Photography
[edit]Thanks very much for User:JVinocur/Images. I have already added several of them to Claes Oldenburg, National Constitution Center, Boathouse Row, Schuylkill River, Philadelphia City Hall and Curse of Billy Penn.Spikebrennan 19:22, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome! I love uploading photos; it feels like a much greater contribution than the same amount of time put into writing new text. And if I go out to take new photos, I get some exercise out of it as well! -- JVinocur 22:47, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Nice pic of the new CHOP facade, which is so much nicer than the old dingy brown. I shouldn't even point this out, but none of the new bright color highlights show in the photo. I realize most of them are behind the glass, but they are attractively visible in the morning walking up from the Univ City station. Not photographable? alteripse 21:40, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- No, I'm glad you mention it. You remind me that I purposefully underexposed that shot to keep the sky from being completely washed out, and then forgot to compensate in post-processing. I just took a stab at fixing it, let me know if you like the CHOP page better now. Or maybe I overdid it? The glass really does have a greenish tinge, so perhaps it's okay...and maybe I can try for a morning shot one of these days (that was an afternoon when I just happened to have my camera). -- JVinocur 22:47, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks! I'm moving away soon, so there won't be too many more of Philly, but I'll upload anything else that looks promising. -- JVinocur 22:47, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Very nice picture of Keith Urban at Live 8. I Noticed it because it happens to display my name quite prominatley on the scrolling message bar above it. Made me pretty excited when I saw it and it is now my desktop picture. All your pictures of Philly are great, thanks for making the city look good. -- onechordwonder

[edit]- Other half of conversation at User talk:Jgera5#Image:Future I-376 Corridor.jpg.
Well, I didn't realize how bad the shot was until after I was home. I probably need to use my parents digital camera instead of my brother's the next time I have the chance. I tried touching it up, too, but that's how the image came out. If you live near 60 with one of these signs, feel free to take another pic. Thanks. Jgera5 00:28, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

User: ParelelUni - Talk Page
[edit]- Regarding my ongoing attempt to engage User:ParalelUni in conversation; my half of the conversation is available only via history (see [1], [2], [3], [4]) as each comment is deleted without reply.
It only seems appropriate that I should be able to edit my talk page however I see fit as long as it does not involve any offensive or inappropriate material. It does directly involve my user afterall.
If I am not allowed to ever edit my own talk page, then please just delete my user. I am not interested in being a member of any site that does not allow an individual to edit the pages that are directly related to their user. It is just utter nonsense.Spikey 07:33, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for replying. I'm sorry you're feeling frustrated by this, and do not intend to drive you away from the Wikipedia. Judging by your work on St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine, I suspect you have to potential to be a valuable contributor to our collective endeavor. However, this is a social endeavor, and for it to succeed, users have to work together, obeying certain standards of behavior. You can read more about this at Help:Contents/Policies and guidelines#Working with others.
- Regarding the issue at hand, no, you really shouldn't just delete questions you don't want to reply to, even if they're on your own talk page (see Wikipedia:Removing warnings#Can I do whatever I want to my own user talk page?). You've made a habit of deleting discussion, questions, and warnings, both on your own talk page and elsewhere, without good cause (and without even an edit summary for justification). I hope that reading some of the articles linked to above will help you understand how this behavior is not in the best interest of the project as a whole. I also hope that this small disagreement does not become a reason for you to quit Wikipedia in a huff...we'd much rather you make the effort to participate in a more useful way. — JVinocur (talk • contribs) 22:48, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Boathouse Row
[edit]- Regarding Boathouse Row, Image:P6130100.JPG (taken and uploaded by MBob) and Image:12.BoathouseRow2-R.KennedyG.jpg (uploaded by NoseNuggets).
Thanks for all of the help on the picture I took of Boathouse Row, seeing as how that was my first picture uploaded onto Wikipedia and it was not of the best quality to begin with I really appreciate all of the work you did formatting the picture to make it look so much better. MBob 02:22, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- No problem at all. I had hoped to get a shot like that, but never found the opportunity. A few quick words of advice, if I may? (1) Consider uploading images to Commons whenever licensing permits, to make them more widely available. (2) Don't worry about the cropping and polishing much, since that's easy for you or others to do as a revision. (3) But do remember to name your photos well on the upload form, since that's the one thing that's a little harder to change later. — JVinocur (talk • contribs) 02:35, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
The photo I uploaded is a current photo of Boathouse Row at dusk, and reflects the current lighting system in use, as per the gophila.com web site and Rusty Kennedy photo. The older photo that was put back in the re-edit was prior to the change in 2005. I was merely updating the item in question. Also, "Kelly Drive" was pointed out as "formerly known as East River Drive" before the name change much in the same way "Martin Luther King Drive" was known as "West River Drive" before 2005. NoseNuggets 12:00 AM June 15 2006
- Okay, please Stay Cool. There are several separate issues at play here:
- Which image do we prefer? Certainly the image you uploaded is much prettier, and would be a lovely addition to the Wikipedia.
