Penn Trafford Controversy Heading

Mr Billman,

I am trying to ad information to the Penn Trafford page abut the se tape scandal, but you keep deleting it. I am not sure how this information is not constructive. I am from the area and a member of the 2003 graduating class. That sex tape is something that is still talked about frequently today here. Every graduating class since then tries to top these achievements. I deleted information about this incident once. Prior to that, somebody kept adding the word "gateway" to the article for no apparent reason. Yep, that is the article I am talking about. Please understand that jumping in to the edit war does not help to difuse it but only adds to the edit war itself. The best way to difuse the issue is to start a conversation on the talk page and encourage users per their talk page to take part in that conversation. Please understand I am aware you have not violated 3RR, but I am simply warning all the users involved that continuing to edit war can result in a block. The Ohio Portal The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images. Selected Article: Indian Head Rock There is a eight ton rock in Ohio that was removed from the Ohio River. This rock is known as the Indian Head Rock Dating back to the early 1800’s, this rock was seen sticking out of the Ohio River and used as a navigational mark for barges along the river. The names of citizens from the town of Portsmouth, Ohio are carved into the rock from the late nineteenth a early twentieth centuries. Some of the names were of well known families from Ohio. They would swim out to the rock, have their picture taken with it or simply carve their names into it. With the advent of the Locks and Dams along the Ohio River, the rock eventually was submerged, but the legend lived on. A gentleman from Ironton, Ohio located the rock after searching a very long time for it, and he and a crew of scuba divers recovered the rock and took it to the shore to be donated to Ohio for historical value. After hearing the news about the rock being removed, Kentucky introduced legislation against the removal of the rock. They also want the diver who found it to be prosecuted for removing the rock. Kentucky owns the greatest part of the land the river runs on. Even the Army Corp. of Engineers got involved as to how to move the rock without damaging it. For this reason it has been proposed that the inactive WikiProject Ohio Townships be added as our taskforce. There is a !poll going on at WT:OH and your opinion is essential in the matter! Stepshep has also proposed sending an invite to everyone in Category:Wikipedians in Ohio with an invite to join the project. If you are already a member you would not receive the notice of course. Selected Article: Central Avenue Historic District (Dayton, Ohio) The Central Avenue Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located at 201 to 338 Central Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. It consists of late 19th and 20th Century Revival-style houses as well as late Victorian-style houses, which were all originally single-family residences. On December 16, 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Each month a new Ohio related stub is the selected article. Mahoning County?

OK, before I go offending people (including you), let me explain. I, too, am a Salem native, and--I must admit--the idea of my city being in two counties seems preposterous. However, I have very close relationships with the (present and former) county commissioners in Columbiana County, and can tell you unequivocally that Salem is NOT part of Mahoning County. I'm very sorry to prolong this discussion, and I hope you are not offended.

I know that this is mind-boggling and can confuse people (the page's history is testament to that), but it seems as if the difficulty almost stems from semantics. The Mahoning County GIS map--though glossy and helpful at first glance--does not clearly prove either of our points, as their legend denotes "city" and "village" boundaries in almost identical colors. That link has been removed from the citation, and I regret that I mistakenly cited it in the first place. However, Salem's own City Hall apparently deals with this question so frequently that they took it upon themselves to directly address it in their "F.A.Q.s (frequently asked questions)" page, which I have included as the appropriate citation. Wal-Mart seems to be a bit of a red herring, which is unfortunate.

I hope that the City of Salem's official stand on the situation will be the final word in our edits to this article, and when they change their official facts, then--of course--we should amend the entry accordingly. I hope that you will agree.

One other thing: I think that it was a bit uncalled for that you chastised my edits publicly--and somewhat sarcastically--in your edit summary. That could and should have been directed to me personally in a discussion (not as a sort of cruel fait accompli) on my talk page. Please contact me on my talk page with any further communication.

Hi there, fellow Salemite!

