License tagging for Image:DaB.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:DaB.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:05, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:SeasickSteve.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok ☠ 01:53, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not an admin, so when or if the image is deleted is not up to me. If it does get deleted, absolutely you can re-upload it when you get the permission. —Chowbok ☠ 19:50, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, in case you don't have Image:SeasickSteve.jpg on your watchlist, I've responded at Image talk:SeasickSteve.jpg about how to proceed. I've taken the speedy tag off for the moment, pending a response from the photographer. —Angr 14:27, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. The same goes for your friend who is the photographer of Image:WomadFlags.jpg. She has to agree to its being used for any purpose--including commercial reuse!--for it to be used at Wikipedia. If she could agree to one of the Creative Commons licenses I mentioned at Image talk:SeasickSteve.jpg, that would be great. —Angr 14:34, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

- The same kind of linkspammers are currently altering many pages concerning Cheshire-related things. It seems like we have to put up with them, until it gets intense enough to trigger some kind of threshold for pages to be semi-protected. I hope this helps. DDStretch (talk) 17:37, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
I've noticed that you live in the Northwich area. I have been trying to make a point for the inclusion of an article on the larger Northwich community including places like Weaverham, Hartford, Davenham, Rudheath etc.. but Ddstretch won't accept that it exists!! If you have any opinion on the subject I would be greatful if you could post it on the Northwich discussion pages under suggestions towards improvement. Thanks Northwicher 16:50, 19 January 2009
Hello, it is me again. I've noticed that you've been active in trying to combat vandalism of a Cheshire town's entry. Although your work on Wikipedia is, as I can see, mostly concerned with music, I wondered if you would be at all interested in a (sub-)project I've proposed? I've listed a proposed project concerning Cheshire on Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals. I think it can easily co-exist with Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography. If you are interested in contributing to this proposed project, even in just making small contributions at this time, please add your name to list at the appropriate place. You can have a broader discussion about it here. Many thanks. DDStretch (talk) 17:37, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for showing an interest in a new project about all things concerning Cheshire. I've set up a project page, and its associated talk now, which you can see here. It would be really good if you were able to join the project by adding your name to the project page, and adding the project page to your watchlist. Please feel free to contribute to setting up the project page for example, by joining in or creating discussions you can find on the talk page. Looking forward to seeing you there. Hi, it's been two months and there's still no word on a free license for Image:SeasickSteve.jpg so I've retagged it for deletion as a replaceable fair-use image. —Angr 13:45, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]In response to your edit of User:Gregh, asking if the h stands for Hilton, you are correct. I attended Weaverham High School. How did you find my username on here and how did you know of me? Gregh 15:37, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
I'm Jim Hickson, i'm in year 11 now...but i have no idea how i stumbled across your user area.....straaaange. I know you just cos i do, you're like the master of sports, becky diamonds boyfriend...how the hell do i know all this?! Rick Lloyd talks about you often maybe thats where... - I don't recognise the name "Jim Hickson", but I would probably recognise your face. Yeah I'm Becky's boyfriend (still, haha). Who's Rick Lloyd? Do you mean Richard, or...? As for master of sports, mhmm, strange. I was pretty good at athletics but I certainly didn't care for sports. I'm more academic than that. Where have you got that idea from? If its easier to talk to me on MSN messenger rather than me keep ruining your wikipedia page then add me at gregthegod@hotmail.com Gregh 11:47, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well i dunno i just pieced info from different places, although i'm pretty sure you were the computer geek? Richard Lloyd fat one, glasses, extremly violent, especially when it comes to rugby. And nah, i didn't really know you, there's no point, don't mind you writin on here. JimHxn 14:15, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah I was the "computer geek", though not so unsociable as the title 'geek' suggests. I seemed to be one of the first to introduce proxy servers which apparently hadn't happened before at Weaverham, so that got me a bollocking. And yeah, I know Richard Lloyd. So are you a 'computer geek'? Not many computer-illiterate people frequent wikipedia. Also, how are the GCSEs? You very intelligent or...? Predicted grades? Gregh 15:05, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Cheap.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Cheap.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Orphaned non-free image (Image:Firin in Fouta.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Firin in Fouta.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Seasick Steve Cheap album

I noticed you wrote the Dog House Music article. I myself was working on the chronology of the albums in the Seasick Steve article. I noticed you decided on '2005' for the Cheap album. In the 2006 interview (see external links at Seasick Steve) they say '2004'. Do you have a source that says 2005? Key to the city 23:41, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

17. Dan Magnusson
Evening- I came across your page as I saw you had done some editing on the Seasick Steve article. I did a stub for Dan Magnusson, Steve's drummer who drummed with him on the first album (with the Level Devils) and who is currently recording on his new album as well- included all this plus a link to the LDs webpage as a source for verification- and some prick has gone ahead and deleted it. As he is a professional musician supporting one of hte biggest acts currently in the UK, imho hes notable- could you maybe have a look and if possible reestablish the article including any features which will prevent the same happening again? Many thanks. -->rob77 —Preceding comment was added at 13:18, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi, Yup, thats me. Interesting- I am not trying to argue with you I hasten to add! But presumably by the rationale, the members of say Iron Maiden shouldn't have individual pages unless they had done something notable as individuals? Seems to be a very illogical application of the rules here! Cheers for your help anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rob77 (talk • contribs) 14:54, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Chiweshe.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Chiweshe.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 12:32, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Seasick Steve
[edit]Jim, Good work on tidying up Seasick Steve's page and getting the album title right- my attempt at an info box down the bottom needs more work! I would like to get a bit more biographical info if possible, especially date of birth which I haven't managed to find anywhere (believe hes 68) so he could be properly referenced biographically. Rob (talk) 00:34, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
No problem re the dob, have to respect that obviously. You could maybe consider breaking the article down a bit into sub-headings more, perhaps looking at how each album has changed musically, ie from group to just him and back to group again- just an idea if you want to expand it a bit. Image copyright problem with Image:Oye 045.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Oye 045.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Wikipedia policy allows us to link to legal streamed copies of albums. It would be useful to draw up a guideline on how and when to link to such albums; however, there is concern that it may not be appropriate as the music would not be available in all parts of the world. Is the benefit of having access to the music for most users outweighed by the fact that some users will follow a link to find the music is not playable in their region? Your view would be helpful at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums. SilkTork ✔Tea time 02:23, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
