Jim1138, you never fail to impress me. You are always on top of things, often beating me to the punch, and your recent changes patrolling is judicious, fair, and yet appropriately stringent. We (and I) need more folks like you, tirelessly working to keep the garbage cleaned up, and working to keep the other editors honest. I thank you personally, you have helped ME out many, many times. Keep up the good work - I got your back, because you always have mine! —Josh3580talk/hist 06:43, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

St. Marys City

Hi, I know you are trying to help, but here are the following problems with your revert--
1) Your revert just threw out the image alignment for the entire article-- Now most of the images are in the wrong sections.
It would have been better to have first brought it up on the talk page. Then, even if you are right, the fixes could then be made in manageable stages, :preserving the image-to-section layout in the process, rather than one revert throwing most of the images in the article into the wrong sections.
Instead your revert has scrambled the image-layout for the entire article, which will take hours to correct.
2) (from the Wikipedia Manual of Style on "Images" [reasons why you can re-size a fixed image])--
"Images containing important detail (for example, a map, diagram, or chart) may need larger sizes than usual to make them readable."--

So here is the problem, since your revert, "The Maryland Toleration Act" photo is now unreadable, whereas a larger rendering on the page will make it :readable.
3) "Images in which a small region is relevant, but cropping to that region would reduce the coherence of the image, may need to be larger than normal."
The "Maryland Toleration Act" is also now badly cropped by your revert.
4) Lead images should usually be no wider than "upright=1.35" (defaults to "300px").

You have the lead image (the sailing ship at the top of the article) at 220px. Although a thumb is not even a fixed image, if we assume your argument to :be correct, then it can actually be 300px and not 220px where you have it now.
5) "Large, panoramic images, may require larger sizes to make them viewable or readable."
The lead picture is also a large panoramic image.
The "Maryland statehouse" image in the body of the article is panoramic too (red brick building down a winding path, which by the way, was the first :capitol :of the State of Maryland, which also says "panoramic just by the very nature of the subject", although if nothing else, it is a physically :panoramic shot).
The "planters house" photo in the body of the article is also a panoramic shot.
Where such exceptions are allowed, the Manual of Style/size section I have been quoting says the upper limit is 500px (tall) see below--
"...larger images should generally be a maximum of 500 pixels tall, so that they can comfortably be displayed on the smallest displays in common use. :This can be done by proportionately reducing the width."
I'm not sure what that looks like yet, it might be smaller than what they were before, but it would be bigger than 220px wide, I believe.
6) "Similar types of images within an article often look appealing if they appear at the same pixel size."
So if we establish an acceptable size for the panoramic shots (in the body of the article, I gather, not the lead). Then the other pictures in the :article :can, according to this, be sized the same way to maintain an appealing appearance for the article, as per Wikipedia recommendations.
The only exception might be the "Maryland Toleration Act" which is now unreadable and may require unique sizing, as per Wiki policy.
Summary: Since the total-page revert has disrupted the overall layout (images no longer match their relevant sections) can we revert until the :adjustments :above are made? I am willing to work with you on this, but it will be less disruptive to the article and less overwhelming to make these fixes :in stages.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing your thoughts. 2602:306:BDA0:97A0:466D:57FF:FE90:AC45 (talk) 07:20, 8 March 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment :added by 2602:306:BDA0:97A0:466D:57FF:FE90:AC45 (talk)

Richard Dawkins

Is Richard Dawkins' qualified to talk about Nobel Prizes? As he has never received one.

In the period of history with a strong Islamic influence 9th Century to 15th Century how many Nobel Prizes if they existed would they have received? Did Isaac Newton receive a Nobel Prize?

Why is anyone giving oxygen to a second rate thinker like Richard Dawkins? He is more likely to create a culture of antagonism, he's reached his pinnacle, does he have a problem that he wasn't a great scientist? He comes across as riding on coat-tails.

