Floor plans

Hi Jonathan, I hope you had a good festive break? I noticed you created some very attractive floor plans in some of the castle articles and (rather cheekily) I'm curious as to how you did them? I very recently did an article for Inchdrewer Castle and was wondering about the possibility of a reproduction of the plans in the MacGibbon and Ross book? Kinneil House

Hi Jonathan, I've briefly been looking at the Kinneil House article in an attempt to sort out some (what I believe) original research recently included by an IP; I believe I've taken the 'Ghost' section back to what can be supported by the refs. There is a link to the Canmore details on Kinneil that is included at the bottom of the list of refs, which I think is supposed to be a ref for something? I'm dropping a note here as it looks as if you may have added it - it was way back in May 2010 (and of course you're going to remember exactly why ). Any suggestions at all? Hi Jonathan, no I'm not working on Kinneil House; I was just trying to tidy up behind the IP. At the moment I've got myself bogged down in Forglen House which I couldn't believe there wasn't already an article for! I'm waiting on a copy of David Miller's "Tudor Johnny" book being delivered - I had it from the library but they eventually needed it back so I decided to buy one. Once I get my own copy I'm hoping that between it and the Charles McKean "Banff & Buchan" book I have, I will be able to fill out some more of the stubby castles (like Fedderate Castle for instance). The trouble is, when you look at one thing, it rapidly leads to something else and I do have a habit of getting bogged down in too much detail! All the more difficult as I don't really know much about architecture so don't understand the terms etc, that's why Inchdrewer Castle is a bit light on that sort of information. I know exactly what you mean... Kinneil House is one of my perennial 'to do' projects. Thanks for tidying up, I'll maybe look back at it, again (or maybe not...). Historic Scotland

Hi Jonathan, I noticed you'd done a (few?) AWB runs to update the Historic Scotland links, thank you! I don't have access to AWB so don't know much about it except it doesn't work with Macs. I was wondering if it is fairly quick to run an article through it? Forglen House has just been moved over to main space from my user draft and I think it has a mixture of old and new Historic Scotland links. I had done archive links for them but I'm unsure if I need to manually update to the new HS ones? A DYK nomination has been submitted for it, so I don't want complaints when/if it eventually reaches the main page. I seem to spend half my time bothering you nowadays, sorry! Yes I did, hopefully got most of them. Need to go back and check the scheduled monument and GDL links too though. Looking at Forglen it seems all the HS links are to the new site (they start with "data.historic-scotland.gov.uk" rather than the old "hsewsf.sedsh.gov.uk") so you should be fine. Drill Hall article

Johnathan I enjoy your work and comments but the title here is a bit sloppy as at least a dozen drill halls still exist in town... and there used to be even more... can you make the title more specific ----Stephencdickson (talk) 12:02, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Copyright/Licencing

Thank you for your recent comments. As you will probably pick up I have a particular interest in Scottish architects and sculptors. Perhaps you can clarify... I am fairly sure I can take a picture of sculpture without breaching copyright or requiring the sculptor's consent.. equally (where permitted) photography of artwork within a gallery appears fair game. The Oldrieve picture is my photograph of an uncredited photograph on a wall which seems to date from Oldrieve's appointment as Chief Architect (1904). I am quite well versed in copyright law having helped the Chamber of Commerce on some issues and my understanding is that even where copyrighted correctly this lapses after a max 100 years (sometimes less)..certainly in the case of this photo "copyright" is not the issue, but I am happy for you to guide me on a more appropriate licence .. By the way, I think we are both in Edinburgh, a meet up may be useful to give me some mentoring tips..--Stephencdickson (talk) 11:36, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
