Speedy deletion nomination of Hsien-Ching Chung
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Hsien-Ching Chung requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Flat Out let's discuss it 06:33, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
October 2013
[edit]Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Hsien-Ching Chung. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Flat Out let's discuss it 06:34, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
Review process of Draft:Ming-Fa Lin
[edit]dear friend, can you provide some more links for the biography of the professor Ming-Fa Lin about his birth and death? please provide the links if possible. Please write more about Taiwan and let me know if i can help. Thanks Jeromeenriquez (talk) 19:03, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- Dear @Jeromeenriquez,
- It's nice to have someone to discuss a topic with. Thanks for your detailed review.
- I will discuss point by point.
- 1. About the biography of Prof. Ming-Fa Lin
- When I started to write the biography of Prof. Ming-Fa Lin, I found it hard to grab the biography information directly from the internet. It seems that he was often keeping a low profile.
- Hence, I started to grab the information from the faculty page of the Department of Physics, NCKU. I sorted the major information and found suitable references accordingly. Most of the references are journal articles, academic books, and government databases. I know that on Wikipedia we must present information accordingly. It's our duty to the society.
- As you see, the article is presented in several sections, including (1) Brief description, (2) Education, (3) Professional Experience, (4) Research fields, (5) Honors and Awards, (6) Research Projects, (7) Selected Publications (300 articles are too hard to be presented.)
- 2. About Prof. Ming-Fa Lin's birth and death
- This is a serious and tricky question. After all, we can't get his birth certificate and death certificate from the hospital. This is the most direct and powerful proof. But even if there is, this private information will not be made public on the internet.
- Of course, there is an obituary posted by the family, where the birth and death dates are given officially. (Wikipedia: An obituary is an article about a recently deceased person.) I wrote the birth and death dates of Ming-Fa Lin according to the obituary. However, it is unsuitable to publish the obituary directly on the internet, since some personal information is also on it. If you want to see the obituary to check the birth and death dates, I can show you in a private way (such as by e-mail or other communication routes).
- 3. More about Taiwan
- The information about Taiwan can be found in Wikipedia directly (as shown below).
- "Taiwan is a country in East Asia. It is located at the junction of the East and South China Seas in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, with the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the northwest, Japan to the northeast, and the Philippines to the south."
- I thought it was not the major part of the article "Ming-Fa Lin." Hence, I decided to state the information about Ming-Fa Lin and left Taiwan with a Wiki link. For readers to focus on the article.
- 4. More discussions
- It is not easy to collect complete information. Some of them I am still thinking about how to write.
- These sections are (1) Main courses taught, (2) Student number (How many masters and doctorates have he taught? Maybe more than 100. But where to get the information. I still don't know.) (3) Political activity.
- I think it's hard to accomplish these sections because of lacking suitable references. Maybe I can give them one day when the data is ready. Hsienching (talk) 17:31, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for discussing. when i said write more about Taiwan i meant write more articles related to Taiwan in future. I know Taiwan because i have been to Taiwan.
- About Professor Ming article, any claim made in the article should be proved with the references, so i just want you to kindly write things in article which can be proved with a reference. This is a very important article and it must be included in the wikipedia but some more information should be added, like date of birth and date of death because i tried to find date of birth and date of death for the professor but didnt find the information online. Anyways please try to provide references and let me know if I can help further. Thanks Jeromeenriquez (talk) 19:10, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Dear @Jeromeenriquez,
- I appreciate your attitude towards the correctness and credibility of the information. It's our responsibility to give readers information accordingly.
- 1. About Prof. Ming-Fa Lin's birth and death dates
- Two references about Prof. Ming-Fa Lin's birth and death dates are added. (1) provided by a government database and (2) an obituary posted by the family.
- 1.1 Data from the government database
- I've found Ming-Fa Lin's birth and death dates in the government database. The Mortuary Services and Information, Tainan City, Taiwan (link: https://mort.tainan.gov.tw/English/History.aspx ) provides an online memory page for worshiping the deceased person. We can find Ming-Fa Lin's birth and death dates on the memory page. How to go into the page. (1) Into the memory page ( https://mort.tainan.gov.tw/Memory/Login.aspx ) (2) Apply for an account (3) Login (4) Enter the page "Query users" (5) In the "administrative district" column, select "741". In the name column, enter "林明發"
- For simplicity, I provided a screenshot of the memory page on Wikipedia Commons (link: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Memory_Page_of_Ming-Fa_Lin_-_Mortuary_Services_and_Information_Tainan_City.jpg ). In the memory page provided by the Tainan city government, you can see Ming-Fa Lin's name and his birth date (051/07/02) and death date (112/08/14) in the ROC calendar. In the Gregorian calendar, his birth date is 1962/07/02 and his death date is 2023/08/14. (To convert any Gregorian calendar year (1912 and after) to the ROC calendar, subtract 1911.)
- I've added the reference to the modified version of the article. I think that the birth and death dates provided by the government will be powerful proof.
- 1.2 Obituary posted by the family
- I've eliminated sensitive private information (by black blocks) and put the file on Wikipedia Commons (link: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Obituary_of_Ming-Fa_Lin_(1962-2023).jpg )
- I've added the reference to the modified version of the article. I think it's also important to provide the primary source.
- 2. Write more about Taiwan
- "When I said write more about Taiwan I meant write more articles related to Taiwan in future. I know Taiwan because I have been to Taiwan."
- I've got your point. I'll keep noticing something new, important, and interesting in Taiwan, as well as share the information accordingly on Wikipedia.
- Great! Taiwan is a beautiful place with friendly people. Wish you had a pretty memory in Taiwan.
- -----
- Thanks for your review and help! Hsienching (talk) 17:15, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- Dear Friend,
- I have very good memories of Taiwan. Taiwan is beautiful indeed and people are very friendly and lovely.
- Thank you for providing the information on the article. I will review the article.
- Regards

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Graphene nanoribbons
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Graphene nanoribbons indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 16:22, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- Dear @Liz,
- I understand the speedy deletion.
- Currently, the articles related to Graphene nanoribbon (GNR) in Wikipedia are rare. Hence, it's not appropriate to create a category.
- Because so many topics were written in one Wikipedia article Graphene nanoribbon. On the contrary, many separated articles of Carbon nanotube, and then a "Category:Carbon nanotubes" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Carbon_nanotubes .
- It doesn't mean that GNRs aren't important materials. We can find many scientific and academic review articles about GNRs and scientists still try to use GNRs to fabricate next-generation devices.
- I think it's appropriate to create a GNR category when there are GNR-related articles in the future.

Waqar💬 14:58, 20 June 2024 (UTC)- Dear @Iwaqarhashmi
- I appreciate your rapid and professional review.
- Your comment made me understand more about the grading scheme and encouraged me to contribute more.
- I'm not a well-trained Wikipedian. I wrote this article because I worked on Mt. Jade for years and loved this place. Every time I stay in Paiyun Lodge, I think that "this is the most famous and popular alpine lodge in Taiwan. Every year, thousands of mountaineers who want to climb the main peak of Yushan (Mt. Jade) will come here to live and get some support. Why is no Wikipedia article written in English."
- Hence, I tried to prepare and submit the article.
- This is just the beginning. I'll keep writing and improving the article.

- @Hsienching that's fantastic! Your firsthand experience is invaluable for creating a rich and informative article.
