DYK for Garth tsunami
On 21 March 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Garth tsunami, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that mass graves in the Orkney and Shetland islands of Scotland might contain bodies from a tsunami 5,500 years ago? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Garth tsunami. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Garth tsunami), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Problems
- Some development will be slower than planned. This is because of the current pandemic. You can see the new deployment guidelines. This is to avoid risks when some persons could be unavailable.
- There was a problem when adding interwiki links. The tool you use to add interwiki links could suggest the wrong project to link to. This has now been fixed. [1][2]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 24 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 25 March. It will be on all wikis from 26 March (calendar).
Future changes
- There is a project to make editing easier for newcomers. The developers are trying to understand what initiatives different Wikipedias have to welcome newcomers. They also want to know which templates are often used for maintenance activities. You can help this project by checking if your wiki's pages are listed on Wikidata.

A Very Important Mouse
- https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/2020/03/mouse-found-atop-volcano-highest-altitude-mammal/ SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:57, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
- @SandyGeorgia: Huh. Thanks for that. What a funny coincidence, that the highest mouse is on a mountain that features one of the highest cemeteries. I was vaguely reminded of my university days when I did occasionally work with laboratory mice ... although I took care to make sure I didn't hold them too long. Catching them was always the hard bit. I figure that if the preprint article is formally published this year, a mention will go into Llullaillaco on Christmas (when I do my yearly mass-update of articles). TFA
Thank you today for Ubinas, "about a volcano in Peru, which has had historical eruptions and is currently considered to be the most active volcano there (not sure if it has been supplanted by Sabancaya at any point). Apparently before 2006-2007 the region was ill-prepared for eruptions at Ubinas and the issues were remedied in a very short time frame. It is close to Huaynaputina and geologically related to it as well; these two volcanoes have had large historical eruptions, including Huaynaputina's 1600 eruption that is the largest in South America during historical time."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:27, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
Question about volcanoes
Are Cordón del Azufre and Lastarria part of the Altiplano–Puna volcanic complex?ZFT (talk) 06:24, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- @ZFT:Depends on the source. Stringently speaking Altiplano–Puna volcanic complex usually only applies to calderas just north or around the Tropic of Capricorn, but the concept is often applied more broadly to large caldera systems in the south-central Central Volcanic Zone and/or to stratovolcanoes in the region of the calderas (e.g Uturuncu). In the case of these two volcanoes there is the additional complication of the Lazufre magmatic system that appears to underlie both of them and which is more similar to a calderic magmatic system than to stratovolcanoes. Your keep argument seems floored, article still fails GNG, I still don't see significant sources. And player still fails NFooty! Govvy (talk) 10:46, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Govvy: Originally that was the case, but Paul 012 has provided some sources that were not really rebutted except by a "fails GNG" non-statement. Failing NFOOTY does not override GNG-based keep arguments, as noted on WP:N notability is established by meeting GNG OR a subject-specific guideline. Perhaps "no consensus" is a better conclusion but I don't see how one could call it a "delete" consensus when a group of sources presented in the discussion were not rebutted at all. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 11:14, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, I wasn't overly concerned, but the feeling of WP:LOCAL on those sources... Not much in the way of English sources. I felt the article would be okay on our Thailand version of wikipedia but not the English one. Govvy (talk) 11:35, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
- Sounds to me like this should have been closed as "No consensus". Imma ping the other participants @GiantSnowman, Johnpacklambert, Paul 012, Nannochloropsis, Pharaoh of the Wizards, Mightytotems, and BlameRuiner: Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 11:39, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
It should have been 'no consensus' leaning to 'delete' IMHO. GiantSnowman 12:19, 28 March 2020 (UTC)- Actually, upon further review of the sources included by Paul012, GNG is likely met, so the close as 'keep' was right. GiantSnowman 14:52, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
- Talk page watcher: WP:LOCAL does not say that some articles are only suited for certain language encyclopedias. That's a misconception. Notability is irrespective of language or location. What WP:LOCAL does say is that small local topics or places should be part of the parent article (not the linguistically related parent language wiki). Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mind because of its impact on WP:systemic bias. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 16:14, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

