Copyright problem: Cape Epic

Cape Epic

Hi, I just wanted to write a note about your recent edits to Cape Epic. First, thanks for getting involved in Wikipedia and helping to improve articles. I hope that you will help to improve many more. However, there's some problems with Cape Epic as it now stands because it doesn't read as encyclopaedic. The trouble is it looks like it is the official webpage of the race with the style of writing and level of detail. On Wikipedia. we have to write in another way, more objective, fitting it into the "big picture" and critiquing where necessary. The big way we do this is through reliable third-party sources, which unfortunately the Cape Epic article doesn't have. Hi, then I advise you to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest which will help guide you in writing. Having license for any copyright violation doesn't make the problem go away particularly, as really we need everything sourced from reliable third-party sources. But, on the other hand, being on the "inside" means you can help in different ways - for example with photos, which is often cited as Wikipedia's weak point, which could be released under Creative Commons licenses and be used in Wikipedia. I don't know the answers to your questions but I know which direction to point you. I guess you have read through Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials: emails are handled by the Volunteer Response Team, who use the Open-source Ticket Request System (OTRS). You can ask them general questions directly at Wikipedia:OTRS noticeboard, although any private material should be kept to email. Keep in mind that they are volunteers: I would expect a response within a few days and they will tell you what kind of verification they are looking for. The OTRS manual is private for the volunteers that work on it so I can't answer your question directly, I'm afraid. Severo^TC 07:37, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
