Re:Help with a stub
Hi, I am very wiki illiterate, and was wondering if you might be able to help me stumble through my assignment- the guidelines are as follows Find a person, place, or event in history from the years 1500-2000 that is on Wikipedia as a “stub”. Research and write a Wikipedia-style article of at least 500 words about it. Make sure you use hyperlinks (web links) to link it to other subjects that Wikipedia treats, just like Wikipedia articles include links! Make sure you have REFERENCES (footnotes, works cited)! Wikipedia likes references. Your article should be of a high quality, well-written, well-supported, and thorough, comparable to good articles on the Wikipedia website. It should be able to be published.
Here is a list of history-related stubs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:History_stubs
You could choose virtually any one of these under "history stubs" to use for this project. A stub generally has a sentence or two, no more--it's really ready for some enterprising historian (like you!) to come along and use his or her research and writing skills to inform the world!
Please note: you MAY NOT write a Wikipedia article about a person, place, or thing that already has a thorough article on Wikipedia. That wouldn't be very useful, because the world already knows who that person is or what that place is.
I encourage you to join the Wikipedia community and actually post your article to Wikipedia!
However, that is not required; if you choose you may simply submit it as a .doc or .html file or similar, PROVIDED ALL THE LINKS WORK.
Let me know thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vernonwashere (talk • contribs) 23:33, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Recent changes
- You can now make charts and maps on your wiki with the new "graph" tool. If you have an old browser, you will see images instead. It uses a tool called Vega; you can learn how to use it and write help pages for your wiki. You can use the Vega edit tool to make charts and copy the code to your wiki. Charts and maps use complex code and you should put them into templates. In the future, you will be able to create charts with VisualEditor. [1] [2] [3]
- You can apply for technical jobs to develop tools for the community. [4]
- The logos of all wikis are now in a new place. It will make pages load faster. You can still ask to change the logo. You can also use local CSS for brief changes. [5] [6]
Problems
- There was a problem that caused slow editing. [7]
- Pages were sometimes removed from your watchlist in VisualEditor. This problem is now fixed. [8]
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki has been on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since May 6. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from May 12. It will be on all Wikipedias from May 13 (calendar).
- You can now use data from Wikidata on more pages. The page doesn't need to be linked to the Wikidata item. It works on a few wikis and more wikis will be added soon. [9] [10]
- You should get fewer errors when you add files to Commons. [11]
- When you use an external link to link to a wiki page, VisualEditor now converts it to a wiki link. [12]
- When you add a link in VisualEditor, you see pages that match what you type. It is now easier to see where they match. [13]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs are the most important. The meeting will be on May 13 at 18:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Vandalism on a dangerous-subject page
The page Lolcow is currently being vandalized with harassing information on me (Gabriel James Navarro), being put there by the very same cyberbullies who aggressively treat me as a "lolcow", and who are also presently harassing my IP talk page. Gabriel James Navarro
Can you please explain why you and the other user are reverting factual changes to the Lolcow article? As far as I can tell, the article was created to simply provide non-biased information regarding the lolcow phenomenon on the internet. Most of the recent edits are just adding another example, Gabriel James Navarro, who is a known lolcow as evidenced by sites like this: http://cwckiforums.com/threads/moleman9000.1357/page-1. Allowing the other user, who I suspect is Gabriel Navarro revert edits would be like allowing celebrities to edit out controversies on their own articles for the sake of reputation keeping rather than actual writing information content. 104.138.250.63 (talk) 03:36, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
- Can you please explain why you assumed I reverted edits to the Lolcow article when I haven't? Please seek dispute resolution for content issues. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 03:37, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

Global renamer
Have you considered applying for the meta:global renamer userright? You're certainly qualified for the role, and there already exists 9 other users in the group that do not hold bureaucrat rights on any project, so there is precedent (but be prepared for hesitation since you don't yet hold administrative rights on any project). If you decide to do so, please let me know so I can comment on your request. –xenotalk 14:12, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Elizabeth Warren Salary
I wanted to ask a question about adding Elizabeth Warren's Harvard salary to the article. I'm not trying to make a point about salary and politics; I think the information should be out there and people can make of it what they like. I looked at two other political figures and I saw that they had their speaking fees noted in their Wikipedia articles, but there wasn't a larger point behind it - it's just information.
I would still like to add the salary information. There is plenty of documentation for it and, as I mentioned in an earlier post on the Elizabeth Warren talk page, there's no campaign going on so it's not going to be used for political hay. What do you think? 73.25.235.169 (talk) 03:35, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
- Politics doesn't concern me. The issue here is whether this information is worth mentioning in the article (see WP:Handling trivia). Since Wikipedia is so vast and broad, what can be considered "worth including" and "not worth including" is vague and a matter of debate (which is why we have talk pages to discuss things like this). I won't revert you if you add the information to the article, but someone else might. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 03:50, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
ManpasandBeverages name change
Hi, I have tried multiple times to change the username. my questins are as below 1. if I change the username to some ordinary username, will that impact on the headline of the article? as Manpasand Beverages Ltd 2. I do not have any intention to vandalise and/or marketing promotion on wikipedia, I just came across lot of articles on different beverages companies on wikipedia and wanted to do same for this beverage company. what would be the best option 3. If i change username to some ordinary name then how can I keep the name of the article Manpasand Beverages ?
I would be highly obliged if you could help me out. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by ManpasandBeveragesLtd (talk • contribs) 05:48, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
- @M0615Sip:
- No, it will not affect the title of your article unless you were developing it in your userspace. Since you are developing it outside your userspace and in the drafts namespace, the title will not be affected. Even if you were developing the article in your userspace, the title of the article is not finalized and you can change it when you copy your article and move it into the article namespace.
- If you are affiliated or have connections with this company, please review our policy on conflict of interest and the neutral point of view policy. Otherwise, feel free to follow the instructions at the Your First Article page to see if your article and subject is eligible for Wikipedia.

