A barnstar for you!
The Resilient Barnstar | |
Hey! Just wanted to say a quick good job on running for adminship, even if you didn't make the cut this time around. Keep your chin up, pull your thoughts together (RfAs are intense!), and try to learn from the opposing comments. Wishing you much better luck for your next run! - @Bsoyka Thank you very much for the barnstar and your kind words. It was a brutal RFA. It was opposed from the very start. I'm glad that the opposing comments gave me some good advice not just on adminship, but as an editor in general. They provided a lot of weaknesses with my editing and my standing on Wikipedia and I am committed to change that. Right now, I am not focused on adminship, I probably won't run for quite some time now since I need time to build up my skills, but I am hoping if and when someone asks me to or if I decide to run again, hopefully, I will have better luck by then. Again, I appreciate your comments. Interstellarity (talk) 21:52, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- hi I don’t believe we’ve interacted before but thanks for running and as you concluded, your time isn’t now. I hope you won’t be put off from trying again in a year or so. Best wishes for 2024. Mccapra (talk) 23:22, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you again for your well wishes. I most certainly won’t rule out running for RFA again at some point in the future. Right now, my main focus is to improve myself as a Wikipedia editor. I’m sure a lot of the opposes on my RFA would be glad to support me in a future RFA if I address their concerns rather than never support me. I’m sure a lot of them admire the work I do for Wikipedia, but I’m just not ready for the toolset just yet. I hope you understand where I’m coming from and thanks for the well wishes. Hey Interstellarity! It's truly inspiring to learn about your journey (though I have no idea how you eventually got unblocked due to suppressed page history). Your positive attitude and openness to learning from mistakes are commendable. I think you should get back some of your user rights at some point because it seems like you're in a retired status without them. Taking things step by step, I recommend trying an optional RFA poll as a first step next time when you are ready. Keep going, you're doing great! 94rain Talk 00:29, 3 January 2024 (UTC) |
- Hi @94rain and thank you for leaving me this barnstar. I did have my user rights before, but decided that I didn’t need them at the time. I am open to getting those rights back at some point so that I can do more great work for Wikipedia. The reason why my edits were suppressed is because I have personal information there that I am not comfortable disclosing to anyone in public. If I could show you my unblock request, I’d be happy to without the personal information. I remember doing an optional RFA a few years back and I got some feedback regarding how I can improve. I did talk to another administrator regarding his thoughts on a potential RFA. He gave me a list of things he looks for when deciding how to vote in an RFA and I thought it would good to give it a go. When I was making the RFA, I wasn’t sure how it was going to go and that the RFA could go either way: pass or fail. It turned out that I never even cracked the fifty percent mark on supports on the RFA which shows that the community does not trust me yet for the toolset. These are my reflections on how the RFA went and I hope to build my Wikipedia career in the years to come. Interstellarity (talk) 00:46, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
AfD
Hi! I was meaning to respond before, preferrably before the AfD was closed, and have taken longer than expected, sorry! I only wanted to tell you not to worry about opening the discussion :) There are many times when articles are only improved when issues are brought up and more editors have eyes on it.
Even if the article can be improved, there are sometimes that this will only be let known by another user, of the editor might simply not have enough time to tackle a big task. In any case, please let me know if I can be of help anyhow. Best wishes! NoonIcarus (talk) 11:53, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
- @NoonIcarus: I think for the majority of articles on Wikipedia, they can be improved rather than deleted, but sometimes articles are better off being deleted if there is no hope the article can be improved. I think an article like Mali–Russia relations would not be deleted since there are sources that cover that topic. I think following WP:BEFORE would help. Thanks for your feedback. VA lists on mobile noted
Hi Interstellarity,
I just wanted to let you know that while I'm going to close out the short thread you started at Wikipedia talk:Vital articles/Level/5#Making vital articles accessible in mobile view, I did think a bit about it.
I'm surprised it didn't get more feedback. I have a couple starting-points I can look into further though. If I come up with a concrete plan, I'll bring it up on the talk-page there. -- Zar2gar1 (talk) 17:49, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, I think the accessibility of the vital articles pages are fine in desktop view, but I'm sure you can tell how hard it is to navigate the list in mobile view. I'm hoping we can get the ball rolling and make something happen. Interstellarity (talk) 01:34, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- So I actually checked out the page in the mobile app. While huge lists like that are never convenient on a phone, nothing immediately jumped out at me.
- Maybe some of the lists could use sub-headers more consistently, but did you have other specific issues in mind? Is it the navigation, how the lists actually display, etc.? -- Zar2gar1 (talk) 23:21, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- I use the mobile web version rather than the app and I see the difference on how hard navigation is. Interstellarity (talk) 01:40, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, I see, I'll check it out at some point. I was pleasantly surprised how well the app handled the one page I checked, but maybe if we standardize the markup some, it will be better by mobile browser too. -- Zar2gar1 (talk) 02:19, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
