Article assessment

[edit]

Regarding your comments on article assessment for Gaetano Iannuzzi, maybe the underlying problem is that how articles are rated on the English Wikipedia may differ from it.WP; I can't claim to know what the Italians do. You said: "The article is no longer a stub, in fact it now contains an infobox, all the medals and Olympic appearances and the necessary notes, a biography with prose, new external links and new categories." I note, though, that most of those items you list are irrelevant for assessment on the English Wikipedia. What matters for assessment is the content as defined here: Wikipedia:Content assessment. The way the article is currently written is best described by "stub" on that page ("may be little more than a dictionary definition"). One way to measure whether something is no longer is stub is prose size, and WP:DYK defines a stub as anything under 1500 B (bytes) of readable prose. Now that's a very broad definition and may not always hold true (for example, a large city with much more than 1500 B of readable prose may still be a stub) but it's a useful yardstick. Iannuzzi's article currently has 763 B of readable prose and that alone would suggest that it's still a stub by quite some. I won't edit war with you over the matter but thought that this might be useful for you to know. Schwede66 02:57, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I get it. But in my opinion, but it is only my opinion, for sportsmen the discourse of destubbing should be different. In fact, you can understand how for example the article was undoubtedly a stub when you created it in December 2017, but now the information does not make it more stub regardless of the fact that there is less than 1,500 B of prose in the biographical section. You understand that for an important city, as you do for example, it is different than for an athlete. In any case, I treasure the information you have given me and for this article I will try to bring it to more than 1,500 B of prose (sorry, but not immediately, I am doing something else) and for the future I will take it into account for further destubbing , even if I repeat to you I think that for a sportsman if there is a lot of information about his career, half of the prose is still fine. --Kasper2006 (talk) 03:43, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done Green tickY Now the prose in biography section is 1,650 byte. But has I said, the article is far more full-bodied regardless. --Kasper2006 (talk) 10:21, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for working to improve the site with your edit to Allison Strong, as we really appreciate your participation. However, the edit had to be reverted, because Wikipedia cannot accept uncited material. RE: Madame

[edit]

WP Skiing and Snowboarding importance assessments

[edit]

Hi, regarding your importance assessments for skiers and snowboarders, you should be more selective. You give high-importance, top-importance so easily. Peter Fill for example, winner of just 3 World Cup races and 2 World Championship medals, you gave him a "top-importance". Really? Your explanation about that is "Not one, but several specialities cup won". If you look at the history there are several hundreds alpine skiers who have achieved more successes than Fill. Not need to mention the ski jumpers, cross-country skiers, nordic combiners and snowboarders. You can't give thousands of athletes a top importance. That is absurd. Apart from changing my recent "high-importance" introductions to project, like Dario Cologna or Lasse Kjus, you always give those high and top importance assessments to the Italian skiers and snowboarders. I don't know whether you're Italian or not, but your fondness to Italians should not effect your judgment accurracy.

