Nice job!

[edit]

Your talk page is so clean I feel bad mucking it up. I just want to say you have been doing a real nice job with the chemistry articles and in the science question reference desk. Just a compliment. Cheers! Sifaka 02:04, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! :) Isopropyl 02:27, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cooking dungeness crab

[edit]

Thanks for deleting my cooking instructions off of the Dungeness crab page. I thought they were appropriate at the time, but after reading WP:NOT (thanks for including the link), I agree that you were correct to delete them. Travisl 04:51, 1 May 2006 (UTC) (still learning!)[reply]

Yup. The instructions look like they could probably find a good home at Wikibooks somewhere, perhaps at the recipes section. Good luck! Isopropyl 05:13, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GO WHARTON

[edit]

You might want to take a look at the last (long) exchange on User_talk:Dpbsmith#Result_of_Disagreement between me and GO WHARTON. The context is that he'd been blanking MBAguy's comment on Talk pages, and in one case blanking unimportant but legitimate stuff, too, and I reverted and told him not to do it. Two points here: you might be interested in helping to encourage GO WHARTON; and, as I said to GO WHARTON there's scope for disagreement on how some of MBAguy's comments about GO WHARTON should be handled. I wouldn't mind having you add any suitable comments.

The pages I reverted were Talk:S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management and Talk:Tuck School of Business. I mostly didn't like the idea of someone trying to rearrange history following someone else's apparent departure. Dpbsmith (talk) 18:10, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Isopropyl, I agree with most of what Dpbsmith said in our discussion on his talk page and in his comment above. Just want to make a few things clear. His reference to my "in one case blanking unimportant but legitimate stuff" was unintentional on my part, and I believe Dpbsmith will agree. Although I understand Dpbsmith's concern, I'm not trying to "rearrange history." Before he stormed out, MBAguy went overboard in distributing about 10-20 messages throughout wikipedia calling me a "sockpuppet" for other schools or other users, I don't remember now his specific wording. He distributed that insult in his RfC, article discussion pages, user talk pages, in lots of places. That stuff has no place on wikipedia and should be permanently deleted by admins since it assumes bad faith on the part of other wikipedia users. GO WHARTON 17:34, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"The deletion of unimportant but legitimate stuff" was IMHO obviously accidental. Sorry I didn't make that clear.
I don't know where we're going with this, but for the sake of discussion: is this an accurate summary of MBAguy's remarks: MBAguy speculated that GO WHARTON might be a Yale School of Management student who was a) trying to enhance Yale SOM's status by emphasizing its Ivy League connection, and b) using a misleading account name to disguise his motivation. Dpbsmith (talk) 18:02, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's one of them. MBAguy, in a number of other wikipedia pages, also alternatively accused me of being a sockpuppet for and student at Cornell's Johnson School of Management or the Tuck School at Dartmouth, what MBAguy liked to call "lesser" schools. MBAguy said in one discussion page that he is a student at a "top (non-ivy) school." He used similarly accusatory language in his edit descriptions for the Wharton and Harvard University articles, saying in his edit descriptions that students are "embarrassing" themselves and their schools. MBAguy assumes bad faith on the part of other wikipedia users. I don't know where this is going either. Say we just drop it? GO WHARTON 18:41, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that we should drop it. Just to make things clear, I want to summarize my one point: if you're involved in a conflict with another user, stop and try to talk it out. Isopropyl 20:25, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GEC & use of business template

[edit]

Hi. There seems to be a convention that the template is not used for defunct companies. The template has too many "current" parameters, if you know what I mean. I've often thought a dedicated infobox for defunct companies would be useful though. Regards --Mark83 09:27, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's a great idea. If you were interested in creating such a template, the current business template should be a pretty good starting point. Isopropyl 12:47, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why

[edit]

