December 2022
[edit]Hi, welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed some of the edits you've made today. Many of your changes are good, but in a few places you have made changes that are not in accordance with our Manual of Style. In particular, I recommend that you review these guidelines:
- MOS:OVERLINK - generally you should not link names of well-known countries, cities and other geographic features.
- MOS:SECTIONCAPS - section titles should be in sentence case, not title case.
- MOS:DASH - it is almost always incorrect to replace an en dash or em dash with a hyphen.
Thanks, and happy editing! CodeTalker (talk) 02:43, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for the corrections, I'm still learning (a lot) ahah. I'll try to no repeat the mistakes.
- Have a good day! JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 03:00, 31 December 2022 (UTC)

Transfermarkt
[edit]Since much of its content is user-edited, Transfermarkt is not considered a reliable source. Please do not cite the website in articles. Thank you. Sir Sputnik (talk) 16:32, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oh sorry, I had no idea, will refrain from doing that from now on. Thank you JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 21:05, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
Another wrong addition (similar reason, i saw it in Carraça and Chiquinho (footballer, born 1995) so i imagine there are many more), ZEROZERO.PT is also user-generated so please do not add it again (especially not adding it AND removing the reliable SOCCERWAY.COM like you did in Carraça).
Attentively --RevampedEditor (talk) 17:59, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- Ok. Had no idea Zerozero was user-generated, it is normally very reliable in portuguese football. But rules are rules, i will use soccerway from now on! Apologize for the mistake, wasn't on purpose, thanks for letting me know so i can improve.
- And I don't really care what you imagine, if there is a mistake point it out, what goes on in your imagination isn't really relevant. JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 20:17, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
I see. I did not use the verb "imagine" to offend you, i apologise if you felt offended. --RevampedEditor (talk) 21:07, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- No problem, sorry if my response was a bit aggressive, I'm still learning how to do this and it's a bit overwhelming sometimes. I probably made a ton of mistakes and I'm trying to fix them + avoid repeating them. Thank you for warning me. Have a good day! JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 21:19, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
Edit summaries
[edit]You are quite correct in your message. I often bite newcomers, you are not supposed to do that. Newcomers should be welcome and helped, not chased away. I have been here for 17 years, not having a bit of fun for the last 10 or so; not saying that is an excuse, it is not!
I offer my sincere apologies, but of course if you don't want to accept it i will totally understand! Have a great day as well. 2001:8A0:7643:2400:34DC:CDEF:B594:9B25 (talk) 00:49, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
- No problem at all! Apology accepted, but please don't refrain from pointing out mistakes, it's the best way to learn and improve. Happy editing! JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 03:25, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the Zach Muscat article, and I couldn't find one either. If you have a reliable source please let me know and we can change the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 08:38, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hey there, sorry, I didn't post the source because I didn't know where to put it in the page. I used BeSoccer - https://www.besoccer.com/player/career-path/z-muscat-191769. Thanks for letting me know! JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 16:05, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
Dear JoaoSPinto18, thank you for your recent editions regarding Petro Dolhov, but I should to correct you about your this https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Petro_Dolhov&diff=prev&oldid=1173306074 action with the note as "misspelled", that was mistaken. Probably you not noted, that this player has a profile at the official Ukrainian Premier League website (https://www.upl.ua/en/people/view/65228 as "Dolhov"). Maybe you was deceived by the Russian transliteration of this surname (Dolgov), but this footballer is a Ukrainian-born and if you can find his surname spelled not as Dolhov (as at the soccerway, for example), it's only by mistake and a Russian spelling tradition, that is/was more widespread. With the best regards and appreciation of you great contributions in the our wiki, Noel baran (talk) 04:36, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for correcting me and letting me know, transliteration is always a bit confusing for me, I will be more careful from now on! Best regards JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 23:52, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your openness and cooperation! Noel baran (talk) 11:34, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hello there!
Not a big deal (and not a mistake or disruptive editing by any means), but 99,999999999999999% of the times you edit a box, it goes from this state (Daniel Podence as an example https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Daniel_Podence&action=edit&oldid=1173865258&editintro=Template:BLP_editintro) to this (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Daniel_Podence&diff=next&oldid=1173865258). I think it has to do with editing through a mobile phone, that is why it scrambles (in my view of course, only an opinion in aesthetics) the infobox.
