User talk:Jules at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Jules at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Marie Selby Botanical Gardens , which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! --Deepfriedokra (talk) 12:20, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
Hello Jules at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. You used the {{Help me}} template, but you wanted an answer from a specific editor. If you still need help, please add your question to that editor's talk page instead. Alternatively, you can ask your question at the Teahouse, the help desk, or join Wikipedia's Live Help IRC channel to get real-time assistance. |
Thank you Deepfriedokra for approving my username change and for unblocking me. I still don't understand your newest comment that my changes to the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens page may be revoked as it may be a conflict of interest. I work for the organization and they asked me to make changes to the page yesterday. I changed my username as you saw and even added a User Page to explain my official affiliation with the organization. Can you explain why you just wrote that it may be a conflict and what I need to do to make sure my changes don't revert because that was a lot of work yesterday to update it all. Thank you for your help.Jules at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (talk) 12:45, 26 September 2021 (UTC) Jules at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens
- Looking at the links Deepfriedokra may help you understand, but I'm sure he has more specific advice. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 16:01, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

- You edited an article about a company you work for. That creates a conflict of interest. You should not edit the article itself. You should instead make edit requests and discuss content and sourcing on the article talk page. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:18, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- This edit added promotional, unsourced content more suited to the subject's web site. "All content must be cited from reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and have a reputation for fact checking." --Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:25, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

[edit]You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.
Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".
If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page.
You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text
{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Jules at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Acroterion (talk) 18:20, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
The links and discussion above may help you to understand how to edit with a conflict of interest. For more, see WP:COI. Acroterion (talk) 18:21, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
