am enjoying working on this ITN story, though, so hopefully we'll run into each other on some more of these. As for Timbuctu, it seems clear that the city has fallen, but you're right that we should be cautious about saying that the region has. Khazar2 (talk) 16:50, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- I was the same on Palestinian issues, but DYK (other than the said issue) is safe now. Usually i take election articles and hence ran into RJFF a lot. ALso if youre interest on this you should check the MNLA article and even Ancar Dine (though i havent gone there yet as im trying to postpone if there would be an arguement on not on moving the page. Most sources call it Ansar Dine, which is also the common Arabic transliteration of other such groups in Pakistan, etc)
- Taoudenni only has news initalian and i have no clue ;)Lihaas (talk) 16:54, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I agree with you, and therefore am being bold and moving it. Given the huge disparity of Google results, I can't imagine anyone complaining. Thanks for the suggestion. Khazar2 (talk) 17:44, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- Cool...guess we can go through the bitch work of changing the names on here and the MNLA page (and that page) tomorrow. Though there was one query...Ansar Dine or Ansar al-Din? Just ran into that (as linked above)
- As an aside, was just thinking, if it wasnt for the deaths, etc it would be quite an ironic comedy of errors since Azawad in Mali was taken in less than 3 months and Libya took months WITH intervention and airpower. (no wonder libyas no where near stable and wont be for a while...that election this summer will be far from a democratic show that Tunisia and Egypt were)(Lihaas (talk) 18:06, 1 April 2012 (UTC)).
- (edit conflict)So far I believe NYT, BBC, and Al-J prefer "Ansar Dine". I could be misremembering, however. Perhaps you might propose this at Talk:Ansar Dine so we can get more opinions? I'm fine with how it is now, though. And yes, the Malian situation definitely has its black comedy angle. The fact that the coup to protest poor war management immediately lost half of the country is enough irony right there. Khazar2 (talk) 18:10, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- There are no intermediate refs, so it s odd to have this redundancy(Lihaas (talk) 18:07, 1 April 2012 (UTC)).

- Honestly, my preference is to leave it. Let's see if anyone else on the page takes a crack at it; this is likely to get several thousand viewers before the day is over. Khazar2 (talk) 18:27, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- Woops...another cockup. Seems like the govt re-retook the city the next day...still dont know when it firmed in control of the rebels but latest sources says it has.
- btw- any word on the MNLA vs. AD saga? Today the MNLA said it would govern with AD...confusing that. I suspect, personally, its that society there is conservative Muslim anyways and the MNLA is the intl arm that doesnt want to get the bad press of an "islamist" group, while it also wants to cater to popular sentiment.Lihaas (talk) 18:31, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, it seems like the situation was very fluid--hard to fix those dates. As for MNLA/AD connections, they do seem to be hand-in-hand for the moment, but the cracks are definitely showing--pulling down each other's flags, etc. Scary to think that this might be headed for further civil war. - But you seem to speak french a little (probs were both as bad ;)) but any take on the status of niafunke from these: [57][58](Lihaas (talk) 18:42, 1 April 2012 (UTC)).
- Or maybedemocratic politcs like egypt../tunisia...that wont be bad.
Khazar2 (talk) 18:35, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- btw- for the quote part i dont feel comfortable reverting per edit wars/3rr, even though you agree, as some one may accuse of 3rr. could you do it?(Lihaas (talk) 18:24, 1 April 2012 (UTC)).
The second source states "Les attaques de ces dernières villes inquiètent les populations de Tombouctou, une région jusque-là épargnée après la reprise de Niafunké par l’ armée régulière en février dernier" which translates as "The attacks on these last cities worry the people of Timbuctu, a region almost spared after the retaking of Niafunke by the regular army last February." I'm not 100% sure what "last February" means in this context, but I assume it has to be Feb 2012 given other information about the insurgency. So it's all a bit vague, but probably just solid enough to be included. Khazar2 (talk) 18:57, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, disappointing that the editor wouldn't just search the article for the word "defected" and resolve her own issue, but it is a good idea to repeat the citation in both places; this article is very fluid and this avoids the possibility of the citation disappearing. In the true spirit of these events, you can consider me a de facto member of WP Azawad, if not an official one. But I think it'll be at least a month before I'm confident enough in the long-term existence of Azawad to start laying that kind of Wikipedia infrastructure for it. Khazar2 (talk) 15:40, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- True enough, but were in th eprocess of making and organising this so i thought it fit to create the page.
- Also http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Azawadi_declaration_of_independence&diff=486378372&oldid=486365016 good spot] on th emissing insurgency link...but the MNLA link is now altogether removed?Lihaas (talk) 08:44, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- Not sure what you mean; the MNLA link is still in the first sentence of the article, isn't it? I just edited so it wouldn't appear in back-to-back sentences. Khazar2 (talk) 08:53, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
List of Final Destination characters
Thank you for revising the article. Regarding the references "Gallman One" and "Gallman Two", they are two different sources named "Gallman" to ease citing sources with the same author. The "One" and "Two" are citing which film the source is criticizing (e.g. One = Final Destination, Two = Final Destination 2, etc.) The same goes for some footnotes. The reason why I came here is because I want to ask your permission if I can revert it back. Thank you! - FDJoshua22 03:03, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Joshua, by all means change it back if that seems best. I was mostly editing "fellow classmate" down to "classmate" on a variety of articles, and was letting AWB have its way with citation condensing as well. Thanks for double-checking my work! Khazar2 (talk) 03:37, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Oh...okay. Thanks! Keep up those human rights-related activities anyways! - FDJoshua22 06:19, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
A brownie for you!
Thank you for being bold and removing that timeline from the NOW article. It's been on my watchlist to work on for what feels like forever...(oh the on-going Wikipedia to-do list). I was happy to see the timeline go for not only MOS reasons but, I trust your confirmation on the copyright vio. Thank you! Sarah (talk) 04:31, 10 April 2012 (UTC) |
- You're very welcome! The article definitely needs work beyond that--on first glance, there didn't seem to be much there not coming from NOW itself. I'll watchlist it, and if you ever do get it, I'll be sure to swing by and lend a hand as well. Khazar2 (talk) 04:34, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, I just saw you listed the same concerns right above me. Perhaps I'll use your sources as a starting point sometime soon; it's a shame an org this important to US history doesn't have a better article. Khazar2 (talk) 04:35, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

