Hi Julia:
Thanks for the support on Featured_picture_candidates#Common_Lime_Mating. Could you tell me what fixing you mean on the composition? -- Jkadavoor (talk) 05:34, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I think the alt added to the nomination, which you suggested, fixes the issue with the composition, which was the lack of space on the left side. It's okay now! :) Julia\talk 07:55, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
Women and Wikipedia
Hi Julia! Just responded to your comments at Wikipedia talk:Wikipedia Signpost/2012-03-12/Women and Wikipedia. Kaldari (talk) 14:23, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you!
Thank you for welcoming me! Do you remember what article it was that I contributed to that you noticed?
Hey, Julia, I replied to you (a little late) on my Talk page!
I'm glad you have this notice:
- If you leave a message for me here, I will probably respond here, to keep conversations together. If you express a preference, though, I would be happy to respond on your talk page instead. If I've left you a message, I will be watching your talk page and expecting you to respond there.
I was a little uncertain about how it should work. This works for me.
A barnstar for you!

DYK for Saint George Palace
On 3 May 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Saint George Palace, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that French revolutionary forces in Rennes evicted almost forty nuns from their abbey residence, the Palais Saint-Georges (pictured), and used the building as a barracks? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Saint George Palace. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Rennes
Hi,
I have just seen your work on the Saint George Palace article and the subsequent DYK . Good job, its better than then French one now, and we (the contributors from Rennes) will have to work on it ;). I don't know if you have ever had the opportunity to come to this city, but if you do, there is a very active group here, so feel free to put a message on the portal, we meet each other almost once every week.
And if you don't know what to do about Rennes, and if you can read some French, this might interest you. It's a GA on the French wikipedia, but the translation still needs to be finished...
Merci, XIIIfromTOKYO (talk) 09:18, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- Bonjour, merci pour le message. I have been to Rennes, yes, the picture of the Palais Saint-Georges used in the articles is mine. I was going to do a straight translation from the French article, but then realised there seemed to be much more information available from the sources themselves, so just kept writing! But the French article did give me a good start.
- Hôtel de Blossac is another one I've been meaning to work on; the picture of that one is also mine. I'm not sure how much more I could improve the English article though, my French isn't great!
- Next time I'm in Rennes I'll try to get to one of the meetings, thanks. :) Bien à toi, Julia\talk 10:55, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you too.
- I’ve start the translation of Hôtel de Blossac but this article is too long and my english too bad to translate a GA. Maybe you could start by correcting my english
- For the Saint George Palace, we’ll improve the french article in the next months, we could keep you in touch to inform you.
- It will be a pleasure to meet you whenever you'll be in Rennes.

Needing Wiki contribution assistance!
Hello Julia!
I am looking for an experienced Wikipedian to contribute an article for our band Mr. Meeble. I have checked and we meet the Wikipedia "notability" guidelines for a band. We have a very basic Wikipedia article written already, but I know that someone like yourself may be able to point out our formatting errors and critical omissions. You can hear our music and see our videos here:

