Ullevi ?

Azores 14:24, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

No. Please point me to a source that says that Råsunda has a capacity of 52,000. Read this (Hemmaarena: Råsunda Stadion (36.800).), this (Capacity: 37,000), this (Totalt 36.608), and this. The reason that there is some discrepancy in the numbers is that some seats can't be used for certain matches due to safety regulations and such. Or read this for a source that says that Ullevi is the largest arena in Scandinavia. (BTW, I prefer English on the English Wikipedia, that way, any active editor can read what we've been talking about.) – Elisson • T • C • 15:32, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

FYI SndrAndrss, who you recently blocked, is evading his block by editing as SndrAndrss18 (talk · contribs). I've reported it on WP:AIV. Oldelpaso 20:46, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Judging by this contribution history, he's now editing under an anonymous IP. I haven't reported it to AIV since it's been about five hours since the last edit. However, just to let people know... --DeLarge 15:58, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Survey Invitation

Hi there, I am a research student from the National University of Singapore and I wish to invite you to do an online survey about Wikipedia. To compensate you for your time, I am offering a reward of USD$10, either to you or as a donation to the Wikimedia Foundation. For more information, please go to the research home page. Thank you. --WikiInquirer 03:40, 4 March 2007 (UTC)talk to me

Hi,

I'm wondering if you have any tip how to make the map locations for Image:Sweden-transparent.png. I'm specially wondering about Linköping, Mora and Örnsköldsvik for Elitserien#Elitserien_clubs. // SMARTSKAFT | ¿ 08:43, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

I suggest you take a look at the code used for the map at for example 2007 in Swedish football#Allsvenskan 2007, for further locations, see the map I've compiled at User:Johan Elisson/sandbox. Unfortunately it does not include Ö-vik or Mora, but it won't be too hard for you to fix them by yourself. – Elisson • T • C •
Okay, I made a formula in Excel with Rikets nät coordinates (which can be found on Eniro Maps) and the map coordinates. I added Ö-vik and Mora to your list (I hope you don't mind). // SMARTSKAFT | ¿ 14:51, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
The map (or much less likely your formula) is probably a little skewed though, take a look at how I moved Örnsköldsvik (and Mora as well) a few pixels down to better match the location with the map image. – Elisson • T • C • 15:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

User:SndrAndrss

Ref. the latest additions at SndrAndrss' discussion page. I'm not sure of his intentions, but he keeps creating lots and lots of extra work for others, e.g. by moving articles for no apparent (or rather: no valid) reasons. Please talk to him again, he doesn't seem to listen to me. Guaca 12:08, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi! He is still blocked and the edits and moves you speak about were made before his block (which expires this weekend) so I don't think anything needs to be done except waiting and checking wether or not he improves his behaviour when he returns. – Elisson • T • C • 18:03, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I think SndrAndrss might be at work again using an anon. IP address. Take a look at Special:Contributions/88.88.47.236. The areas of interest (biathlon, flags, FIFA referrees, etc.) looks exactly like the pages he/she was working on before the block, and the first edit under this address was on March 6. Andrwsc 00:12, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for notifying me. I've blocked the IP and reset SndrAndrss block. – Elisson • T • C • 00:26, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar for your work with SndrAndrss

The Original Barnstar
This is for your work in an effort to get User:SndrAndrss permanently blocked from Wikipedia for his disruptive edits, refusal to listen to others, and constant editing without explanation (i.e., not using the edit summary). As a token of gratitude, especially with your assitance on the Template:Nordic skiing World Championships issue, I award you this barnstar. Chris 23:23, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
I wouldn't say I am happy to have received this as I in a way feel kind of sorry for SndrAndrss, but it has been a hard time working with/against him so this barnstar cheered me up a little at least! Thanks! – Elisson • T • C • 21:37, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I was not happy about what happened to him either, but he brought it on himself. This was just trying to get this user to see the light in order to help Wikipedia grow. Chris 15:04, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Please see this diff. ([2]). Thanks! --Dweller 17:10, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

And I've managed to expand the amateur section a touch as well... The Rambling Man 17:40, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

More SndrAndrss...

