Hadlow Down

Please do not mark articles as stubs when they are clearly above stub class, as you did at Hadlow Down. Mjroots (talk) 19:30, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

I am sorry as I have been a bit careless as I have not been checking the talk pages first. Thanks for reminding me. Jaguar (talk) 19:30, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
I had a look at Hadlow Down's talk page and it says that it is a stub class and you had only reverted the edit back to the previous stub template. I have removed the stub template and changed the article as a start class. Jaguar (talk) 19:35, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
No problem. Talk page assessments are only as good as the article when it was assessed. IMHO, there are more articles that should be upgraded than there are that should be downgraded. Mjroots (talk) 19:46, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll have a look at these and see if I can reassess them. Jaguar (talk) 20:18, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

WP Somerset in the Signpost

Copied from my talk page & the project talk page to ensure wide coverage.

"WikiProject Report" would like to focus on WikiProject Somerset for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Other editors will also have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day.— Rod talk 07:46, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

I had a look at this half an hour ago although I was unsure because nobody had written anything on there yet. I'll be happy to answer the questions. Jaguar (talk) 07:50, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Sussex geography stubs

Hi Jaguar - {{Sussex-geo-stub}} andf {{cl|Sussex geography stubs have been speedily deleted, as they are re-creations of a stub type which was deleted through WP:SFD. Please use the existing {{EastSussex-geo-stub}} or {{WestSussex-geo-stub}} (or both if necessary) for any articles you wish to mark. In future, if you wish to create a new stub type, please propose it first at WP:WSS/P, as explained at WP:STUB. That way, any proposal can be vetted prior to creation tio see whether it fits stub-sorting criteria or is already effectively covered by other stub types. Thanks, Grutness...wha? 13:48, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

I am very sorry for my mistake - I had not found out that the two templates had already been split which meant that I had foolishly created another deleted stub template! Thank you so much for deleting it for me, I will revert any actions I had done concerning the old stub templates on articles. Again, thanks! Jaguar (talk) 17:33, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
S'alright :) I think I've managed to catch most of the articles you added the new stub to. Grutness...wha? 22:28, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll see if I can find the rest of the articles I had done. Jaguar (talk) 10:24, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

New Ditch

As creator of New Ditch I wanted to draw your attention to my proposal to delete a large part of this article. Please see Talk:New Ditch. Thanks --Derek Andrews (talk) 18:06, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

That's absolutely fine, thanks for telling me. Jaguar (talk) 21:10, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

re User:Rodhullandemu and WikiProject:Wiltshire

I have reversed your edit with regard to the above, as Rodhullandemu is indefinitely blocked and not "banned" - it is possible the account may be allowed to edit again. I am sure you made a good faith error. I have edited the list of participants so it does not show Rh&e, but allowing it to be re-instated should circumstances change. Cheers, LessHeard vanU (talk) 01:19, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting my mistake. I had an eye out on the debate concerning Rodhullandemu and looking at the block log it seemed to me that his Wiltshire-editing seemed impossible. Thanks a lot for your change. Jaguar (talk) 09:50, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm sorry but looking back on that edit I won't stand for that. Don't you think that actually removing the edit summary was a bit... well... let's say 'abusing sysop powers'? Jaguar (talk) 20:06, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

The people editing Operation Odyssey Dawn

Says that British forces are under US Command http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Operation_Odyssey_Dawn#UK_forces_restored_to_Deployed_forces_section_according_to_policy_WP:Verifiability. I don't argree. But in their spirit, i proposed deletion of Operation Ellamy. Will you hlep counter argue back? Now they have listed UK forces under US command.Other dictionaries are better (talk) 16:00, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

I started Operation Ellamy thirty minutes after it was announced on the news. It was the first of the Libyan Operations on Wikipedia (although that's not a strong point). Operation Ellamy is fully sourced and fully compatable with WP:Verifiability. I don't see why it needs deleting in my honest opinion. Jaguar (talk) 16:03, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Request your opinion

Hello. I would like your opinion on a sentence of policy. The sentence that I would like your opinion on is the first sentence of Wikipedia:Verifiability which states,

"The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth: whether readers can check that material in Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true."

In your own words, what does this sentence mean? Please note that this is not meant to be the start of any kind of debate with you and I am only honestly interested in your opinion. I will look here on your talk page for your response. Thank you. 75.47.147.95 (talk) 10:23, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Nailsea GAC

Hi, Will you have a chance to respond to the latest comments on Talk:Nailsea/GA1 in the sport section or would you like me to tackle them as we may run out of time soon?— Rod talk 19:24, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

I'll be happy to respond to them right away. I'm sorry that I have not been on Wikipedia for some time as I have been revising so hard that I have forgotton how to stand up. Anyway, I'll have a look at them right now and see what I can do. Best, Jaguar (talk) 20:24, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
I have a feeling that the failure of Nailsea's GA was all my fault? I'll see if I can completely re-write the Sports section and to make a good job done I will see if I can create the page Sport in Nailsea. Jaguar (talk) 16:51, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
The sports section is certainly improved. I'd be happy for you to renominate it at GAC & I'll help out where I can with dealing with any issues.— Rod talk 07:03, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Well done for the extra work & congratulations - its just been passed.— Rod talk 19:15, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Does this mean I can put a small green circle on my user page? :-D Jaguar (talk) 20:26, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
You can put whatever you like on your user page :-) but each of the green circles on mine represents an article I've significantly helped to GA.— Rod talk 20:39, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll try if I can sort out something! Jaguar (talk) 20:54, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Winchester PR

