Veganism
Hey there,
I'm new to the wikipedia so I'm not sure how to deal with someone who plainly has their facts wrong yet reverts my edits. I figure I should do what I am doing, write you a letter explaining where you have misrepresented reasonable opinion on what you are writing about, and if you revert the changes I make again I will then have to consider other options.
Your comments that the production soybeans are the encouraging the destruction of the Amazon is correct. Everything you state from that point, that vegans eat lots of soybeans so meat eaters are more environmentally sound, is demonstrably false. A 2003 World Bank Study found in Brazil's Amazon "recent deforestation in significant parts of the region is basically caused by medium- and large-scale cattle ranching". The WWF who you quote as your source, in their Impacts of Soybean report plainly state "The market for soybean products is mostly driven by the livestock feed industry". So do you deny the evidence of the WWF when you mistakenly think it supports your case, but ignore it when it is shown to actually be directly against what you would like to believe? As for your using Greenpeace to give creedence to your argument, I have been a member and volunteer with Greenpeace for years, so if you would like the official position on this matter, which I am sure you don't because it won't agree with what you are saying, I will be happy to provide it.
The assertion in the criticisms section which you removed my reply to, that rice is the leading cause of methane output, also goes against the EPA figures. These figures show that rice produces 2 to 3 times less methane worlwide than animal products. If you actually read the report that you quote as backing up your assertions, you would find that the very first table used in the report Table 1 lists Enteric Fermentation (mostly cattle) and animal waste as combined producing well over twice as much methane as rice production. Even this table is old, if you read the IPCC report it states "For instance, intensive studies on emissions from rice agriculture have substantially improved these emissions estimates (Ding and Wang, 1996; Wang and Shangguan, 1996). Further, integration of emissions over a whole growth period (rather than looking at the emissions on individual days with different ambient temperatures) has lowered the estimates of CH4 emissions from rice agriculture from about 80 Tg/yr to about 40 Tg/yr (Neue and Sass, 1998; Sass et al., 1999).".
As for your assertion that rice is damaging because it uses 5,000 litres of water per kilo of grain, government studies in Australia show that a kilo of beef uses between 50,000 to 100,000 litres. Even the article you cite as evidence is talking about the increased use of more efficient methods of rice production which halve the water consumption you selectively quote from the article.
People who change things without caring for the accuracy of their comments will be the one thing that can wreck the fabulous wikipedia. If you had researched your assertions properly, I wouldn't need to be wasting my time writing this to you. Could you please advise me if you intend to continue reverting my additions to the veganism wikipedia entry without adding reasonable information which proves your case, as I would like to know whether to take this further or make the updates without them being removed.
Regards,
camerongreen(:at:)gmail.com

Added references to Pakistan
Hey Idleguy. Following your suggestion I added references for both the regular Pakistan article and the History of Pakistan. If you have any more you want to add, go for it. By the way I think the History of Pakistan article could use some streamlining and I'm thinking of shortening some sections that link to larger renditions. Tombseye 10:39, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

