Don't always need descriptions

[edit]

Just thought I'd point out the guidance at MOS:DABSHORT, which says "Keep the description associated with a link to a minimum, just sufficient to allow the reader to find the correct link. In many cases, the title of the article alone will be sufficient and no additional description is necessary." -- Fyrael (talk) 20:40, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you're referring to my recent edit at Mumbo Jumbo, I'm aware of the guideline, but still thought some very basic information (author's name, publish year, location of the ride) might help confirm that a user has the right usage. I was on the fence about adding those descriptions, and would not argue if you removed them. Hoof Hearted (talk) 13:01, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If that was the referenced edit, I consider the descriptions useful and in no way excessive, though not strictly neccessary. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 05:40, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help with editing

[edit]

Hi, I see that you added a list to the List of kidnappings. I was wondering if you could help me add some entries to lists as I am swamped with editing and would be very thankful for any help that I could get. Davidgoodheart (talk) 17:26, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was just fixing a misplaced entry more than anything else. I'm afraid I wouldn't have time to do extensive additions to lists. Hoof Hearted (talk) 18:09, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2023 Paradise Jam moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, 2023 Paradise Jam, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Maliner (talk) 21:11, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to delete the draft as I have no intention of improving it. I was only trying to add an article for the next series of the tournament by using the exact format and sourcing from the 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, etc. articles. I'm not interested in the tournament itself to do more research. Hoof Hearted (talk) 15:11, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited William Brown (soldier), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Columbia, Ohio.

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited United States at the Summer Olympics, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Football at the 1956 Summer Olympics.

Redirect change query

[edit]

What's the rationale behind your 2003 change?

MotoGP is intrinsically a trademark, albeit one restricted to Spain where the 'owning' business is based, and is but one classification of four in the same racing series: Moto3= 250cc, Moto2= 765cc, MotoGP= 1,000cc, with the fourth being MotoE= electric. TIA.-- 82.13.47.210 (talk) 02:14, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@82.13.47.210: I thought I understood the entire Grand Prix motorcycle racing article to be synonymous with MotoGP, as indicated by the logo in the infobox and boldface name in the second paragraph of the lede. If I was mistaken, please accept my humble apologies and revert my change. Hoof Hearted (talk) 19:32, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; it is confusing, and sometimes further-unclear due to over-zealous internal wikilinking, being a concocted buzz-word/branding by Dorna Sports, as a short-form of World Championship or Grand Prix motorcycle racing. We have a lot of problems with far-eastern, non-English first speakers who can say and write it, easily.
The emboldened text in the second para as you mentioned unequivocally states "The current top division is known as MotoGP...", (added in 2019) and two paras lower the four classes are mentioned. I've removed "current" and "currently". I like to see it further-differentiated as MotoGP class, where possible/applicable (as in this edit).
The UK television race commentators have been shouting-up Justin Marks with his brand-name entry Trackhouse Racing (Trackhouse Racing#MotoGP) and as Trackhouse Racing MotoGP (authored from a redirect by a now-blocked Malaysian IP!), and also Liberty Media which has bought a large share of Dorna, so there may be other developments in future. I'll rvt and keep a watch to see if any other comments ensue. Rgds,--82.13.47.210 (talk) 22:47, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
