Erciyes

Jo-Jo, I'm sorry it took me so long. I've been kind of busy. I wanted to ask you about a few things:

1) In the second-to-last paragraph in Erciyes#Local is the following sentence:

  • Both domes are formed by rhyodacite and accompanied by pyroclastic deposits.

Shouldn't the first part read:

  • Both domes are formed of rhyodacite...?

2) The third paragraph in Erciyes#Petrology is:

  • The dacites taken from the summit display a noticeable variability in their composition and texture, and their temperatures varied between 734–989 °C (1,353–1,812 °F).

I know "their temperatures" refers to the temperature of the rocks at the time they were formed, but because the first half of this sentence is about recently-found rocks and is in present tense, the switch to past tense in the second half of the sentence sounds a little odd. Isn't the temperature of the rocks at the time of formation related to the variability in composition and texture? If this is true, then the connection/relationship could be shown in the construction of the sentence. You could attempt to do that, or explain the relationship to me and I would attempt the re-wording. If you don't want to do that, you could just change the last part of the sentence to:

  • ...with their temperatures at formation varying between 734–989 °C (1,353–1,812 °F).

That way, you avoid using a past tense verb ("varied") and the switch in mid-sentence from present to past tense.

3) In the middle of the first paragraph in Erciyes#Glaciation is the following sentence:

  • A late Holocene glacial advance extended down to 3,850 metres (12,630 ft);[3] dating of these moraines has yielded ages of 1,200 ± 300 years ago.

Shouldn't the last phrase be 1,200 ± 300 million years ago or 1,200 ± 300 thousand years ago? I thought 1,200 years ago didn't seem very long ago.

Well, that's all.  – Corinne (talk) 04:12, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Greetings back then, Corinne. Made the first two changes, but #3 is right as some glacial advances took place during that time. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:31, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Narrative Capital

Dear Jo-Jo Eumerus: You deleted a page called Narrative Capital but since the lack of third party references the company has been mentioned numerous times for an upcoming project on a Super Bowl star as well as the release of the film Lion.

Eiko Shimamiya

Hello. I noticed that you deleted this article following an AFD discussion. However, from what I understand, she meets a number of criteria listed in WP:NMUSIC: #2 (while it was mentioned in the AfD that her highest charting single was at #39, it was still on the Oricon chart, the de-facto main music chart of Japan; the same can be said of her other singles and albums), #5 (she released three albums on a major label, the label that today is known as NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan), and #10 (she performed theme songs for the Higurashi When They Cry franchise). In addition, this page has a number of interviews with her; it appears that this website is a reliable source. I was unable to participate in the AfD discussion as I had only learned of the discussion today. But in any case, would it be fine for you if I take the (now-deleted) article to deletion review? I feel like the arguments I'm raising here weren't taken up during the discussion. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 07:42, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Greetings, Narutolovehinata5. I am not familiar enough with that stuff to know whether it'd merit restoration; I'd like to know what @Eggishorn, John Pack Lambert, Dissident93, and CAPTAIN RAJU: (the !voters of the AfD have to say about this. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:13, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
@Johnpacklambert: Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:14, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
I'm unfamiliar with the reliability of Japanese music sources (unless they relate to video game/anime composers), so it's possible that those interviews could count as one (not all interviews do, it depends more on the website). But even still, how much importance do we give to the fact that she got a certain number on Oricon, over something like a well written article about her? ~ Dissident93 (talk) 16:21, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
As the nominator, I should chime in. I'm not sure at this point why I stumbled on Eiko Shimamiya, but when I did, I noticed that the articles about her and her music had the appearance of a WP:WALLEDGARDEN. All her articles seemed to connect to each other only, and there were few to no connections from outside similar articles.
I raised this concern on Wikiproject Japan and got no response. I also contacted two members of the Wikiproject Japan Music Task Force and got a negative reply from @Dissident93: (and thank you for that) and no reply from the other.
On looking further into the sources given for Eiko, I saw the given sources were dodgy, at best. As I said in the AfD nomination: Sourced to a music school's webpage where she is apparently a teacher, a blog, her Twitter, the webpage of her production group, and Anime News Network. WP:BEFORE turns up other blogs, music lyrics and download sites, and social media.
When I interpret SNG's for guidance in AfD discussions, I am aware that they indicate some-one "...may be notable..." and still expect to see at least some RS coverage. Especially considering that she did reach a music chart, I was expecting that there would be some independent coverage, coverage I did not see in my searches.
Turning to @Narutolovehinata5:'s points, I had seen the chart position and the albums, but no reviews or profiles or any other coverage that usually accompanies a notable musician. I had not seen the interview page and I'm not going to comment on it. I would not oppose DRV if an admin thinks that those are enough to reconsider them.
I will also include the caveat that, despite my effort to comply with WP:BEFORE, I am hampered by not being able to effectively do anything more than the most basic search using Japanese characters. I should also note that, having nominated the artist, I have PROD'ed the basically-unsourced song and single articles. User:Narutolovehinata5 may be able to create a good article for the artist and her music out of the current walled garden, complete with navigation template, that seems to lead nowhere. D.Gray-man image review