More vegan
OK. Unless you want to spend the rest of your life editing and re-editing the vegan section, I would give up.
I have edited out your section about soya bean and rice again and it is staying out.
The main reason is length. I am working hard to keep this topic down to WIki guideline lengths. I'd like to see it even shorter than it is but as it stands it is just under the limit.
Your argument within this sub-category is not strong and the Wiki is not the place to argue out personal points of view. Start a discussion forum if you wish, put together a convincing website, even better, write a scientific paper and get it published and we will link to it if it is good..
The main criticism that have been levied against your position are ;
the soya beans you talk of were for animal feed not vegan feed which adds an element of intellectual dishonesty to that which you wrote, the animals in animal husbandry still need to be fed, a factor you did not seem to want to acknowledge, and you did not factor in the environmental stresses of those animal onto environments that had to support them.
Think it through ... reduce the amount of food required for animal feed and you have an immediate surplus for human feed.
On top of which soya beans and vegetarians are not synonymous.
Your argument also took nothing into consideration of the suitability of native agrarian agriculture to the environments in which they flourishes, e.g. I'd like to see you grow beef stock on the tiered rice paddies of humid SE Asian. It would be as successful as seeding paddy fields in Aberdeenshire where Angus beef comes from.
You also ignored that there are other ways of growing rice and the environemental damage done by the introduction of industrialised animal husbandry, that India for one most clearly is suffering. Indeed the amount of water used to prudce one kilo of beef outweighs the water to grow one kilo of rice many times over. In short, it is a complex discussion that is not thought out and ought take place elsewhere. You have gone out of your way to ignore the debate put back to you about these issues and, lastly, it is worth stating that making snide inferences to others actions or intentions does not warm individuals to your cause.
Perhaps English not being your native language puts you at a disadvantage here but if you can put together a convincing negative environmental critique of vegetarian and veganism that stands academic inspection somewhere else, I'll link to it.
Thank you for your acceptance of these points.User anon 13:14, Nov 22, 2005 (GMT)
- Your tone is disparaging and your factually incorrect points is getting this nowhere. So please stop the vandalism when everything is properly cited. If you notice it includes animals too, so please don't jump on me. If you cannot stop this information suppression, pretty soon you'll most likely be banned. Your comments are also pretty much reeks of Eurocentrism. Also I've given the explantion pretty well in the talk page of the article where everyone has read it and not one has doubted the validity or the accuracy of the data presented, save you. Maybe you should come out of darkness and learn the truth. Pl. take any further discussions on this matter to the talk page of the concerned articles as I'll probably not respond anymore here. Idleguy 13:26, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
- Removed again. Keep your vandalism to yourself and go write the scientific paper. User anon 13:20, Nov 22, 2005 (GMT)
Vegan ping-pong
I am sorry but it exhibits the quality of your intellectual integrity when you address me saying that " not one has doubted the validity or the accuracy of the data presented, save you " but yet at the top of your own Talk page " camerongreen(:at:)gmail.com " goes into this issue in depth and on the talk pages your position is refuted. And in all cases you just ignore it.
Soya beans and rice are not synonymous with vegan. Many vegan eat neither. Without any doubt, non-vegan consume and drive consumption of more of both.
If you have issues with their production then that is best raised on their relative topic page not an unassociated one.
I look forward to a full and proper environmental critique of vegan principles but using one directed squarely at the meat industry is not it.
Thank you. 195.82.106.64 09:58, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
- Stop this vandalism and your sock puppetry. Changing IP addresses doesn't change who you are so stop playing games. I've responded in detail in the talk page of the article and I see no response. Also stop bothering me as if I'm the only one who's reverting your edits. A bunch of wikipedians are reverting your vandalistic edits including me, so I hope you get the idea that it's the wiki community at work not an individual. And nearly everyone disagrees with your edits. As I said earlier, stop being obsessed over a single article. don't become a single issue editor. Idleguy 10:21, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
- Also I may not even respond to your baseless accusations anymore in my talk page and is most likely to be deleted since you're become a bit of a bore. Idleguy 10:23, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
- Goes against guidelines to delete. Have you found a job yet?

Vegan issues
Hi,
I realize that anon / Mitsu is being rather frustrating and breaking many rules - most of that being changing IPs and logging in/out to "avoid" the 3RR rule.
But have you looked at his/her edits?
Some of them are of high quality. Assuredly, his first edits were not all that good, but he seems to be trying hard to conform to good guidelines. He has compromised what he believes to be the most accurate truth to present something that might better represent what others feel is true, improving the article in many cases.
This is definitely not vandalism. Vandalism is meaningless edits intended to lessen the validity of an article or just to spout random jibberish. This user is trying to improve the article, not harm it. Though some of his actions may be abusive, I would reccomend that you read his edits before automatically marking them as "vandalism". Misguided many may be, but most are not vandalism. You are coming across rather harshly. Automatically reverting edits because they are by anon/Mitsu is not classy, hon. I have read some of the edits and they are just fine. -- Rediahs 13:23, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

Has anything been done about the abusive editors on the Veganism and Talk:Veganism pages? We seem to have received the brunt of it. Cheers,Skinwalker 20:25, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- Guys, you are the abusive - and dare I say quite correctly in English - the ignorant editors. You are ignoring what is being asked of you. Ignoring the consensus. Look what you are doing, if you do not get your way you cry " help me ", " Eurocentric ", " vandalism ", but you go on to vandalise others. Enjoy your own company but go troll somewhere else.Skinwalkerpal 20:25, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Sources for Cruiserweight
Hello, good work on Cruiserweight, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. From what websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Cruiserweight? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET if you wish to review some of the different citation methods. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 03:47, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for the reply. Sorry if this seems like I'm hassling you for sources - it's hard to phrase requests for information without it sounding like an inquisition! I'll take a look and see if I can find a source. Cheers, Lupin|talk|popups 04:30, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

Veganism
I warned the user and the anon and I protected the page, so (hopefully) you guys can talk this out. The user and anon do have one valid point. Don't add large portions of text without a consensus. But. They need to be more civil towards you and try to listen to what you have to say before calling you ignorant. I also didn't like the user referring to your edits as "vandalism". Hopefully some time to cool off will do everyone some good. Thanks for contacting me. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 09:24, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- The problem with Idleguy is that he cannot accept the taste of his own medicine. He has been pushing his own agenda on this topic, where consensus on the discussion page, and rational intelligence, says it is utterly misplaced. Look at the edits, he is always accusing anyone that questions what he block inserts as vandalising. he just cant cope with it when it comes back his way.

I can buy your revert of my edit but you have to mention that it was a tactical blunder by Indian politicians. Just saying a bigger threat of war and keeping a holier then thou image is not sufficient.
