Mersin

I have re-written some sections, but some statements need to be verified. I do not understand why "we need" that forum thread there. They are not considered as "sources" (let alone reliable ones). This aside, from a very brief inspection, it looks like a nationalist board (e.g. use of wolves and other politically charged avatars) but I can not tell for sure, since I do not speak Turkish. I am not implying anything about you, your political ideas and/or character but, if I were you, I would stay away from those places. Kind regards --Zippocar 10:07, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merhaba from Bosnia

[edit]

Merhaba Istanbuljohnm. I saw your user page, your interests and decided to introduce myself. I come from Bosnia and I would like to write articles about military past of the Balkans, war crimes commited there etc, because I realized that current articles about the subject are not even 1% of the whole perspective. And there are so many edit wars between Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, Albanians and other people from the Balkans which destroyed the point of encyclopedia. Many of them are just here because of their nationalistic sentiment. There are not many Bosnian useres here who surrvived the genocide in 1995, so I will try to fill that gap writing relaible articles well sourced and documented, but unfortunately English is not my mother tongue. I saw you speak English fluently. And I have to admit that I am afraid to make mistakes when I write (alhough I perfectly understand English, I learned it at school). So I came here to ask for help. When I finish some of those articles, could you read some of them to correct grammar mistakes? If you have time of course for that. Feel free to correct me, anytime not just in the articles, but here in talk pages. Best regards. The Dragon of Bosnia 13:24, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thank you very much. I will try to provide all sources in English (ICTY judgements about crimes against humanity, genocide and war crimes against Bosniaks that are not presented here - there are hundreds of massacres confirmed by International Courte, which means they are not propaganda, so I will try to write something). The Dragon of Bosnia 16:52, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ordu - name

[edit]

you say they got the name from Kotyora..here it says it's from the word "Ordu" meaning army.

http://www.helleniccomserve.com/kotyora.html (from a greek book, i'd imagine greeks would take credit for the name it was from a greek word)

why did you think it's from "kotyora"? --152.216.7.5 13:35, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. the town was called Kotyora, before it was called Ordu, and Ordu sounds like a simplified pronunciation and spelling of the earlier word. Of course it could be that there was an Ottoman army camp here too giving additional relevance to the new variation also. Istanbuljohnm 00:51, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar check

[edit]

Hi Istanbuljohnm. I wrote an article: Foča massacres, so if you have some time, just take a look there, to check if there are some grammar mistakes. Merhaba. The Dragon of Bosnia 23:46, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

Please read WP:VANDAL. Reverting an article back to the version that was passed on Wikipedia:Featured Article Candidates, as I did with Cameroon, is hardly vandalism. As for your proposed changes, I would be happy to discuss them at Talk:Cameroon. But please don't go about throwing accusations of vandalism willy-nilly. That's a serious charge, and one I am in no way guilty of. Thanks, — Amcaja (talk) 01:46, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unecyclopedic wording

[edit]

since ur a native speaker of english, i'll keep this short. i already left a notice to user 88.241.242.61 about his/her use of the word "you". both of u used that word (and its other forms) in the "Didim" article. ur grammer/style is okay, but if u'r familiar with encylopedias, u should know that they're not written in the second person. they're third-person and objective. i made appropriate changes to that article. i just wanted to make sure u dont use "you" in further articles, as is indicated in wiki's "Manual of Style". (i recognize the pseudo-irony of me repeating "u" in this comment). Ivansevil (talk) 00:42, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

without checking I guess it must nearly a year ago that I wrote the Didim article so you certainly take your time in editing!!! but then if you're analysing every pronoun it's perhaps not surprising. Bravo for your diligence. Keep up the good work Istanbuljohnm (talk) 18:36, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article List of people accused by Mohammed Fayed of being involved in the death of Princess Diana, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Turkish Armed Forces

Dear Istanbuljohnm, I'm a member of WP:MILHIST trying to do some research on the structure of the Turkish Armed Forces. I've looked through the English webpages but I know the Turkish webpages have much more information available. A tag has been placed on Keletigui Et Ses Tambourinis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Ecozone categories

[edit]