I went to Taloyoak, Nunavut in 1974 with the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) (now the North West Company) from Scotland and after a year I was transferred to Ulukhaktok, Northwest Territories where I got married and stayed for 20 years. We then moved to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut in 1995 and I've lived here ever since. I don't work for the Company anymore but I now work at the local airport doing weather observations and talk to aircraft. I've done that since 1978. In those days the HBC had a tradition of hiring from Scotland. Also it paid better than equivalent jobs in Scotland but less than other jobs in the North. Don't like much change I guess but I do like living in the Arctic. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 01:17, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's pretty cool. Have you left the Arctic since you arrived? Isopropyl 01:22, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Only for the odd holiday. And I once went for about six months training in Cornwall, Ontario. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 06:41, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

my name

Indeed it is! Thanks for noticing -- Malepheasant 03:15, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How to respond to combative user Gekko

[edit]

Hi. User Gekko just put what he called a "Warning" section on my user talk page calling me a troll and sockpuppet among other personal accusations, the same personal tactic MBAguy used. Gekko did this today, even though I asked Gekko several times, on Dpbsmith's talk page, to please drop the AfD issue, as the admins have suggested: get over it, and move on. Gekko refuses to drop it, and now seems to be quickly escalating his personal campaign to the next level. This seems to be another MBAguy type situation all over again. Any suggestion on what should be done? BTW, I mentioned this to Dpbsmith too. Thanks. GO WHARTON 00:13, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GO WHARTON trolling

[edit]

As you can see here [1], this user has instigated a conflict with me and so I looked into some of the allegations regarding his handle and detailed them on a warning on his talk page here [2]. I believe this user is basically behaving badly under a sockpuppet handle and trying to get Wharton students blamed for it. Gekko 00:34, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Never mind. I'm going to follow Dpbsmith's advice and ignore him. I think I've done all I can (or need to) already, and it's clear this user enjoys argument for its own sake, as is the case with all trolls. Gekko 07:25, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You need to end your trolling activities on wikipedia, Gekko/MBAguy, as users and admins have repeatedly advised you during the last several days. You just promised Isopropyl you would take Dpbsmith's advice and "ignore [me]." But in the next sentence you regressed to your tactic of calling me a troll. You are embarrassing yourself again. As said before, take everyone's advice, let it go and move on. GO WHARTON 03:17, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I have contested prod. Thanks. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 15:17, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for rewriting the article and removing the questionable bits and pieces. Isopropyl 02:55, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My pleasure! It's a good feeling to actually write something for a change, instead of voting "Delete per nom", isn't it? We should all try it once daily. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 22:09, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: Wiki-alf

[edit]

I'll look into it. Give me a little while: given what I've looked at your best course of action might be to post on the admins' noticeboard, and I'd strongly encourage you to do so. In the meantime, however, I'll take a gander and see what I can do. Snoutwood (talk) 07:27, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to leave him a note. The behavior seems to have improved somewhat (at least he's providing copyright information, if not sources). If it continues despite that, I'd say leave a post on WP:AN. Hope that helps, Snoutwood (talk) 07:49, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In the past, he has claimed to be sorting out the issues with his images, but in reality the only way the problems ever get resolved is when the images are deleted. After looking through his (extensive) backlog of warnings, I have not noticed a single image in which source information has been provided, though he claims to be working on it. We'll see how he responds to your messages and if the point still isn't made I'll post to WP:AN. Isopropyl 17:17, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder...

[edit]

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 22:43, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More on infoboxes

[edit]

Hi. We talked in early May about a template for defunct companies. I've created such a template. We had the same idea about simply adapting the current Infobox Company. I've created a very basic form, see Template:Infobox Defunct Company. So far I've had no comments, I'm sure we'll see after the weekend!! Please suggest any improvements to me or at Template talk:Infobox Defunct Company. Best regards --Mark83 20:26, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for tidy up

[edit]

Thanks for cleaning up the recently 'me' created article 'omega iris' - spot on - I can sleep soundly now - and a fast response too. HappyVR 17:00, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I would never block someone for personal attacks on me but I never object if they do get blocked. I'd much rather they venting it towards me rather than another editor that could be upset by it. They should listen to my supervisor and me go at it. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 23:17, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

omega eye picture

[edit]

Hi! I noticed you changed the 'settings' of the picture to make it less obtrusive. Normally I would do the same but in this case I didn't want to reduce the picture so that the eye was clearly visible to someone reading the page without additional clicks. Is it ok to make it bigger again or perhaps there is another way?HappyVR 23:34, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How's this?
Cropped to emphasize the eye. I'll go change it; let me know what you think. Isopropyl 01:00, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly the solution I was thinking of - but you beat me to it (saved lazy me a bit of effort), Great. That solved the problem. Thanks againHappyVR 07:44, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply to your message you sent me.

