Username

[edit]

Hello! I am glad to see that you have registered as a user and want to help develop Wikipedia. This is a great project and it is very rewarding to contribute to it. However, I want to caution you that you may want to take a different username rather than Anderssonpublishing. Please see WP:CORPNAME, which tells what kind of usernames not to use; one of the forbidden name types is "Usernames that unambiguously consist of a name of a company, group, institution or product". Don't worry, you are not in any kind of trouble over this, because you have not tried to promote any company. But still, sooner or later someone is going to object to this name, and IMO it would be better to choose a different username, after first reading Wikipedia:Username policy. If you want, you can go through the Wikipedia:Changing username process, but it is also OK to simply create a new registration under a new username. If you want any advice about a username, just ask me - here or at my talk page. --MelanieN (talk) 19:42, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:John Maclean at the Great Falls of the Potomac.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:John Maclean at the Great Falls of the Potomac.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 12:13, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Anderssonpublishing. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to John N. Maclean, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Anderssonpublishing. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Anderssonpublishing|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Whpq (talk) 12:14, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DEAR Whpg, you are indeed mistaken. I did in the past provide services such as writing and website development for John N. Maclean. I no longer provide those services to him; he is still a friend. I grew tired of viewing the warnings on his author page that his wiki content had problems. I have provided editing of his wiki page AT NO CHARGE and without any consultation whatever with him or his family or his editors. There is absolutely NO "undisclosed financial compensation" here. He doesn't even know I'm helping with this, let alone agreed to pay for it. If there's a problem OF SOME OTHER KIND with my edits, please feel free to reverse my changes. Email me if you still have questions. 00:24, 20 April 2021 (UTC) editor@AnderssonPublishing.com

If you still think that the "nature of my edits" somehow gives you the impression that I have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, please let me know what the nature of which edits is a problem for you, and which topic it is that you think I'm promoting. THANKS. Anderssonpublishing (talk) 02:55, 20 April 2021 (UTC) Kelly.[reply]

I asked the question because your username implies an affiliation with the publisher of some of Maclean's books. That makes it a very natural question to ask if you are being paid since undisclosed paid editing is a violation of Wikipedia's terms of service. You have answered the question and there doesn't seem to be any issue of paid editing here. As a friend of subject of an article, you should be aware of conflict of interest and take great care in any of your edits. Your username is also an issue. It was pointed out in 2013 (see message near top of your talk page). You really need have your name changed to comply with Wikipedia's user name policy. See WP:CORPNAME. -- Whpq (talk) 13:00, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to John N. Maclean, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Tommi1986 let's talk! 10:33, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

THANK YOU. That was an unintentional deletion by me and I appreciate your fixing it. Anderssonpublishing (talk) 20:13, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you.

I have renamed your account and I will remove the block since it was only for your username. I would urge you to review the conflict of interest policy(or this plain language explanation of it). 331dot (talk) 09:13, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

331dOt, I request either kellyandersson as previously requested, or KellyAndersson, but not Kellyandersson as you changed it to. Thank you very much. Kellyandersson (talk) 00:08, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