Thanks for the review. I did all the changes you told me. However, I'm afraid Hoshino's image is clashing with the cosplayers. Do you think it would be better if I moved Hoshino back to the production section and change the caption to something like "Manga author Katsura Hoshino based several concepts of D.Gray-man from her one-shot Zone. What do you think? Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 21:34, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello,

I'd like to submit to you a revised copy for a page you flagged for removal.

Can you please take a look - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:HaroldJohnson21/sandbox?

Thank you HaroldJohnson21 (talk) 14:45, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

@HaroldJohnson21: I'm sorry, but that's far too much material without sources. I also think that these sources are merely driveby mentions and don't make the topic notable. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:14, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Lake Manly, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Silver Lake. Jgc searchlight (talk) 16:30, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

@Jgc searchlight: Most of these sources either just mention him in passing or do not look like reliable sources to me, so they probably don't justify restoring the page. @DGG, Tokyogirl79, and K.e.coffman:? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:43, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Seriously, six independently-verifiable citations in scholary publications, four newspaper articles in English, and a review by the New Testament professor at Southeastern Seminary don't "look like reliable sources"? What else could I provide? Jgc searchlight (talk) 17:09, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Many of these citations are too short to justify notability. I've also asked the users who !voted in favour of deletion to assess these sources. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:45, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
I agree with what Jo-Jo Eumerus said above. It's necessary to actually read the references, not just list them. The first group are mere mentions, where the author of the article includes his translation of the Book of Psalms, among others. And I see that the author of those articles seems to be the only person who quotes it. They are not independent. One review is insufficient. Thenewspaper articles are local, and therefore not sufficient discriminating. The subsequent group just proves the existence of his translation of Psalms. DGG ( talk ) 19:44, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

I was going to G12 the guardian one (which is basically the list and nothing else) and stub the other two (as they have more content than just the list) but I will hold off if you are dealing with it. Only in death does duty end (talk) 16:03, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

The fact was ... that Licancabur volcano (pictured) was venerated by the Atacamenos? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Licancabur. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Licancabur), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Hi Jo-Jo Eumerus. Could you please explain why these files should be moved to Commons? I reviewed your request, but they seem to serve a local-only purpose. Regards, FASTILY 20:41, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Greetings, @Fastily:. So that people on other projects can use them if they so like. Philosophically, I am of the opinion that all Commons suitable files should be on Commons. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:43, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
I agree that all Commons-suitable files belong on Commons, but is it really a good idea to move these? They clearly serve a purpose specific to enwp, deterring local uploaders from using undescriptive filenames. Regards, FASTILY 21:02, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
I think it is. Being on Commons does not harm the purpose of deterring enwiki users from bad uploads. Maybe the folks at Commons will start using them as well, too. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 21:05, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi Jo-Jo, I came across a set of nice publications about Lauca, so I decided to expand the article slightly and added an infobox and navbox. I rearranged the references, I don't know if you like it like this, but it separates the refs and bibliography where it's possible to have different pages from each pub. Also corrected the name of one author to Wörner (the Spanish have problems with German umlauts, but this appears his correct surname). Your production of GAs requires some assistance imho and happy to do it. When we can build a nice GA for a Colombian volcano together, give me a shout. Keep up the good work! PS: I saw you are Swiss, are you a geologist yourself? Swiss geologists are the best in the world... Cheers, Tisquesusa (talk) 19:32, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