VisualEditor News #3—2015
Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has created new interfaces for the link and citation tools, as well as fixing many bugs and changing some elements of the design. Some of these bugs affected users of VisualEditor on mobile devices. Status reports are posted on Mediawiki.org. The worklist for April through June is available in Phabricator.
A test of VisualEditor's effect on new editors at the English Wikipedia has just completed the first phase. During this test, half of newly registered editors had VisualEditor automatically enabled, and half did not. The main goal of the study is to learn which group was more likely to save an edit and to make productive, unreverted edits. Initial results will be posted at Meta later this month.
Recent improvements
Auto-fill features for citations are available at a few Wikipedias through the citoid service. Citoid takes a URL or DOI for a reliable source, and returns a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. If Citoid is enabled on your wiki, then the design of the citation workflow changed during May. All citations are now created inside a single tool. Inside that tool, choose the tab you want (⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-auto⧽, ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-manual⧽, or ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-reuse⧽). The cite button is now labeled with the word "⧼visualeditor-toolbar-cite-label⧽" rather than a book icon, and the autofill citation dialog now has a more meaningful label, "⧼Citoid-citeFromIDDialog-lookup-button⧽", for the submit button.
The link tool has been redesigned based on feedback from Wikipedia editors and user testing. It now has two separate sections: one for links to articles and one for external links. When you select a link, its pop-up context menu shows the name of the linked page, a thumbnail image from the linked page, Wikidata's description, and/or appropriate icons for disambiguation pages, redirect pages and empty pages. Search results have been reduced to the first five pages. Several bugs were fixed, including a dark highlight that appeared over the first match in the link inspector (T98085).
The special character inserter in VisualEditor now uses the same special character list as the wikitext editor. Admins at each wiki can also create a custom section for frequently used characters at the top of the list. Please read the instructions for customizing the list at mediawiki.org. Also, there is now a tooltip to describing each character in the special character inserter (T70425).
Several improvements have been made to templates. When you search for a template to insert, the list of results now contains descriptions of the templates. The parameter list inside the template dialog now remains open after inserting a parameter from the list, so that users don’t need to click on "⧼visualeditor-dialog-transclusion-add-param⧽" each time they want to add another parameter (T95696). The team added a new property for TemplateData, "Example", for template parameters. This optional, translatable property will show up when there is text describing how to use that parameter (T53049).
The design of the main toolbar and several other elements have changed slightly, to be consistent with the MediaWiki theme. In the Vector skin, individual items in the menu are separated visually by pale gray bars. Buttons and menus on the toolbar can now contain both an icon and a text label, rather than just one or the other. This new design feature is being used for the cite button on wikis where the Citoid service is enabled.
The team has released a long-desired improvement to the handling of non-existent images. If a non-existent image is linked in an article, then it is now visible in VisualEditor and can be selected, edited, replaced, or removed.
Let's work together
- Share your ideas and ask questions at mw:VisualEditor/Feedback.
- The weekly task triage meetings continue to be open to volunteers, each Wednesday at 12:00 (noon) PDT (19:00 UTC). Learn how to join the meetings and how to nominate bugs at mw:Talk:VisualEditor/Portal. You do not need to attend the meeting to nominate a bug for consideration as a Q4 blocker. Instead, go to Phabricator and "associate" the Editing team's Q4 blocker project with the bug.
- If your Wikivoyage, Wikibooks, Wikiversity, or other community wants to have VisualEditor made available by default to contributors, then please contact James Forrester.
- If you would like to request the Citoid automatic reference feature for your wiki, please post a request in the Citoid project on Phabricator. Include links to the TemplateData for the most important citation templates on your wiki.

