Welcome!
[edit]Hello, JonathanGBall, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! SarahStierch (talk) 00:33, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 18:27, 4 January 2013 (UTC)- I moved the article to Spiritismes rather than the combined name, as this seems to be the official name. If this is wrong, just move the thing yourself. If you don't know how, see WP:MOVE. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 18:30, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Why delete the list of resurrected works
[edit]Thank you for your efforts to improve this article, but why did you delete the list of works? Please discuss before deleting again. thank you, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:41, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
In a recent interview, the filmmaker, Maddin, discussed changes to the project, and noted that "the films shot for the *Seances* will NEVER exist as stand-alone shorts. They will only be broken up into fragments and placed in the *Seances* program for recombinations and endless permutations for the visitors to the interactive." JonathanGBall (talk) 19:47, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- That's an interesting detail that I agree could be added. However, I don't see why a thorough encyclopedia article on this project should not include the list of films "resurrected," if we have reliable sources. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:54, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
December 2014
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to Wikipedia. However, please remember that editors do not own articles and should respect the work of their fellow contributors on Seances (film). If you create or edit an article, remember that others are free to change its content. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but you appear to have removed several reliable sources in favour of exclusively citing yourself. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:46, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
Would it be better to return the original material and then supplement it with explanation of the project changes from the more recent interviews? JonathanGBall (talk) 19:51, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. I appreciate that you're trying to update and tighten the article. I just became concerned about your removal of some independent reliable sources in favour of only cites to your own blog article. So I didn't touch the rest of your new content. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:58, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
That makes sense. I thought maybe it would be bad to have contradictory info. Maybe I should restore a lot of the older info with the original sources, and frame it to show the development?
- If there were inaccuracies that you've corrected, I don't see the need to restore. Was the info "contradictory" because the preexisting info was flat-out wrong, or has there been a "development" of the project over time? We needn't show the "development" of the Wikipedia article over time, if you're correcting inaccuracies. But if you have removed information related to the history of the project, I'd be concerned. Per WP:NOTPAPER, there's no limit to how much detail we can go into, if it's encyclopedically notable. Does that answer your question? thanks, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:08, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- Also, if you wish, I can easily restore to the article to its previous state and we can go from there, working to together. I can help you in terms of correctly formatting your blogpost reference, etc. Please let me know if this is something you'd like. best, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:11, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
You know more about the policies than I do, so do that if you think it makes sense. I feel like the thing needs to be rewritten entirely, but maybe it makes sense to restore the earlier version and then run a newer version past you? JonathanGBall (talk) 20:24, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- I don't want to undo all your work. I'd be content to leave your new sections as is, along with the now-restored passages on the resurrected film and theatrical and interactive launches -- and just format things a little better. But do you still believe the article needs to be "rewritten entirely," even after all your changes? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:27, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
I mean rewritten from the original version, not this one ... do you want to take this over for now, and do the reformatting you've noted? It would be good to also have some info about how those "resurrected films" aren't really going to be released but fragmented into the interactive, etc. Then maybe after I see what you do, I could spend some time tomorrow bringing the section in the main Maddin article in line with this stuff? JonathanGBall (talk) 20:34, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'll do some tinkering and clean up now, sure. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:38, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
Great, thanks!! I have to go offline and pick up my daughter. Also, re: the resurrected films... since the project shifted it appears that those films were really not "resurrected" at all -- everything was just originally scripted, rather than being based on historical research as previously planned and stated. That's why I wasn't sure about the value of the list. At minimum I feel it needs some sort of framing, maybe you can think of a good way to do it? Thanks a lot JonathanGBall (talk) 20:40, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- Have a look -- I've done some tidying. As you'll see, we have a way to format references so that it only appears once, at the end. And I do agree that, under the circumstances, the proposed "theatrical" seems to be no more than an abandoned intention, so I personally don't think it needs to be addressed (others may disagree later and re-add this). best, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 21:04, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
I like it! I made a minor edit, because one link was redirecting to a disambiguation page, but otherwise I think this looks much better. When the interactive site launches this year then there will be more work to do, but I think it works for now. Thanks! JonathanGBall (talk) 16:31, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Great. And while I know you're busy with your own work and writing, if you ever want to become involved in some way in Wikipedia:WikiProject Film, I'm sure your contributions would be welcome. best, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 16:45, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
I want to spend some time improving the Winnipeg Film Group-related stuff on the site, definitely. I wrote a book about John Paizs that was recently published by U of Toronto P and his stuff also needs updating. Maddin's stuff is where I've focused since his was brutally poor for the most famous of the Winnipeg filmmakers, plus it was a break from writing about Paizs, and he's the most-written about of the WFG people. I don't know if joining that wiki project would be a good or bad idea in terms of how much time I could devote, but I'll think about it. Thanks! JonathanGBall (talk) 16:55, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
