Tighter categories
I saw you separated Cape Verdean athletes into different specialties. While we do this for most countries, so far there are only 5 athletes, now broken down into three categories. What's the point? Categories are meant to make things easy to find. But with so few athletes and such a potential to remain so, isn't this just obfuscating? Trackinfo (talk) 19:24, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Trackinfo, I have created eight articles on Cape Verdean athletes: António Zeferino, Isménia do Frederico, Lenira Santos, Alfayaya Embalo, Euclides Varela, Carlos Almeida, Sonia Lopes and Eva Pereira. This brings the total to 13 and should now justify the categories. Happy editing -- Ianblair23 (talk) 05:39, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Nice work in creating this template. In case you're not already familiar with it, I find this tool really helpful in keeping track of which articles still need the template added. StAnselm (talk) 07:41, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi StAnselm, no I wasn't familiar with that particular tool. Thank you very much and happy (belated) Australia Day! -- Ianblair23 (talk) 09:00, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Landmarks
A question. Is a temporary street circuit that does not exist 50 weeks of the really a landmark? If it doesn't exist the land is not marked anywhere. --Falcadore (talk) 15:56, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Some help
Hi! As you are Australian, I would ask if you know any site from Australia or Oceania that has a complete listing of the results of the 1999 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships held in Sydney. The best I found so far was this, that is all messy, and don't have lanes and heats: https://archive.org/stream/swimnewsn252/swimnewsn252_djvu.txt . If not, I'll try to use this in the future, to make the pages of each competition. Thanks. Janperson (talk) 00:57, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Janperson, the results of the 1999 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships can be found at the World Swimming Magazine website. The links for each day's results are: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7 and Day 8. Commentary on each day's results can also be found at the WSM site: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7 and Day 8. Also previews of the men's and women's events as well as note about the introduction of semifinals. Happy editing! -- Ianblair23 (talk) 01:26, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

Athletics links
Hi Ian. Regarding this edit – for simplicity you can use the {{AthleticsLink}} template. Just stick in the event name and the sex (men/women). Cheers. SFB 14:05, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi SFB, you have prompted me to a do a full update the article (which I was going to do after creating a few more event articles). See this these edits. Cheers -- Ianblair23 (talk) 10:48, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Requesting advice/help
Hello, I'm sorry to be contacting you randomly like this, but I'm fairly new here and saw that you're an administrator that has a fair amount of experience and was just hoping that you might be able to help (or at least give some advice). I initially significantly helped with creating a page TapWalk. I followed the proper procedure and the page was approved by an editor. However, it was then nominated for deletion by someone else. I believe that I followed protocol and clearly explained why I disagreed with the nomination. Two people posted very brief and very generic comments about why they thought the page should be deleted (points that I directly disagreed with in my comment). At the same time I also worked to improve the page. However, the page was then suddenly deleted. I believe this violates Wikipedia policies because there was never a proper discussion and certainly no consensus was ever reached. sergeymann (talk) 04:05, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Political parties template
Thank you for actually adding this to things! I've been meaning to create one for a while and had no idea it existed.
