Re: GA failed
[edit]I will try to add the inline citations, but there is little information that is citable. I first decided to write this article because I have an abundance of knowledge about Hastings. There was not a lot of research required.
The image cannot be aligned to the right, I would prefer not to move it. But I suppose I can replace it somewhere suitable within the article.
I removed the "famous and picturesque", but the resort is a tourist attraction. In my opinion, it is required to include that.
I'm not sure where you are coming from with the "travel brochure" comment. There is only one mention of a resort or anything of that sort.
- There was not any information regarding bus routes, and never was.
- List of newspapers, radio and television stations is required.
- There was one external link to a resort, which is now removed. That was my mistake.
Thank you for the review in any case. But I do have some disagreements. Dhastings 21:27, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
- Let me add something: When you fail someone's article (in this case mine) I'm sure the author of the article you failed would like to know why. After reading your review again... I call it half useless. I'm sorry, but you used the word "several" time and time again, and did not bother to point me to these specific issues that you mentioned, may I add, some of them were nonexistant.
- Personally, I can edit work, and it isn't just about finding mistakes, or in your case, inventing some, it is about explaining what the mistakes were, where they were, why they were mistakes and maybe even helping the person correct them. I certainly did not mention "bus routes" and I believe, in order for you to improve your overall editing skills, you should be more attentive, open minded and conscious of what has actually been written. It aggravates me to have to look over my own work, trying to find these mistakes you mentioned, when many of them were nonexistant, and many were mistakes in a matter of your opinion, and by all other means were perfectly correct.

Seas and Oceans
[edit]Akanemoto has been adding those links to 100s of articles. I already removed a few from Indonesia. I counted 11 seas/oceans in Indonesa - i bet there are more. Thus he would create 11 info boxes for indonesia. He doesn't seem to realise we removed them. I wonder if anyone else has questioned him on it?? --Merbabu 05:00, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- I've left him a message. All those infoboxes are so stupid and uninformative. — Indon (reply) — 05:02, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

So, can you help me (by creating the map :P). Hehehe, sorry for that. But really, you are really a great editor. Good luck and take care!! -- Imoeng 06:05, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Indon,
Thank you sincerely for your attention to Taiwanese aborigines. You made many changes; so many that I could not address them one-by-one. I'm afraid that with great reluctance I reverted your edits, but only so that we could discuss them on the article's talk page.
Thanks again!--Ling.Nut 16:03, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- HI again, Indon,
- Of course I want you to contribute to the article! Please don't think I don't value your contribution. And I see your point about redundancies. You just made so many changes, and some of them were not about redundancies. I would like to discuss them one by one, or at least by small groups of related changes, on the article's talk page. Thanks --Ling.Nut 17:20, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sorry that my reversion of your edit offended you. It may have seemed like a drastic move. I tried to compensate for that by explaining clearly my reasons for reverting, and leaving several doors open (in several different forums) for us to discuss things further. If you decide not to contribute further to Taiwanese aborigines, I wil regret the loss of your input, but I will repsect your decision.
- Best regards,
Licence of Image:214761890 86afa3ab56 m.jpg
[edit]Is there a particular reason why you changed the licence of Image:214761890 86afa3ab56 m.jpg? The uploader seems to be the same person that uploaded it at flikr; this is a scaled down version; it was licenced as cc-2.5 at wikipedia, and the same picture, albeit a larger version, was licenced cc-nc at flickr. Now you assumed that the image was uploaded from flickr to wikipedia... but this is just an assumption. Judging by the uploader's contribution and user page, it's the same person, the original photographer. And he licenced the photo cc-2.5 here. --Qyd 16:44, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Metallica article
[edit]Why did you place so many citation needed tags in the article when there are clearly some statements that do not need references. With your logic, there would be a citation needed tag after every sentence. I would just like an explanation on why you placed those citation tags (I am probably wrong, but I just do not see how some of those sentences need to be cited). Thanks a lot. Wikipediarules2221 07:03, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- Alright, I see your point. If it is consensus that those comments need citations then forget I said anything. I just thought some of them were over the top. Carry on and keep up the good work. Cheers! Wikipediarules2221 22:17, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hey I am fine, how are you? No lol, it has nothing to do with the map. As I said, I haven't got much time as for doing things as usual, and its getting somewhat worse :(. However I do realise the project needs maintanence, so every two weeks, I will log in and update stuff, including newsletter. Now by that time, you should tell me what has happened :P. No, only joking, I will "watch" people's contributions. Oh yeah, about the map, no harm right? Can you still finish it? :P. I'll check that when I am back, hehehe. advice
[edit]Hi Indon, i need your advice on a GA candidate about referencing. I've been contributing to Turkish Airlines Flight 1476, and add it to GA candidate. A user has reviewed it, and written that MLA style referencing. Do you think it's better to use MLA style, or don't change them. Btw, all references are from news articles and 3 of them goes dead. What can i do, try to replace them or don't change them too, because it's difficult to replace all of them. I've read Wikipedia:Citing sources What to do when a reference link "goes dead", part but i'm not sure. --Ugur Basak 09:58, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