Happy editing, sorry for any inconvenience 2001:8A0:7643:2400:8C5E:B983:A6A:93A8 (talk) 22:15, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- That's weird because I use a PC and not a mobile phone, I don't know why it happens... JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 22:18, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- Do not worry, like i said previously. Continue the very good work, happy week! 2001:8A0:7643:2400:8C5E:B983:A6A:93A8 (talk) 22:23, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for September 7
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mohamed Farès, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Defender. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Player position categories
[edit]Hello there,
first of all, i apologise for reverting you so many times in this topic, either with my account or through an IP. I just don't see the sense of having no sub-categories for midfielders or forwards, but having them for defenders (fullbacks, centre-backs), but i'll stop from now on. Last week i started a discussion here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Player_position_categories), but only one user participated, and they supported your approach, so that's enough for me.
However, in cases like Juan Bernat, if you reinstate the full-back category (nevermind, i'll do it myself now), please don't remove the "wingers" one, he played like that in his first two/three seasons as a senior.
Abraços, resto de boa semana! RevampedEditor (talk) 18:58, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hey, thank you for this message, this topic always confused me. No need to apologize, I know opinions vary a lot in this subject.
- I think sub-categories for defenders are important because in modern football centre-back and full-back are completely different positions (a full-back is more of a midfielder than a defender nowadays in my opinion).
- Sorry about Bernat, I thought since he hasn't played as a winger for so long it should be removed, but now I understand it's about the player's whole career and not just now.
- I will try to participate in the discussion if I'm not too late! Have a good day! JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 22:27, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not add or change content, as you did at Kieran Trippier, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:58, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- You are right I apologize. I did find a website stating is mother was of Jamaican ancestry but digging a little deeper I'm not sure it's that reliable. But he is a full-back, so I don't think there is any need to revert that category edit. Thank you! JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 00:23, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Grammar errors
[edit]Please stop writing "On January" or "On December" when the date doesn't have a day. "On" just applies for a complete date, i.e., 19 December 2023 or 19 December. In these cenarios where you're citing a date without a day, use "In" (i.e., "In December" or "In September"). I've fixed your latest additions on John Mercado. Thank you. BRDude70 (talk) 17:33, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, you are totally right. English is not my first language so sometimes I forget those details. I also usually write complete dates so it's easy to get mixed up.
- Thanks for letting me know! JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 00:45, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
Player categories
[edit]Please do not remove club categories for players who spent time as a youth, like you did at Sherwin Seedorf - they are completely valid categories and should remain. GiantSnowman 11:44, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hello. I don't know if there is any guideline to follow in regard to that, and if there is I'll start doing it like you say, but for me that makes no sense. Before deleting said categories I looked at some of the biggest footballers pages and they don't follow that "rule":
- Cristiano Ronaldo was never a C.D. Nacional player, he just played for their youth academy as a child. The same for Lionel Messi and Newell's Old Boys. So they are not included in those categories.
- To me, personally, a player only becomes an official player for a club once it starts representing them as a professional. There are thousands of non-league footballers who spent time in, for example, Arsenal's academy, and that does not make them an Arsenal player. JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 19:05, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at Levi Colwill, you may be blocked from editing. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:18, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- What are you talking about? It literally is written on the page that he can also play as a full-back. More watching football, less Wikipedia maybe? JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 18:20, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- It's "literally" also written that he can play wing-back, why not include that too? We only need to mention the player's primary position in the infobox.
- "More watching football, less Wikipedia maybe?": How is that comment supposed to be helpful? Can one not watch an adequate quantity of football *and* make regular contributions to Wikipedia? Content is supposed to be based on what reliable sources say, not on our own experience of watching Match of the Day. Mattythewhite (talk) 19:27, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- Since this season he has been playing regularly at left-back, it is important to refer that in the infobox imo, if he stops playing there we should remove it. Anyway, the source stating my point is already in the page JoaoSPinto18 (talk) 19:32, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced or poorly sourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at Daniel Ballard. GiantSnowman 19:44, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up Führer. Thank God you two exist and focus a large part of your energy on me and my edits. When your fantasies eventually come true and you block me, see what happens to most of the Portuguese football pages, since for the past year or so I've almost single-handedly taken care of hundreds/thousands of them.
