James_Marsden
[edit]I edited the article James_Marsden because I felt that it was written in a bias way that portrayed the subject of a page in a more favorable light, specifically omitting negative details. I added in true, relevant but also negative details to portray a more honest and informative biography of the subject. In the future please discuss any reversals to my edits before you make them. Seifist 23:27, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- On reading it again, it looks OK. Thanks for taking it up with me. Jamesx12345 23:32, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Sandboarding
[edit]James, you said: "Hello, I'm Jamesx12345. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made with this edit to Sandboarding, because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Jamesx12345 21:27, 20 October 2013 (UTC)"
Please look at the edit you reverted. Clearly, I only removed duplication, as I said in my summary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eschnett (talk • contribs) 21:33, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
- You've made me feel silly now, as you are quite correct. 99.104.107.122 duplicated the content, and then Shadowillrule64 added a helpful comment ("Retarded Sport"). I undid that edit to what I thought was the correct version, and then you corrected me, leading me to revert you. It's now back to where it started, and you have been issued an apology. Sorry. If the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History at Harvard University and Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution, Stanford University isn't exceptional then what, exactly, is? You want stone tablets brought down from the mountaintop or something? 50.7.48.146 (talk) 15:22, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

- Given what you were doing to the article earlier, I wasn't inclined to agree, but you have now made some worthwhile changes. If you know what a comma splice is, why are you vandalising Wikipedia? :-) Jamesx12345 18:21, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

[edit]I don't see how it's not constructive. Why is Baruch Goldstein listed as a mass murderer, but Samir Kuntar is not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.215.200.146 (talk) 17:42, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- To be honest, I'm not familiar with either case. The reason I reverted those edits is because we have to be very careful Biographies of living persons, as calling somebody a murderer could have far-reaching implications. Do tread carefully, and use sensitive language if it is not clear-cut. Regards. Jamesx12345 17:47, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- This is a joke, right? Literally the next sentence says, "participated in the murder and kidnapping of Israelis". The article itself confirms he was given numerous life sentences for the murder of a child. How is it an "implication" that he's a murderer when it's a blatant fact, corroborated by the article itself? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.215.200.146 (talk) 17:50, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Which is the exact edit(s) in question? I'm sure there was something about a political party as well. Jamesx12345 17:51, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- On top of that, you claim "calling someone a murderer could have far-reaching implications", so doesn't calling Baruch Goldstein a MASS murderer have even FARTHER reaching implications? Why do I smell a double standard here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.215.200.146 (talk) 17:53, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Let me see if I understand this: you are saying we shouldn't call people mass murderers because of the "far reaching implications", yet when I remove such a charged title for Baruch Goldstein, you revert it to say he was a MASS murderer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.215.200.146 (talk) 17:55, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not trying to be duplicitous here. If you think it improves the article to call him as such, it probably isn't controversial here. The implications I was referring to are those that come with incidents such as the Wikipedia biography controversy, which is a template example for BLP violations (the policy was obviously created in response.) [edit]Hi James. Just a word of genuinely friendly advice: if you continue to make rebuttals, however legitimately they may seem, there is a risk that you may scupper the very RfA you have promoted. SFWBC College
[edit]Why are you editing the Wikipedia page of Southeastern Free Will Baptist College? Much of your information is either wrong, or it is derogatory.

- Are you this person and this person? You might not know, but there is a very strict rule where 1 person has 1 account.