GAC relist
[edit]Hello - I don't disagree with your logic about relisting Bronx High School of Science on WP:GAC but thought you should know it's still listed on the GA list and as a candidate for collaboration of the week. Tvoz 19:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
- No, if I'm reading it correctly the GACo status is for articles that have already been given GA status, which is why I asked.Tvoz 18:14, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, ok - the reason I raised it is I saw no point in pursuing GACo of the week if it was going to be shot down because the GA status was removed. So I think where we stand now is that the article is nominated for Good Article status, awaiting reviews, and we'll take it from there. ThanksTvoz 18:22, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Indonesia Project
[edit]Yes, shame about Imoeng. I hope he can reconsider, perhaps all he needs after a break is to just slow down a bit with his wikipedia commitments, rather than cancel them altogether. As for the project, on Monday I update the weekly articles and photo and can do it again this week. As for the longer term, I am happy to help out with the portal and organising collabs. Yes, i think we do need to do some planning but these next two weeks for me are a bit crazy. I have exams this week then I an going on holidays. So, I think we can survive next two weeks (you do news, i can do AOTW and pics etc, and I can do collab) - and we can think about what to do. GImana? --Merbabu 22:44, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have a few of my own ideas for the project too. Also, i forgot to mention the newsletter, I think not this Sunday, but following Sunday we can try to get one out to members. And, something tells me Imoeng not 100% gone - he will be back a little bit after wikibreak (isn't that correct, Imoeng?). As for my banner, yes it is very annoying, even I keep clicking on it!!! --Merbabu 22:56, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Forgive me if I'm doing this incorrectly, but it's my first response to a talk comment.
I have been putting up several photos from South Coast Repertory and may be using the incorrect Image Copywright Tags. The phots are available for free use, we only require that the photographer and/or South Coast Repertory be credited when used. If you would check out the changes I've made to that page and give me any suggestions I would be grateful.
Thanks for your help! hvhmoney 23:13, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for the quick response. The images aren't from the website. I work for the company and they requested I upload some photos to accompany the article. SCR has agreed that they can be used for any reason as long as either South Coast Repertory and/or the photographer are credited. That said, is the image tag correct or is there a tag that would better suit the purpose? Thanks for your help.

