How to sign articles
[edit]Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Benjamin M. Emanuel (2nd nomination), you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. Khukri 14:41, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
The article Jan Oskar Hansen has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable writer - fails WP:AUTHOR
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. andy (talk) 15:47, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Reply: I see that my reply to this has been deleted. For the record, here it is:
Proposal to remove Jan Oskar Hansen page Several times over the past few years editors have objected to one thing and another on the Jan Oskar Hansen page. I have attempted each time to correct the page to please the editors. This time I am hoping that another one or two of Mr. Hansen's many fans in the literary world will come to the rescue. If not, I will try again. I have until the 24th according to the current posted warning. Mr. Hansen is a well-known author; that is indisputable. Lapwing's page on Wikipedia cites him as an important author, BeWrite Books recognizes him. Etc. etc. etc. He has had many books and poems published. The last time i corrected his Wikipedia page, one of the issues was that there were not enough "secondary sources". In attempting to provide them, some copy was posted that sounds promotional. This can be easily remedied with a little rewriting. Many people in the literary field admire Mr. Hansen's work, and it is easy to want others to read it (thus, the promotional aspects). One of the warnings posted on the page right now advises going to the talk page to discuss the article and its proposed deletion. However, above, on this page, is stated that "This page is not for comments..to a specific article..." Not having anywhere else to post my commentary, I am leaving it here. If that is not all right, then of course I will remove it. Or give the editor-in-charge permission to do so.
It would be a shame to take down the Jan Oskar Hansen page. The author is well-known and copy that appears to be advertising in nature can easily be corrected. I am a professional editor myself -- this is my opinion. ---- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joneve (talk • contribs) 01:57, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Jan Oskar Hansen
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jan Oskar Hansen, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. MrOllie (talk) 16:14, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 17:08, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Reply: I was attempting to rewrite the article to remove the promotional aspects objected to, and didn't want the article deleted before I could finish the job. Yes, I should have used the "hang on" option; but as the former "take down" warning had said that the page would not be taken down until the 24th, and that changed without warning I didn't want the same thing to happen with my not getting a chance to do the work. However, it did happen, and the page is down. It could have, and would have been, fixed with a little patience. I would have preferred that others do the work though; one former complaint was "lack of secondary sources". The reason it was not done by others is that it takes a little while to learn how to work in Wikipedia. When the tag for speedy deletion was added, the first paragraph with vital statistics (date, place of birth, occupation) was (perhaps unintentionally) removed by another editor, and at the end of the article a request for same was added by an editor. This gave a stronger appearance of advertising intent to the page and also prompted me to work on the article with the "speedy delete" tag removed. It was in the interest of justice for the poet and the desire for an optimum outcome that I removed the speedy delete tag while I worked; not trusting that I would have a chance to finish the work otherwise. This is by way of explanation - I do not intend to write more for this site. I'm hoping in future someone else will return Mr. Hansen to his rightful place here as a known and respected contemporary poet. (Joneve)
N.B.: I've added my previous reply (see "Proposed Deletion of Jan Oskar Hansen" above), to show the progression of events to the speedy deletion of Mr. Hansen's page. It is fairness to the poet and his supporters to have a more complete transcript of these events for our records. Eliminating my previous reply gives a distorted impression of the progression, as though no attempt to communicate was made to "User talk" at that time to keep the page up. (Joneve)
