Username
Hello, Hydrangeans,
It's going to take a while for me to get used to seeing this new username. Welcome to your new online identity! Liz Read! Talk! 07:45, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the warm greeting! It'll take some getting used to for me too. I've tried to get myself into the spirit of the username on my userpage. Hydrangeans (she/her) (talk | edits) 08:51, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
Stopping by...
to say hello and let you know that even though we don't always see eye-to-eye on things, I admire and respect your work here. Even though I have only two eyes you have at least 14 eyes! The new user name is great, and the lineage and image is a nice touch. See you around! Netherzone (talk) 22:04, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words. Reading this has just about made my day in a way I hadn't known I kind of needed. The respect is mutual; from what paths we've crossed, I've appreciated your contributions and how you keep a cool head. See you around as well! Thank you for your support for a MoS change, saying: "I do generally find having an infobox is better than not." It could be so simple. - Bach music for Easter! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:25, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the Bach music! Happy Easter to you as well. Perhaps someday the MoS will change. I'm sympathetic to the concerns of folks who worry that infoboxes tempt folks to add too much trivia, though I think eschewing an infobox entirely is an overcorrection. Even just having relevant dates is useful as a quick reference for the approximate time frame of a figure. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 06:02, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for April 4
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Oxford History of the United States, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page David M. Kennedy. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Have you considered taking this to WP:GAN? At a quick glance, it looks pretty good. -- asilvering (talk) 19:36, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- I've considered it but hesitated because I already have two Good Article nominations up (Liberty 5-3000 and The Glorious Cause: The American Revolution, 1763–1789). Since I haven't done many reviews, I don't want to overwhelm the process. Thanks for noticing the article and for your kind words about it; I do my best with my contributions. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 21:32, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- With your encouragement in mind, I've nominated the article for GA status. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 21:48, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- Good luck! Hopefully it won't get stuck in the queue for too long, since we have another backlog drive planned for July. -- asilvering (talk) 02:49, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

A random thought
I feel like you would really enjoy the WP:DISCORD; I don't really have any reasoning for this beyond pure vibes. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 03:45, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the suggestion/invitation. It's nice to be thought of and encouraged to try something new. I usually avoid large, public Discord servers, though, so I'm hesitant. But I'll think about it. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 03:56, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, no pressure either way. There's a lot of threads and the like that are pretty slow and I've found them good collaboration spaces. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 04:11, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Wanted to start
Hey. I agree with the idea that "wonder if intervention is necessary to address the editing community's failure to prevent these distortions
" and wanted to craft something jointly with you on the matter.
Are you active on the WP: DISCORD server? Do you want to cooperate there? I honestly hate communicating through these talk pages. Could create an account now if need be.
Thanks, KlayCax (talk) 02:20, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- I tend to avoid joining large public Discord servers because I find them overwhelming. As for jointly crafting a case request—I'm impressed by your initiative and humbled by the realization that it's sort of immoderate for me to have suggested doing something that I don't feel ready to do it myself. English Wikipedia's investments in Anglo–American empires and their shadows are steep; your impression of the downplaying in other articles about indigenous relations/eliminationism in various British settler colonies is the tip of an iceberg that only has occasional and semi-random exceptions. But the depth of this investment means challenging it is difficult. Extreme action is more likely to happen against technicalities (or even ordinary behavior stretched into being interpreted as technicalities or worse) in comparatively inconsequential edits by/about minority populations than against distortions in high-profile edits by/about the architects of Anglo empire and their descendants. I think the success of the case example I linked depended on the research labor of a professional academic as well as the whitewashing at issue not being about any Anglo–American empires (Gentile Polish privilege is different from British/Australian/etc. imperial privilege): a scale of effort I don't think I have the capacity to match and a circumstance our concerns don't share, respectively. I could say I'm open to helping revise or fine tune a case request but not investigate, but then that's thrusting all the research necessary on you, which seems like it wouldn't be fair to you.
- Sorry for any disappointment on this front. It's at least encouraging to know one is not alone in the impression of at least one of English Wikipedia's troubles. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 15:14, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Privacy concerns do not allow you to edit other people's comments
Per this edit [1] you are only allowed to edit your own comments (including the signature) for privacy. You are not allowed to edit the comments of others. Have you done this before or is this the very first time? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:21, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- You are aware that I've previously asked you to not post on my talk page. I will hope that my faith in the Wikipedia community is not misplaced when I say that I think it's understandable if I'm hesitant to take rules advice from someone who has had to be told they have an excessively rigid sense of various Wikipedia rules, and likewise hesitant to take privacy advice from someone who has had to be told that Internet stalking an editor is creepy behavior. I'll add that even in the event that what you say is 100% correct, I don't see how justifies you having just now edited my comments, which your linked edit reveals you have done by reverting my edits to my signature in my own comments. In your words,
You are not allowed to edit the comments of others
, yet you have edited my comments.Additionally, the guidance about username changing states that it should not be used to obfuscate an account's connection to past behavior on Wikipedia. That is why on that page I made the edits you presently object to; my sense was that this would ensure that anyone who reads it later knows when other editors are talking about this account/user/me without having to go into old versions. Otherwise various of the comments about/objections to/complaints against me on that page could become unclear to potential later readers unfamiliar with me before the account name change who are just reading the live page or an archive of it.I'll state now that I'm about to get on an airplane and have several cascading deadlines outside of Wikipedia that I need to meet across the next few days and next month, so talk page watchers ought not expect further posts from me in the immediate future. But I don't anticipate replying further to OP in this thread because OP has already disrespected my past request to not post to my talk page.