- Sounds good. I know one of the editors of Bernas (one of my lecturers), maybe the paper'd like to supply a book or political cartoon. Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:55, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- I talked to them, but the head editor is out of the country right now so no reply yet. I did get a picture of the building though. Oh yeah, apparently the Yogyakarta police think the case is closed... Bernas apparently attempted to pressure them to reopen the case through legal action. Oh, to have my hands on that court decision... Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:22, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Future plan
As a favor, can you update the section header to just "Future" and not "Plans" on state highway articles?. WP:USRD/STDS specifies that as the section header name for articles on state highways in the US. Thanks! Imzadi 1979 → 04:22, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- Will do. Thanks for pointing me to these guidelines; I didn't realize we had a style guide for this. Cheers, Khazar2 (talk) 04:24, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- Same thing for railway articles, please. "Plans" on its own could refer to the surveyors' drawings made when the line was built, etc. If you really think "Future plans" is tautologous, could it be "Future" instead? (Personally, I'd just leave it as "Future plans".) -- Alarics (talk) 09:35, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- Will do--your point makes sense, and my apologies for any trouble I've caused. Khazar2 (talk) 12:58, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- Why are you changing "future plans" to "plans"? Future plans are not the only type of plan to exist, as another editor above points out. Britmax (talk) 11:27, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Well, to venture an answer to your presumably rhetorical question, "future plans" is one of the most famous redundancies in English. (see [59], Redundancy_(linguistics), etc.) I see Alarics' argument for how it would be better to change certain headers to "Future", however, per her/his point and the style guide Imzadi cites above. I'll give this some more thought but most likely leave these in peace from now on. Khazar2 (talk) 12:58, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

You, sir, are a content machine! Khazar2 (talk) 01:49, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

- Hey Khazar, that does look like a pretty good article--I'd be willing to do the review (once it's nominated, of course). As far as content review processes go, WP:GAN is pretty stress free (usually). Compared to some of the drama that gets stirred up at DYK and FAC, at least. The only real downside is the enormous backlog, that and there are a few reviewers who are really hard to please (they're thankfully a minority though). Mark Arsten (talk) 04:23, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah. Unless the reviewer knows you're going to be going to FAC with the article... Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:42, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

- Yeah, it's weird, but I'm not too worried about it. I'd also be surprised if M's point holds, but who knows, maybe she/he's seeing something helpful that we're not and it'll become clearer later. I'm game for doing more research if you think we could take a run at FAC. Perhaps I'll poke around some academic databases. Another possible stop would be some Indonesian-language newspapers; we're a bit overreliant on the Jakarta Post, probably. Khazar2 (talk) 15:17, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Alright, I've passed it as a GA. Of course a dispute broke out on the review, I had just finished telling you that doesn't happen on good article reviews... - I know! Just goes to show, one can find useful information in some strange places. Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:50, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

A kitten for you!
A kitten will take your mind off Fibro-fog and allow you to edit in patterns and rhythms. Watch this kitten while listening to this number by Nujabes which has been likened to a kitten unrolling a ball of wool. Happy editing & wishing you painless days & nights!
AshLin (talk) 06:49, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Ha! Thanks, AshLin. My wife and I have actually been thinking about getting a new kitten to go with our new baby, but this will do well to tide me over. Khazar2 (talk) 08:08, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Lovely! How is the expectant family? - I just mentioned you here, look for Precious or human rights or hope. - I copied your comment about the Easter egg tree to its author, but perhaps you want to add, from returning to returning ;) perhaps also add to the retired one whom I don't know but see that it's a great loss, - "losing the best", I said so last July, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:20, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- I will do that--and thanks! Mrs. Khazar is a bit under the weather today, and doing a lot of good-natured grumbling from the couch. But broadly speaking, she and our daughter-to-be are doing great. It's exciting stuff. Khazar2 (talk) 08:32, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Agree, nothing compares to the greatest on earth, a new human, - repeating hope, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:09, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Question
Do you like literature? I've done a bit on a lesbian-themed short story collection (which is another area which needs development, although not explicitly related to human rights) and I'd be happy to translate a couple for you if you're interested. Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:14, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Definitely interested. Sent a message to your wikipedia mail. Khazar2 (talk) 20:52, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Replied twice. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:57, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Tajul Muluk
Well, I think that's enough. BTW, check this out Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:35, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the assist on that one--much appreciated. And I saw that note. Pretty cool... Khazar2 (talk) 23:39, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- I guess we can make a difference, even if its just raising public awareness of a case. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:59, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Absolutely. One thing I've noticed over the past few years, too, is the increasing reliance of journalists on Wikipedia. (There were a lot of humorous blog posts about the panic on the day of the SOPA blackout). By providing a ready-made list of references on a case like Murder of Udin, Tajul Muluk, etc., I think we make those subjects more attractive for bloggers, smaller human rights groups, and journalists, allowing for more coverage. Khazar2 (talk) 18:32, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- Not to mention citizen journalists, a vocation several nations are developing. 23:03, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
