Travel warning

[edit]

I notice none of our medical articles have templates that say "We're not doctors and this is not medical advice", and none of our legal articles have templates that say "We're not lawyers and this is not legal advice". So I don't think you'd have much chance of getting an outback travel warning template up. Hesperian 00:37, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

If you look at Special:Contributions/MH_au, it seems he has been creating masses of similar articles, all linked to http://catholic-hierarchy.org/. And guess what? That website has Google advertising. I'm not saying its deliberate, as he has made lots of other useful contributions, but it does need further investigation. —Moondyne 07:05, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here are all the articles with links to catholic-hierarchy.org, all 1306 of them. I'm sure that the links in many cases are useful, but I will refer this one to the experts at WT:WPSPAM. —Moondyne 07:14, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey alls well, Ill have look at what you resuested in a minute. Tomorrow I going for a walk along the trails in Ellis Brook Valley Reserve. What features would you liked photographed for trail pages, and Darling Scarp. Gnangarra 04:46, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gee I need a bullet, went there midday just to get good light in the quary, but must have touched the lense while taking photos during the walk there, ended with 30 pics with a central white/hot spot. I uploaded a image to Darling Scarp but will get back there and replace with something better in the next week or so. Oh and added another article to my watch list Gnangarra 12:24, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Guildford Grammar School Chapel

[edit]

How is this chapel special? why cant i have an article on the Aquinas College, Chapel? or why cant every school in the world with a chapel have a page on their chapel? what separates this one from all of the other school chapels? im confused. But why do that, when you could peer-review the AC page =P http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Peer_review/Aquinas_College%2C_Perth - if you are bored =P Smbarnzy 03:17, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Supercat

[edit]

A "supercategory" is the opposite to a "subcategory". I suppose I might have been clearer and referred to it as a "parent category". Category:Rivers of Western Australia was already in Category:Rivers of Australia, which was already in Category:Environment of Australia. So there was no need to put the first directly into the last. Hesperian 23:26, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty much. There is no need to put an article in a category if it is already in a subcategory of that category. For example, there is no need to put Chippers Leap in Category:Western Australia, because it is already in Category:Geography of Western Australia, which is a subcategory of Category:Western Australia. To put it another way, it is already in Category:Western Australia via another category. Hesperian 00:02, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for comments, could you be more specific

[edit]

Hi, Thanks for your comments. I get the impression I have done something wrong, so would appreciate more specific comments. As you are probably aware, climate change and global warming is a major topic in and for Australia and I am trying to do my bit to contribute to a better WP in that area in relation to Australia, as WP is decidedly US centric. Ecology is the study of the living things which exist in the Environment is my understanding, but I get the impression that this is a controversial view. Any guidance on my specific mistakes would be appreciated. dinghy 15:18, 22 February 2007 (UTC) PS, Love your picture of Sarah Island. Was in Macquarie Harbour a few years ago.[reply]

Agricultural regions

[edit]

Morning,

I can't say 1947 agricultural regionalisations interest me much at the moment. Perhaps I should be ashamed of that.

I would be surprised if there is a clear link between them and any modern regionalisations.

Not sure what you're asking. If you're asking how and when I prefer to receive these little tidbits of information you pass me, the answer is however and whenever you want. Talk page, email, crunk car, whatever. :-) I take 'em any way I can get 'em.

Sorry, I wasn't aware of WA project. I hadn't noticed it in the WikiProject Australia project page as law and government has been my focus. Yep, looks good. Too bad woodchipping is red; I've been seeing this quite a bit lately - articles of generic scope but importance only to Australia coming up red. Wish I could remember what the other recent example was.... Hesperian 05:16, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Pardon the intrusion, I did have a look around a while ago on the subject of woodchips (Don't click here, this is a redirect to something about wallpaper!?) and meant to start an article on it. I think this was during discussion about Great walk. A search reveals a mention a Gunns and a couple of other mentions regarding the threat to frogs and the like. Definitely worth an art. to explain the term to those outside Aus and the young'uns. On that subject, the practice is extant in S. America and SE asia also. Is there another word for it? Do you have some ideas how we might proceed? regards - Fred
My first message of the day was from a befuddled DanielT5 'neath a comment from your self. I did my best to explain. I'll start when I stop laughing, probably tomorrow. Bless you, there are now new neurosyntatic pathways humming away in my greyware. - Fred 07:31, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ellis Brook