[edit]

I'm sorry, but I don't like my information removed by revered edits or like that. But why you sending this message to me? I apologize for putting "My info shoul not be removed", but I would except it by editing it, I apologize for it. When I put in the infomation for example on the April 2 page, *1971- The final Dark Shadows episode on ABC-TV. And a few days later it was removed, I was upset.

Spencer Karter Shkarter1985 ps BTW, this is supposed to be the free encylopedia that what Wikipedia is about, not the unfree encylopedia.

My apologies

[edit]

I've read your message, I'm very sorry and forgive me. I'm very sorry for putting shoul not be removed nonsense. Okay, I abide it as the best as I can. I'm sorry for what happened. On my last editing a few seconds ago, I didn't put "Shoul not be removed" nonsense. It make me get stressful when something bad happen, I worried. I'll not put the words "My info shoul not be removed" again, and I'm gonna to try my best.

Good faith

[edit]

Thank you for reminding Alienus about good faith. Despite anything I have done I never tried to mislead anyone by using rw. Chooserr <no wiki></no wiki> 04:26, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

File:Atlanticpuffin4.jpg Hello Isopropyl. Thank you for your full support and gracious comment at my request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation - especially when people like yourself make a rare trip to RfA to support. You can see me in action and observe what then happened as a result. If you need admin assistance, feel free to ask me. Naturally, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out. I look forward to working with you in the future, hopefully as an admin (I've seen you around on AfDs). Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 02:25, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Prod

[edit]

Hi. I think you used {{subst:dated-prod|...}} instead of {{subst:prod|reason}} for tagging Damian Burton and Song of Sophia. This is my explanation of why these articles ended up in non-existent categories like Category:Proposed deletion as of 5 june 2006 instead of Category:Proposed deletion as of 5 June 2006. This is a problem because actual deletion is done from these categories. Can you use {{subst:prod|reason}} from now on? Thanks. - Liberatore(T) 13:38, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Isopropyl 13:54, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more careful with GA nominees.

[edit]

Do not add an article to the list if it doesn't have any references as this is an automatic fail. (e.g. ZIP Code) --SeizureDog 13:56, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message and help

[edit]

Though Wiki-star quickly reverted the edit and ignored the warning, as I thought he might. I went ahead and added the new revert to the admin board. Thanks for the link and help from before. Voice of Treason 18:42, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. You did the right thing and kept your cool. Isopropyl 19:44, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info about userpages

[edit]

Hey, Isopropyl! Sorry about my userpage story thing. I read what was on the hyperink, and have realized the error of my ways! I'm still kinda new...*blushes*... it's deleted.

Interiot's backup counter

[edit]

Cheers, Isopropyl! Yeah. I've tried using that tool, but it got all screwy for me. Anwyay, I have Internet Explorer, so... right. If you want to help me out with that on your spare time, it'd be great!

Interiot's backup counter #2

[edit]

Thanks, isopropyl! Is there a way I can post that on my user page? But thanks A TON for at least showing me my edits... much appreciated.

And by the way, did you name yourself after the organic compound? If I can remember, it's something like C3H8 and the carbons looked like:

    C
    |
C - C - C

RelentlessRouge 15:50, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You could try giving a link to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Interiot/Tool2/code.js?username=RelentlessRouge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Interiot/Tool2/code.js?username=RelentlessRouge] but the viewer wouldn't be able to use IE. As for the compound, that's actually isobutane. For a picture of isopropyl, you can check out the article, or look at the header of my talk page. I'll repost this on your talk page as this is in my archives. Isopropyl 16:02, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Isopropyl...sorry about the butane business... whoops. Are there any other edit counters besides Wiki's or Interiot's? Thanks.