Sandbox
Hi Jo-Jo Eumerus, there was an AfD taking place for Omar Alaa Mubarak that I wasn’t aware of. I don’t think the deletion discussion consensus was accurate since participating editors were basing their opinion on English sources while there was Arabic news articles covering him as the main subject (not through a father or grandfather). Slow websites for citoid
I forgot to get back to you about that citoid problem. I asked one of the devs to take a look, and she said that cambridge.org was working fine for her. Is it still slow for you? (Please ping me; my watchlist is hopeless.) Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:42, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Whatamidoing (WMF): I haven't noticed that issue anymore (the only issue remaining with Cambridge is that it doesn't see year dates). The main issue I currently have on Wikimedia is this one, which is intermittent but quite irritating. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:08, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
- It's amazing that we don't see more complaints about slow connections, given the changes in traffic patterns (e.g., away cloud-based slideware in large offices to streaming video in residential areas). Or maybe people don't complain, because they notice that it affects all sites.
- Does that problem go away if you turn off all syntax highlighting? Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:11, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Whatamidoing (WMF):It can't be turned off on the edit screen once the bug starts. It's an intermittent issue which crops out on one page, disappears there after a while, then months later reappears on another. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 19:13, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- And it disappears in mw:safemode, so the problem is in a user script/gadget somewhere, but which one(s)? When the problem appears, are you able to edit other pages? I think if the problem appears on page #1, and you turn off syntax highlighting in page #2, and then go back to page #1, it should still be turned off. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:20, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Whatamidoing (WMF):Other pages, yes. I can't test which scripts (although I did remove some scripts from my common.js without success) as the bug is not currently active. But as I noted before, it has done this disappearing act (on Laguna del Maule (volcano)) on other articles. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 20:36, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Whatamidoing (WMF):It happened again, on Invisible Man. Syntax highlighter was off, I can edit other pages. Note also that when I use tabbing to edit it appears to edit, but when you save it saves nothing. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 12:25, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
- If it is a script in User:Jo-Jo Eumerus/common.js that's causing the problem it must be User:Lingzhi/reviewsourcecheck.js as removing that fixes the issue. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 12:32, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Please reopen this discussion, or, better yet, simply restore the article. "Alice Hyatt" is the protagonist of Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, a seminal Martin Scorsese film with major award recognition, as well as a long-running TV series. Ellen Burstyn won BAFTA and Academy Awards for her portrayal of the character; Linda Lavin was nominated for or won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for playing the TV version. To say that critical commentary on the character could not be found defies even the slightest credibility -- especially since cursory GBooks and GScholar searches turn up substantive commentary on the very first pages of results. I would like to add a page for Tribe Capital and I saw that it was previously deleted. It was advised that I reach out to you about the deleted page.
I'm not sure the contents of the previous article, but I expect to create a high quality, well-cited article for Tribe.
Please let me know how best to proceed. This is the first time I would be dealing with a previously deleted page, so your advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!

- Greetings, Inkforest. Based on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tribe Capital it seems like the fairly strict requirements of WP:NCORP were not met. In my opinion, the first step would be to make sure that you have multiple reliable sources which meet both the WP:ORGDEPTH and WP:ORGIND criteria. If you can find several such sources, the next step would be to write a draft at Draft:Tribe Capital with them and send it to WP:AFC. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 14:31, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Shadowed images
Re [8], thanks for all the work you do there! I was wondering if there's a way to semi-automate the unshadowing of files that end up in that category, perhaps automatically appending something like "(non-free)" to the filename here? I'd appreciate your thoughts here, perhaps I can code something up that might be useful. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 12:35, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Mike Peel: I don't think that would be ideal - while non-free files shadowing Commons files is very common, free files doing the same is too, and sometimes deleting one or both files is the correct move.
Also, I think you might want to reconsider that bot unblock. Judging by the links Iridescent posted in the AN thread it seems like this isn't a one-off problem and having a more durable solution is needed. In my experience "issue resolved" unblocks in such situations tend to leave more problems in the future as the problem is not actually resolved. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 16:00, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- OK, it's just an offer in case you spot any patterns that can be automated to ease the load. The shadowing seems to be the core issue here, not the bot's edits, so it would be good to improve enwp's handing of that if we can. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 16:05, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Well, the problem edits by the bot are the main issue discussed there - without them shadowed files would be rote maintenance. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 18:40, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Perhaps Wikipedia_talk:Non-free_content#Requiring_non-free_content_to_indicate_that_in_their_filenames can solve the problem more widely? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:53, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Salt request
Hi Jo-Jo, you recently deleted Tan Yan Zhang per an AfD. Since the article has now been deleted five times, would you consider salting it? Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 01:12, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
- Greetings, L235. Given that all these deletions were six years ago in one cluster, I don't think that the topic necessarily has an issue that requires salting. Perhaps a second opinion at WP:RFPP is warranted. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:52, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Jo-Jo, I see where you're coming from. I was requesting because I had a hunch that this was part of a significant sockfarm that is not currently active but demonstrated a persistence over time, but with stale accounts I can't CU them and I don't have time to write up a behavioral report for accounts that haven't edited recently. I understand "someone suspects socking" isn't a reason to salt in PP, but since it has been repeatedly recreated I thought I'd ask at RFPP as well. Recent changes
- You can now use the
articletopic
search word on all Wikipedias. It searches articles by topic. [9] - You can see wiki tools in the new Tools Gallery. [10]
- You can see edits from the Wikimedia Cloud Services in a new dashboard.
- When you use filters on a history page you sometimes don't see any edits. There is a text explaining this now. Before it was just empty. [11]
- There is a new Wikimedia Technical Blog. [12]
Problems
- There was a problem with the Wikidata database last week. Some wikis went down for twenty minutes. Wikidata and other projects showed error messages. Interwiki links were not shown, some tools did not work and other problems. Some of this was fixed quickly. The developers are working on fixing the rest. [13][14][15]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from April 14. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from April 15. It will be on all wikis from April 16 (calendar).
Future changes
- Some graphs have not worked on mobile. This will soon be fixed. [16]
- The article tab on talk pages of redirects links to the target of the redirect. It could link to the redirect page itself instead. You can leave feedback on this.
- For pages using syntax highlighting, the use of the deprecated
<source>
tag, as well as the use of the deprecatedenclose
parameter, will add tracking categories.