Greetings, @Tisquesusa: You may be surprised, but I am not a geologist at all (but yes, Swiss); biology student interested in volcanology. I'll admit that Colombian volcanoes aren't really my interest (Chimborazo has too many sources, although Atacazo and Antisana are on my long term work list), but maybe later. Regarding Lauca (volcano), the accessdate parameters don't seem to work, though. PS: Your GA reviews for La Reforma (caldera) and Ciomadul need completion. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:04, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
Ha, we share opposites and similarities then. I like biology and write quite extensively about the biodiversity of Colombia, while being a geologist. I passed both articles for GA. My review may be more FA-focused (a GA I see as an almost FA), so based on your improvements I passed both. Yes, the accessdates do not show up when no url is given, but when it will be the date can be edited. Edited Tungurahua as well and added my own photo (panorama) of it. Unfortunately I was 1 week too early... I have a Colombian volcanic article in prep (apart from so many more), which ties in nicely with Fuegino (where I started looking for and downloading pubs when you asked me on my talk page for GA probability). So I may add those pubs to Fuegino so others can review that. Cheers, Tisquesusa (talk) 20:25, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
@Tisquesusa: Um. I'll admit, that La Reforma (caldera) going from {{[[Template:Some improvements have been made but most of the issues are not solved, especially the lack of coherence between dates. So were the issues addressed after all? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:56, 22 March 2017 (UTC)

External Development Summit

You closed Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:External Development Summit (XDS). It appears that this was re-created in what looks to be a very similar draft at Draft:External Development Summit (and which was previously moved from Draft:External Development Summit (XDS)). I would guess that the new author, like the old ones, has a WP:COI. Would you mind taking a look to see if it qualifies for a WP:G4? --Izno (talk) 00:30, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

The drafts are very different in text. The sources do not appear to match, either. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:48, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

Kelso Wash

Responded. Disambig links would be an issue for {{Dablinks|date=March 2017}}. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 13:01, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Lake Ptolemy, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Reed and Playa. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Protecting template redirects

Twinkle's addition of protection templates seems to be breaking redirects. They should probably be placed manually after the redirect. (I don't think meant to protect that for 50 hours, either...) — Train2104 (t • c) 16:36, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

Argh. That's a bug with protection templates and redirects I had forgotten about... Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:37, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
No, they should not. For redirects, we never use the {{pp}} family - a different set of templates are used: {{R semi-protected}}; {{R template-protected}}; {{R fully protected}}, and these always go after the #REDIRECT [[...]], on a new line. Some redirects already have either a {{This is a redirect}} or a {{Redirect category shell}}, and for these, no extra template like {{R semi-protected}} is necessary since it's built-in and protection is detected automatically. Like this.
Also, please don't add {{pp}}-type templates to any template that uses either {{documentation}} or {{collapsible option}}, since these also automatically handle any pp icons that are appropriate. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:52, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
So, never trust Twinkle with redirects or templates with documentation. I'll remember it for the future. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:40, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

(Follow up from "Protecting template redirects") Obsolete template/incorrect protection template change requests

Hello J-J. This redirect showed up in the Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates today. If you could fix this that would be great. Thanks for your time. MarnetteD|Talk 14:29, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
It's done. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:29, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Many thanks. MarnetteD|Talk 18:45, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Hello again. This one now needs updating. I kinda wish they would all show up on the list at once so you could get them in one fell swoop. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 14:50, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Done and split off header. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:53, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Page deleted?

would you mind telling me why my page was deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Astraontheair (talkcontribs) 05:26, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Greetings, @Astraontheair:. The page was deleted because according to folks at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Astra (radio personality) it does not mention our inclusion criteria. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:39, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

As you can tell, I'm very new to this. The page was created by someone else and has been active for many years. If there was something that was added or uploaded that is not supposed to be there, I feel it would have been best to just remove that issue. How can we go about un-deleting the page and fixing the issues? Astraontheair (talk) 01:27, 1 April 2017 (UTC)AstraOnTheAir

You can't fix the issue until multiple independent reliable sources exist for the subject. If they do, writing up a draft on Draft:Astra (radio personality) would be the right way to proceed. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:28, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

GOCE request for Lake Cahuilla

DYK for Lake Ptolemy

On 5 April 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lake Ptolemy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a lake larger than Lake Erie existed in the eastern Sahara less than 12,000 years ago? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lake Ptolemy. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Lake Ptolemy), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