I would recommend you stop adding Australasia categories to Indonesia articles until there is an agreement on suitability. Adding it to many articles won’t actually help your case. --Merbabu (talk) 04:21, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - to be honest I wasn't targetting Indonesia in any specific way, and I'm certainly mot making any kind of political point, which I'm guessing is your objection to the categorisation. I'm just adding information about flora and fauna to a number of articles about places in the WWF Australasia ecozone [[1]]. Many of these are in Indonesia, but I'll use the Australasia (ecozone) category to group them. Hope you are OK with this Istanbuljohnm (talk) 04:28, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It’s not about politics – and as for your incorrect guess on categorisation, I’ve made my objection plainly obvious – Buru and other islands in the area are not in Australasia. You yourself have acknowledged this. As for Category:Australasia (ecozone) and the article of the same name, there is no verification of this or referencing. Thus, my objection is on incorrect categorisation and no referencing. The solution for both should be removal. --Merbabu (talk) 04:32, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies

[edit]

Sometimes some terms in both category and mainspace wikipedia are really problematic - a good example is an editor who might put asia for philipino volcanoes - it is a misuse of categories - as philipino or southeast asia categories are in fact the appropriate usage - and the problem is you are focusing on buru - better in the end to leave the categories alone and find the WP:RS (and if it is easy to do - find more than one as a back up as well)- which really in the end are the far more important item for any additional material - when you step into 'over-arching' larger categories for smaller locations - you are asking or trouble - unless you come across a good WP:RS that verifies and confirms the usage. Please feel free to ask for further confimation of this issue - it may seem at times a perplexing placee - it is (wikipedia that is) SatuSuro 00:44, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Swan coastal plain

[edit]

Protected areas of the plain include John Forrest, Gooseberry Hill, Greenmount, Kalamuda and Lesmurdie Falls National Parks all of which are closely bunched together about 22km east of Perth. - plain? - they are all on the Darling Scarp and cannot be considered to be the same as the sand flat (as I call it) - on the plain - they are reserves on the granite and laterite - what you might be considering if you are concerned to show examples of sand plain reserves are:

The articles like the reserves are a very motley crew - but they are on the sand flat - please do not re-insert scarp arts onto the sandplain article!!! Actually the recent lake articles by User:Maias (found in the Swan Coastal Plain category) are by far the best articles yet on the subject to date...

also a closer look at Category:Swan_Coastal_Plain and Protected areas of Western Australia there are probably some reserves I havent mentioned - cheers SatuSuro 14:10, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well - they really are weird and wonderful bunch - and the Perth parks category is one thing, and the recent maias created lakes are another, but a more thorough understanding of the coastal plain residual vegetation reserves is another again and no one has tackled that yet - also if a close inspection of DEC site is made one can find http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/content/view/5317/1556/ and http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/content/view/5753/1755/ and probably the most pertinent is http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/content/category/45/879/1629/ - as most of the remnant bushland sites are not necessarily full blown parks :( SatuSuro 14:39, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mississippi Lowland Forests

Hey, I wanted to discuss a couple minor issues on Mississippi lowland forests. The term woodland often carries its own more technical meaning than how it is used in the article. Additionally, I am a little uncomfortable with the terms unspoilt to describe places like Mingo National Wildlife Refuge which has canals running through it. The remaining forested areas are referred to as the "swampiest." Is there an more precise way we could describe this? I appreciate your contributions and look forward to hearing from you. I'm working on a biography of a professor in Florida, who is a native of Turkey, and also sometimes a visiting professor there. Trouble being, of course, that I don't speak Turkish myself. The article was in draftspace, but has just recently been moved to mainspace, please see Turhan Nejat Veziroğlu and the talkpage thereof. Thanks, 75.108.94.227 (talk) 17:11, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. I was wondering if you'd be interested in setting up Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey), based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). Now it's not a contest in itself, it's designed to motivate people to inspire others to improve content and build something which demonstrates the hard work going into the country which is visible. The focus is more on quality improvements but new articles are welcome too. Eventually a Turkish National Contest could be created to fuel it, like Wikipedia:Awaken the Dragon, in which contestants can choose to keep the Amazon vouchers themselves to buy their own books for more articles or put them into book fund to help editors further improve Turkish-related topics by giving them the books they want. It will begin though as purely an improvement drive. If interested, or you think anybody else might be interested, alert them and sign up on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Turkey talk page at the bottom. Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 14:12, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:53, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Adese

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Adese requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Carolina Shout moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Carolina Shout, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. TheWikiholic (talk) 07:47, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: Carolina Shout has been accepted

[edit]
Carolina Shout, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions.

The article has been assessed as Stub-Class, which is recorded on its talk page. It is commonplace for new articles to start out as stubs and then attain higher grades as they develop over time. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

Since you have made at least 10 edits over more than four days, you can now create articles yourself without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for creation if you prefer.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the help desk. Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself without posting a request to Articles for creation.

If you would like to help us improve this process, please consider leaving us some feedback.

Thanks again, and happy editing!
