Dear Alalch,
I understand from your decision that the error in my presentation was citing Amazon pages as references. I found them quite objective, and I have no personal interest in citing them. How can one cite a book without a link of this kind?
Thank you for your attention and encouragement (coding is a bit complicated for me!!!). John66666 (talk) 15:30, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources. I agree that it is complicated, but that's how it is. Information about living persons must be correctly sourced. The concept of citing a book is enabling the reader to connect a statement in the article prose with the page or page range of the book, which page or pages contain the exact text that verifies the statement. The really important parts are the book title (and any other information that helps identify which exact book it is such as the ISBN), author and page number/s. A link is optional. The link might be to Google Books which allow preview or to the Internet Archive which might enable reading the entire book, or to some other website which makes the book available. Linking a website where you can buy the book is not the concept. —Alalch E. 15:48, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
