Teahouse

[edit]
Hi! JohnDVandevert, Thank you for volunteering to be a host at the Teahouse. We really appreciate your willingness to help. However, having seen a few of the problems you have got yourself into recently, I have removed your name from the Host list, as I don't think you're quite ready yet. It takes a lot of time, background knowledge and especially patience to answer new editors' questions effectively. So you should probably edit for a while longer before you sign up to be a host, and ensure that your interactions with other editors are always supportive and civil. That said, you're still very welcome to answer any questions there that you can, and we hope you continue to participate and spread the word about the Teahouse to other new Wikipedians. Come back soon! Regards Nick Moyes (talk) 14:57, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.

I have declined your CSD of Leonie Rysanek

[edit]

We have a very strict procedure when it comes to nominating an article for speedy deletion. The reason you gave is not one of them. Please feel to re-nominate under a proper criteria found at WP:CSD#List of criteria or any other acceptable deletion process if you feel it does not meet our inclusion criteria. Your draft article, Draft:Golovanovshchina

[edit]

Hello, JohnDVandevert. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Golovanovshchina".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 15:58, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Symphony No. 1 in Eb-major moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Symphony No. 1 in Eb-major, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Notice

The article Free Music School has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Has been tagged for more sourcing for 3 months without improvement. Due to the commonality of the name, searches for this specific school are problematic, but did not turn up enough to show it passes notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Speedy deletion contested: Gregory Dell'Omo

[edit]

Hello JohnDVandevert. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Gregory Dell'Omo, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The reason given is not a valid speedy deletion criterion. Thank you. BangJan1999 18:30, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Gugrak (talk) 10:54, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Classical compositions

[edit]

You asked on Classical music, and you'd get different answers from different editors. If you want to create, better go by your personal preference than what others tell you to do. Check out where red links are in the fields you like to explore. I looked at your article about Hermann Kletke, and made some changes, - please check if you agree. English Wikipedia is different in some respects from others. Interlanguage links are an especially useful tool, please use them instead of direct links into another language, {{ill}}. The article is four days too old to appear on the Main page as "new" in the DYK section, - please ping me for your next of that length and quality, because it really helps the subject to be known. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:16, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi JohnDVandevert! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Vadim Salmanov that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. FYI—it's no biggie. Just be careful when checking an edit as "minor". CurryTime7-24 (talk) 20:42, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An article you created reached GA status

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedian.

I am late by a few weeks, but it is now that I realised you were the original creator of a most interesting article, Peggy Glanville-Hicks' opera Nausicaa.

A few months ago I worked on improving the article's Greek Wikipedia version, and then worked on the English version, eventually leading the article to GA status.

I am grateful to you for bringing this wonderful subject out of oblivion and into Wikipedia's light!
For any help/advice/ideas on music, be it Western, Balkan or Eastern, you can always leave a message on my talk page.

Thank you again, L'OrfeoSon io 14:14, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the help in improving the article. It is a fascinating opera and I am so glad to have been able to bring it back to awareness! I hope it's revived some day! JohnDVandevert (talk) 14:35, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. If you are going to retitle pages please take the time to check incoming links and update them accordingly. It's your responsibility to fix all incoming links when you move a page. You should click on the "What links here" tool for both pages and make sure that all incoming links are fixed with the new titles. I changed the title for the Barber opera for you at Antony and Cleopatra (disambiguation) as a start. Best.4meter4 (talk) 17:11, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Black and White (rap group)

[edit]

Hello JohnDVandevert, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Black and White (rap group), should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Black and White (rap group).

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|ToadetteEdit}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from Slovetsky to another page. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution must be given retroactively, for example:

NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.

Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Also, please put more effort into correcting machine translation errors; the article is currently very ungrammatical. Mach61 19:21, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message. I will definitively do this. Sorry for the error :) I appreciate your guidance. JohnDVandevert (talk) 05:09, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JohnDVandevert -- I've declined this A7 because the two winners having articles forms a claim, and there is also the newspaper coverage linked. However it does look as if the competition only ran twice and López Cobos left the Teatro Real in 2010. There may be more coverage available in a Spanish language search but a quick search has not revealed much in English. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 09:06, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. But there doesn't seem to be much information on it. Doesn't that mean it's technically not qualified to be an article? JohnDVandevert (talk) 09:32, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If there really isn't very much information then indeed, but often information exists but is paywalled, or not in English, or in print, or otherwise not readily findable. I note the article was assessed back in 2008 by Voceditenore from the opera project, so presumably at that point it was considered adequately notable. You might try getting an opinion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Opera. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 10:08, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
