Could you start a page for the US National Gymnastics Championships? We have one for the NCAA gym championships and even for the American Cup (which is a more minor meet) but not one for Nationals. I can build the content and all, just need a title page put up. But as an IP, I can't technically start the page. Procedure is I ask a non-IP user to start it. See here: Category:Gymnastics competitions72.82.33.250 (talk) 00:54, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
editing question: searching revisions
We lost a whole section of the Shawn Johnson biography: her 2008 competitive season. All it has now for 2008 is the Olys. But she had a whole season's worth of meets (similar to 2007): Nationals and several other big International meets. I know that stuff was there a long while ago. I guess I can try to search where it left, must have been deleted in error. If I have to, I can make it all from scratch, but there will be a lot of content with footnotes and such. Any FAST WAY to find that in the revision history? Note, this isn't stuff like all her television appearances or the like (which spinach I can understand pruning). It seems like stuff that must have got clipped in error. I'm actually not interested in making you look for that content per se, but just to know if there is a "trick" for searching revisions if I have this problem in the future. 72.82.33.250 (talk) 01:22, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
fancy cites
Do you know how to use those fancy cite templates for references? Like how do you actually get them to appear? I guess I will read about it and try to figure it out. Is there a button like the reference button? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.82.33.250 (talk) 05:29, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I'm still baffled, how you mechanically put it in the page 1. Is there a button (like with the ref thingie) or do I need to type out the template in the double squiglies? 2. Will it give me the fields and all? Then add the data? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.82.33.250 (talk) 06:36, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- If you create an account there is a JavaScript that automates the functions, like the ref. But by hand though, you can use the code. {{cite web }}--intelatitalk 07:34, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I know I'm coming across as slow, but I feel like I am caught in a catch 22. When I just type in the word, inside double brackets...that seems like all I get. Shouldn't it pop open and give me fields and stuff? P.s. Even as an IP, I get the ref thing as a clickable button on the screen. Little book looking icon. Love that! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.248.6.169 (talk) 20:13, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Look inside the template page and use the {{cite web }}.
- And yes the book thing is handy for quick references. If you get an account, you can get a ref toolbar that automates the {{citeweb}} proccess.--intelatitalk 21:06, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm already perma-banned
Just read your stuff on adoption. Good page. So...
1. I am already permabanned from a year or two ago. The reason was repeated incivility. (I could debate the very last banning as I was joking around with another editor, but there was a very long pattern of incivility and I felt like I had gotten plenty of second chances, so it was kinda karmically correct...plus it's pretty hard to debate the behavior....plus I always hated whining about punishment...rather just take it.)
2. I've been pretty much off the project since the permaban. I think completely off for many months. Got back and did a few (constructive) editing days a couple months ago. Had to get people to create new pages and all that bother.
3. My pattern was never really blatant vandalism. More trolling and joking and then incivility (as an element of the trolling). Usually pretty decent editing along the way. (And I'm not justifying the behavior...I understand that getting some edits in does not earn the right to troll...I'm just explaining the flavor of the sins for whatever it's worth.