- I was just restoring content, without much regard to the actual content. I see now some of it is derogatory, but I'm afraid you were fixing it in the wrong way. Please add references to back up facts, for example whether it is now accredited or not. As a Dean of the College, you clearly have a conflict of interest, so be careful to be neutral or your edits will be reverted. Regards. Jamesx12345 17:34, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- James, that content should never have been restored wholesale, regardless of how the new editor was going about removing it. Please be careful, if someone is blanking a page calling the content defamatory, there's usually an issue that requires more finesse then a complete revert of their actions.--Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 18:19, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- I appreciate that now. That's why I left the edits by the IP in place and didn't file a report to SPI. I'm afraid I let the editors that reverted the removal of content on that page vet if for me; there are a number of trusted users there and there was no immediately obvious issue until SFWBCDean contacted me, for which I am grateful. Anyway, thanks for being so vigilant. Jamesx12345 19:35, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- Nobody is infallible, it's a good opportunity to remember that not all blanking is vandalism. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 19:56, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Huggle 3
[edit]Hey Jamesx12345! I am Petrb, one of core developers of Huggle, the antivandalism tool, which you are beta testing (according to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members#Beta_testers). I am happy to announce that Huggle 3 is ready for some testing. You can read more about it at WP:Huggle/Huggle3_Beta. Please keep in mind that this is a development version and it is not ready for regular use. That means you must:
- Watch your contribs - when anything happens you didn't want, fix it and report a bug
- Frequently checkout source code and build latest version, we change it a lot
If you find any problem with a feature that is supposed to work perfectly, please let us know. Some features are not ready yet, it is listed in known problems on Huggle3 beta page, you don't need to report these - we know it! So, that's it. Have fun testing and please let us know about any problems, either using bugzilla @ http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/ or #huggle connect. Please respond to my talk page, I am not going to watch your talk page. Thank you Petrb (talk) 10:57, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hi James, re this, please note that a 4th level revert by Huggle for addition of unsourced content is automatically categorised as vandalism, hence the message on their talk page. I have undone your revert. Hope you don't mind. Cheers - DVdm (talk) 18:33, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

The article Orwaldo's gablet has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I can find no evidence that this term is used anywhere but in Wikipedia. It does not appear in any of the online references listed in this article, nor can Google books find any instance of the words "Orwaldo" or "gablet" in the offline book source.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —David Eppstein (talk) 01:38, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Shah Safi of Persia
[edit]Hello Jamesex12345. I've changed Shahinshah of Persia to Shahinshah of Iran, as Iran is the right word for the country. Even if the two words are used in many cases, it's much more obvious to use the term "Iran" regarding the country and it's continuous history. Even if it was used to name this country "Persia" in western texts, as now "Iran" is widely used, it would be confusing to interchange them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.198.122.189 (talk) 21:30, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I don't know enough to appreciate whether they are fully synonymous or not. I've reverted myself as you clearly know more than I do :-) Thanks for taking it up with me. Jamesx12345 21:33, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
Stub contest
[edit]Hey James, thanks for joining the contest and getting stuck in - I am glad some folks are expanding stubs. Listen, both Old Man of Stoer and Edinburgh University Press are still on the small side to qualify as they need to be 1500 b "readable prose size" to qualify. Do you have the prose tool? I'll put them 'on hol' until they are big enough. Cheers, Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 20:03, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- Ok - I'll try and find a bit more for them. I don't have the prose tool, so they could well be under-size. I'd have to look quite hard to find much else, as I've trawled a lot to find what there is. Bizarrely, I can't find anything good for the birds on the Old Man, which is probably a significant aspect. Jamesx12345 20:07, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- See User:Dr pda/prosesize - this is very useful. Let me know if you need help with installing it. Cheers, Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 02:37, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2014 WikiCup!
