Can you add Brian Lara Images

Please, can you or your contacts put a picture/s of this great man that does not violate copyright issues? Brian Lara Wikipedia page requires pictures of him -- a portrait image and some cricketing images. Thanks 130.194.5.130 00:41, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

The general Wikipedia guideline is that appearing for a full national team is notable, but not appearing for a youth national team. Thanks, NawlinWiki 12:14, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

What is your source of 17-78 for his first century ? Almost all the references have it as 17-82. He scored it on the fourth day of the match, so I suspect your source used the starting date of the match instead of the one on which he scored his 100. Tintin (talk) 15:32, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Harvinder Singh

Hi just wondered why you've reversed my small addition to the Harvinder Singh page twice today without telling my why. talk Fri Apr 13 13:18:40 CEST 2007

Are you aware of this? I have seen a lot of your articles, I am suprised how small this article is you are usually more comprehensive. That you have put so little in this article makes me think there is little to say?Garrie 04:15, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

You're right, there is very little to say about the guy at this stage hence it being a stub. I've seen alot of articles on here about non first class cricketers who have represented their country at under 19 level. I reckon there would be atleast 30 of them, not saying that they should be there but I merely felt that a precedent had been sent. Now this guy has captained his country - http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/australia/engine/current/match/288202.html so if any of these players are notable than he would be one I feel. Cheers Crickettragic

You have been blocked from editing for a short time in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for violating the three-revert rule on Ranjit Fernando. Please be more careful to discuss controversial changes or seek dispute resolution rather than engaging in an edit war. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below.

I'm not an admin, but I spotted 12345ak's post on ANI. The whole situation is rather confusing. The one thing that seemed clear to me, though, is that neither of you communicated with one another. Is that a fair assessment? --Iamunknown 01:18, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

I am guilty of not explaining to the guy why I was deleting the material sure, but that was only because he was well aware. If and when I get unblocked I am not sure whether I am even going to start posting here again, that is how peeved off I am about how this has been handled. Firstly you need to look at the material he kept adding, clearly unacceptable and with a link to a hate site. When I started removing this material I was flooded with harassing messages on my talk page which I deleted. When I got up this morning I see that this person has reversed my last 30 edits to various articles. Please take a look at them yourself and you will see that my edits were genuine. I then posted a complaint to WikipediaCricket and asked the more experienced members how best to deal with this. I then found that over the next hour this person was editing this post and reversing the names. The harassment then contiued with the user posting the reversed complaint in the place which you found it. --Crickettragic 01:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
The diffs are indeed everywhere. :-D I am inclined to think, based upon 12345ak's previous edits, that he or she moved the link to the bottom (which was originally added by an anonymous user, see [1]) which is, although the link is to a hate site, proper formatting.
I assumed after seeing the diffs that it was a failure to communicate. I also noticed (no hard feelings) that you haven't used your user talk page very much [2]. That might be a good thing to do when your block expires or when you get unblocked. (Also about that, see Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Betacommand/Proposed_decision#Communication; bad things happen when people don't communicate.) :-)
I'll leave a note at Alison's talk page on your and 12345ak's behalf. --Iamunknown 01:36, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Your recent report to WP:AIV

Thank you for making a report about Fluffyducky (talk · contribs · block log) at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators generally only block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. In this case the editor has not recieved a recent final warning on the talk page. Warnings left in edit summaries cannot be included due to the fact that the editor may not see them. Also activity seems to have stopped for now. If the user re-starts issue a final warning, and then we will block from there. Any further questions please don't hesitate to get in touch. Khukri 07:28, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Infobox problems