Hi Johan, I have seen that SndrAndrss is quite active again lately, mostly making edits from anon. IPs. I have blocked several of them (see Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of SndrAndrss), and even got a response from him (see User talk:88.88.47.113). Note that I did not revert his edits — these ones were actually useful — but I am trying to quickly block him as soon as I see his activity. Howeover, yesterday he also created a couple of dozen new articles and categories with a new account (see Special:Contributions/SndrAndrss11), and again, they are probably useful additions. Should we be speedy deleting them as per WP:CSD#G5, or leave them alone? I think deleting them would maybe send him a message, but deleting useful content to make a point doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I guess that's our dilemma with SndrAndrss — many edits are useful contributions, but there is enough disruptive behaviour to justify the community ban. Andrwsc 17:15, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

That was my main concern regarding his community ban, that he actually have useful contributions. I have sought help in the admin IRC channel and was adviced to block the 88.88.0.0/16 IP range for a week, which should prevent him from editing at all. This blocks a total of 65 536 IPs, so it is not something we should do on regular basis. I was also adviced to send an email to the abuse department of his ISP which I now have done. I hope this will solve the problem... Regarding his contributions as a banned user, I'm not sure how to do. I would probably suggest not doing anything unless the problem gets worse. – Elisson • T • C • 19:39, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
He's also started (resumed?) using another IP address (see Special:Contributions/159.171.120.4), which has been used on articles in SndrAndrss' areas of interest since 31 August 2005, and which is also registered to a (different) Norwegian ISP. I've already blocked that single address for a month. Andrwsc 19:51, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
It seems that that IP range is registered to a Norwegian municipality (Arendal), and I would guess that SndrAndrss edits with that IP either from a school or a library. If it is only that single IP, then there's no big problem I guess, but I'll keep an eye open for that IP range. – Elisson • T • C • 20:10, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Can you check out this discussion on no. http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brukerdiskusjon:Cnyborg#Blokkering (I believe you understand norwegian). The SndrAndrss situation seems to have made some problems for a user which has nothing to do with him. 85.164.250.245 00:03, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Takk for svar hos Cnyborg. Finnrind 00:47, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

After email correspondence with the ISP (Telenor), they informed me today that the account of SndrAndrss has been closed (I did not propose that, they did it on their own initiative). I've unblocked the IP range and hopefully we will not have to deal with SndrAndrss again. – Elisson • T • C • 13:21, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi there! If I have understood it correctly you are an admin on wikipedia, right? Well I don't know of any other admins so I come to you. I just want to bring to your (or any admins) attention about User:Burgz33. He continues to throw around personal attack at various users on the Jordin Tootoo talk page, after being warned several times. I decided to check out his user page and talk page and noticed that he deleted everything that is being said to him on his talk page. He ignore warnings about unfree images and as far as I know, deleting content on talk pages are not allowed. --Krm500 23:37, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I'm an admin. I am sorry I haven't answered this earlier but I have been sort of busy the last few days. I see the problem has already been solved, but if you run into any further problems, feel free to leave a message here again, or report it to the incident noticeboard where such things as the above should be posted. – Elisson • T • C • 14:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey thanks for that, you can delete the image I uploaded since you uploaded it at commons already. And can you do that at Template:International basketball too and upload the image there and replace the one found at commons? Thanks again. --Howard the Duck 16:41, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Your deletion of Varvari

Why have you deleted this firm from the article? They have been active since 1987, supporting their team loyally, but because of the league's lesser notability, the only way they reached global media was by opposing the gay right activist to be a guest in a nationwide broadcasted show -the one article I used as a reference. That is one sole incident, and does not classify the firm as a "violent ultras group", as you called it. After all, violence is one of the aspects of football culture, whether we like it or not. But if Varvari are excluded from the article for being "too violent", take a look at some of the actions of the other firms represented in the article. For more information, refer to the article Varvari, or ask me if you want to know more. Cheers. Sideshow Bob 18:55, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Ehm, I guess you misunderstand what a football/hooligan firm is. A firm is not a supporter group, or an ultras group, it is a group of people that organise themselves for one reason, to fight with other firms, generally not on the stadium but rather somewhere else. Varvari is in all aspects an ultras/supporter group, and not a football firm. – Elisson • T • C • 19:53, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
If you say so, although there is no notable difference between the two. According to your standards, only British firms are football firms, because Polish and Swedish groups in the article don't differ from other Ultras groups... Sideshow Bob 20:51, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure why the Swedish (and Polish) firms listed don't differ from ultras groups? – Elisson • T • C • 21:36, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Football in Sweden template