I think you can safely loose Winchester from the sub heads - the article is unlikely to discuss any other cathedral, castle etc. As the MOS puts it "Headings should not explicitly refer to the subject of the article, or to higher-level headings, unless doing so is shorter or clearer (... headings can be assumed to be about the subject unless otherwise indicated)." Let me know if there is anything else.— Rod talk 08:07, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Jaguar. You seem to have been a major contributor to the article on Weston Patrick, so I am hoping you can help. I have marked up a citation request for the statement that there is a detached portion of the parish. This is not shown on the map at Ordnance Survey Election Maps (you need to turn on the civil parish layer), and appears to suggest that the boundaries have been changed, and that this is no longer the case. Do you know the answer? Skinsmoke (talk) 16:03, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. The reference which gave the parish is from the Hampshire Board of Agriculture - a company that gave out the acreages of parishes in South East England that no longer exists. The reference on the detached portion of the parish came from 1905, so I think that it might have changed since then! You can see the full history here but the stuff on British History is very dated. And I must admit, back in June 2010 I was very inexperienced on using citations on Wikipedia. But the parish boundaries have changed since then and looking on the civil parish maps there certainly is no detatched portion. I know the local area quite well and there has actually been some rearranging in the past few years. I have removed the sentence saying that there was a detatched portion of the parish. Thanks, Jaguar (talk) 19:10, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for sorting that out. Took me a while to get my head round citations, too! Skinsmoke (talk) 08:04, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Mario 3DS

I noticed you made the article Super Mario Bros 3DS. However, isn't that same game as in the article Super Mario (Nintendo 3DS)? Or are they different? I just hadn't heard anything about a separate game in all the E3 coverage, and your sources weren't loading for me. Let me know. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 18:47, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

I understand your concern. The game was released at E3 2011 just a couple of days ago - since then there have been an explosion of sources by various magazines and game developers such as the UK.IGN one, A Video Game blog one, and yet another. I understand that the game can be easily mixed with Super Mario 3D, however they are separate. The game lies in the Super Mario Bros. series and there has been loads of new sources just released a couple of days ago. Regards Jaguar (talk) 18:51, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
The links you just provided me actually show that they are in fact the same game. I asked around and other confirmed my suspicion as well. See this Sergecross73 msg me 19:31, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Heads-Up

Just a quick note to let you know there is now a userbox for the South Sudan WikiProject. Feel free to add it to your user page if you wish. CycloneGU (talk) 17:12, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, I'll add it. Jaguar (talk) 17:50, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Winchfield Green, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Moreover, please add more verifiable sources, not only 3rd party sources. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Jahahn (gab) 05:48, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

That was a bit strange? Jaguar (talk) 11:55, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Kennet and Avon Canal at FAC

Thanks for your comments about the Kennet and Avon Canal at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Kennet and Avon Canal/archive2. I believe they have been addressed and it would be great if you had time to take another look.— Rod talk 12:14, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

I've never done a review at FAC before. I'll find some more sentences that will need copy editing as quickly as I can but do give a support comment as a conclusion? Regards, Jaguar (talk) 13:39, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
If you feel it meets the FA criteria the normal practice is to add a support (in bold) - see what Jezhotwells has done higher up. But of course it has to be your decision & I wouldn't want this to be seen as canvassing.— Rod talk 13:41, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
No, of course! I'll support it! But first I feel that there a couple of things that need to be done in the article; I'm addressing them now. Jaguar (talk) 13:43, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the ce. I'll look at the issues you are raising, but I think you deleted a support from Reaper Eternal with your last edit ? edit conflict.— Rod talk 14:12, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Aarrggh! I just removed a support by accident! That's not good. I've just restored it. Jaguar (talk) 14:15, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
I will give a support once those issues have been addressed. Thanks, Jaguar (talk) 14:27, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

List of castles in Somerset

Thanks for the message. I'm not aware of any background paragraph for the articles linked from List of castles in Somerset. It might be worth looking at those listed at List of castles in England for other counties. I know Locking Castle needs doing, but I'm not sure about Castle Orchard or Downend Castle which are the other redlinks. I would suggest starting this discussion on the talk page as others such as User:Hchc2009, who specialises in castles, might have useful ideas.— Rod talk 09:15, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Having done a bit more checking (eg this) Castle Orchard appears to be in Wilts. I'me still trying to identify Downend Castle.— Rod talk 10:49, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

King's Castle, Somerset

Thanks for your help with King's Castle, Somerset (& other Somerset Castles) however could you take a look at King's Castle & my comment on the talk page re a mismatch between the coordinates & the refs - I think we have 2 Kings Castles in Somerset & they have got mixed.— Rod talk 14:36, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I think I have found the problem. The details of it is on Talk:King's Castle, Somerset. I think we may be getting confused with a castle and hill fort with the same name. Jaguar (talk) 14:53, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your help

Thanks
Thank you for your help with the review of the Kennet and Avon Canal at FAC, which has just been promoted. — Rod talk 14:46, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Does this mean I can put a little gold star on my user page? Only joking. Jaguar (talk) 14:53, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