I have replied to the Help desk but thought i would reply here as well. Right, i have now fixed the problem. Someone had moved the page and cleaned up the template without amending the documentation. The correct documentation can be found at Template:Infobox cricket tournament main/doc and the template is called Template:Infobox cricket tournament main now. Put simply, all the parameters were renamed and so none of the old parameters would have worked. By the By, you should be using Template:Infobox cricket tournament anyway as it is for a specific event if i am not mistaken. I have now used that on World Cricket Classic. Hope that helps. Not sure if you're aware of this or not, but you can limit the amount of columns, or use different headings, using the new infobox. Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:RossSmithStKilda.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 04:30, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Newtown Jets Logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Newtown Jets Logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:14, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Gokul Inder Dev

A tag has been placed on Gokul Inder Dev requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. AFL Player Templates

Sorry, I'm looking at improving the AFL template to be more presentable and complete with information (ala soccer, basketball templates). There was some information in the previous template that was rather useless (ie debut stadium, and debut information) since it overlapped with other points. Changing the current player info to meet this template I'm editing shouldn't be too hard (as far as transferring information goes).

I've re-done the Jim Adamson info box as an example - took 5 secs to transfer the information.

Boomtish (talk) 09:50, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

  • To be honest, I think the whole process of WikiProject AFL is/will be a pain to continually edit. But really, I'd like to think we're trying to make all AFL-related articles the best as possible, and I strongly believe this is one step in that direction (particularly looking at soccer, american basketball etc articles, which are miles ahead at the moment). We're still in relatively early stages as far as player articles are concerned, so better now than never, I suppose.Boomtish (talk) 10:00, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Saeed Bin Nasir

A tag has been placed on Saeed Bin Nasir requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Mbisanz (talk) 10:33, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you've been changing a few titles from Senior to , Sr. etc. Have you considered getting WP:AWB which is very useful to make lots of repetitive changes. Keep up the good work. The-Pope (talk) 23:56, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Roy Cazaly/Laurie Nash Career Highlights

Hi there. I copied and pasted the AFL templete from Cazaly and Nash and was in the middle of replacing Cazaly's career highlights with Nash's when I got an edit conflict. My internet connection is never good which leads me to save more often the ordinary editor. --Roisterer (talk) 07:30, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Aussie Rules Team Template

Thanks for the good work. There is such an effort being currently made to retrospectively embellish AL/VFL history (such as, for example a St Kilda best and fairest player in 1923 being represented as having won the "Trevor Barker Medal" and, as well, statements to the effect that the "Trevor Barker Medal" has been awarded annually since 1914) that, it seems, soon there will be no people who understand the differences between a 19th man, and then later a 19th man and a 20th man and an "interchange player". Thank you so much for using your expertise so that it is made abundantly clear that, as they say, "that was then and this is now". Best to you. Lindsay658 (talk) 23:15, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Season infobox

A great innovation! Lindsay658 (talk) 05:26, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

In response to your question about whether I think that anything should be added to your design of the "Season Infobox", I delayed my answer so that I could have another look at what you've done this morning — and, also, have time to reflect upon what might be important for the skimming reader to know at a glance about the entire season.

(1) In relation to the sort of summary that your infobox presents, and in relation to a relevant piece of information that is missing, I do not think that any reference should be made to the manner in which the premiership was decided (ARGUS System, Page-McIntyre, etc.); simply because, in my view, it is information that is of far too great a complexity for those who would have no desire to look further down the page.

(2) I suggest that you amend the label "Premiers" so that it reads "Premiership Team".

I suggest this because embedded within the title "Premiership Team" is the fact that, in those days, the team so designated may or may not have played in what is now known as a "Grand Final"; and the designation "Premiers" (on its own)might lead the naive reader to imagine that there was a compulsory "Grand Final".

(3) Given (2), in my view, your designation "Minor premiers" is fine, and should not be changed.

(4) It seems that the only relevant (i.e., of some significant importance) information that is missing is the length of the pre-finals season. (Although I have no information presently at my fingertips, I recall that there was at least one season when an unusual number of games were played; and this would certainly draw attention to that fact.)