4. Can I be adopted by you? A. First thing is would need some help figuring out how to get reinstated, or a new life. I don't understand how to do that. But since part of your adoption service is you say you know how to figure stuff out, that would be the first "need". B. Since you hate incivility, maybe you would not want me! However, we could flip that around and then say, me being an involuntary adoptee or whatever, would be a part of my parole to rehabilitate me, and since you are so anti-hitting, then that would make you a stern parole-master. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.82.33.250 (talk) 09:11, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Goodvac (talk) 20:37, 21 November 2010 (UTC) - It indeed is; editing by proxy for a banned user is against the rules. Article of the month – Auto Club Speedway, a recent good article
Auto Club Speedway (formerly California Speedway) is a two-mile (3 km), low-banked, D-shaped oval superspeedway in Fontana, California which has hosted NASCAR racing annually since 1997. The track was also used for open wheel racing events until 2005. The racetrack is located near the former locations of Ontario Motor Speedway and Riverside International Raceway. The track is currently owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation and is the only track owned by ISC to have naming rights sold. The speedway is served by the nearby Interstate 10 and Interstate 15 freeways as well as a Metrolink station located behind the backstretch.Construction of the track, on the site of the former Kaiser Steel Mill, began in 1995 and was completed in late 1996. The speedway has a grandstand capacity of 91,200 and 28 skyboxes. In 2006, a fanzone was added behind the main grandstand. Lights were added to the speedway in 2004 with the addition of a second annual NASCAR weekend. In 2011 the track will host only one NASCAR weekend. Windows Phone 7 assistance
Hello Intelati. You might remember me. I spent a lot of time editing the Windows Phone 7 article over the summer. Well since the phone's launch, it's gotten more and more attention, and the quality of the page has really taken a dive. There is one user stirring up a lot of trouble. Anyways, if it's no trouble for you, it'd mean a lot to me if you could help maintaining the article until things cool down a bit. There are a lot of good editors working very hard on it, but things are very difficult right now. I personally don't have enough experience on Wikipedia to know how to handle some situations like this, so your assistance would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks a lot CaptainStack (talk) 09:09, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Article of the month – 2010 Sylvania 300, a recent Good Article
The 2010 Sylvania 300 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held on September 19, 2010, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire. The 300 lap race was the twenty-seventh in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as well as the first race in the ten-race Chase for the Sprint Cup, which ends the season. Clint Bowyer, of the Richard Childress Racing team, won the race, with Denny Hamlin finishing second, and Jamie McMurray third. Pole position driver Brad Keselowski maintained his lead in the first lap, but in the second lap Tony Stewart pulled ahead. Chase for the Sprint Cup participants Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, and Hamlin were in the top ten for most of the race, but in the closing laps all of them suffered spins or other problems. Hamlin was the only one to recover and finish in the top five. With two laps remaining, Tony Stewart was leading the race when he ran out of fuel, giving the lead to Bowyer, who also led the most laps in the race with 176. There were eight cautions and twenty-three lead changes among eight different drivers during the race. The race was Clint Bowyer's first win in the 2010 season, and the third of his career. The result advanced Bowyer to second in the Drivers' Championship, thirty-five points behind Hamlin and ten ahead of Kevin Harvick, but because of a penalty three days after the race, he fell to twelfth in the standings. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, thirty-two points ahead of Toyota and seventy-four ahead of Ford, with nine races remaining in the season. A total of 95,000 people attended the race, while 3.68 million watched it on television. WikiCup 2011 January newsletter
We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Added template for SuggestBot
Hi,
Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.
We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.
We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 22:23, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

The 2010 Price Chopper 400 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race that was held on October 3, 2010 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. The 300 lap race was the twenty-ninth in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The race was also the third event in the ten round Chase for the Sprint Cup competititon , which would concluded the 2010 season. Greg Biffle, of the Roush Fenway Racing team, won the race, with Jimmie Johnson finishing second and Kevin Harvick third. Pole position driver Kasey Kahne maintained his lead on the first lap to begin the race, as Jeff Gordon, who started in the third position on the grid, remained behind him. Twenty-three laps later Jeff Gordon became the leader of the race. After the final pit stops, Paul Menard became the leader of the race, but with less than fifty laps remaining, Biffle passed him. He maintained the first position to lead a total of sixty laps, and to win his second race of the season. There were five cautions and twenty lead changes among twelve different drivers throughout the course of the race. It was Greg Biffle's second win in the 2010 season, and the sixteenth of his career. The result moved Biffle up to eighth in the Drivers' Championship, eighty-five points behind Jimmie Johnson and sixteen ahead of Jeff Burton. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, thirty-seven ahead of Toyota and seventy-seven ahead of Ford, with seven races remaining in the season. A total of 100,000 people attended the race, while 5.25 million watched it on television. WikiCup 2011 February newsletter
So begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round. Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.
Some news for those who are interested- March will see a GAN backlog elimination drive, which you are still free to join. Organised by WikiProject Good articles, the drive aims to minimise the GAN backlog and offers prizes to those who help out. Of course, you may well be able to claim WikiCup points for the articles you review as part of the drive. Also ongoing is the Great Backlog Drive, looking to work on clearing all of the backlogs on Wikipedia; again, incentives are offered, and the spirit of friendly competition is alive, while helping the encyclopedia is the ultimate aim. Though unrelated to the WikiCup, these may well be of interest to some of you.
Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on this page. For those interested in statistics, a running total of claims can be seen here, and a very interesting table of that information (along with the highest scorers in each category) can be seen here. Inka 888 RfA
Hi, Intelati. Are you aware that Inka 888 has applied at RfA? Axl ¤ [Talk] 10:40, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- And your point of bringing this to intelati's talk page is...? Inka888 10:58, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Mentors (and former mentors) often have the best understanding of an editor's judgement, especially any improvement over time. I am somewhat surprised that Intelati had not commented in Inka 888's RfA. Indeed it is often the case that an RfA candidate's mentor provides the nomination. This helps to validate the candidate's application.
- Many RfA candidates who have mentors (or former mentors) consult the mentor prior to the RfA: both to receive approval from the mentor, and to co-ordinate a winning nomination statement from the mentor. Axl ¤ [Talk] 09:25, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- I did consult Intelati, just not on his talk page. Inka888 10:02, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Article of the month – 2010 Ford 400, a new Good Article
The 2010 Ford 400 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race that was held on November 21, 2010 at Homestead Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida. The 267 lap race was the thirty-sixth in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as well as the final race in the ten-race Chase for the Sprint Cup, which ends the season. The race was won by Carl Edwards for the Roush Fenway Racing team. Jimmie Johnson finished second, and Kevin Harvick clinched third. Pole position driver Kasey Kahne maintained his lead on the first lap of the race. Edwards started in the second position on the grid, and became the leader of the race on the fourth lap. Shortly after a restart on lap 22, championship leader Denny Hamlin spun sideways, resulting with damage to his splitter. Martin Truex, Jr. took the lead on lap 73, but after the final pit stops Edwards was first. He maintained the lead to win the race, having led it for 192 laps. A total of 67,000 people attended the race, while 5.605 million watched it on television. There were ten cautions in the race, as well as twenty-five lead changes among nine different drivers. Edwards' victory was his second win in the 2010 season, with the first coming the previous week at the Kobalt Tools 500. Jimmie Johnson won the Drivers' Championship, 39 points ahead of Denny Hamlin. Johnson's team owner Rick Hendrick won the Owners' Championship. Chevrolet won the Manufacturer Championship with 261 points, 44 points ahead of Toyota. WikiCup 2011 March newsletter
We are half way through round two of the WikiCup, which will end on 28 April. Of the 64 current contestants, 32 will make it through to the next round; the two highest in each pool, and the 16 next highest scorers. At the time of writing, our current overall leader is Hurricanehink (submissions) with 231 points, who leads Pool H. Piotrus (submissions) (Pool G) also has over 200 points, while 9 others (three of whom are in Pool D) have over 100 points. Remember that certain content (specifically, articles/portals included in at least 20 Wikipedias as of 31 December 2010 or articles which are considered "vital") is worth double points if promoted to good or featured status, or if it appears on the main page in the Did You Know column. There were some articles last round which were eligible for double points, but which were not claimed for. For more details, see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring.
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round three is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! WikiCup 2011 April newsletter
Round 2 of the 2011 WikiCup is over, and the new round will begin on 1 May. Note that any points scored in the interim (that is, for content promoted or reviews completed on 29-30 April) can be claimed in the next round, but please do not start updating your submissions' pages until the next round has begun. Fewer than a quarter of our original contestants remain; 32 enter round 3, and, in two months' time, only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Casliber (submissions), who led Pool F, was our round champion, with 411 points, while 7 contestants scored between 200 and 300 points. At the other end of the scale, a score of 41 was high enough to reach round 3; more than five times the score required to reach round 2, and competition will no doubt become tighter now we're approaching the later rounds. Those progressing to round 3 were spread fairly evenly across the pools; 4 progressed from each of pools A, B, E and H, while 3 progressed from both pools C and F. Pools D and G were the most successful; each had 5 contestants advancing.
This round saw our first good topic points this year; congratulations to Hurricanehink (submissions) and Nergaal (submissions) who also led pool H and pool B respectively. However, there remain content types for which no points have yet been scored; featured sounds, featured portals and featured topics. In addition to prizes for leaderboard positions, the WikiCup awards other prizes; for instance, last year, a prize was awarded to Candlewicke (submissions) (who has been eliminated) for his work on In The News. For this reason, working on more unusual content could be even more rewarding than usual!
Sorry this newsletter is going out a little earlier than expected- there is a busy weekend coming up! A running total of claims can be seen here.
