Liveman and Ohranger

[edit]

I have moved these pages back because "Choujuu" and "Chouriki" are the more common names and the names officially used by the production company. We only use the Hepburn spelling of the first name if that is what the series uses (see Jetman, Zyuranger, and Abaranger).—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 18:36, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The link that you gave me doesn't use the proper Hepburn spellings of "Kyouryuu" (Kyōryū) and "Choujin" (Chōjin) either. I wouldn't give it much weight, since it seems to be a very informal list (even if it's from the official website) and a lot of those suggested "international titles" aren't even actually used in the foreign market (nobody actually calls Hokuto no Ken "Ken the Great Bear Fist"). And just for the record, there's an Ohranger album that uses the spelling Chōriki instead of "Chouriki" (link here) and I remember seeing the spelling Chōjū Sentai Liveman in a merchandise. Either way, it's inconsistent to use proper Hepburn for Chōjin Sentai and Kyōryū Sentai, and then use the pseudo-Wapuro spelling for everything else.Jonny2x4 (talk) 19:46, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter because "Kyōryū" and "Chōjin" appear in the show as well as on the toys in English. The other spellings exist because they are the WP:COMMONNAME. "Chōriki" I'll give you and I'll move that back, but I'm not sure if I've ever seen anything for Liveman as "Chōjū" (we should default to the wapuro as that's what Toei has used and is currently using).—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 20:53, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's not "English", it's Romanized Japanese, but whatever. My point is that Japanese companies are very inconsistent at romanizing names. They might use a spelling at one point, only to switch to another spelling in a different instance. For example, the name of the villain group from Chōdenshi Bioman is spelled "Gear" in one Super Sentai Club trading card and "Gia" in this guidebook. It usually depends of the product. If you notice on the first link, the Taiyō Sentai Sun Vulcan trading card spells the team's name "Taiyoh Sentai" as well. Speaking of which, Sun Vulcan is spelled as Sun Vulkan on the Real Action Heroes toy packaging (even though the DVDs in Japan use "Sun Vulcan"). With made up names like Jūrenjā and Dairenjā, it's best to use whatever spelling the company mainly uses, but with words that uses Kanji like Kyōryū and Chōjin, Hepburn is the best option. The only exception would be stuff like Rescue (Kyūkyū) Sentai and Engine (Enjin) Sentai, where they're romanized a certain way on the show itself. Also, should it be Kyōryū Sentai (two words) or Kyōryūsentai (one word)? Jonny2x4 (talk) 22:04, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If reliable sources use the wapuro style we go with that. And common usage trumps any other naming guideline as it is a policy aspect. And it is clear that it should be two words because that is how it is formatted in almost every regard except in rare cases (and that is how the kanji separate anyway).—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 01:05, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm only asked that, because on Zyuranger itself, the Dyno Bucklers have Kyorūsentai as one word, as does the Ohranger soundtrack that I showed you (which has Chōrikisentai as one word too). I wasn't actually suggesting to move them into one words, just making a rhetorical question. Either way, I still think Hepburn should be given preferences over pseudo-wapuro for formality sakes if there's no "official" romanization. Jonny2x4 (talk) 18:04, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of what you think, the common practice for dealing with these names is to use the wapuro system unless an official name is used. And what Toei shows us in the link I gave you shows that for shows that don't have spellings plastered all over the merch, that our method matches theirs.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 18:38, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

When you move pages, please try to fix the redirects that are left behind.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 18:39, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cover art

[edit]

Don't want to bother you, but for example, I created this page now Snoopy's Magic Show and... I played this game when I was a kid (I bought the Japanese release), but the North American box art is cool, and to be honest, it illustrates the game/article "better" than the Japanese cover art, because Snoopy and Woodstock (Peanuts) appears in the cover.

Just wanted to give you this example. --Hydao (talk) 07:15, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's nice. Jonny2x4 (talk) 22:04, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MK2

[edit]

I personally think the arcade machine is a better representation for the main image, rather than a promotional poster. Just giving you my opinion.--SexyKick 07:12, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

hey dude, do you think this article should be deleted? Gaia Saver

Metal Gear

I think this lame-creature vandalized lots of pages related to Metal Gear. Watch out!