Look at the or pages. Apart from your introductions, these are very selective list of athletes. You really think Peter Fill should deserve to be at the same page with the likes of Marcel Hirscher or Ingemar Stenmark and ahead of those like Bode Miller? He should be at-most "mid-importance". I don't want to enter an "edit war" with you so I wrote my thoughts here here without changing your edits. I believe many of your importance assessments need to be reverted. I hope you understand my reason behind that. As a project member, I made some assessments myself but I did those considering the earlier assessments of the other project members. I can't give Peter Fill a top-importance when Bode Miller or Lindsey Vonn's importance to project is set as "high". Same goes for the others. Skiers like Federica Brignone or Kristian Ghedina can be high-importance if we lower the standards and assigned the skiers like Marit Bjørgen, Lindsey Vonn, Matti Nykanen, Annemarie Moser-Proll, Toni Sailer etc. to top importance because achievement-wise there is a clear gap between those 2 groups. Regards--Pedeshtrian (talk) 17:39, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pedeshtrian: I am referring only to alpine skiing. As far as I'm concerned, this should be the yardstick.
  • Top: Winners of at least 15 World Cup races. Alternatively at least four specialty cups. Winners of at least two Olympic or world gold medals.
  • High: Winners of at least 5 World Cup races. Alternatively at least one specialty cup. Winners of at least two Olympic or World medals.
  • Mid: Winners of at least one World Cup race or at least one Olympic or World medal.
Of course, those below need to be increased, you MUST NOT decrease the others. If you disagree with me, open a discussion on the project and we discuss it with the others. --Kasper2006 (talk) 18:32, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I made a more careful evaluation and I raised the minimum number of specialty cups to four to be a top athlete. Peter Fill won three and I demoted him high. Of course I took Bode Miller, one of the greatest skiers of all time, to the top. If I notice other undervaluations I will elevate them. --Kasper2006 (talk) 18:42, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
With all my respects, those numbers are too low. 15 World Cup wins means that at least 63 alpine skiers should be top-importance, and with two Olympic or World medals this would be more than two hundred with the old skiers who competed in the pre-World Cup or early-World Cup era. If you check the FIS website you can see there are more than 200 alpine skiers who won at least 2 medals in just World Championships alone) When you apply same kind of logic for at least other major sections like cross-country, ski jumping and the snowboarding the numbers become just too much. There is no such project with that many "top importance" articles. For example Actors and Filmmakers has near 80.000 articles and 77 of them (1/1000) is top importance. For now there are nearly 10.000 articles in Skiing and Snowboarding (not all of them athlete), with this logic we could end up more than 500 top importance articles and I'm even underestimating now. For me World Cup win criteria for top importance should be 40, at least. There is a page called List of individual World Cup victories in skiing, which me and couple of others are updating time to time. The criteria for inclusion to that page is 40 World Cup wins. Although I made the most contributions to the page, 40 victories threshold is determined well before me. Thanks for clear explanation of your criteria by the way but I don't think that's the criteria to follow in the project and you should revise it. Regards.--Pedeshtrian (talk) 20:53, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My friend, you can understand that in an encyclopedia you cannot equate the popularity of a telemark and KL athlete to one of alpine skiing Having said that, for me 40 alpine skiers out of 10,000 is definitely too little. Wiki (not only those of sports), there is not a criterion for attributing the classes of importance, I suggest you try (good luck) to bring the topic to the project. --Kasper2006 (talk) 07:32, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Italy at the 2015 IAAF World Relays has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not every country at every event needs a separate article. We have Italy at the World Athletics Relays, and we have 2015 IAAF World Relays (with subarticles aplenty already). Italy didn't really do anything special at these championships, and these are a lot less important or popular than the actual athletics World Championships (or the Olympics obviously).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fram (talk) 08:11, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry @Fram:, but shouldn't your proposal go here? If not, who decides whether pages should remain or not? --Kasper2006 (talk) 10:13, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No, we have the proposed deletion process to make the burden at WP:AFD a bit lighter. It gets looked at by quite a few people, and if one of them objects, it goes to AfD (or the deletion process simply ends). But there is no reason a priori that deletions should go through AfD, a Prod or a speedy deletion is just as valid. Fram (talk) 10:19, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. But the notice does not indicate where to oppose by providing alternative motions. --Kasper2006 (talk) 10:33, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Fram: since you didn't answer me, I tried a bit to investigate and I saw that here to oppose the PROD a user simply removed the advice and then you opened the AfD. Do I have to do it like this? --Kasper2006 (talk) 10:35, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the instructions are right there in the banner on the page: "If you can address this concern by improving, copyediting, sourcing, renaming, or merging the page, please edit this page and do so. You may remove this message if you improve the article or otherwise object to deletion for any reason. Although not required, you are encouraged to explain why you object to the deletion, either in your edit summary or on the talk page. If this template is removed, do not replace it." You are free to remove the Prod, but it wuold be nice if you could indicate why you would do this, why you believe that the page is about a notable topic which should have a separate article instead of being covered in the two pages already mentioned. Fram (talk) 10:47, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Fram: the competition is an important competition, perhaps more so than the Universiade, for which this Category:United States at the Summer Universiade exists. Each nation has various articles related to each edition of the competition. As you said well, there are reasons to exist such as "Country at the World Athletics Relays" and by the same principle we should encourage you to create those for all editions as well, as is already the case for other events (it is no coincidence that there is a template " infobox coutry at games "with the related appearances line). I myself wanted to do some articles at least for the most important countries (USA, Jamaica) in relation to the single editions, but you put me in canceling this discouraged me. So this explanation I will put if I remove the advise, so that eventually it is the beginning to tell if this type of pages can be created or not. --Kasper2006 (talk) 11:45, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ero a Helsinki 1983. Forse). Ma io ti parlo e ti ringrazio. Niente di definitivo!--Arorae (talk) 12:45, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

e Polanco Rijo?

[edit]

quando lo fai? GRAZIE MILLE.--Arorae (talk) 12:25, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Secondo me non è ancora enciclopedico. Melluzzo forse lo era. --Kasper2006 (talk) 21:47, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Troppo fiscale sei.--Arorae (talk) 11:30, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I do thank you, very much, for Jacobs creation in 2017 (I did the same in French in 2016). Now Polanco is the only one of the Olympic team without any article (I do not ask you to create it). I am sure he will improve in the next years. Grazie mille again.--Arorae (talk) 06:56, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Kasper, I've noticed you copying in text about the Viale delle Olimpiadi to pages for athletes featured in that monument. I don't have any objection to it, but you have a persistent typo in the text you use ("One of theat tile is dedicated to..." --should be--> "One of these tiles is dedicated to..."). Could you please correct whatever template you're using for the updates? Mockingbus (talk) 17:31, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I looked into my contributions from October 11, 2018 and saw that all 10 athlete articles that I had edited by typing in the typo have been corrected. A pair right from you. --Kasper2006 (talk) 04:02, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Great! I know I'd corrected at least a few (maybe not all from you?) and one came up in a typo search just recently, so I wasn't sure if you were actively working on a project or something. Cheers! Mockingbus (talk) 02:34, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Naturalised tennis players by nationality indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

Notice

The article Wolfgang Hell has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence found of notability.

The article Elvis Toci has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No real notability, only a couple of references and a link to Toci's Instagram page

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arorae (talk) 17:46, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Samantha Molina (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