Re: Speedy Deletion Penny Harvest Page
[edit]I recently received a notice of speedy termination of the Penny Harvest Wikipedia page. I have familiarized myself with the rules and regulations governing the use of Wikipedia, and am writing this letter to dispute the deletion of the Penny Harvest page based on the following reasons:
The Wikipedia guideline on criteria for organizations states that the organization must be notable and verifiable, “Organizations are usually notable if the scope of activities is national or international in scale and information can be verified by a third party source. Notability can be asserted for organizations through: 1. inclusion in third party published materials; 2. a significant amount of media coverage that is not trivial in nature and that deals specifically with the organization as the primary subject.”
The Penny Harvest is a national nonprofit education program. The program exists in about 800 schools across 11 cities, with a member base of just over 500,000, not including its 4 million alumni. The members, grade school children, have raised over $5 million for charity since the programs inception. The students are currently raising over $600,000 a year, which will rapidly increase the overall total.
The success of the Penny Harvest Program can be verified by reliable sources of information, such as Idealist.org, The National Youth Leadership Council, The Ford Foundation, UNICEF and other scholarly colleagues in the field who support this initiative. The Penny Harvest program also received a significant amount of media coverage from CNN and the Oprah Winfrey show and has had major articles in the New York Times(1), Parade Magazine(2), and Child Magazine(3), to name a few.
Many of the causes and charities these children support through the Penny Harvest are included on Wikipedia or have individual Wikipedia pages. These causes include sexual abuse, LGBT rights, issues surrounding homelessness, animal cruelty, and immigration rights; and charities such as American Red Cross, Make A Wish Foundation, American Cancer Society.
The Penny Harvest is a service-learning and character education program with a strong and visible presence in the field of education. The program strives to continue President Bill Clinton’s vision of expanding opportunities for Americans to serve their communities. The case could be made that the Penny Harvest program is the most distinct and successful program bridging the theoretical leap from simple community service to total service-learning. This topic would be of interest to non-partisan editors.
Finally, I am certain the scope and reach of the Penny Harvest program’s cultural/social impact is at the very least equivalent to that of some of the other people/organizations for whom pages currently exist. I am currently making changes to the original document to in compliance with Wikipedia’s rules of NPOV and verifiability.

The image is from a print media. I have scanned it and uploaded it. No other online source is available to get this image. So how can I furnish external links...?
Google hits must not be taken as a yardstick in Asian related AfD's
[edit]Google hits must not be taken as a yardstick in Asian related AfD's. Newspapers of Vernacular Languages may have millions of readership. For example, in India every state has its own language. There are more than 20 widely speaking native languages in India. But the news reports from the newspapers of such languages are not available in google search.Take the case of Malayala Manorama Newspaper. Currently this Malayalam language newspaper has a readership of over 9 million, with a circulation base of over 1.4 million copies according to Audit Beureu of Circulations. Manorama is one of the India's largest selling and most widely read news paper. There are more than 50 such newspapers in India. News reports from such dailies are not available in google eventhough it have millions of readership. But news reports from English dailies with 1000 or 2000 copies are available in google search. It is really misleading...Isn't it...? In this context of notability tests based on google hits may be a worthless, foolish effort. In such circumstances we must consider the words of native wikipedians with more importance. May I know ur valuable opinion ……? Native news paper reports are not available in google. That's why I have scanned it and uploaded. Nileena joseph (Talk|Contribs) 16:20, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

RE: GA
[edit]Sorry, Indon. I just think you should have been more specific. I didn't intend to come off very harsh, and maybe a statement or two that I made were unjustified. I have worked on the article since, and have tried to correct everything that you mentioned. I just noticed that a lot of your mentions were just not at all specific, and one, for sure, was untrue.
What I mean is, I would have hoped you could have been more specific, rather than using the word "several" many times, as you did. I did not include bus routes, and have taken your advice on the "travel brochure" comment, however I don't think I had/have as many comments worthy of a travel brochure as you mentioned. I have removed any and all external links to any and all resorts, and have condensed the minimal information that I actually had about any resorts.
Now, I apologize for any inconvenience. Dhastings 18:46, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to copyedit and look at the article. I tried to follow all your sugestions. I left a response to each of your points on the talk page. It appears people are getting confused by some parts of the article but I can't really pick that up. It's also hard to clarify any confusing parts because everything makes sense to me and I don't know how to rephrase it better. Anyway, please note that I reverted two sentences you changed and I'll explain why:
- Your version: "Joyful Rebellion received positive reviews, as well as critics for speaking extensively on the state of hip hop."
- back to
- Joyful Rebellion received positive reviews, but at times was criticised for speaking extensively on the state of hip hop.
- Your version: "Joyful Rebellion received positive reviews, as well as critics for speaking extensively on the state of hip hop."
...because it wasn't the critics who said that, that sentence is saying that the critics criticised the album message which talked "extensively on the state of hip hop."
- Your version: After the 1995 Explosion tour, he met Red1 of the Rascals and they became friends. Red1 invited him to move to Vancouver.
- back to
- "Soon Red1 of the Rascals, who k-os befriended at the 1995 Explosion tour, invited him to move to Vancouver."
- Your version: After the 1995 Explosion tour, he met Red1 of the Rascals and they became friends. Red1 invited him to move to Vancouver.
Because I felt that breaking those in 2 sentences breaks the chronological time flow of the text. Since the time period being discussed is around 1996 but that first sentence from your version kind of break the time order and goes back to 1995. Does that make any sense at all?
Anyway thanks again, and I hope the above makes sense. I just wanted to clarify why I changed back those 2 sentences. Don't take it the wrong way, I very much appreciate your input. :) - Tutmosis 17:05, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
List of Indonesian Volcanoes
[edit]WOW! Brilliant! Amazing - brilliant - well done! SatuSuro 11:46, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- I would offer any help you might ask ( but unfortunately I will be off wiki soon for a week) - when Merbabu is back I am sure he will -SatuSuro