Your revert
Your revert to the FP criteria seems a bit WP:POINTy to me. We are a wiki. We discuss. We change. We can discuss more if we like. We can change again if we like. We are not subject to the normal publications models where lengthy discussion is required before printing something. See the article analysis paralysis for what can happen if discussions just bubble along forever. I'm really disappointed by your action because I'd expect an admin to know better than to revert an edit as they disagree with the action (or timing), rather than because they've indicated disagreement with the content. That's just pointy behaviour in my book. You haven't offered an opinion to that discussion. Your edit is actually against the significant consensus. Please read Wikipedia:Consensus, particularly the "Consensus is an ongoing process on Wikipedia" point. *sigh* Colin°Talk 12:25, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- I think the change will go through eventually, but calling half a dozen users and 3 days enough to be a consensus is jumping the gun a little is all. JJ Harrison (talk) 12:51, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- That you've bothered to criticise me is puzzling, because if the process of a wiki is as fluid and easy-going as you suggest, then why are you upset by my undoing your edit? After all, if after more discussion consensus leans towards your change, my edit will be undone and yours will be reinstated. So what's the trouble? I could just as easily direct you to WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle and that would be valid too. So would WP:There is no deadline.
- There was nothing pointy about my undo of your edit. The major reason for it is that it's difficult to have a discussion on how something specific should be altered from its typical state, if an alteration has already been made. New contributors to the discussion shouldn't have to wade through every point of text, or have to view the history of the criteria page. Apart from being confusing, it gives the impression that your change already has preference, which hasn't been clearly or fully indicated yet.
- The only reason I haven't contributed to the discussion myself is that I'm busy and haven't had the opportunity, but I have been following it. I don't necessarily disagree with the change. It's just premature. You've read way too much into my undo of your edit and seem to have taken it personally. Julia\talk 13:05, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- You link to BRD but don't appear to understand what the revert bit is about. You have to disagree with the edit itself and explain why on the talk page. Disagreeing with the timing of an edit is not sufficient reason to revert. Have a read of what Kim Brunning wrote at [Wikipedia talk:Don't revert due solely to "no consensus". He got it spot on. As you say, your reasons are simply "it's just premature". That's not valid. You need a strong content-based reason to revert a good faith edit. You and JJ may feel I jumped the gun, and you might be right, but a wiki moves on by making edits, not reverts. Same goes for the no deadline essay. Everything is a work in progress. And progress required edits, not reverts. If you feel those joining the discussion need some clarification of existing vs proposed then it would be trivial to add that to the talk page. Your "I'm busy" excuse is really shameful. You weren't too busy to revert. Colin°Talk 14:00, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Scelophysa trimeni
Why have you removed your nomination? I was planning to support. Just about everything Saffron said about the image is either wrong or mistaken. Reading the Ecology and behaviour section of (your) article, I see this image completely matches this in a way that an isolated beetle would not. Please change your mind. Colin°Talk 18:14, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Because I'm sensitive about my photography, and the oppose made me wonder if I'd just been blind to the photograph's flaws. Considering how small these beetles are, I really don't think it's that bad, but what if I'm wrong? Thank you for your vote of confidence. I'll reinstate it, but hover on delete in case it doesn't pick up. :) Julia\talk 21:54, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Kuremaa
Nice job on the expansion of the Kuremaa article, but where's the info from? The only source listed isn't loading anything for me. Jujutacular (talk) 14:21, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- That source was there before and I haven't looked at it yet. There's loads of expansion left to do and sorry, I haven't got around to referencing yet. I only began expanding it late yesterday. I'll put a template on it. Julia\talk 14:35, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- No problem, I was just curious if you were able to access the source listed or if you had other sources. It's already looking great, good work. Jujutacular (talk) 17:48, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you, and I'm sorry but I read your first message more negatively than you probably intended! The information is from a few different places, but mainly the Kuremaa website ([1]) and the Estonian wiki's article on the manor. It's always a bit tricky to use mainly foreign language texts, so when I'm done I will ask the creator of the windmill pic to check my work against the Eesti sources. If he happens to not be interested, I'll just ask at the Estonian wiki. Julia\talk 18:41, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
I tried to go throughout the article, but because of my poor english, I ask you to control my edits. I have doubts with one fact about Lake Kuremaa (I didn't find verification): only public beach in Jõgeva County. There are many lakes in Jõgeva County and Lake Peipus has ca 20 km long shore in Jõgeva County. Thank you for the good work so far! Regards, --Iifar (talk) 08:46, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for checking my work, I really appreciate it. Your edits (and English) were fine! Regarding the public beach claim, I got that from here: [2], a tourism page for Jõgeva County. Perhaps the other 'beaches' in the county are not free of charge, or are privately owned? If you still disagree, of course I will rephrase it. Thank you again. :) Julia\talk 21:40, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Meetups - geonotice needs updating
Hi Julie, I've scheduled some meetups in Manchester on 20 October and Liverpool on 24 November. Harry doesn't seem to be active much at the moment - Internet connection problems I think - so would you please be able to use your admin powers to update the Geonotice with these? - Hallo, great! Thank you for doing the organising (and picking good dates!). Geonotice is updated now. See you in a few weeks. Julia\talk 10:01, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- I was actually going to ask about this, are you planning to do a meet up in November too? I am thinking of an event with Girl Geeks in November on a Sunday, and thought it would be nice to do it on the same weekend as the meet up. If you have any ideas let me know asap. Thanks so much! (daria.cybulskawikimedia.org.uk) Daria Cybulska (WMUK) (talk) 11:26, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
- The Manchester and Liverpool meetups tend to have a lot of overlap in attendees, so each meets every alternate month. Hence there is a Liverpool meetup in November because the Manchester one is in October. You could certainly ask others, but I don't think there's enough interest (or enough attendees) to warrant having another Manchester meetup in November (and Liverpool might be sore about it?). I'd certainly support a Girl Geeks & wiki event (if I'm around) regardless of whether or not there was also a meetup though. Anyway, I suggest you might want to try the page for the next Manchester meetup, for other opinions? :) Julia\talk 21:52, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I don't think there is a need to set up another Manchester meet up in November. It would be great if you could attend the Girl Geek event - I will let you know once it's in shape. Daria Cybulska (WMUK) (talk) 09:38, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your message! It's a bit of a scary thing to take that first step on Wikipedia, mostly because of what you wrote in your user page on fear of Doing The Wrong Thing. That made me laugh, because it's totally true. Also, I think women tend to feel less authoritative on saying this is how it is, as reflected in the low number of female editors. Before I added the references, I had read through the editing page, but I hadn't realized there was an entire Manual of Style. I'll definitely read through that at my earliest opportunity. Thanks again and happy editing! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.21.144.62 (talk) 21:52, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

These are the sort of things that only come up occasionally, because they're not really practical to do with photographs, and most people don't let things build up enough before nominating, so I suspect there hasn't been a large set nom since I was last active (not that I was the only one doing them; just I was one of the last to leave).