[edit]

Is named after the first Police Officer killed while on duty 1834 near Pinjarra. The Brook drains off the western face of the scarp into the canning river. the southern side of the valley is the location of the nearest alleuvial gold find to Perth, since then they have mined clay and granite. And its below Victoria reservoir but not downstream, north of CSR/Readymix Quaries it accessible form the eastern end of Gosnells rd in the burb of Gosnells. Effects of global warming on Australia page completely rewritten - 40 references

[edit]

Effects of global warming on Australia page completely rewritten - 40 references The article now has over 40 referenced statements and is based largely on a report prepared by Australia's premier scientific research organisation the CSIRO. The referencing of the article now compares very favourably with most other articles I have looked at. The article has no POV. The report on which it is based was prepared for the Business Round Table. It ought not be deleted now, even if it should have been before. Could each person who has recommended deletion please review and reconsider your view. Thanks dinghy 07:10, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I moved the talk page header to the top of that page, where it belongs :S, hence the "header". i dont see what im doing wrong :S
  • Extract from Auronauth comment: "schools like Aquinas were not created in the 19th century" - that was my reply to his comment, to point out that it was technically established in 1894. I think that he is just trying to make it seem like i have a problem with GGS, which is infact false - i have always acted in good faith - i even gave him some references, and did some minor edits on the article. People have made it seem like i have a problem with other PSA Schools, when in fact, i have done alot of work on the Public Schools Association article and have done some minor work on other school articles like Wesley, Scotch, and other PSA Schools, i even created some templates that applied to other schools. Your repeated messages

[edit]

I have on my watchlist the three discussions of our project: noticeboard, portal talk and project talk, and noticed you'd sent three same messages to those three. I'm very glad to have your active discussion, but isn't it somewhat redundant? No offense please, but sometime I got confused to which talk page should I reply. — Indon (reply) — 09:36, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No need to apology, I think the three main purposes are a bit clear. The noticeboard is something about POV issues, new articles (by non-members), requests, etc. The project talk is for something really related to the project, standardizations, etc. and the portal talk is obviously for portal. However it might be sometimes confusing to choose between project or noticeboard messages, but I think choosing one of the two is good enough. — Indon (reply) — 11:56, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, I don't really disagree with your sentiment there; the "Recent terrorism in Indonesia" campaignbox is pretty pointless, as far as I'm concerned, because "recent" doesn't really define any sort of concrete scope, or imply that the events are really part of a sequence.

The practical issue here, though, is the question of how a nomination is presented. There's a difference between arguing that a campaignbox (or more than one) should be deleted because they're ugly/should be categories/etc. in general, and arguing that a campaignbox should be deleted because that particular campaignbox has some sort of major problem. The first approach is obviously going to provoke a lot more defensiveness on the part of MILHIST (which is the primary maintainer of the hundreds of campaignbox templates), because that reasoning could be applied to any of them; that's particularly true if the nomination actually happens to lump together military campaignboxes with non-military ones.

So I would suggest that, if the Indonesia project sees a problem with the Indonesia campaignbox that can't be solved by simply editing it, they should make a new nomination for just that campaignbox, and provide an explanation of what that problem is; I suspect the outcome will be markedly different from this sort of more haphazard nomination of several vaguely related templates at once. Withdrawing a tfd nom

[edit]

If you withdraw the tfd nom, as far as i know you can close it (but i am not 100% sure). What you do is put {{subst:tfd top}} '''Withdrawn my nom''' ~~~~ at the top and put {{subst:tfd bottom}} at the bottom. Hope this helps. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 13:50, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Damn, you're quick. It's an edit conflict :-), I was just finishing reading Chris' instruction. Thanks. — Indon (reply) — 14:14, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Consular assistance? Deletion? I'm not sure how this belongs in an encyclopedia. It is borderline travel advice. It's more like a definition and may of course vary from country to country. No refs. Merbabu 01:53, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SatuSuro. Are you an admin yet? I was thinking of nominating you. Thanks for the tip on further reading. Auroranorth 08:25, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Try for the Aikman book - it should be in the library... if you managed to get a look at a copy - let me know - and we can go through some of the issues that relate to the articles. Have a good long weekend! cheers SatuSuro 10:16, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