- If only we could do the candi list as well as your volcano list! I do have a list from the Miksic text - I will create a sub-page from it and you are most welcome to utilise it SatuSuro 12:07, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- User:SatuSuro/Candi List is there - in alphabetical order - but it is relevant until 1996 - the main list has some that were discovered after this date.SatuSuro 12:47, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
The format of the Miksic text has dates of construction - and gets quite complicated.
- Early Classic - Gedong Songo
- Middle Classic - Bali
- Late Classic - Candi Jawi - Majapahit and Bali
Whereas the article as it is 'clusters' into specific locations and describes the candi near Borobudur or Prambanan etc.
I would suggest that the new -list- could be either alphabetical or cluster - and a related article (not list) could descrribe the early/middle and late eras. SatuSuro 12:47, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you - I would appreciate that very much - I think your formatting in the volcano list to be amazing - however If I am away for a while maybe Merbabu might want do something different I dont know - I think he will be totally knocked out by your list of volcanoes - SatuSuro 13:43, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

- Yes! THe volcano list is excellent. I haven't spent much time looking at it. Once again Indon, you show us how to just "get things done"!--Merbabu 10:47, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Photo request
[edit]I am looking for photos of Indonesian architecture. if you know any good ones let me know. It's for the gallery in Indonesian architecture. thanks--Merbabu 09:21, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- I will try to collect suitable pictures and put them in Commons:Category:Buildings in Indonesia. BTW, I like the Besakih temple in the article. I will put it in Commons also. — Indon (reply) — 09:27, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. Pardon my language but the Besakih pic is "sh** hot". I checked that user's contribs. Seems to be the only one he posted and he hasn't been on wiki for almost 1 year. :-( I have some other pics of my own to scan and/or upload but they are only average. --Merbabu 09:30, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- I was thinking again to recategorize Commons. I don't like "Buildings in Indonesia", but tend to have "Architecture of Indonesia" category. I'll try to do what I can do. — Indon (reply) — 09:37, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the re-cat. Some of the commons images are great. I will try to use them soon. (and sorry about the talk page - it was an accident, but i don't understand how I did it - it seems it happened when i made the comment on the Volcano list. thanks for not being angry - lol). --Merbabu 11:31, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Institut Teknologi Bandung - like the new pic? You can move it if you want. --Merbabu 13:35, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