Diet Traditionally, the Nairs were not strict vegetarians, but included fish in their diet, though this was shunned by the higher classes. The love for fish was noted as so strong that it was "often smuggled in." Working class Nair favoured kānji (rice gruel), as did many Malabar Hindus.[106] Pork was also noted as one of their favourite foods,[107] and even high-status Nairs were noted as eating buffalo meat.[108] Proscriptions
A 16th-century writer noted that drinking was unknown in Travancore at that time, but in 1787 AD the Maharaja formally prohibited takara (palm brandy) under pain of forfeiture of property.[106] The Nayar avoided beef, and many did not eat lamb.[109] In the modern day, alcohol is a component of Nair-dominated festivals in Kerala.[108] During the pre-Independence era, consumption of beef and alcohol was strictly prohibited and doing so often resulted in violence or excommunication.[110][page needed]
In Nair Families still Beef and Alcohol is banned please remove below points

Competitive examination
Hello K6ka, you did a favor of undoing my edit on Competitive examination. I think the tone of the article is not fitting for Wikipedia. The information about France and that it is "surely" the most difficult one in the world regarding competitive exams are also not accurate. I personally think that the entire content of this article can be merged with entrance examination. peace Sedai2014 (talk) 23:04, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Please help if you can see fit...
Hi K6Ka,
I was greatly relieved for your help preventing continuous blanking over on Talk:Sons of Liberty. Thank you for that. As it turns out, and as a result, I'm under a bit of a siege over on [44]. I've been trying to defend myself against bullying by User:Beyond My Ken there, but he seems to be having some success gaining traction with some false accusations against me -- that I'm a sock for a disruptive editor half way around the world from me. Anyway, if you could take a look at the AFI page and maybe help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again.

International Trademark Association Page
Thanks for your help on International Trademark Association's page. I'm confused about the copyright violation - we are trying to make this Wiki page correct and up to date. Can you help me upload the information that it is not rejected? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lheery (talk • contribs) 20:54, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Lheery: I'm not sure exactly what you are requesting. Your edit was reverted because it was simply copied and pasted from another website. This can cause legal issues, and thus Wikipedia forbids copyright violations. See our policy on copyright violations. In order for a change to be accepted, they must be written in an encyclopedic tone (i.e. no bias or fancruft), should generally not be written by anyone with a conflict of interest, and should never be simply copied-and-pasted from another source, as mentioned above.
- Also, if you want to reply to a thread (such as this one), click on the "Edit" button next to the section title and respond from there, instead of creating an entire new thread (this will cause disorganization and clutter). Please also sign your posts by adding four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 21:09, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
- @K6ka: Thanks for your help. Is it possible to see which sections were directly copied/pasted and caused the page to be taken down? We want to update our company page as everything is out of date. - Also, as I have already mentioned, please sign your posts by adding four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Like this:

- @K6ka: Is there anyone who can take our content and upload it appropriately with all of these citations? We wrote all of the content so that it's appropriate for Wikipedia and wouldn't violate anything. Lheery (talk) 19:18, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Work that you submit to Wikipedia must be compatible with that license. (You can also see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials if you're serious about keeping it intact, but that means it can't be copyrighted at all, and the license it uses must be compatible with our license. Qrator article
Hello K6ka,
Thanks for the welcome! I have just submitted a draft for the Qrator article i've written. According to the editorial community of Wikipedia on #IRC, my article agrees to the guidelines and formatting of Wikipedia, so I hope the draft is good. I did not sign the draft. I didn't know if I had to do that. Let me know if you think I should change anything. I look forward to hearing from you :)
Thanks.
Jasoniliou (talk) 13:31, 7 July 2015 (UTC)Jasoniliou
- Hey Jasoniliou. I ran your draft through reFill (automatically fills in citations) and AutoEd (cleans up wiki markup), hopefully that helps!
- And no, you don't need to sign your draft (and you should definitely not sign it once it gets moved to the article namespace!), since the page history automatically credits you with each edit you make, so you don't need to worry about being left in the dark ;) --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 13:50, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hey K6ka. Thank you very much for this. Do you think it will get approved? I put a lot of time into it. Do I just wait now? Jasoniliou (talk) 13:54, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[[User:Jasoniliou|
- @Jasoniliou: Yes, you'll just have to wait for someone to review your draft. Please be patient, since the system is very heavily backlogged (1K+!), so it may take some time for your submission to be reviewed. Don't be discouraged if it does not get approved. We've all failed at one point in our lives.
- In the meantime, feel free to go over your article again, and if it helps, read your article out aloud. Things sound different when you read them out loud instead of silently in your head, and you will often find many errors and mistakes or things that could be rewritten this way. Good luck! --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 14:17, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

