  • It is no part of Wikipedia's remit to "make a major statement", and determining content of an article on the basis of what Wikipedia editors personally believe should be the prominent view of a topic is contrary to Wikipedia policy. Wikipedia aims to present topics according to the way they are presented in the majority of reliable published sources, not according to your view, or my view, or any Wikipedia editor's view of how the topic should be seen by the world. Inmyfeelings6 (talk) 20:30, 22 July 2018 (UTC) Can you please provide evidence that the "majority of reliable published sources" present Kanye as a "rapper, singer, songwriter and producer"? I cannot find a single one, while I can find many instances of him being referred to as a "recording artist."[reply]

Furthermore, as was the basis for this entire debate, the very person who the article is describing sees his profession through the lens of "recording artist" rather than any of the four terms mentioned. By not honoring this request, Wikipedia is essentially saying that "we know your own life's work better than you do."

I am not familiar with the article's subject, maybe @JamesBWatson and Binksternet: are, but I suggest you review WP:BURDEN in the meantime. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 20:43, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I shall make a few more comments which I hope may help to make the situation clearer for you.
Wikipedia's policy is that subjects are presented from the point of view of independent sources, which in the case of an article about a person is often very different from how that person would like to be presented. Anyone who wishes to publicise his or her own view of himself or herself has various ways of doing so, such as setting up their own web site, but that is not Wikipedia's function. I do not know how the person you have been editing about is referred to in most published sources, nor have I made any comment or statement about how he is referred to. What I have commented about is your statements as to why you want things changed, such as for example "Wikipedia could make a major statement with this change" and "honoring [his] request". The point is that the reasons you have been giving are not in line with Wikipedia policy. Whether there are other justifications for your changes which are in line with Wikipedia policy is another question altogether. If you think there are, then I suggest that you explain those reasons in a civil manner, and be willing to discuss the issues with other editors, with a view to trying to reach agreement. Accusing other editors of "lies" and of being "white supremacists" is not likely to persuade them to your point of view.
One more point. It is clear from what you say that you are aware that Kanye West is commonly referred to as a rapper. You quote himself as saying "When reporters call me ... the rapper", and you even refer to that as "the status quo". You have made it clear that your objection is that referring to him ion that way is bad, not in line with how you think he should be referred to.
