My Request for Adminship
[edit]Thanks for your support on my successful Request for Adminship (final result 78 Support /0 Oppose / 1 Neutral) I have now been entrusted with the mop, bucket and keys. I will be slowly acclimating myself to my new tools over the next months. I am humbled by your kind support and would certainly welcome any feedback on my actions. Please do not hesitate to contact me. Once again, many thanks and happy new year! All the best, Asteriontalk 16:07, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your support
[edit]Thank you for your support in the RfA on my behalf. It is an honor to have received your expression of confidence. To be chosen as an administrator requires a high level of confidence by a broad section of the community. Although I received a great deal of support, at this time I do not hold the level of confidence required, and the RfA did not pass. It is my wish that I will continue to deserve your confidence. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 20:30, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
My Request for Adminship
[edit]Thank you for your strong support in my my RfA, which passed with a tally of 117/0/1. I hope that my conduct as an admin lives up to the somewhat flattering confidence the community has shown in me; and that your confidence is proven to be well placed! Please don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page should you need anything or want to discuss something with me.--Nilfanion (talk) 22:52, 9 January 2007 (UTC) |

Your VandalProof Application
[edit]Dear Extranet,
Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. --frothT 05:30, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

- Yes, the images on the navigation bar above seem to keep moving every time you load the page and then when you hover over the image, it puts itself back into place. I dont know whether this is just on my side of the computer, its just highly frustrating me. Examples of before and after on my screen can be viewed at:

My Bot Request
[edit]Thanks for your opinion on my Bot Request. As you stated, you didn't think that it would be a good idea. Then possibly what about a AIV alert bot that can work with a user's monobook.js and popup a message alerting a administrator when they access any page on Wikipedia, that action is required for a new AIV candidate that has recently been posted on WP:AIV with the the message either the bot or user has left about them and links to the offender's userpage, contribs and also for admins the block or warn tools? If not, is there any other bots that are needed in the WP:AIV area? Please give me an opinion on that. Many thanks, --Extranet (Talk | Contribs) 03:31, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- The problem with that is that no one would want that :-). There's too many AIV reports, and that script would basically mean a popup on every page. —Mets501 (talk) 03:41, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- Is there any other bots that you think I could suggest? I am a very enthusiastic Wikipedian and would like to run a bot for the community. --Extranet (Talk | Contribs) 03:55, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- There's plenty of stuff to do; check out Wikipedia:Bots for the currently running bots for a few ideas. —Mets501 (talk) 04:02, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Running a redundant copy of HBC AIV helperbot
[edit]This would certainly be of use to the community. I have a few questions:
- Does your computer stay running and connected to the internet most of the time
- What operating system do you use
- Do you have any understanding of the language perl
- Are you likely to be available withing a day or so to update the code as needed
These are not a list of requirements, but just information I would like to know. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 21:28, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- It is good that you are in Australia, as that means if this side of the planet gets destroyed, WP:AIV will still have it's bot... also, there will be an operator awake at most times. Looks good, once I am confident my bot works well with itself I will contact you with install instructions, and you can put an approval request for the username to be used, I think HBC AIV helperbot2 would be the least confusing. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 21:45, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've blocked this bot because it is malfunctioning.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 03:57, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- The bot was not malfunctioning, Ryūlóng unblocked it. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 04:11, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Small bug in bot
[edit]This edit[1] is caused by a small typo. I have fixed the code, could you please replace the script with the new content of new contents of User:HBC AIV helperbot/source. That should clear up the problem.
Regarding the intermittentcy of you internet connection, the bot will simple complain while it is not on the internet, then reactivate when it is on the internet. I think you can continue running it for now. If this is permnament problem, we should start looking for a machine online 24/7 with a similar timezone to yours to replace it. If this is just a temporary problem, then it is fine. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 15:07, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Forgive me for copy-and-pasting the same response that I've given to the last few editors who've asked :)
Right now, there are two specific positions I'm looking to fill:
- Features and admins- Compiling all the promoted administrators, articles, pictures, sounds, topics, portals, etc. It sounds like a tough job, but once you get the hang of it, it'll only take 20-30 minutes. See this week's Features and admins for an example of what you'd have to do.
- In the news- This position will take a little more time. It basically means following news stories about Wikipedia, and reporting on them (not just articles that cite Wikipedia, because there are too many of those to get anything useful). See this week's In the news for an example (although I'd really prefer the article to be longer than that, I had to publish a short version this week due to time).
However, what I'd really like most is a couple reporters to just fill in the cracks, reporting on things that don't fit into one of our features (things like Michael Snow's report on Wikipedia traffic from Google, and Sam Blacketer's report on the furor over Wikipedia:Wikipedia is failing). If they're big enough for a full story, they get one; if you can only make a paragraph's worth of copy out of it, you can move it into the News and notes report, which covers all the small stories. Most of these stories can be easily taken by reading Foundation-l and WikiEN-l mailing lists. Also, if I see a story worth covering, I'll leave a note in the newsroom about it, under "special stories". If you do decide that you want to write about a story, just make a note that you'll take care of that particular story.
All stories are due around 17:00 UTC every Monday. If you'd like to take a stab at it, that'd be great; let me know if you have any further questions, or if you need help with your story. I'm not around much on the weekends, but I'll try to keep an eye on my talk page. Ral315 » 07:58, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- Features and admins can be easily defined by looking at this week's issue. What you need to do is as follows:
- Administrators: Compile from Wikipedia:Successful adminship candidacies. Use the helpful {{goa}} template to save time using piped links, etc.
- Featured articles: Compile from Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Featured log.
- De-featured articles: Compile from Wikipedia:Featured article review.
- Featured lists: Compile from Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Featured log.
- De-featured lists: Check Wikipedia:Featured list removal candidates/archive to make sure that none have happened; for what it's worth, this hasn't happened in four months.
- Featured sounds: Compile from Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates/Featured log.
- Featured topics: Compile from Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Featured log.
- Featured portals: Compile from Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Featured log.
- De-featured portals: Check Wikipedia:Featured portal removal candidates just in case, but no portal has ever lost featured status, so this is unlikely.
- Today's featured article: Visit today's featured article, and grab all of the articles that were featured on the main page from Tuesday to Monday (for example, next week's issue, for Monday the 26th, would cover February 20 to February 26).
- Picture of the day: Visit picture of the day, and inline link all of the pictures (pipe them with the article that they're prominent on, like Acarina) that were picture of the day from Tuesday to Monday.
- Featured pictures: Visit the featured picture archive, and go through all of the pictures that were archived this week. Some were promoted, and some were not. You'll need to pay attention to that, as well as which version of a picture was promoted- sometimes, 3 or 4 edits of a picture are submitted for approval. Since they're not dated, you'll have to find the spot where you leave off every week (this week, start at the one after "common eggfly").
- That looks like a lot of work, but like I said, it only takes me about 20-30 minutes, because it's all right there for you. Let me know if you have any specific questions relating to this; whether you are able to do this or not, thanks a lot for volunteering. Ral315 » 20:26, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, it's yours for the taking. Post it in your userspace (User:Extranet/Features and admins or something), and add the link to the newsroom when you're done. It should be in by around 17:00 UTC on Monday. Ral315 » 06:27, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- One word to the wise- make sure before you finish publication that none of the "today's featured article" changed- occasionally, Raul654 will change out a FA a few days before it hits the main page. Otherwise, it looks good. Ral315 » 08:25, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