Concerning my edit here that you reverted, I did it because, at least on my computer, it doesn't look centered as it was and as it is now. It is aligned to the left. Maybe it looks centered in your computer, I don't know. But that the reason I did it. Cheers and keep up with the good work--Serte Talk · Contrib ] 21:13, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Strange. I suspected that you edited it because the template looked strange in some way on your system, but I tried around with a few different browsers and didn't see anything wrong. The ! (header row markup) before that line should automatically center the text. – Elisson • T • C • 21:33, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, seeing you are interested in football this is an invitation to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. I think clearer guidelines are needed to avoid repeated inappropriate nominations for deletion and time consuming discussions. Cheers! StephP 20:09, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Helsingborgs IF supporter culture

The preceding unsigned comment was added by Viktor Hellström (talkcontribs).

I prefer if we speak English here at the English Wikipedia, even though we are both Swedes, since other people might be interrested in knowing what we speak of. On to your recent additions. I removed it all since if I where to trim and fix and wikify it, there wouldn't be much left. Almost everything you added were either unencyclopedic material or pieces of information that would need a citation, and since you say there are no sources for it, we can't have it on Wikipedia. I suggest you read the Wikipedia policies on no original research, verifiability neutral point of view and the guideline on reliable sources.
Wikipedia welcomes all contributions as long as they follow policies and guidelines, but yours did not and that was why I removed them. Do not see it as some kind of personal thing, and do not think it was me personally that did not like the contribution, I only did what a majority of users have agreed to do. If I would give you a suggestion, it would be to improve the history section of the article instead. There is absolutely nothing said about the history of the club before 2005, which is a much more urgent problem to fix. I would be glad if you could help out there instead. Best regards – Elisson • T • C • 16:50, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Answer: Point taken about the policies and guidelines regarding original research, verifiability and neutral point of view. I understand now that my text wasn't written according to the terms of agreement of Wikipedia, why I simply will have to post it somewhere else. Feels a bit sad in this case though, as I'm convinced that the supporter culture section was beneficial to the article. Do you think that it'd be better if I hosted the text somewhere else and posted an external link to it here at Wikipedia? - Viktor Hellström —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Viktor Hellström (talkcontribs).

Linking to a minor website, such as your personal website, a blog, or similar, or publishing material on another website only to link it from Wikipedia is not encouraged either, so I don't think that would be a good idea, sorry. The best would be to find sources for the most important facts. If the pieces of info are important enough to be included in Wikipedia, then there must surely be a reliable source of some kind, somewhere. In a newspaper, in a book about HIF or on the official website. – Elisson • T • C • 22:12, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Football world popularity.png

Hello Johan.
¿Do you have the data table you use in this image?, because I need some information por the Football (soccer) article in spanish wikipedia. Regards, Ffahm (disc.) 20:26, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi! The data on the number of players is from this FIFA survey linked from the image description, and the population data was taken mainly from one website I can't remember at the moment, but any reliable source could be used, such as this list. I then calculated the players/1000 inhabitants myself. I hope that helps. – Elisson • T • C • 21:21, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your answer. What I was talking about was the table you use with the number of players and the population together (maybe an Excel file). I need it for saving some time, so I don't have to make a full table of the 200 FIFA members with their population. ;). Ffahm (disc.) 21:35, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't think I ever saved the file I used when compiling the data. – Elisson • T • C • 21:57, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Sweden national under-21 football team

Hi, I just want to inform you that the article about Sweden national under-21 football team has been created by user Beansformickey. In it's current state, it only contains the current squad that isn't correctly updated and I wonder if it should be kept as it is. Tooga 18:33, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Vfb stuttgart.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Vfb stuttgart.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 00:39, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