I think I'm going to upload a small picture of Fighter Roar. What do you think? --Hydao (talk) 14:20, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Already done. Jonny2x4 (talk) 08:02, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
:) --Hydao (talk) 09:04, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I added an image to the infobox, if you don't like it, or think there are better images, please replace it. by the way, your edits rocks. respect! --Hydao (talk) 09:15, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's not an ideal image, seeing how they only wear those medieval armor in only one game. Jonny2x4 (talk) 18:03, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Anyway, Template:Super Robot Wars, the Other titles should be renamed or something? I'm not sure if it makes sense creating a Template with all the Compati Hero Series games. --Hydao (talk) 02:55, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Takara/Takuyo

[edit]

Dude, when you have time check this:

Aren't they related? Or... well, it seems that Takuyo exists since 1997? They have nothing to do with each other, right... and those SFC games were published by Takara, not "Takuyo"? Anyway, I didn't change the page yet because I'm not 100% sure. Please take a look.--Hydao (talk) 09:12, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Forget it, I already corrected the mistakes, I think. That user GVnayR really needs a punishment... for adding false/incorrect info all the time. >_<" --Hydao (talk) 13:17, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I added that picture because the game was going to be released in North America. Anyway, the article is already "big" (which is good) so it deserves at least one more picture for a better illustration. --Hydao (talk) 09:29, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree, it's a copyrighted image for the sake of having a copyrighted image. It looks out of place when the game itself is barely notable to begin with, planned U.S. release or not (a lot of games get announced and then canceled, it's not as uncommon as you think). There's not much to write about the game (having played it myself), since it's just a typical sub-mediocre anime tie-in (and probably the reason why the U.S. release was canceled in the first place). The canceled U.S. release has a citation anyway and the cover is only there just to show that the game has a cover, nothing more (if we're going to have an image for the game cover, we might as well have an image for every piece of Metal Jack merchandise made). It also messes the layout of the page and I much rather have an image of the show's main cast for the characters section (which I'll upload later). I only expanded the article because it seems the ridiculous that the only information previous editors added were about a tie-in game and the voice actor for a side-character. Jonny2x4 (talk) 18:15, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Affirmative. --Hydao (talk) 19:06, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kamen Rider #1 & #2

[edit]

A number followed by "gō" indicates that it is a number in a series. Rather than using "No. 1" or "1st", we are going with "#1" and not moving the pages, by just saying "#" is a technical issue in article titles. Do not change things, again.—Ryulong (竜龙) 23:05, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The way Toei and Ishimori Productions romanizes their names says otherwise and ultimately they're the ones who own the franchise, not you nor me (here's a video from the official Kamen Rider Christmas Tree). Besides, you don't own these articles. If I see anything wrong, I have every right to correct them. Jonny2x4 (talk) 00:19, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Just be sure to correct every page.—Ryulong (竜龙) 00:40, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't like using that template that says that the "correct title of this article has a number sign" since it implies that the official romanizations have number signs when they do not. If localizing "Ichigō" and "Nigō" is that important to you, why not just spell them out in the article titles as "Kamen Rider No. 1" and "Kamen Rider No. 2" like it is done with certain official products. Personally I would just leave them as "Kamen Rider 1" and "Kamen Rider 2" since more products use "Rider 1" than "Rider No. 1". Jonny2x4 (talk) 21:48, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
God damn, whatever. No more "Kamen Rider #1" and "Kamen Rider #2".—Ryulong (竜龙) 21:51, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun: Kunio-tachi no Banka

[edit]

Hey Jonny2x4, it seems that you are a Kunio-kun fan, just like me. Anyway, I really wanted to create the Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun: Kunio-tachi no Banka wiki-page, what do you think? --Hydao (talk) 06:00, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Or maybe you'll do it(?), but make sure you'll upload "extremely cool" ones, ok? :) I uploaded the manual here: http://www.giantbomb.com/shin-nekketsu-kouha-kunio-kun-kunio-tachi-no-banka/61-5471/images/ --Hydao (talk) 08:22, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hitoshi Yamagami's interview

[edit]