[edit]Hello Jamesx12345, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition began on 1 January. There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! Dunrobin Castle
[edit]Hi James12345, well done on taking so many Scottish articles through GA recently! I have to admit to having looked at Falkirk Wheel, Dunrobin Castle and Old Man of Hoy with a vague notion of reviewing them - I only do GA reviews occasionally, usually if the subject interests me - but they were all picked up very quickly while I pontificated! One small question I have on Dunrobin Castle: in the second paragraph of the 'History' section, there is a sentence Robert the Bruce planted the Gordons at Huntly in Aberdeenshire, and they were created Earls of Huntly in 1445
. What does it mean by "planted the Gordons"? It's probably something that I'm totally misunderstanding! SagaciousPhil - Chat 10:37, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- I have to admit to taking the word "planted" from Grimble, who says "These were the Gordons, whom King Robert Bruce planted at Strathbogie in Aberdeenshire..." I took it to mean that he wanted to have an English-speaking family there, but the Clan Gordon article suggests they were supporters of his cause. Kim Traynor or Jonathan Oldenbuck would probably have something closer to the truth. Jamesx12345 19:02, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- I expect Grimble was just using a loose metaphor based on the idea that feudal kings purposefully placed supporters in specific areas, usually for strategic control. Perhaps he was thinking of how the previous occupant, an Atholl, had been 'uprooted', to use a plant metaphor, and his patrimony handed over to Adam Gordon. (The father had supported Bruce but the son's father-in-law was the murdered John Comyn, so he opposed Bruce.) According to Barrow "on the very eve of Bannockburn [Earl David] attacked the Scottish supply depot at Cambuskenneth Abbey, killing the officer in charge, Sir William of Airth, and many of his men, and carrying off stores of food". For this act of treachery his lands of Strathbogie were confiscated and granted to Sir Adam Gordon of Berwickshire; Barrow continues, "no doubt as part of the price of winning him over and also as reward for his part in delivering the Declaration of Arbroath to Pope John XXI and arguing the Scottish cause at the curia". I've amended the Clan Gordon page to show that Gordon switched his support for Edward I's claim to Bruce's claim to the Scottish crown. Kim Traynor | Talk 22:46, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- My thanks to both of you for such a fast response - my apologies for not noticing the replies earlier. I see the context it is used in now. SagaciousPhil - Chat 12:18, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Note to IP
[edit]I see that you left a message for the IP at User talk:75.172.88.65. However, if I follow the sequence correctly, you realized, after leaving a message, that the edit was correct. I'm struggling to find editors willing to work on wbb articles, so I am happy to see the contributions of this editor. Could I talk you into removing, reverting or clarifying your message to the IP, so they have a more positive experience?--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:31, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- Oops - I'm a bit out of practice with Huggle. I've left a note on their talk page explaining. Thanks for drawing this to my attention. Jamesx12345 18:49, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I had guessed it was an automatic or semi-automatic post by you; thanks for adding the note, I think it may help.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:31, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
WikiCup 2014 January newsletter
[edit]The 2014 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with, at time of writing, 138 participants. The is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2010. If you are yet to join the competition, don't worry- the judges have agreed to keep the signups open for a few more days. By a wide margin, our current leader is newcomer Godot13 (submissions), whose set of 14 featured pictures, the first FPs of the competition, was worth 490 points. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:
- 12george1 (submissions) and TropicalAnalystwx13 (submissions) were the first people to score, for the good article Tropical Storm Bret (1981) and its good article review respectively. 12george1 was also the first person to score in 2012 and 2013.
- Sven Manguard (submissions) scored the first ITN points for 2014 North American polar vortex.
- WonderBoy1998 (submissions) scored points for an early good topic, finishing off Wikipedia:Featured topics/She Wolf.
- TheAustinMan (submissions) scored the first bonus points of the competition, for his work on Typhoon Vera.
- Igordebraga (submissions) has scored the highest number of bonus points for a single article, for the high-importance Jurassic Park (film).
Featured articles, featured lists, featured topics and featured portals are yet to play a part in the competition. The judges have removed a number of submissions which were deemed ineligible. Typically, we aim to see work on a project, followed by a nomination, followed by promotion, this year. We apologise for any disappointment caused by our strict enforcement this year; we're aiming to keep the competition as fair as possible.
Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may be interested to take part in The Core Contest; unlike the WikiCup, The Core Contest is not about audited content, but, like the WikiCup, it is about article improvement; specifically, The Core Contest is about contribution to some of Wikipedia's most important article. Of course, any work done for The Core Contest, if it leads to a DYK, GA or FA, can earn WikiCup points.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
