November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated.

Stats

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive graphs
  • 58 people signed up for this drive. Of these, 48 people participated in the drive.
  • Although we did not eliminate the months we planned to (January, February, and March 2009; and August, September, and October 2010), we did reduce the backlog by 627 articles (11.2%), which was over our goal of 10%.
  • 49 awards will go out to 33 of 48 participants. Check out the complete list of barnstar winners here.

Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed.

Thank you for participating in the last 2010 backlog elimination drive! We look forward to seeing you in January!

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: HIEPism

Hello Jsfouche. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on HIEPism to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question - it's not really about a person or an organisation, and unfortunately there isn't a speedy for "made up one day". Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:16, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Oops! For some reason when I first read it, I thought I read it was about a group that adhered to the concept. I will Prod-2 the entry. Thanks!!! jsfouche ☽☾Talk 18:33, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, sometimes new religions etc are presented as an organization so that A7 is applicable, but often it's just one guy and his Big New Idea and can't be speedied. Cheers, JohnCD (talk) 18:41, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

A belated thank you!

I just got a Barnstar from another contributor via my talk page and I just saw the one you left on my user page. Thank you very, very much for the kind gesture. It's truly and deeply appreciated. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 18:29, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

other Wikipedias

If there is an incomplete or unreferenced article here on a national or language related subject with a corresponding article in the Wikipedia for that language, we normally check first, rather than deleting. If there is more information in the other Wikipedia, either translate it yourself if you know how, or, place a tag on it {{Expand German}} or whatever the language is. Buenos Aires Metro

Hey Jsfouche, how you doing, and pardon my ignorance, but in regards to Buenos Aires Metro, its getting two Wikipedia Page view statistics, one for the old name and one for the new name, here example on Line A (Buenos Aires Metro) for same dates, (first five days of December);

Line A (Buenos Aires Metro) has been viewed 125 times in 201012.

Line A (Buenos Aires) has been viewed 462 times in 201012.

any way of fixing this, Kind regards — Moebiusuibeom-en (talk) 04:37, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

  • ...you are kiding me! if i understand you correctly, that means that all links have to be changed to avoid redirects, ...or get faulty actual readings in the stats, i had a hunch that was what was happening, lots of work now, thanks for the info, cheers — Moebiusuibeom-en (talk) 15:38, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Rojo (band)

Hello Jsfouche. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Rojo (band), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Article claims importance/significance of the subject. Thank you. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 03:43, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Learn at Home 8-12

Just to let you know I've declined your request for speedy deletion of Learn at Home 8-12. Articles about schools are explicitly outside the scope of CSD criterion A7 and cannot be deleted under it. I'd suggest giving some time for the article to be improved; if it stays an unsourced sub, though, it could still be prodded or sent to AfD. —C.Fred (talk) 06:36, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the update. It appeared to be a school "program", not a school itself. Recent edits clarified that. Sorry for the trouble. --jsfouche ☽☾Talk 15:59, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

OK, but you should consider creating the article in a non-article space until it is ready. I usually make subpages on my user page, then move them when done. This avoids issues with deletion processes. Also, consider adding an "underconstruction" tag. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 19:50, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

New article

Jer 22:18, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Hello there,

I created a new article this morning under the name "Kyle Dinkheller". It is the first time I have created an article and as I was looking through the history, I noticed your name pop up. I'm not sure if you edit material on wikipedia often. I am a novice but I enjoy the site very much and would like to contribute. Do you happen to know if I posted this article correctly? Is there anything I need to do or change? Thank you for your assistance.

Good day,

I made a few edits to the article. Mostly keeping the date format and verb tense consistent. I also added some "citation needed" tags. If you can locate references for these items, please added them. Otherwise, great job! jsfouche ☽☾Talk 02:56, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi! I've received an OTRS notification (ticket #2010121110004371) that the article Michael McGrady was marked for deletion due to lack of references. COI

Hi Jsfouche
Thanks for your comments about COI. Since it's my first contribution I didn't realise that I could ask you directly (still feeling my way around!) and posted question on the help page AND my user page. Sorry!
I have already requested a change of user name to avoid confusion (it's only me).
I've also added a COI statement on my user page (I've been working for this company for the last 20 years and thought that it would be a good place to start!) and on the Discussion page of Hyland Language Centre. Do you think the page is neutral enough? I've tried my best!
I'd like to try me hand at creating a Spanish version of this page before starting on others but do you think that this realy would be COI and I should wait to see if someone else creates it?
Many thanks

Hello, thanks for moving the page. However, there seem to be multiple "John Norris" politicians in the British Parliament, so it may be out of place to move it to this pagename. Your thoughts?--ForgottenHistory (talk) 15:50, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

At this point, there are no other articles with that title. I cannot recall seeing an article with the date of death in the title, so that is why I moved it. Are there middle initials that can be used to help disambiguate? jsfouche ☽☾Talk 15:59, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Mahmoud Saeed

Please, help me to improve my post about Mahmoud Saeed. I want to add a Russian translation and link it to existing English and Arabic versions and then expand the article. But I don't know how. That's my first time adding information on Wikipedia. Thank you.