Hi there, Jonny2x4. Will you do me a favor? Will you expand Balloon Kid's "Development" section using this webpage? Parrothead1983 (talk) 21:01, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've just read the interview, but it doesn't really say that much of interest. The person being interview is Hitoshi Yamagami (chief of producer for Nintendo's R&D1 division), who directed the GBC version. He talks a bit about the original NES Balloon Fight designed by Sakamoto and says the GBC version was developed due to demand for a Balloon Fight sequel and that the success of Game Boy Gallery made them consider making an updated version of Balloon Kid (an overseas-only release) for the Japanese market. Other than, he mostly spends the interview describing the various game modes and other basic information. Jonny2x4 (talk) 06:56, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Then the Balloon Kid article's "Development" and "Reception" sections should merge and be like the one in the Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters article. Then, add all necessary info from that interview to point at the GBC release. Parrothead1983 (talk) 05:18, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

SNESmusic

[edit]

Hey Jonny2x4, wanna ask you a question. You know the site "SNESmusic.org", right? There is a great guy in there, his nick is KungFuFurby, he dumps stuff and etc, very competent... however he can't read Japanese at all, and some Japanese-language games requires some game menu translations (just words or short sentences, no long texts) for tagging (give a proper name to the track).

Lately I've been helping him and the site in general (the last one I helped with was Super Wrestle Angels, however the "problem" is... I think my English is not good enough, not as good as yours, that's for sure...

Do you wanna help once in a while with (short) translations? That would be great. As I said before it's just stuff from game menu, or track titles (in Japanese) that are in the Options mode, no big deal I guess.

If you don't mind or simply are interested in helping/contributing a little, please say me something or... just register on that forum and introduce yourself! :)

It is very important having one more brain in there. Cheers.

P.S. Oh... and btw, one more question... a guy asked me about Shin Nekketsu Kouha: Kunio Tachi no Banka artwork. Here: http://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=LHLZunmMaLg ... do you know who's the manual artist? --Hydao (talk) 16:24, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really know who was the package illustrator for Kunio-tachi no Banka since he isn't credited in the game (all I know is that it wasn't Masao Shiroto according to Mr. Kishimoto). There are multiple character designers credited, but I think they're just the sprite designers. As for SNESmusic, I'll see what I can do. Jonny2x4 (talk) 21:59, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok Jonny2x4. :) But well, one example, I already translated this (it's from a RPG game): http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q213/chromossomax6/genjuu.jpg ... to English. Can I copy/paste here my Japanese to English translations of these track titles so you can take a quick look and perhaps rectify something? Thanks. --Hydao (talk) 05:03, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've posted the translations of that BGM list below. Jonny2x4 (talk) 21:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BGM list

[edit]
  • 00. Stormbringer
  • 01. Daybreak
  • 02. Omen
  • 03. A King's Lament
  • 04. Do Monsters Dream?
  • 05. Restless Battle
  • 06. The Unknown
  • 07. Dispatch
  • 09. Castle in the Sky
  • 11. Lava Zone
  • 12. Evil Beast Mountain Base
  • 13. Hellish Desert
  • 14. Sorrowful Warrior
  • 15. Fortress Conquest
  • 16. Graveyard of Monsters
  • 17. Mizugami's Decisive Battle
  • 18. Wandering the Ghost Realm
  • 19. The Last March
  • 20. Battle #1
  • 24. Victory March
  • 25. Old Ceremony
  • 26. The Fracturing of a Young Girl
  • 27. Eliminated...
  • 28. Occupation Theme
  • 29. Transformation
  • 30. Unto a New Journey
You were too fast! In fact I already translated it, I just wanted you to take a look but you opted instead to translate again. =) But the two translations are maybe 85% similar with each other. 26 you said "The Fracturing of a Young Girl", I said "prayer to the maiden", 17 you said "Mizugami's Decisive Battle", I said "battle on the sea"... etc. Anyway, the RPG game is called Genjū Ryodan (幻獣旅団), these tracks have nothing to do with Super Wrestle Angels, lol. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. When this SPC set is available we will put your nick Jonny2x4 (tagger) in there ok. --Hydao (talk) 22:20, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Btw, you misread 祈り as 折り. It's "prayer", not "fracturing". Thanks. ^_^--Hydao (talk) 22:58, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I got confused a bit (I was told it was from RPG, but didn't notice that part), but the BGM titles at least makes more sense now. I was under the impression that the title on BGM 17 was a character's name because of that. Jonny2x4 (talk) 23:19, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine, your help was still useful. =) About Super Wrestle Angels or any other game, if I need you to confirm the English words/titles, I will ask you again (hope you don't mind of course). Btw, a friend of mine said this (about the translation you made): "I only glanced over his other translations quickly so I might have missed something but he's definitely a lot more liberal with them than I am with mine. I translate things very literally." --Hydao (talk) 09:16, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hiryu no Ken