The issue as always is really one of partisans: for 'science' or 'Islam' or 'Christianity'. Plenty of roadblocks erected by second rate thinkers, it gives them a sense of importance they do not deserve. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.204.105.188 (talk) 16:56, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

If you noticed, I removed ALL entries as they were not reliably sourced (RS) or synthesized. If this is a valid conclusion, surly some RS has made a statement? Jim1138 (talk) 19:01, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Same user added the same thing. https://www.facebook.com/thefreshchannel/posts/10152161018323147?comment_id=29492635&offset=0&total_comments=4 I understand this is Facebook but if you scroll down to Jeremy Gasta, you'll see that Fresh TV(the OFFICIAL company) has said that the season generally had good ratings most likely from the younger audience. 205.153.156.221 (talk) 19:10, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Giggett did not restore all of the edit, just what has an RS. I don't see anything by Jeremy Gasta on good ratings. There is this: "it's reasons like this - refusing to listen to the fans and not believing you're at fault - is why all-stars got such bad ratings in the US, and may cause it to be cancelled if you don't do something about it.". So I don't understand what you are referring to. BTW: Dissociative identity disorder unlikely manifests itself they way it is portrayed with Mike. So, Jeremy Gasta should, to be RS, use a psychologist's professional opinion MPD and not blow smoke. Jim1138 (talk) 20:51, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Sorry to butt in, but I don't think that's what he meant. If you look at the replies to Jeremy Gasta, Fresh TV COMMENTED that Total Drama All=Stars had "generally good ratings". If you look at the conversation, you'll see it. 72.220.176.33 (talk) 21:42, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. Fresh TV is TDAS which makes it a primary source and not RS. I blanked the section again. The makers' publications can be used regarding their work such as who they are and how they made TDAS, but not others' opinions of their work. Jim1138 (talk) 00:25, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Editors on Wikipedia should be oriented toward an encyclopedia based on reliable sources, not one based upon opinion, hearsay, or having the article 's point-of-view be oriented toward their preferences. It should be verifiable, sourced reliably, and, among others, have a neutral point of view. If you don't follow this, then you have a conflict of interest and should not be editing here. Need your guidance

Hello Jim. I noticed that you recently reverted edits on article Sajin Vass Gunawardena. Well I did the same yesterday and have been getting bombarded ever since. Let me clarify before I proceed; I am NOT requesting you to interfere in WP:ANI discussing and talk on my behalf; all I am trying to do is get an independent opinion on the matter.

I reported matter on ANI as I found certain action objectionable and questionable. Well, as expected, I did not get a satisfactory answer and have hence raised further points. In the meanwhile, it will be helpful for me if you can guide me on

a) If the article was updated as per WP:NPOV guidelines? I checked and found no issues.
b) If the contents (except the mention of Sajin begs forgiveness) were properly sourced and could have been maintained in the page?
c) If the admin was right in revoking my rights when I had not even violated WP:3RR rule?
d) If reasons given for content blanking by Admin were correct and justified?

Please try and help me out. Cheers AKS

Re your work on the 'effective stress' section

Dear Jim,

Regarding the 'effective stress' section, much of the information are wrong.

1. The reference given was wrong (i checked it in the library, Terzaghi's works were on different pages, and even in those pages, he did not explicitly define effective stress. Please refer to Terzaghi's works in either 1923 or 1936.

2. The analogy of adding and removing water to the spheres contains several mistakes. e.g. if you keep adding more water, hydrostatic pressure at the bottom of the pile would keep increasing (see triangular distribution of hydrostatic water profile). Effective stress stays constant because total stress increases by the same amount. Also, if you remove water, effective stress may not change at all if the spheres collection are allowed to change its volume.

3. Effective stress is the stress that controls the shear strength and stress-strain behaviours of geomaterials (refer to basic soil mechanics textbook). The concept of effective stress itself can be made much more fundamental (refer to the works of Biot or Coussy)

Please redo the entire section.

Best regards, Liam.

Meranau

Meranau recalls the tradition of the fabled kingdom of Bembaran as the origin of the people and of the towns therein. Tradition claim that the Meranau descended from Bantugen of the fabled kingdom of Bembaran, some believed is the present day Lake Lanao, while a few scholars point of Cabadbaran of Agusan based on geographical explanations provided in the Darangen, Meranau epic. The myth around the destruction of Bembaran remain sorouded, yet many believed a great volcanic eruption of Mount Makaturing completely erased the kingdom from the face of the earth and in place of Kiaranda a ragat,Tiongcop a Layagen- the present Lake Lanao.

