File:The Bazaar of Bad Dreams.png

Hi, I'm not sure why you reverted the {{Non-free reduce}} tag on File:The Bazaar of Bad Dreams.png. This seems like a clearcut case of WP:NFCC#3b and Wikipedia:Non-free content#Image resolution - the recommended resolution for non-free images should be lower than 100,000 pixels and smaller than a 400x400 square. The basic rule of thumb is that if you see a scaled-down file showing the description page, it can be reduced. I'm going to go ahead and re-tag the image. Mosmof (talk) 04:30, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Because a resized image will lose a lot of detail in this case. Plus these numbers are arbitrary. Screen resolutions are only increasing, I myself am about to upgrade to a 4K monitor. With resizing everything on Wikipedia will look like a pixelated mess in a couple of years. Jmj713 (talk) 12:59, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Re your changes to the 1Q84

As we discussed in July 2014, international editions are both relevant and appropriate. Contrary to your argument, this en.wikipedia.org is not just for the English speaking world, but an English language wikipedia for the whole world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Roald.andresen (talkcontribs) 22:50, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

re: Best Foreign Language Film submissions

Thanks for the kind words. You've read my mind on the Central American list. It's on my pile to do. With it being a bank holiday in the UK this weekend, I should have it done by Monday at the latest. Agree with the other one too, so feel free to split. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 06:43, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Popeye reprints.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Popeye reprints.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 00:13, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

I noticed that you reverted my edit which is fine but one question remains, even if this maxi single was re-released on one of these albums, it is not included in the article anywhere. Where could it be added? OXYGENE 7-13 (TALKPAGE) 11:20, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Republic of China at the Olympics

Hi. I don't understand your modification here. The name "Chinese Taipei" wasn't used until the 1984 Games, so why claim incorrectly that it was "Chinese Taipei" at the Olympics from 1956? From 1956 to 1984, the country still competed as the Republic of China. The article says so correctly, but you've made the infobox incorrect. Unless there's something I'm missing? Aridd (talk) 21:23, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

That article covers ROC before the Chinese Civil War. Check our All-time medals table and explanations at the bottom, the participation totals for Taiwan and Chinese Taipei are kept together. Jmj713 (talk) 15:30, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
OK. It's a matter of presentation, then. I've looked at the Olympic website, and oddly they retroactively apply "Chinese Taipei" to 1960 (but not to 1956). Aridd (talk) 09:22, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi! Could You atleast discuss, before reverting again? We are following IOC-s view on this matter. --Pelmeen10 (talk) 21:33, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

The discussion was ongoing over at WP:OLY but stalled. The IOC views "Yugoslavia" post-breakup and S&M as one entity. Jmj713 (talk) 21:36, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
No, IOC considers: Yugoslavia until 2002 Source (they did not win medals in 2002, so that link shows until 2000) and S&M 2004-2006 [1]. You are edit warring, please stop. --Pelmeen10 (talk) 22:47, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
That does not make sense factually. Post-breakup "Yugoslavia" and S&M is the same geopolitical political entity, only renamed. We do not separate renamed entities (see Ceylon and Sri Lanaka). Jmj713 (talk) 23:47, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
We don't care about the political situation. We care about the sportive exploits. The IOC credits all the sportive achievements of Yugoslavian delegations during the Kingdom, SFR and FR eras to one continuous Olympic entity. That's the only thing which matters. Our article has never been called SFR Yugoslavia at the Olympics for a very good reason. It's the very same reason for which we don't have a separate articles for Great Britain with and without the entire isle of Ireland on for Serbia with and without Kosovo. And Sri Lanka and Ceylon aren't split here because the IOC doesn't split them either That's clearly different to how they treat YUG and SCG.Tvx1 21:42, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
Please stop your edit-warring against consensus and reliable sources. And stop acting like you have some authority. Respect Wikipedia process. I HAVE posted a full explanation at WT:OLYMPICS and repeated the essence here.Tvx1 21:59, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

I'm working on a study of political motivations and how they affect editing. I'd like to ask you to take a survey. The survey should take 5 minutes. Your survey responses will be kept private. Our project is documented at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikipedia_%2B_Politics.

2018 submissions

Hi Jmj713. Good to hear from you. Sorry, I wasn't ignoring you, I was away for a few days. Yes, great news about Belarus. My aim is to complete all the missing articles for the foreign-language film submissions. I'm up to the 71st award ceremony. I'll be back into that area of work now it's my award season time! Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 05:39, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

So some interesting things coming out of the official list! Two new countries, some not submitting (Malaysia, for one) and a few countries not on the final list. I always find it a bit odd that there's half a dozen or so countries that release no press announcment for their selection (Aus, NZ, etc). Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:47, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
It’s always a surprise, which is fun. I also find it strange that some countries do not announce their submissions, but that’s why I always look so much forward to the final list. I do wonder why some entries are left off the list. Were they disqualified somehow? Maybe we’ll find out later. Maybe some films in the past were submitted but were also left off and we might not be aware, since those submission lists were based on the Academy’s final lists, right? (I also didn’t think Niger would submit a film before Nigeria, weren’t they supposed to the last couple of years?) Jmj713 (talk) 12:53, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:11, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

I actually own a copy of Radiophonie vol. 9 and have 23 different copies of Oxygene on record, 16 copies of Equinoxe... (pressings of different countries, different labels and so on...) Pretty fanatic myself to say the least... How is that with you? I don't get much of a chance to talk to other fans so I'm curious about your response. List of NHL playoff series

Hey I know that we're trying to find a solution to the round robin game situation. I did come up with a potential solution sometime after the league announced the playoff format. I have hidden the following notes (changed for each team) on the tables for the eight affected teams; the following example is from the Boston table:

"Games played totals against Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Washington include one round-robin game from the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs. As these games were played only to determine playoff seeding, they are not considered to be a complete series and are not counted in the occurrences section or the total series win/loss records." Under this scenario we just add one game to overall games played totals for each team and add nothing to the series win/loss and occurrences sections. I'm open to other ideas on this but I do think that we should leave the occurrences section for just playoff series. Deadman137 (talk) 03:41, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 20:51, 21 September 2022 (UTC)

Not to belabor a point, but what is the difference between the "physical hardcover" and the hardcover sold on Amazon? Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 20:43, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