- I would say - one more and we go for a block - ignoring your warnings - not good SatuSuro 12:55, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
It looks like an added admin warning - should do something. BTW I am off on wikibreak for a week on Friday - I expect to be suprised by Merbabu's and your work in that time! SatuSuro 14:19, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- So preoccupied with other matters - well done Indon - you might be terlalu sopan and point to others - but your hard work really made the FA! well done - looking forward to seeing you now get a FL! SatuSuro 09:19, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for looking for info on the collab article. I don't have much, but (surprise surprise) i have a bit on Majapahit architecture - lol. Actually, there are a few books i wanna but that have info on majapahit --Merbabu 14:58, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi Indon. Can you check the majapahit article. [2] I tried to create a text box. How do i get the text to wrap around it? Do I need more text? In that section, I want the box to appear after the first paragraph, but have the 2nd paragrap wrap around the box. Canyou help? It works on Mount Tambora. Thanks --Merbabu 13:59, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Copyediting Weh Island
[edit]No problems - I'm only sorry that I don't have much time to write anything substantial at the moment, so most of my edits are going to be just tinkering around the edges. As long as you don't take my editing personally - your making some great contributions, wheras I'm mostly just doing a bit of tidying up. Keep up the excellent work. --Bwmodular 13:05, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Sei Whale
[edit]Thanks for your feedback on the Sei Whale article's Good Article candidacy and peer review. I have commented on your suggestions on the peer review page and have gone ahead and submitted the article for the more comprehensive Featured Article Candidate review at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Sei Whale. I would appreciate any feedback you could provide there. Thanks, Neil916 (Talk) 20:38, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
The "Prayer in Stone"
[edit]re Borobudur, I added a few details to the restoration section. PS, the Lombok spammer got blocked - he he. --Merbabu 15:21, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have a beuatiful colour book (almost 2kg) called "Borobudur A Prayer in Stone". The text is by Soekomo. THe pictures - i can't describe them - some of the most beautiful photography I have seen. I hate copyright - otherwise i would scan everything in!!! --Merbabu 15:34, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- Then I might ask your help later after the rewriting is done, to put inline citations overthere. ;-) — Indon (reply) — 15:36, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- I printed out the Soekono pdf and matched it up with the book. Much of the text is very similar. The pdf is 15 years older and has some stuff not in the book, but there is also a fair bit of good info in the book not in the pdf. I must say, I am a little jealous. "One day" i was going to add to this article - it is more exciting than Majapahit. (I feel i need to do Majapahit since I was the one who suggested it #^$#*@*!^@$). The book has more of the architectural info and renovation info. It also has quite a lot of intepretation of individual reliefs with pictures to match. I was so lucky to get it - I have only ever seen that copy and I bought it (in Semarang almost 10 years ago i think) - it is not even on Amazon.com. --Merbabu 03:23, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Don't worry. We can improve Borobudur at anytime later. I really want to help Majapahit, but I can't find any materials to add and I am not a good copyeditor. — Indon (reply) — 08:36, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Wow - where did all that info come from?? Have you been quietly working at home? --Merbabu 13:40, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hahaha. I didn't have internet connection at home, but I have a wikimedia server at my laptop. So I copied into my laptop, worked at home, while reading Soekmono paper, and boom here it goes now. :-)) Please check again wikilinks, structures and grammars. There must be a looot of mistakes. — Indon (reply) — 13:42, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it is a fine job. i started copyediting just what you wrote. I will add some more later from my 10kg book (if there is anything you haven't already mentioned!!!). I must say, I am a little envious of your efforts - i wish i could say i wrote that - but I have Indonesian architecture. A fine job, Indon. --Merbabu 14:05, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Your Indonesian architecture page is really good also. I will join in there as soon as I have literatures about that (I'm not actually major in architecture). And yes, if you have some words from that book, could you please make a citation of which page it is. It will be better to have some intertwined cross citations from different sources to avoid that this article was taken from a single source. (though Soekmono is the real expert of this subject). — Indon (reply) — 14:08, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Your Mount Tambora and Borobudur efforts have inspired me (make me envious - lol) that I want to "finish" Indonesia and Indonesian architecture. I did a fair bit of work tonight on Indonesia. I am about 1/2 way finished "Economy" then I will improve "Govt Issues" and then "Culture". But I think Culture is hard. BUT, i don't want to expand, just make them better quality. --Merbabu 14:28, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think the key is good sources. I'm sure if the article is supported with well referenced sources, then it will get smooth way to FA. Prose is the last thing. My secret is to ask other good copyeditors. I know some of them that are really nice if you ask their help. — Indon (reply) — 15:31, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Respect
[edit]I was quite impressed by your comments about the removal of the photograph of SBY in the edit summary for indonesia - here in Australia we have much less respect for our leaders - we would never even think that way about our prime ministr! SatuSuro 16:10, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Peer Review
[edit]Thankyou for commenting at the peer review for Maserati MC12, your comments have helped the article a lot (I think). You said "Sections are still stubby", but I'm not sure exactly what you meant by that. I was wondering if you could be a bit more specific, i.e. which sections. I have tried to address everything you suggested but that comment has me a bit confused. Thanks again for replying so quickly to the request. James086Talk | Contribs 14:14, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
hey Indon, you might want to check out the U2 article - ie, the peer review! I have spent a lot of time on that one. Nice if you can comment. thanks --Merbabu 14:52, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
