Why does the desert article not have an edit tab to make improvements?[1] KatieBoundary (talk) 18:42, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Protection policy; that article is currently semi-protected due to "persistent vandalism". Dru of Id (talk) 18:57, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Dru. An obvious question is why would anyone persistently vandalize an article on deserts?!? Weird. Is there a way to put a notice on the article so others can tell that it has a semi-protection, and when, and if, the protection is removed? KatieBoundary (talk) 19:02, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The indication that it is protected is the padlock symbol at the top of the page. If you hover the cursor over the symbol, it says that it's semi-protected. - David Biddulph (talk) 19:28, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I didn't see that, and I would not have known what it meant if I had. KatieBoundary (talk) 19:34, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
... and semi-protection means that you can't edit it until you are autoconfirmed, which needs at least 4 days and 10 edits. You have already satisfied the 10 edit criterion, but your account was created only yesterday. - David Biddulph (talk) 19:00, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks David. KatieBoundary (talk) 19:02, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I took a look at the edit history, and the last time the article was unprotected it did receive a lot of vandalism. It is very weird what some people choose to waste their time on! I think only about 5% of articles are protected, though they do tend to be the top-level ones with the highest traffic, so there should be the other 95% to keep you going for the few days until your account qualifies -- happy editing! Hello, I'm WikiDan61. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Yasheng Group without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry: I restored the removed content. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:05, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More page blanking

[edit]

This edit was a bit over the top. Unsourced material is indeed a problem at Wikipedia, but unsourced material should only be deleted if it is controversial. Surely most of the material in the Silk Route Museum article is not controversial. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:35, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you not discussing at the article talk page? "Over the top" is not a Wikipedia policy - WP:RS is. "unsourced material should only be deleted if it is controversial" is not correct. In any case, this is highly controversial, since there are warnings about this company doing pump and dumps in criminal fraud schemes. Please honor Wikipedia policies and refrain from adding unsourced content. Thanks. KatieBoundary (talk) 13:38, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects

[edit]

You created a redirect from an article (Meiping Wu) to a talk page (Talk:Yasheng Group). This is an invalid redirect, which is why it was tagged for speedy deletion. You have since updated the page to redirect directly to Yasheng Group, which, while better, still seems odd, since the name Meiping Wu does not appear on the Yasheng Group page. Since the article Mei Ping Wu is redirected to Silk Route Museum, it seems this would be the appropriate redirect for Meiping Wu also. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:42, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I made an error cutting and pasting. I fixed it to a redirect to the article. The article lack notability. Meiping Wu lists herself using various permutation name spelling aliases as president of both Yasheng Group and Silk Route Museum. Both of these companies failed made geology claims that failed to check out. Then I noticed the articles appear to be complete fabrications, and both companies were accused on mustiple fraud websites of pump and dumps, with each company pretending to buy the other, and know fraudsters involved in the fals adverts. Please do not violate WP:RS. KatieBoundary (talk) 13:47, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Silk Route Museum

[edit]

Katie, I have taken the liberty of rewriting the entire Silk Route Museum article. While the Museum itself is notable (I found a few tourist sites which list it), the concerns you bring up with the securities fraud are as well and I included them in the rewrite :-) ♥ Solarra ♥ ♪ Talk ♪ ߷ ♀ Contribs ♀ 14:50, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"A few tourist sites that list it" are not reliable secondary sources, nor to they meet WP:Notability. You claim not to be involved, yet took time to invent an entire article without a single reliable secondary source. How did you happen to hear about the article? The "museum" was verified not to exist as you wrote, by members of the California Academy of Sciences and USC, working in China. "Not involved"? KatieBoundary (talk) 15:04, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Katie, your comments at these articles are a bit too vigorous at the moment. I couldn't agree more that neither of them warrant inclusion in Wikipedia, but your comments are rapidly making a strawman argument out of the point. Please calm down.--Launchballer 15:48, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Though I don't understand how simply asking for a source to each person commenting is creating a strawman in any way. Maybe one of the people making assertions have a source.
