[edit]Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Aaron Burr. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Museum site has no particular special connection to subject of article. 2nd Submission
[edit]The first submission was rejected because it was copied from another source, which indeed it was. I am a descendant of John Ely and about 10 years ago I wrote up a biography of Ely for a family history compendium which was distributed to about 2 dozen family members. I submitted an abridged version of what I had written before. So I researched several wiki bios of Rev. War veterans and rewrote my work, hopefully in a format which is more acceptable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnElyDescendant (talk • contribs) 02:05, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
The article John Ely (surgeon) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
COI article, not nearly enough in-depth coverage to pass WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Onel5969 TT me 13:18, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Proposed deletion
[edit]I suppose that my admission that I am a descendant of John Ely led to the COI aspersion. I certainly became interested in John Ely when I discovered that I was a very distant descendant. But I believe that the citation to Goodrich's "Recollections of a Lifetime" is sufficient evidence for the inclusion of a bio of John Ely in Wikipedia. I do plan to add some additional citations, probably by next weekend. JohnElyDescendant (talk) 00:23, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
- The article is now full of citations to WP:RS. And the AFD is now history. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 14:32, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. - wolf 18:25, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
