Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Jonesdolph. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Barry Irwin, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Because you identified yourself as Mr. Irwin's wife, I thought this is information you should be made aware of. Stefen Towers among the rest! Gab • Gruntwerk 18:09, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Further, I'd like to request that communications about an article either go on the article's talk page, or if about a user's work (my ill-fated typo correction), on the user's talk page. That is the norm on the Wikipedia. Thank you! Stefen Towers among the rest! Gab • Gruntwerk 18:12, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Stefen - I have only just now read this Talk Page message regarding Conflict of Interest. I fully understand the position you have described, and how I may have a conflict as I am the subject's wife. I made several changes to Barry Irwin's page today, and also on the page for our business Team Valor International; minor statistical changes and updates, prior to reading this message. In future I will use the COI template on the talk page for these updates. - Kathleen Irwin Jonesdolph (talk) 17:54, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