The article already exists in the English Wikipedia, that is why the article you created was deleted. If you want to create translations into Russian and Arabic, you would need to do those in other wikipedias in those languages, not the English one. You can find other wikipedias from the main www.wikipedia.org website. If you wish to contribute to the English article, you can, but it must be in English and must follow Wikipedia guidelines. Good luck!!! jsfouche ☽☾Talk 23:59, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

I contested your speedy as the article seemed to make some claims to importance, and added an independent source. Not convinced it meets WP:ORG (I might not contest a PROD), but it does just enough to beat the A7 requirement. Alzarian16 (talk) 19:29, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

People's religion

1. First of all, I think Larry_King should go under the category: [Category:American_people_of_Belarusian-Jewish_descent] because it says in the article that his parents emigrated from Belarus and they were Jewish. Also I think Peter_Douglas and Eric_Douglas should go under that category as since their father Kirk_Douglas is listed under that category as well. 2. I think it should be noted in the Alexandra_Powers article that her mother is Katharyn_Powers and was a writer for variety of TV series. This article says they are related: http://www.museumstuff.com/learn/topics/Katharyn_Powers Also I think in the Katharyn_Powers article these links should be added: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0584251/ http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Katharyn_Powers http://www.moviefone.com/celebrity/katharyn-powers/2035049/main http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Katharyn_Powers In the Alexandra Powers article I created I found a website that says she is in Scientology. Here's the website: http://www.truthaboutscientology.com/stats/by-name/a/alexandra-powers.html Should this be used as a reference in the article? Please let me know.Neptunekh2 (talk) 06:55, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

I procedurally removed the PROD you placed on this article because it had been so nominated before. Instead I have listed it at AfD. I42 (talk) 16:57, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Underground rapid transit CfD

Hey there, Jsfouche. Just FYI, I closed the CfD nomination on Underground rapid transit as "put it all back" because of the out-of-process removal of the categories. If you're not familiar with how CfD works, we don't remove category contents until the nomination is closed. In this case, I think your nomination would have passed had you not done that, so feel free to renominate. Thanks for helping clean up the category structure!--Mike Selinker (talk) 18:14, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the notification, Mike. I think the CfD instructions need to be revised. The instructions say "Categories that have been listed for more than seven days are eligible for deletion, renaming or merging when a rough consensus to do so has been reached or no objections to the nomination have been raised." After 7 days, there were no objections, so I completed the process. If that is not the intent of the above instructions, I apologize, but do think they should be revised to indicate that. I would also respectfully ask that you reconsider the decision. If you feel that the nom was likely a good idea, then why not follow it? Especially since the 7 day waiting period passed without objection, it can be argued that a consensus was reached at the end of 7 days.--jsfouche ☽☾Talk 21:54, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
The CfD instructions don't overrule the general deletion guidelines shown here. The key quote is "Closing discussions in which you have offered an opinion or for a page in which you have a vested interest (i.e. a page that you have edited heavily) should be avoided. The sole exception is if you are closing your own withdrawn nomination as a speedy keep and all other viewpoints expressed were for keep as well." So that's the guideline we follow. I suppose it could be called out at the top of the CfD page. What I said was that it might have passed if you hadn't deleted the category contents, but since you did, people were registering opinions without the facts. So I don't want to close that discussion as a delete until people are evaluating it on the basis of what they can see. It's not that big a deal that the categories take another week to resolve themselves. Renominate them, tagging and listing them appropriately, and then let's see what happens.--Mike Selinker (talk) 22:12, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Will do. Again, I apologize for misunderstanding the instructions. Rest assured, I have read them thoroughly this time. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 21:57, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Cool. The process on CfD can be Byzantine, but it keeps everyone happy. (Well, mostly everyone.)--Mike Selinker (talk) 22:00, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

The article has an expired PROD on it. It sat there for 7 days, and once it was expired, you contested it and removed the expired PROD. I am not interested enough in pursuing an AfD for an expired PROD, so someone else can AfD it if they want. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 16:17, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

SP Metro

Excellent work! I have been waiting for someone to expand this. Sw2nd (talk) 21:34, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you! I will continue to work on it. I am also going to work on the CPTM train system once I complete the Metro articles. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 21:46, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
I have created a style for "Infobox station" which uses the same pale blue bars as on the website and headings in dark blue text. With the {{{type}}} parameter I insert a logo and a link to "List of São Paulo Metro stations". I am going to follow some of you station articles and upgrade them with an infobox, info from the List and images from Commons. Sw2nd (talk) 22:39, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
I chose to keep the header clean rather than using "type". You have entered "Rapid transit" which does not link to anything directly related to the station, only to the Metro. I initially used "Metro station" linked to the related List of São Paulo Metro stations, which I made redundant by using the logo. Also, navigation templates should only be inserted where you wish to navigate to/from related articles that are in that template. The one you have used should be in the lines but not the stations. What we should have is a template like this [2], not the one you have inserted. Sw2nd (talk) 02:29, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm working on a navbox template for the stations. You're doing enough - you've already set up the structure of the lines and stations for me to follow. I'll be back with this soon - thanks. Sw2nd (talk) 02:51, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
I've done a lot of the conversion at Template:São Paulo Metro navbox. Sw2nd (talk) 03:19, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Wow! Four minutes apart and exactly the same. I'll delete my version. Sw2nd (talk) 03:26, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Oops! Sorry! I created it in Pages (much easier to edit and find/replace), then pasted it. I hate that we both did it at the same time, LOL! Oh well. I will also fix the stations I edited to match the infobox entries you did. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 03:29, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