Tradition claims that at the time of the destruction, a brother of four were out on a hunting safari. The brothers reached kamanga, a village at the edge of a forest in what is now Dakudau Mapantao Bubong. Learning the event that befall the fabled Kingdom of Bembaran, the brothers agreed to build their own kingdoms on what is now the two Lanao provinces. Butuanen Kalinan, the eldest of the four chose the largest area stretching from the municipality of Marantao on the northwest side of the Lake to the northern part going to the east of the rimming mountain and towards the southeast. This was the principality of Bayabao. The inggued or towns comprising Bayabao are the present day non-municpality and municipalities of Marantao, Saguiaran, Baudi-Puso Bentong, Piagapo, Maguing, Bembaran, Wao, Lembabayabao, Poonabayabao, Ditsaan-Ramain, Bubong and Marawi City. The second brother, Dimaampao Kalinan, to take Principality of Onayan, now comprised by the municipalities of Butig, Lumbayanague, Macadar,Lembac a unayan,Dumalundong,Lumbatan, Bayang, Tubaran, Binidayan, Marogong, Ganassi, Paulas, Madamba, Kalanogas, Sultan Gumander,Maganding, Malabang, Balabagan, Kapatagan and Karomatan.

The third brother, Batara Kilaten, chose the area around the southwest-southeaster side to the northwest side across the lake. This is the Principality of Masiu (formerly Zainun) composed of present-day municipalities of Taraka, Molundo, Tamparan, Masiu, Madalum, Munai, Kalawi-Bacolod, Tugaya and Balindong.

Amerogong Topa-an, the fourth brother took the northwest side across the Agus river down to Iligan bay and called the Principality of Balo-I, now composed of the municipalities of Pantar,Tagoloan, Balo-I, Matenggao, Pantao-Ragat, Poona Piagapo, Tangcal, Magsaysay, Lapayan, Kauswagan,Linamon, Bacolod, Maigo, Kolambugan and Iligan City. The traditional principality is now located mostly in Lanao del Norte.

The four principalities is to the Meranaus the Pat A Phangampong Ko Ranao (Literary means four Kingdom of Pangampong a Ranau), built on the Igma Ago Taritib (Order and Consensus) among the founding fathers, this is the unwritten constitution that binds the Meranau since then up to the present. To safeguard the agreement, the forefathers instituted the Maratabat or Meranau psychology that is deeply ingrained in the cultural matrix. The origin maybe mythical but the operation of the Phangampong and adherence to the consensus remain alive and sustained. The coming of Islam to Lanao is contingent to the coming of Islam to Sulu and Maguindanao during the 14th century. Sharif Kabungsuan who descended from a line of missionaries tracing lineage to Prophet Muhammad, first reached Maguindanao and proceeded to Lanao. The Salsila or genealogy is zealousy guarded recording line of descent from Prophet Muhammad. The other Arab missionary, Sharif Alawi also came to Ranau by way of Taguloan, now the municipality of Taguloan in the province of Misamis Oriental.

Thus, the coming of Islam to Ranau further sustained the already existing principalities thereby further claiming affinity to the Muslim world. The ethno-linguistic matrix of the Meranau finds strong affinity to that of the Maguindanao of the Cotabato provinces and the Ilanun, who settled partly in Maguindanao and in Lanao. The Meranau claim that Irannun group, from the Meranau word Iranaun or from the Lake region, were actually Meranau who ventured to trade in the flourishing Sulu-China trade route cutting across Malaysia and Indonesia. Recorded History cites that the Sulu sultanate employed Illannun mariners in their trade. Many of the Illanuns who reached Sabah and other areas in Borneo settled in these places. Hence, to this day there are groups there who are still referred to as Illanun and traces descent to the Ilannun in both Maguindanao and Ranau of Meranau called in latin word Maranao people.

Oh for heaven's sake. It's a USER page! It's not an encyclopedia page! I was promoting no business nor any commercial activity; I was helping others who wanted to know more about me, the USER!

I see nothing in the guideline page you sent me that indicates they should apply to user pages. Are you saying I should waste bandwidth and make maintenance harder by wholesale copying from other places, rather than linking to them? That's okay if your thing is hummingbirds, I guess...

Now if someone saw fit to create a page about me in the main namespace, I could see your concern.

I did a search for "user page guidelines," and saw nothing.

