Peer Review

Content:

  • The link for “Group 3 elements” doesn’t cover the entire word
  • Maybe add a bit more info about why Al doesn’t experience the inert pair effect as much as the elements lower down in the group
  • You mention the colour of the Al(I) complexes – can you infer something about the HOMO-LUMO gap from this?
  • If you state NMR signals, I would also mention what they correspond to
  • I would add a bit more detail as to why Al(I) complexes behave like singlet carbenes – is there a good diagram you could draw for this?
  • How is disproportionation made kinetically unfavourable?
  • You talk about Al(I) complexes reacting in a [1+2] manner but then refer to this again as [2+1] – be consistent
  • What is it about the nature of HF which means the synthesis of AlF has to be different from that of the other halides?
  • A diagram depicting the similar bonding modes of CO and AlCp would be good

  • Try and find the link to the actual article page for reference 9 so it is like all the others
  • You site reference 3 as a source of information regarding the vapour pressure of AlF but I can’t seem to find any mention of this in the paper

General comments:

  • I would try and include chemdraw reaction schemes as images in your wiki rather than just talking about the reactions – this may be easier to understand for readers who don’t have such a strong scientific background
  • Define the abbreviations used in text such as Cp*
  • Be consistent with the spacing between numerical values and their units – some don’t have spaces between them
  • Also, I would maybe consider including a link for Kelvin onto your page
  • Maybe include the main authors name when discussing their work
  • Try and include some more characterisation of the compounds mentioned – you talk about a long Al-Al bond for example, what is its reported value?

Overall the page is really well written – great job!

Peer review (Astatocarbon)

The article is very clear and summarizes many of the salient features that should give the reader a good idea of Al(I). The figures are clear and the equations compliment the text. In general, the figures don’t need to have numbered labels on them. The references also are relevant, well formatted, and support the information presented. Also, I think it is customary in Wikipedia not to have figures labeled with numbers (e.g. “Figure 2”) since they are not specifically referenced in the text. Other than that, below are specific comments related to each of the sections.

Introduction

  • The introduction was very concise and descriptive of the salient features of Al(I).

Characteristics

  • You may want to consider stating that the HOMO/LUMP gap is accessible by green light. The phrasing of “green photons” seems like an uncommon way of putting it.
  • The fact that the higher field NMR signal has not been assigned seemed strange as a reader, though that is what the authors said in the reference where the information came from. One way to reword that is to reword to state “…species, although the latter was not assigned in the author’s analysis”.

Monohalides

  • I would recommend separating each of the AlX halides with their own line or paragraph. It could help with the organization.
  • What does “Due to the nature of HF” mean? Is the synthesis strategy different because it is dangerous, or because its doesn’t follow the reactivity that AlCl and AlBr does?
  • How comes its remarkable that the vapor pressure of AlF is lower than other aluminum monohalides?

Oligomerization

  • Typo correction: “in Lewis basic solutions”

Complex Chemistry

  • You can hotlink the “abundant of elements in the earth’s crust” to the corresponding Wikipedia page to support this statement. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abundance_of_elements_in_Earth%27s_crust
  • The picture of the beta-Diketiminato synthesis is a little small.
  • The explicit comparison between the carbene and aluminum compounds is described well in the picture. Perhaps it could be information to mention the mechanism in the text regarding the mechanism.
  • In the “AlCp*” section, the reaction products described are a little unclear. If this is by design and you are trying to just write about what it can react with, this is understandable. Otherwise, it may * be clear to describe at least what the Al bonds to.
  • The metalloidal cluster sections is pretty neat and describes what appears to be a very important feature of their chemistry. In this section, the images could be a little bit bigger.

Occurrence

  • The “Occurrence” section seems a bit out of place. Since the oxidation state property was already mentioned, the only remaining new bit is about its presence in nature. It seems fine to have that section there though, and maybe more can be added to it as more work is done on Al(I). Perhaps it could be renamed to “Natural occurrence” to be more clear. Or it could also be moved to the front of the article than the end.