Given that you already have a heading "Champion of the Season" — and, I suppose, if you go back earlier in time it would then read "Champion of the Colony" — it would seem important (for your formatting) that this new label is no longer than "Champion of the Season", currently your longest label. So, I suggest that:

(a) you insert this new category immediately below the "Clubs" category;
(b) that of you call it "Home-and-Away Season"; and
(c) [having thought about it for some time], that the entry in that category would read, for example, the unambiguous "18 rounds" — rather than, that is, the sometimes confusing "18 matches", or "18 games", or just "18".

I hope that helps your valuable work. In haste, Lindsay658 (talk) 00:03, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

I think that it looks really good; and, what's more, it gives a brief snapshot of the most important features of the specific season in question. BTW, I have accumulated some more information that supports the "Champion of the Colony/Season"; once I have some time, and once I get the last bit that I require, I will adjust the article.Lindsay658 (talk) 23:46, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

could you please do me a favor?

Hello,

I am a master student at the Institute of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. Currently I am wrapping up my master thesis titled “Can Wikipedia be used for knowledge service?” In order to validate the knowledge evolution maps of identified users in Wikipedia, I need your help. I have generated a knowledge evolution map to denote your knowledge activities in Wikipedia according to your inputs including the creation and modification of contents in Wikipedia, and I need you to validate whether the generated knowledge evolution map matches the knowledge that you perceive you own it. Could you please do me a favor?

  1. I will send you a URL link to a webpage on which your knowledge evolution map displays. Please assign the topic (concept) in the map to a certain cluster on the map according to the relationship between the topic and clusters in your cognition, or you can assign it to ‘none of above’ if there is no suitable cluster.
  2. I will also send a questionnaire to you. The questions are related to my research topic, and I need your viewpoints about these questions.

The deadline of my thesis defense is set by the end of June, 2008. There is no much time left for me to wrap up the thesis. If you can help me, please reply this message. I will send you the URL link of the first part once I receive your response. The completion of my thesis heavily relies much on your generous help.

Sincerely

Cricketing footballers

[5] You amaze me: I don't know where you keep finding these blokes. What I thought was only ever going to be a fairly concise list is becoming massive. Great work!. Moondyne 13:42, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment - As you say Corinthian F.C. were most definitely an amateur club, albeit a very prominent one. My only reason for including them in the list was to show for whom they played at club level, as it looked a bit odd only referring to England. There are many more who played for Corinthian and played county cricket, but I don't propose to include them. If we do, it would lower the bar and admit any county cricketer who had a Sunday morning kick-around for an amateur football club. I have tweaked the intro to try to clarify this.

In the Victorian era, there were many amateur footballers who played for England and also played some cricket at a first-class level. A few who come to mind are Anthony Hossack, Charles Chenery, Cuthbert Ottaway and John Brockbank - should they be included? Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:02, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for completing the references - I started them yesterday but "life" got in the way. I was planning to finish it this morning but you've saved me a task. Cheers! Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:04, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

UAE category

It appears to be an error on my part. I was maintenance deleting "Category:United Arab Emirates cricketers" and other ones that had Emirates instead of Emirati. Hugh Gavin information

I am interesetd in the source of Hugh Gavin's DOB and games record. Is it AFL official stats or from the AFL website stats? The club he played with, Essendon, has his games record as 108.

There is also some discrepency in the Champion of Colony winners with 2 listed for 1902. As hugh Gavin didn't play in 1903 he clearly did not win it in that year as listed on the website. Do you know the source of the winners listed

Footballer/cricketer list

Hi, just to let you know I've removed Stan Nichols from the List of English cricket and football players because Joyce's book doesn't mention him playing in the Football League for anyone. Although his article says he was with QPR in his youth, QPR only joined the FL in 1920, so either he never played first-team football at all, or only in the Southern League. Also removed Wolves (no first-team appearances) and Gillingham (non-league at the time) from Cyril Poole, and added some teams to Henry White. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:48, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Player infoboxes

Hi, thanks for the message.