[edit]

Hey Jonny2x4. I created the Hiryū no Ken series article. If necessary, can you add information from the Japanese article into this English version? Parrothead1983 (talk) 10:05, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Jonny2x4, when you have some free time please check this page America Ōdan Ultra Quiz (video game series). The Japanese wiki-article is kinda big, but anyway, take a look at the Japanese one. I wanted to type just a small introduction on the English wiki-page, maybe you can help a little bit? I already added categories and everything, now it only needs a decent text. --Hydao (talk) 02:22, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Street Fighter question

[edit]

Hi, I'm contacting you because I can see you've put in a lot of edits at the Street Fighter II article so I'm hoping you can help me figure this mess out. I have a score from a Famitsu magazine that I'd like to add. The game as they list it looks like this: Street Fighter II: Dash Plus (ストリートファイターII ダッシュプラス, Sutoritofaita II Dasshupurasu) (well anyway the katakana does. I've added the rest). So my question is whether this entry refers to

  1. The MegaDrive version of Street Fighter II
  2. Some version of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition
  3. The MegaDrive version of Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting
  4. Or something yet different

When I input the kana into en.wikipedia, I get directed to "Street Fighter II′: Special Champion Edition", but the only Wikipedia entry beginning in "Street Fighter II'" (with an apostrophe after the "II") is "Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting" which is a redirect to "Street Fighter II". The "Hyper Fighting" article claims that "Dash Plus" was the MegaDrive version of "Hyper Fighting". Checking ja.wikipedia hasn't made it any clearer. Suffice it to say I'm completely baffled about what I have a score for. Can you shed some light on this for me? -Thibbs (talk) 23:33, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note. It's starting to get clearer for me now. Am I right in thinking then that the "Hyper Fighting" article is correct in its claim that the Japanese "Dash Plus" is in fact the MegaDrive version of "Hyper Fighting" and that it is not "Street Fighter II′: Special Champion Edition"? -Thibbs (talk) 00:57, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And the title of "Street Fighter II: Dash Plus", is probably just a shorthand way of saying "Street Fighter II Dash Plus: Champion Edition" right? -Thibbs (talk) 03:04, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Portable Ops canon.

[edit]

Okay, in case you've forgotten, the Legacy Collection's timeline was probably a marketing stunt for the games included in the Legacy Collection rather than an actual cohesive timeline. It's no different than when the official Peace Walker site failed to list the MSX2 games in that timeline on their promotional site. As far as that Truth timeline, that same timeline had quite a bit of errors riddled throughout it: for example, it claimed that Big Boss fell into a vat of sulfuric acid in MG2SS, which quite clearly is not true not only from how MG2 shows it, but the fact that this info contradicts MGS and even MGS4. They also have a habit of reusing outdated information: For instance, the truth timeline listed the events of MGS4 as being 20XX (taken from MGSagas, which was released before MGS4), yet the game quite clearly stated its timeframe as 2014, and thus its timeframe is well known by the time truth was published. Heck, the timeline on the official site (or at least, what used to be the timeline before they removed it for Versus Battle) listed PW, even when they updated the site to take into account The Phantom Pain's GDC appearance. Super Contra arcade European version

[edit]

I'm curious about the European version of Super Contra for arcade. Besides the promotional brochure, I cannot find any other record or indication of a European release for the game. Conversely, I'm only able to find sites stating that it was not released in that region; or that Europe simply received the North American version complete with the North American cabinet. No distinct European version. I'd like clarification on this so I can make the appropriate changes in my resource. Thanks.Terminegen (talk) 00:14, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The new wording for the Super Contra article is definitely much better. It seems more like the exact same version was released in both North America and Europe. I'm still curious about this, so I will investigate it further in arcade forums.Terminegen (talk) 16:23, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