No offense taken at all, but more importantly I'm sorry if you are offended. Your source for removing Mahoning County seemed a bit arbitrary, and in fact did not (as you note) demonstrate that Salem is not in Mahoning County. Rather than chastise you, I was intending to draw your attention to an easily overlooked speck on the map in extreme southwestern Green Township. I myself had to zoom in several levels to really see it. There, I noticed that the Mahoning County GIS map does show that Salem has annexed a small plot of land (probably only amounting to a few acres) in Green Twp, Mahoning County. My edit summary was intended to communicate this in as few words as possible; I apologize that in the process I apparently sacrificed an amicable tone.

And yes, it was a shock to me as well when I first learned of it on that very article two years ago. Of course we Salemites learned in school all about how Perry Township was carved out of the South Range, and how the now-extant City of Salem was formed from Perry Twp.; and having learned this history, we can point with pride at our odd little notch of Columbiana County. (No sarcasm intended.) However, this quick history lesson-- and its summary reflected in the FAQ you cited-- doesn't address how Salem has in this decade annexed additional land outside Perry Twp; and, indeed, outside Columbiana County. By analogy, we can say that Youngstown is in Mahoning County and be factually correct, but this doesn't address the parts of Liberty Township in Trumbull County that Youngstown annexed a few years ago. I'll agree that a better source needs to be included if we are to state that Salem is in parts of Mahoning County, but I don't think we should rely solely on the City Hall FAQ as it's not meant to be that technical a source. (Looks skyward) I'm so sorry about the Salem census figures. I was looking at the 44460 ZIP code, as you presumed, and that would explain why almost all of the numbers were different! (I thought it was really strange as I made the edits, but now I can see why.) --That's what I get for editing with my proverbial eyes closed, I guess. . . . Anyway, good catch! In other news, Bert Dawson's office informs me that one can obtain a new Columbiana County map from them for only $2 . . . I know it won't necessarily solve the Mahoning/Columbiana county issue, but it might be nice to have the map on our page. Dola

Thanks for the comment :-) I never heard of the place until I was going through the now-deleted List of ZIP Codes in Ohio, creating stubs on all communities statewide with post offices, since Dola has one. The next time I was home, I spoke with a member of my church (in her 70s) who grew up in the Belle Center area and who has lived here for the last 10+ years, and she hadn't any idea of its existence. I knew where it was for the flight simply because I make careful use of the Ohio Atlas & Gazetteer, and because the pilot (my brother) was willing to take a little detour. John Freshwater had multiple disagreements with his superiors at the Mount Vernon City School District. Disagreements ranged from his views on evolution, intelligent design, and sharing of his Christian beliefs during school, as well as keeping a Bible on his desk. In 2008 he was accused of "branding" a student's arm with a cross as part of a class demonstration on electrostatic electricity. The students were not forced to participate, the mark lasted less than a week. The only evidence of the "branding" is a picture from the boy's parents who later sued the school and Freshwater, the school was aware of the accusation but did not consider it worth investigating at the time. That is why experts were unable to confirm anything other than it "looked like a burn".

The school later confronted Freshwater about his conduct, and Freshwater agreed to refrain from a repeat of these actions, except that he refused to remove the Bible from his desk. The school board then voted to dismiss Freshwater.

The primary problem with this edit is that it's unsourced: In other words, you provided no indication where you got this info so that it may be reviewed fairly. Because there is no source for this, a secondary problem arises in that the edit appears to be a defense of Freshwater, thus promoting a particular POV (namely Freshwater's) in the article. I reverted the previous addition because it was unsourced, and in a time like now I was imagining that no models were being produced or about to be produced, so any unreferenced statement that "_____ is produced at Lordstown" I thought plainly wrong. Re: Paper township

I'm going to revert the tag for now. I know that the paper township exists outside of Ohio but I can't find anything on it at the moment. There is a township called Ladoga in Wisconsin which is literally just a sign saying "Ladoga". It's so small that there isn't a Wikipedia article on it but I know there was once something there besides just a sign because there is a East Ladoga Cemetary (which was annexed into the city of Fond du Lac at some point). I apologize for not commenting on the talk page. I meant to but just got into my disamming thing and lost track of it.