- @Pinkbeast: No, it's nothing really special. Occasionally vandal fighters may revert a user and unknowingly revert the article to a revision made by another vandal. It's happened to me many times before, and I wound up in your situation several times as well, when I saw things the initial reverter didn't see (This is often due to a limitation of the tools used, since I was using STiki to make that edit, or because the user was on patrol and had many edits to check, and thus may not have had the time to individually examine carefully each edit). At times it may be the other way around. I did not see the vandalized content there, so thank you for reverting it. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 17:55, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

I deleted that section because I'm clear why the "history" of the illegal drug trade, broadly, is so focused on the Opium Wars. That seems very specific and not relevant to the nature of the post. Am I wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.90.96.47 (talk) 03:13, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
- Nobody said you were wrong but, looking at some of the sources in the line you removed, it has a connection with the Opium Wars, which you said was made too specific in an article that should've had a broader viewpoint. Personally though, I'm a bit unclear as to why those two sentences had to be removed when the next paragraph was all about Opium Wars as well. --I am k6ka Talk to me! New to Wiki
Hi K6ka
I am new to Wiki and am not totally sure what I did wrong - you sent me (quite a rude) message about being blocked if I defame someone with poor references - all I am doing is adding the changes Al Pillay herself has asked me to do as she doesn't use computers. I cant see in any of the information what it is that's wrong - please advise and I apologise I got it wrong. Also I have only added once to the site - when I changed the photo it says it cant as the file has been deleted. Thanks for your help. Nigel — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nigel from Camden LGBT Forum (talk • contribs) 13:50, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Nigel from Camden LGBT Forum: Perhaps I can clarify. Your edit to Al Pillay was reverted again because it added information that was not properly sourced. On Wikipedia, we require that everything added to our website be properly sourced and supported with a citation. We get especially strict on this policy when it comes to articles about living people, in which it is policy to immediately remove anything that isn't sourced on such an article. The message you got was a pre-written one, and I issued it because Melcous had also issued you another message two hours earlier, again notifying you of our verifiability policy. Ten minutes later, you reverted Melcous's edit without any explanation, and reinserted the aforementioned unsourced content, so I came and re-reverted your edit, under the policy regarding the biographies of living persons. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 13:55, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
Response re Al Pillay
Thanks for this. It all sounds very formal (which I understand). I don't know who this Malcous person is. I have only received a message from you. All I could see is a bit that said revert so i pressed it - it didn't explain anything. Again I apologise - I am new to Wiki and it will take me some time to figure out how you deal with edits. I will ensure I put a source on everything but I can assure you nothing was controversial - it just said where she has performed. I really need some advice on the picture - she wants it changed and it got reverted (my new word of the day) - there is no explanation about this on the bit that says it. Now I am terrified I will get blocked for trying to upload it again. Please advise. Thanks. Nigel — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nigel from Camden LGBT Forum (talk • contribs) 14:05, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Nigel from Camden LGBT Forum: What picture are you referring to? Are you referring to this picture? If so, it got deleted because images on Wikimedia Commons must be either in the public domain or free to use -- copyrighted images are not allowed there. Files must also have sufficient evidence to prove that it is public domain or free to use.
- Also, as an important side note, please sign your posts on a discussion page (such as this one) by adding four tildes (~~~~) to the end of your comments. For example:

90.199.59.159 aka Phil
Hello k6ka, thanks for helping me out with Phil. They are not really a new user, they are a record-label-manager trying to shove their corp and employees into wikipedia. I'm trying to teach them the ropes. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 17:07, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Changing my username
I changed the username because when I made I thought I'm doing an article, the I discovered it's a user page, later on an article was made, but in google search the old name still appear as USER, the name is Khaled Akil, when or how the old name will be removed from google search? thanks User:k6ka.Abraham (talk) 21:22, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Hallit Aqueeal: The "User:" prefix will always appear, because your page is in the user namespace, not the main article namespace. The search results will not update until Google's caches clear, which may take up to 24 to 48 hours. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 22:04, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Huggle inserting wrong date heading
See [88]. I'm guessing your computer's system time is set to sometime in July and not August. — MusikAnimal talk 19:26, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- @MusikAnimal: Yep, sadly it is. The laptop I was using to make that edit belongs to my school so I don't have much control over it. For some reason the clock broke after DST, and every time I boot up the computer it flips the clock back one hour. I sadly can't change the clock without the admin password, so unfortunately I'll just have to wait for my laptop to realize that it's August. I do have other computers that do have the correct time and date, but they're slower, so I don't usually use them for recent changes patrolling. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 19:34, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- Not a big deal! I'm pretty sure Huggle can still register the last level warning and act accordingly, it's merely the heading that's wrong :) Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 19:37, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- Not in my experience. Huggle would look at my computer's date and time and get confused when it's earlier than the date and time of the revision I reverted, so it would refuse to warn the user no matter what. I often had to go and use Twinkle to warn the user, which resulted in erroneous date headings. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 19:52, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