Do you really think the guidelines for main namespace pages should apply to individuals' personal User: pages? If so, I'm simply going to delete mine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jan Steinman (talkcontribs) to jim 1138: NO

Correction in UKRAINE section of RUSSIFIED Names

Hi Jim1138,

I am new to this, so if u can help then that would be great :0) The changes I am trying to make are in the Ukraine section. I noticed that all the names used are still the Russian (or "Russified") names that reflect the "Russification" process of WW2, etc. I know what names are correct because I am a Ukrainian native speaker. But for documentation purposes you can verify that the correct Ukrainian names were officially recognized by the US State Dept in 1997 (I do not know the exact document number). There is an excellent article that refers to exactly this issue in the following newspaper article:

http://www.evalleyvoice.com/docs/ValleyVoiceJune2011.pdf

Please scroll down to page 4 to read it. Thus, other names that should be corrected, for example are:

Lvov should be LVIV

Ternopol should be TERNOPIL

Chernobyl should be CHORNOBYL

etc-etc

These changes should also be made in the main block of INFO on Ukraine (at top-right), so that the capital is correctly listed as "Kyiv" (and NOT as Kiev). This would mean also correcting the sections/pages on Kyiv alone, as well as the pages for the "Chornobyl Nuclear Accident" (which still also uses the incorrect Russian name of "Chernobyl")

These may seem like minor trivialities, but if Wikipedia is to continue to be the excellent resource it is, then this needs to happen.... and it seems only fair to the millions of Ukrainians around the world to whom these names 'belong' (much as we would not want names of US cities to be listed only in Icelandic ;0). In light of recent events in Ukraine, I think these correction take on a special sense of immediacy when one considers the struggle Ukraine currently is facing against Russian aggression. The names, like those of any country, are a viatl part of their innate identity.

Being a novice, I'm not sure I'm the right person to do these changes, but perhaps you and your people have someone who is adept at doing what is probably an easy cut/replace (for thos who know how to do such things).

Thank you in advance for your kind help!

Common English names are used. See WP:COMMONNAME. Official or alternate names can be added to an article of that topic, but probably shouldn't be added to other articles unless it helps clarify. The common English names should be used, otherwise people will not know what is being talked about. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 09:33, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Regarding my change to Johny Hendricks's article (changed reach to 69 inches), my source was the UFC production notes for UFC 171. I know it's difficult to list this as a source but the tale of the tape for the main event in UFC 171 showed that 69 inches is the correct reach for Hendricks. How can I support this change in the article? (the reach that is showing right now, 71 inches, is incorrect and has no source supporting it) Psycho-Krillin (talk) 16:23, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Psycho-Krillin@: It does seem that the majority favors 69", wish the search results were more consistent. Kind of wonder if Hendricks' reach is 71", but his manager is trying to get it publicized as 69" to make his opponents over-confident. Shifting birth years for actresses seems quite common. If you do a search on "Johny Hendricks reach 69" as well as "Johny Hendricks reach 71" you will get hits on both. Bloodyellow: 71" Bloodyellow: 69". espn: 69" espn: 69" It's a little confusing, but it tends to lean toward 69". Maybe use the last ESPN ref? Best to use a reference for something like this as there seems to be much edit warring on this kind of stuff. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Please change it as you see fit, but do add a reference! Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 17:21, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Thank you, I did as you advised.Psycho-Krillin (talk) 18:41, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi there!

Hi there! I noticed that you edited the Sonic Generations wiki recently, so I have a question for you. Am I allowed to put in the PC requirements to run the game? If I can, where do I put it? BustaBunny (talk) 14:20, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

BustaBunny@ Kind of want to avoid Wikipedia from being a how-to manual. So it's likely you shouldn't (see WP:NOTMANUAL). You might check other software articles to see what is done. You can link to the software's page, thought that should be limited to one link unless there are special circumstances. See WP:ELOFFICIAL. Hope this helps! Jim1138 (talk) 17:34, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the help, but just one more thing, I asked you and 3 other users this same question for a quick answer. Is that allowed? I ask because there seems to be some trouble going because of it over at sergecross73's place. BustaBunny (talk) 22:49, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

FYI, the trouble isn't that he asked 3 people the same question, but rather, multiple editors on my talk page suspect him of being a sockpuppet. Sergecross73 msg me 02:10, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Mobile site

I know wikipedia works best on computers, but I have had some issues with the mobile site. Is there a place I can go to get help with it? BustaBunny (talk) 02:22, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

BustaBunny@ Perhaps Help:Mobile access or wp:Teahouse? I am not familiar with mobile access. Hope this helps! Jim1138 (talk) 02:52, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, will check it out later. BustaBunny (talk) 03:33, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Thank you

Just so you know ...

I blocked this user indef, but that should better have been reported to WP:UAA. Daniel Case (talk) 21:27, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

Daniel Case@ That was an automatic Huggle AIV report. I just reverted for "unexplained deletion". I didn't realize that there were no warnings on their talk page nor that there was a UAA issue. Not sure why Huggle did that. Thanks Jim1138 (talk) 22:13, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