To answer your question, no, I don't know how to make the representative reference hideable or optional according to relevance. It's one issue I myself had with the infobox, so I don't have a big problem with it's temporary removal until we can figure out a better way of referencing. Port Adelaide Football Club

I notice that you are recategorising historic Port Adelaide Players from Port Adelaide Football Club to Port Magpies. As our Port Adelaide Football Club article states, the club started in 1870 while the Port Magpies started in 1997, which means that placing players like Bob Quinn (Australian footballer) in Port Magpies is contradictory as Quinn had retired 50 years prior to the creation of the Port Magpies. --Roisterer (talk) 03:27, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

In the past I have found pre-1896 players (for, say St Kilda) categorised as St Kilda Football Club along with the VFL/AFL St Kilda players so theoretically we could just have one category for the two groups. Otherwise, what you have suggested would be a good compromise. --Roisterer (talk) 12:46, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Allow me some time to look over his edits. -- Longhair\talk 00:43, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

He appears to be a new editor of sorts, overly keen, and trying to do his best. It's really a content issue you've got here, not an editor behaving badly. I can drop him a note to his talk page if you like to let him know of the discussion taking place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject AFL#Pre-season comp. In the interests of assuming good faith to a new editor, he's not breaking any rules as such. Feel free to provide me with any diffs that may indicate he's acting otherwise. I'm still looking over his contributions btw. Cheers. -- Longhair\talk 00:51, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm beginning to see the disruption to articles that you describe. I agree, there's been no improvement made to the article on the St Kilda Football Club, or really any other for that matter. I'll keep an eye on him to see where our efforts to bring him to communicate lead us. -- Longhair\talk 01:06, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Btw, he appears to have ceased editing for now, about 30 minutes ago. Let me know if he resurfaces with his usual behaviours. Cheers. -- Longhair\talk 01:08, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Back editing now. Could you perhaps incorporate his new changes to the existing template then mark his duplicate for deletion if it's deemed it isn't useful? That I think will will solve the template duplication issue. As for him not responding to hardly any messages at all, well, that's another matter :) Wikipedia:Disruptive editing is worth a read over for some remedies. -- Longhair\talk 01:24, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
There's still quite a lot of articles than make use of {{Infobox_VFL_Premiership_Season}}. Take a look at what's currently linking to it. Those articles will require a revert or cleanup before the template can be deleted. -- Longhair\talk 01:47, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

There is no such thing as a wooden spoon in the AFL/VFL. There is no prize or award for finishing last - it is a blatantly factually incorrect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BrianBeahr (talkcontribs)

You had already seen and had been looking at the St Kilda football Club article without making any changes to it yourself before I added the correct name of the Premiership season, the count of Minor Premierships and the team of each years leading goalkicker and brownlow medallist to the existsing infobox that is being used for more recent seasons.

You only edited the article on st kilda to annoy me and to add a space a dot or a color box here and there after i had added relevent and more factually correct information to each article (usng the infobox that is being used for more recent seasons).

are longhair, crickettragic and the pope the same person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BrianBeahr (talkcontribs)

I am Longhair and Longhair only, and your assumptions of good faith are again slipping... -- Longhair\talk 07:45, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
I've blocked BrianBeahr for edit warring at the St Kilda article, and also raised the matter at WP:AWNB#Recent AFL project edits for some other eyes on the matter. -- Longhair\talk 08:41, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
If he's proving himself familiar with both CSD and 3RR templates, then the least he can do is read his own talk page and respond to any outstanding issues raised there. It's unfortunate he chose the edit warring path, but that's life, and he was blocked accordingly for his choices. He'll be back in a day or so, hopefully with better intentions and efforts with his interactions. -- Longhair\talk 08:47, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
I've done my 3 reverts there also, but I consider it the undoing of vandalism actually, when every single editor alongside him disagrees with his changes. The article is back to the norm. -- Longhair\talk 08:51, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