- Can we use an unfree image whenver we want? No. Even though we like the pretty image, it is copyrighted by someone else, and does not meet the criteria for fair use. So either you have to (a) contact the copyright owner and get it released under a free license, (b) take a similar photo yourself, or (c) use some other available photo. For the time being, I think only (c) is an option -- but if you can do (a) or (b), that would be great.
- What level of detail belongs in the text of the article? All the comments you added (about the old name of Kelly Drive, his relation to Princess Grace, etc) are absolutely true. However, they really do not have any relevance to an article about Boathouse Row -- and we already link to article where those facts are easily available for anyone curious. So I think it's best to avoid duplicating them and cluttering up the Boathouse Row article.
- I hope you'll discuss further rather than simply revert my edits again. — JVinocur (talk • contribs) 12:13, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- In response to the photo, A) No comment. B) I can't do one because I don't have a digital camera that isn't a toy. My mom won one in a contest, but foolishly gave it to my brother. She said that they have more opportunities to take pictures with their kids. Can you say "lame cheapskate comment?" C) I cannot find another picture with the current look. The current photo on the page is severly outdated and was taken before the LEDs were installed.
- As for the detail on the text: The address is important. Before 1984, no one knew where Kelly Drive was. It was East River Drive. End of story.
- I do not want any more editing wars on this subject, please. We either accept the picture as is or drop the outdated photo no questions asked. NoseNuggets 12:17 AM US EDT June 20 2006
- Well, inability to find/take a substitute picture does not make it valid fair use. Keep in mind that it is illegal to use a copyrighted image outside of certain clearly defined cases, and as far as I can tell this doesn't meet the criteria -- no matter how nice the photo is. (Incidentally, MBob just took the photo this month, so it is with the new LEDs. I guess they just weren't using the colors that night.)
- And as for the Kelly Drive naming...I don't understand why you think that is relevant to this article. Anyone who isn't familiar with the term Kelly Drive can follow the link to a page where it is explained. I absolutely think that the previous name belongs somewhere in the Wikipedia, but it has only tangential relevance to this page. The wonderful think about a wiki is that information like that can be put where it belongs, but still be accessible to the interested reader simply by clicking a link. — JVinocur (talk • contribs) 23:56, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Regarding your move request: Images can't be moved. You have to re-upload them. —Nightstallion (?) 12:29, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Re: Bariatric Surgery vs Bariatrics
[edit]- Regarding the conversation at User talk:Wouterstomp#Thanks for the Welcome.
I think there's no doubt the sections should be split into separate topics, and I noticed too that they were recently merged, which was a mistake. However, in order to split them, it will require a rewrite of a whole new section on bariatric medicine, which gets short shrift on the current page. As a bariatric surgeon, I'm less than a strong believer in the alternative field, and probably not knowledgeable enough to write more than a basic starter page. I'm also very new at editing, and not sure how to go about splitting the pages. Topnife 15:49, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well, User talk:Wouterstomp#Thanks for the Welcome is a strange place for this conversation, but it started there, so might as well finish it there. — JVinocur (talk • contribs) 21:24, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Look. I don't know what your problem is, nor do I care, but stop stalking me. You keep watching my user talk page, reverting it, leaving comments. Enough. Go away and leave me alone. Freak. Spike 03:04, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- (1) Relax, dude. (2) I barely care what you do, except that I noticed you trying to get another user in trouble, and was curious if you had improved your own behavior enough for such activity...I'm impressed you think that reading a page called "noticeboard" qualifies as stalking, though. (3) The same Wikipedia rules apply to you as everyone else. You can't delete warnings left on your talk page. Especially not if you're going to report other users for receiving the identical warning! — JVinocur (talk • contribs) 09:32, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Cardiac Arrythmias
[edit]- Regarding a reversion I made to Cardiac arrhythmia and the corresponding comment...
I tried to change "the ventricles of the heart experiences" to "the ventricles of the heart experience," but it seems you didn't like the grammatical change of making the singular verb agree with the plural subject. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.242.9.187 (talk • contribs)
- Oh whoops, I see now! I was looking at the raw wiki markup, and I read "[[left ventricle|ventricles]]" as singular instead of plural. Odd editing behaviour at Babesia article
[edit]Hi. I note that you have made some substantive contributions to the Babesiosis article. The related Babesia page has been heavily edited by a temporary account (‘Nmunabi’) who apparently has knowledge of the subject. (I am not an expert in this area.) Yet he/she destroyed all the wikilinks and all the inline references. I don’t understand why. I reconstructed the references before realizing quite what had happened. So my question to you is, were this guy’s edits useful, or vandalism? What was he up to?
Appreciate your insight at Talk:Babesia. Earthlyreason (talk) 06:09, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