Just for ask
I want to know that as recently you have protected one of the article Sandeep Maheshwari. As you know that SilkTork was a creater of the article and I am partner of him. But it was totally COI article. So I feel that I can create article better than him can I re create the same article as you are administrator of it? This is just for ask. If no I don't have any problem. Kashish pall (talk) 06:51, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Um, Kashish pall, I think I am not sure what you are asking for. Given how frequently this article has been deleted over the years, I am not sure that I would be the one to unprotect it. Also courtesy ping to SilkTork. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:21, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- There are not many times when I am unequivocal, but given the circumstances, and in particular that I asked Kashish pall to stop editing the article draft as we were working on it because Kashish pall is well meaning and enthusiastic, but lacks the appropriate skills and knowledge and is a very slow learner, my response is an absolute no. Kashish pall - this issue is closed now, and it is time for you to move on. Sandeep Maheshwari has borderline notability for en.wiki. What notability he has is very dubious, and is obscured by promotional aspects, and the sheer number of poor quality and self-published sources that mention him. Given the article history here on Wikipedia, any article written about him has to be extra vigilant in research, and needs to use impeccable sources, in order to overcome existing concerns. At the moment there are no such sources. There is the possibility that at some point in the future several impeccable sources will write about him in sufficient depth and with appropriate independent research for an article to be created. But until such a moment, no new article can be created. It is time for you to walk away from this, and do something else. SilkTork (talk) 11:18, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

File mover
I now have 'file mover' right, and have dealt with most of the images that were in Category:Wikipedia files that shadow a file on Wikimedia Commons by renaming them. LMK if I can assist further; or perhaps you'd like to get that right for yourself? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:46, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- Greetings, Pigsonthewing. As it happens to be, being an admin means I can - and usually - do the filemoves myself. Incidentally, I don't think that one should always move the files in that category - sometimes deleting one or both of them is the correct solution instead (although it takes longer when you need to wait for a deletion discussion to complete). Global watchlist - Update 6
Updates associated with DannyS712's Global watchlist script:
- Future development
- I have requested a grant to fund conversion of this script into an extension, as well as further development. Please see m:Grants:Project/DannyS712/Create a global watchlist extension.
- If anyone is interested in reviewing the code and making suggestions regarding coding style, techniques, or something else, please let me know. See phab:T234507 for more.
- Recent additions
- The results for each site, as well as the list of sites without changes, can be collapsed; the list of sites without changes starts collapsed.
- When the username associated with an edit has been hidden (either via revision deletion or suppression) this is now properly shown in the output, rather than showing "undefined".
- Links to view changes open in new tabs.
- When marking a site (or all sites) as seen, only changes made prior to the watchlist loading will be marked as seen, so that any changes since then are not missed.
- There is now a help link in the upper right hand corner that links to m:User:DannyS712/Global watchlist, though it doesn't have the normal help icon.
- Translations
- Many thanks to those that have contributed translations for the script's messages. Translation takes place at m:User:DannyS712/Global watchlist/Translate, and help is appreciated.

Filled in missing information about myself.
Linda A. Malcor (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) I went to edit my Wikipedia page with information about my career from the last 16 years and found that it had been deleted 22 August 2019. Is there a way for me to make the additions and get the page reinstated?
Cheers,
Linda A. MalcorShashtah (talk) 09:27, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
- Greetings, Shashtah. The article was deleted as a consequence of the discussion here. I don't think there is much of a chance of it being restored unless reliable sources that are independent from you begin to cover you in detail. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:31, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Deletion of Northumbria Helicopters
Hi, I notice that you have deleted this page which was published for many years on Wikipedia. Could you please advise why you came to this decision for a training organisation serving the North East of England?
Thank you,

- No, the photos were deleted because they had copyright issues. That's a different problem from the article. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:08, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