CPTM stations

Try in the infobox, like SP metro. Change the size until it looks good. I have changed the CPTM style to be black and grey, which should look corporate when combined with the red symbol. Sw2nd (talk) 16:27, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

The only thing I can figure out is that I added a custom script to Twinkle to add the "notenglish" tag to articles. Would the template in a script cause that? jsfouche ☽☾Talk 22:11, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you first for the Barnstar - I don't usually wear my medals in public. Thank you for the work you've done on São Paulo transportation. I will leave that to you now, but if you need help with anything - just let me know. I was working on Rotterdam Metro stations, and they need to be completed. I will then boldly seek out another system, like Captain Kirk. One final note about the templates you have created for the lines, which mimic an Infobox with the inclusion of a route diagram. What you should have done is use the real Template:Infobox rail line and insert your line template, edited to only include the route, under the parameter {{{map}}}. The full details of line extension dates should be included in the body of the article as either a paragraph of text or a table. See Blue Line (Sacramento RT) or Sviatoshynsko-Brovarska Line for similar examples. Thanks again. Sw2nd (talk) 00:25, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

You're quite welcome! I have appreciated the help! After I complete SP Metro, I plan to do the CPTM lines in SP, then move to Rio and the others in Brazil. Put my Portuguese skills to good use! Thanks for the suggestion! I do like that template better. I just copied from the PT Wiki, and did not bother to see if there was a better template on EN. Happy editing!! jsfouche ☽☾Talk 03:24, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Jsfouche, sorry for getting back so late about this. The article describes what a flight nurse does, so I personally think keeping it at its current name is fine; also, Elen of the Roads provided a few examples of pages that had the same way of naming as the above page. Do you have examples of pages that are named with "-ing"? I'd be more than happy to move it for the reason you gave if it's for consistency purposes. Airplaneman 01:39, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of Carmen Harra page

Jsfouche,

Please be kind enough to explain why you so speedily deleted the most recent page I have created entitled "Carmen Harra." I understand my previous attempts at creating this article have been rightfully deleted, but I fail to understand the reason for deletion of my most recent attempt. I have sent the consent of Carmen Harra herself to use material directly from her website to Wikipedia, I have added several references outside of her website, and she IS a notable person worthy of having a Wikipedia page. She has written six books, has made countless TV appearances, and has been featured in many major publications, so why would this topic not be acceptable criteria to Wikipedia? I have not added any personal opinion regarding Carmen Harra and the article is not biased in nature. So, again, why the incredibly quick deletion?
You claim to be a brother of this Earth, and that you are ashamed of how we mistreat our Mother Earth. I can therefore assume that you endorse peace, unity, and kindness. If this is the case, are you aware that two of Carmen Harra's most recent books, The Eleven Eternal Princples and Wholelines, speak of only these principles which are so dear to you? You of all other administrators should understand that she is a notable person worthy of her own Wikipedia space. Before I even had the chance to add any new references to the article in order to improve it, it was completely removed. I am literally hurt by the inconsiderate manner in which you have approached the immediate deletion of this article which I have slaved over for hours.
You have hurt a fellow human of this Earth.

  • The article was deleted via an "Articles for discussion" process. The Wikipedia community reached a consensus that the subject does not meet notability criteria on Wikipedia. Such articles should not be created unless the subject's notability has been established. Wikipedia guidelines are a separate subject from my personal spiritual beliefs. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 04:28, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Buenos Aires Metro

Good going Jsfouche, new templates looking really great!! however, Carabobo Station (Buenos Aires Metro) should be Carabobo (Buenos Aires Metro) and i'm having a problem moving page, any tricks you know for doing this move, cheers — Moebiusuibeom-en (talk) 03:45, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

  • It's because the original article name was moved by you. I can only move back pages if there are no other edits on the other page. A bot made an edit to it, so I cannot move it back. I have requested an Admin to do the move as noncontroversial. They will process the move soon. I'm glad you like the changes. I will continue to edit the remainder of the stations, but you are welcome to help out! Just copy the infobox template and edit it for each page. Also, I am changed the "Buenos Aires Transit" navigational template to the "Buenos Aires Metro Stations" navigation template. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 04:32, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

File:Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.png and various articles

Please do not add File:Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.png to the infobox of various stations as you did here. First, the non-free image being iconicized like that would never be acceptable under WP:NFCC, and second all the uses failed WP:NFCC #10c for lacking a rationale for that use. If you have questions, ask. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 21:13, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Well, maybe we could opt for this icon in the mean time → Moebiusuibeom-en (talk) 05:12, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