What would you feel about changing it so it doesn't just list parties and numbers in the house and the senate, but other parties as well? There are some parties (like the CDP and Shooters and Fishers) that have a good bit of influence in some states but aren't here because they don't have federal seats. The Drover's Wife (talk) 00:09, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Drover, apologies for not replying earlier. I have just added other registered parties as you suggested and I have also added major defunct parties and rolled out this across the articles as well. Please review and add or remove any party you think should or should not be included. Cheers -- Ianblair23 (talk) 14:38, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hey, I saw this too and wanted to say nice job. I wonder about adding an additional category for parties with state representation (i.e. CDP, Shooters, DFD) to separate them out from the micro-parties? Or would that make the table too bloated? Frickeg (talk) 00:03, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'd take Frickeg's suggestion and remove the duplication of separate Senate/HoR rows so it doesn't actually bloat the table by adding the extra parties. Thanks for doing this, Ian - my original post was more of a "would you object if I did this?" rather than a "can you do this?" so thanks for going through and doing it! DYK
I'm looking at your DYK submission. That led me to 2013_FINA_World_Junior_Swimming_Championships, which you have helped edit. I wanted to go to the Official Site to confirm the results, but the Official site link goes to this which doesn't seem right. Am I missing something?--S Philbrick(Talk) 15:58, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi S Philbrick, it was the official website and I have added an archive link from the internet archive. I have also added a link to the official results located at fina.org.(see this edit) You can confirm the results there. However, I did reference each result in the Mack Horton article. If there is anything else you require please let me know. Regards -- Ianblair23 (talk) 06:52, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Marina Chan
Hello! Your submission of Marina Chan at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Serten (talk) 08:48, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- Ianblair23, it's been over two weeks without a response or any action. If you don't stop by the nomination soon, it will have to be closed, which would be a shame, as the issues were enough to keep the nomination from being approved. Thank you, and I hope you take action on this. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:29, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
- I regret having to do so, but after over another week of inaction on this nomination, I see no alternative but to mark it for closure, especially as you've just opened a new DYK nomination. If you had time to do that, you definitely had time to post to this nomination's page. If you see this before the nomination closes, you might still be able to save this one by posting there. Harrias talk 12:02, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
Hello Ianblair23. I have reverted your edit to this article as it substituted British English spellings for US, on a US subject. Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#National_varieties_of_English covers the point. Regards, Kablammo (talk) 22:49, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- My apologies. I saw a use of "metre" in the text, opened the article in edit mode, and replaced all such uses, which broke the links. I was self-reverting when I discovered that, but Kirin13 beat me to it. I have now replaced the one textual use of "metre" with "meter". Kablammo (talk) 23:02, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- No dramas, honest mistake. Just for your information the standard naming convention for all swimming event articles includes the Commonwealth spelling of metre. Cheers -- Ianblair23 (talk) 07:26, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
Medals tables spacing
Hey, Ian. You've been doing some great work updating swimming event article links for Olympic swimmer articles. I have all of the American and Australian Olympic swimmers watch-listed, so it's easy to track your progress. I have one small beef with your excellent work: respacing the infobox medals tables. The medals table templates of the American swimmers have all been intentionally spaced for ease of proof-reading -- it does no harm and makes it easier for those of us who regularly work on these articles to review the medals tables at a glance. Virtually all of the medals tables have also been edited so that each event is rendered on a single line of text, with no line-wrapping. I have started to do the same for the Australian swimmers, so that we have a measure of formatting consistency. All Australian swimmers now use the uniformly formatted Infobox swimmer template, and I would like to work my way through the Canadians, Brits and Germans in the new year, adding and updating the infoboxes as appropriate.
As you also discovered, all of the event links in main body text of American swimmer articles are pipe-linked to achieve the correct American spelling of "meter" with event distances hyphenated as appropriate when used as adjectival phrases. It's taken a lot of work to get to this level of stylistic consistency, and we would like to preserve it! With nearly 700 American Olympic swimmer articles, there is still a lot of clean-up to be done -- the text of many of the 1990s and early 2000s swimmer articles is a mess thanks to piecemeal editing, spotty sourcing and fanboy edits, but it does represent job security. I've recently worked to get three swimmer articles promoted to GA status, with three more pending. It's time-consuming, but there is satisfaction in slow progress.
Given your interest, you may want to watch-list the WP:Swimming talk page. The WikiProject has been moribund for several years, and it would be nice to have some new blood frequenting the talk page. Once again, thanks for your good work and cooperation -- carry on, sir! Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:05, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Dirtlawyer1, thanks for your message. I have periodically worked on swimming bios over the years and I agree that a lot of them are not up to scratch. I remember a few years ago that no spacing was the agreed format when listing the medals in the infobox. But I must admit I prefer the spacing as it much easier to read and edit. So, I will amend the ones that edited recently and will use that format going forward. Merry Christmas for Downunder. -- Ianblair23 (talk) 23:16, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
