Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Smita Patil does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Neutral encyclopedia and other tips

[edit]

Hi there, though I know you mean well, I have to point out a few things to you that you seem unclear about.

  1. Please stop marking non-minor edits as minor. A minor edit is one that could not possibly be the subject of a dispute. Typo fixes, grammar fixes, etc. Cosmetic changes. Once you start making major changes like here, largely because you are introducing new information, it is no longer a minor edit.
  2. In that same edit, you introduced some non-neutral language, like describing the subject's performances as "refreshing". Refreshing to whom? You? When you write like this, it makes it sound like the inanimate encyclopedia felt refreshed. Or changing the description of a hit to "big hit", as if that's somehow quantifiable. You've made similar edits at Shankar Nag, for example here where you add strange content like "Shankar was lapped up by commercial cinema", "There was no looking back after that", "Shankar became the pioneer of balancing acting with directing". Wikipedia is a neutral encyclopedia, and as such, we write in a dispassionate tone, not as someone who is enamored with the article subjects. Drooling prose has no place here, and we do not add our personal opinions to articles. Any opinion that you are representing to be a summary of most critical response, must be directly attributed to a specific voice that made that claim. So if you say that a film was a "hit", you need to include a source that comes to the conclusion that the film was a financial success—we're not just going to take your word for it. Statements like "Shankar became the pioneer of balancing acting with directing" are pure unquantifiable hyperbole, and do not belong in articles. We don't want articles to sound like advertisements, which this version of the Nag article did, especially in the "Acting and directing" and "Television work" sections.
  3. In these edits you somehow managed to delete the infobox. Please be more careful moving forward.
  4. Tip: When you are describing a role that someone has played, you don't need to write "...who played the role of...". If we are writing about an actor, we know that actors play roles. Simply saying "who played Uttam Kumar's sister-in law" is crystal clear and is not repetitive.

Thank you and regards. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:06, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

More issues

[edit]

Jswamy, I have to bring up a few more issues that you seem unaware of:

  1. Please stop marking non-minor edits as minor. Your editing privileges will be interrupted if you continue to do this. This is not a minor edit. These changes, for instance, are not minor, as you deleted a significant amount of content. Minor edits are cosmetic changes, like typo fixes, punctuation fixes, etc.
  2. Please stop deleting content without adequately explaining why. In this edit you deleted content. This is indistinguishable from vandalism and it causes other editors to distrust your changes. If you are following a specific editing guideline, then you should be able to articulate that in your edit summary. Just saying "corrections" doesn't help anybody.
  3. There are numerous notices on your talk page about you adding disambiguation links to articles. When you receive these, you should fix the problems you created. Here you added a link to Anthapuram. If you click that link, you'll notice that it doesn't take the reader to an article about the film, instead, it is a disambiguation page. That's not helpful, as it adds one extra step to a reader's experience. Double-check your links before saving them to the article, and please fix these issues when you are notified of them.
  4. Here I'm having trouble understanding why you removed character names. Can you please explain that to me below?
  5. Here you miscapitalised "special appearance" six times. If you are going to make changes to English prose, you need to be sure that you are using proper grammar. Mistakes like this are disruptive. If English is not your strong suit, then refrain from making changes to prose. In addition to this, saying "the film stars ___ in lead roles" is redundant. A film's stars are typically the lead actors. Just say "the film stars ___."
  6. Edits like this are not consistent with community standards. There are virtually no quality filmographies where we track heroes/heroines. For one, it is interpretive to decide who a hero or heroine is, but if what you mean to say is "co-star", that too is not typically included in filmographies, as most editors would consider that trivial. You should be discussing changes like this with other editors. Please familiarise yourself with WP:FILMOGRAPHY, and the structure of quality filmographies.

It is important that you read and understand the above, so I would appreciate a response please, especially to my question about why you deleted content. Please respond below if you'd be so kind. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:47, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Film plots

[edit]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Kaduva. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges.
You cut a film plot with an edit summary of "Plot summary was too long long and gave away all the plot points." Wikipedia is NOTCENSORED, we do NOT give partial plots or avoid "giving away all the plot points". This is an encyclopedia not a promotional trailer to try to get people to see the film. Futhermore per WP:FILMPLOT, plot summaries should be between 400 and 700 words - before you started it was 629 words which was fine, not too long, you cut it to 208 words, which is too short - Arjayay (talk) 12:19, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, you may be blocked from editing.
Please read WP:SPOILER - specifically "It is not acceptable to delete information from an article because you think it spoils the plot." and WP:FILMPLOT before editing further - Arjayay (talk) 12:26, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Arjayay I was only responding to some page requests that the summary was too long. There has been no vandalizing or disruption. Long summaries running to several pages in bad English do not an encyclopedia make. Threatening me for doing something legitimately requested is unacceptable. Given the nature of these threats I already sent Wikipedia an email that I will no longer make any more donations, though I have been a regular donor the past few years. I have stopped editing Wikipedia and will be deactivating my account. Goodbye. Jswamy (talk) 18:44, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Jswamy! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Jaya Bachchan that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 23:46, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
