The sad soccer tragics at Talk:Soccer in Australia

I thought of taking their bait too, but decided not to bite, so they could stew in their own juices.

No intention of telling you what to do, but I reckon it's best to not waste time on their whinging.

Keep up the good work on the real football articles :-) HiLo48 (talk) 07:43, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Someone has to question their strange claims. It'll be interesting to see the response, if any is given :) IgnorantArmies 09:09, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, they do make some strange claims. I had a quick look back at that earlier thread. One thing that came back to me was the repeated claim that the name soccer is insulting. I recall asking several times for an explanation of that, because it sure isn't insulting in Victoria, and getting no response. Must admit, I'm tempted to play again, but it can be really time consuming. Don't let me stop YOU playing. HiLo48 (talk) 09:58, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Interview with Wikimedia Foundation

Hi IA, I hope this finds you well. My name is Matthew Roth and I'm a Storyteller working on the 2011 fundraiser with the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco. In past years, we've relied on Jimbo to carry the bulk of the fundraising weight and he's done very well helping us hit our yearly funding targets. This year, however, we're broadening the scope and reach of the fundraiser by incorporating more voices and different people on the funding banners and appeals that will start running full-time on November 7th. We're testing new messages and finding some really great results with editors and staff members of the Foundation. You can see the current progress of the tests here. I'm curious if you would want to participate in an interview with me as part of this process? The interviews usually last 60 minutes and involve a number of questions about your personal editing experiences, as well as general questions about Wikipedia and its impact in the world. You've been super active recently and we'd love to know more about what motivates you. Please let me know by emailing mroth (at) wikimedia.org. Thanks! Matthew (WMF) 22:08, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Igs. Lavender was born in India to Australian parents, but is he of Anglo-Indian background? --Shirt58 (talk) 11:01, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

I think what I was thinking is that because he was born in India, he counts as Australian-Indian and thus Anglo-Indian. But I've changed Anglo-Indian to Indian-born in the header, and altered a few categories as I'm not sure whether being born in India makes him Indian (ie. Indian citizenship). You asked for this article to be split and have support to do so. I am trying to clear up the backlog of split requests. Unfortunately, I cannot work out what you want in order to make the split. Would you be willing to carry out the split? Op47 (talk) 20:23, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

I've answered on the article's talk page, sorry for the late reply :) IA 12:27, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Wesley College

The convention across the school articles, is to have ", Perth", eg Aquinas College, Perth, Scotch College, Perth. So Ill move it to keep with the other articles until a different concensus is agreed on. Five Years 09:54, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Comment?

Hi. Would you like to comment here about a requested move? It involves ".com" in the article title and WP:COMMONNAME. Dan56 (talk) 13:50, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

commas in article titles

Hi there, I see that you moved a Mitch Brown to a "(footballer, born" from the "(footballer born". If you look at the Category:English footballers cat, you'll see that they never use a comma for this. I was intending to one day move any with commas back to the no comma form. It doesn't really bother me either way (hence I haven't done it) but I think this is probably one thing that we should align worldwide. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 06:45, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Ah, okay, I was trying to be consistent with the Nathan Browns, which seem to use commas. Either way is fine with me, can't see any difference between the two. IA 06:57, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
I think that Nathan Brown and Mark Williams are the 2 highest profile multi named players - and they both have commas, bit few others have! Probably why I left it as is. Might be something to attempt on a rainy winters afternoon. The-Pope (talk) 08:26, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Now thats a nice set of redirects then!!

thanks for that! SatuSuro 13:51, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks :)

Thanks for adding the images to the articles. I had a moment of editorial confusion as to which images to use on articles and if crap images were better than no images. :) --LauraHale (talk) 09:18, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Any image is better than no image IMHO, and yours are certainly good enough to go in most articles. Again, thanks for uploading – we've got 5000+ articles in Category:Players of Australian rules football, and maybe 300 photos in the relevant Commons category, so any photos, particularly of current players, are much appreciated. Not sure how much of an avid supporter you are of either team, but good to see the Giants get up for their first win :) IA 09:30, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
I have a few more if I am missing Sydney players. I just couldn't get close enough to the grounds to get higher quality close ups. :( I cropped relevant bits, choosing from about the first 220 images out of 660 I took. Was nice to see the Giants notch a win, especially as they blew that first quarter lead and it looked like GC was going to win up until mid-way through the fourth quarter. It is weird to see Melbourne sitting lower on the ladder than GC and GWS. --LauraHale (talk) 09:50, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:BLP 1.2 and 4.2 - I will take the image off commons if anyone tries that again - on a BLP such an item is not a balanced or neutral item. Cheers SatuSuro 01:50, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

Sorry not further explained in full on wiki at all - if you want a fuller explanation - off wiki only - thanks SatuSuro 09:57, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
