Ohio Route signs

If you want to request images for the Ohio route signs, you can go to Wikipedia:Requested images and put up a request there. If you want to make them yourself, there is a roadgeek fonts package here [1]. It contains fonts for the numbers and letters used on most signs in the U.S. -- Grev 06:07, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Image Help Needed

I've uploaded some images, but obviously need help. Here is a list of what I've done:

The second item has the proper naming convention, and upon completion was already linked to 3 existing pages; however, the file isn't working. I'm having difficulty creating .svg files. This and the other files can be deleted, and I will mark them as such when I have figured out what I'm doing wrong.

Don

The svg files you created are incorrect. They actually just ask for the png image to be displayed, and try to look on the hard disk for them (that's my they don't work in Wikipedia). I guessed this when I looked at the svg in notepad and saw "F:\2006 Route Signs\Ohio\600px-Ohio_State_Highway_82.png" - that's the file it's looking for. I'm not sure how to make real svg's, or if Inkscape can truly convert png to svg. To get the incorrect files deleted, place {{db|I am the author, this image can be deleted because it is incorrect}} on the image description page.--Commander Keane 02:25, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

I put up small articles on certain Ohio state highways (287 365, 366, 368, 508, 533, 540, 638, and 708), but none of them had signs, and my computer doesn't have software to create .svg files. Therefore, the only picture I put up was a .png of the 638 sign. Help requested for pictures! Thanks :-) Nyttend 05:06, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I've seen some of the debate about state highways/State Highways/state routes :-) I wasn't aware, however, that an overhaul was being done. I wasn't planning to be adding articles on other highways; I guess that's good :-) Thanks! Nyttend 13:42, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

How to make SVGs

Yes, they have to be remade. You can't just import an image and that makes it an SVG. Take Image:PA_28.svg and delete the numbers, add a new text object of the correct font (Roadgeek Series D) and type the number in it. Then hit Ctrl-Shift-C; this makes the text into a vector so it will render correctly. Then upload.

I recommend saving a copy of the image with the big 28 deleted and with a non-vectored text object in place. You can then use this as a template. Hope this helps. —Scott5114↗ 19:52, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

PA Shields

To start, visit the Commons home page. Then, register an account on the Commons and, after that's done, you can click "Upload file" on the left side of the screen to upload the shields. Re: PA 18

The best way that I can explain this is to direct you to WP:PASH, where the project standards are located. The structure section will explain the accepted formatting for all PA state route articles. See Pennsylvania Route 994 for a completed article.

For the large table on PA 18, I would be in favor of maintaining it if it included only major intersections, such as with state routes, U.S. highways or Interstates (that way it could be placed in the Major Intersections section). --TMF ^{T - C} 17:37, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Commons

Would you mind moving your directional and trailblazer plates to Commons, so they can show up all together in Category:Diagrams of road signs of the United States? You can get the images deleted from Wikipedia by adding {{NowCommonsThis}} to the image description (warning: may take months for image to be deleted).

Also, the directional plates look off to me - I believe the smaller letters need to be smaller still. Compare to Image:Ok74.jpg, for example. —Scott5114↗ 04:46, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Sure, no problem. As for the sizing of the letters, you may be right for OK's standards. Here in IL, they don't even use the larger first letter design -- all letters are the same size. But I made the plates to the specs found at [2] (I will fix this link in description section on my images, as I see it's incorrect). Homefryes 13:41, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Junction table

There should be a way to incorporate the existing template to use a format similar to that of the proposed exit list while maintaining the shading. I'll try working on some code in my Sandbox tonight and, if it works, I'll use it in the main PAint template.

Yep, all of the type shading works perfectly, so I'll incorporate it into the actual template in a bit. Also, if you need any help with the coding for an Ohio table, let me know.

The only drawback to the new coding is that it will wreak havoc on the existing articles that use the junction table as the two formats are incompatible. IMHO, waterway junctions are perfectly fine (and encouraged!) for the route description, but not for a list of intersections, which is what the junction table is intended to be. --TMF ^{T - C} 15:53, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm sort of confused here, and I think its because I just got back from a long trip and haven't caught up on everything. I replied to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ohio State Highways, where I stated I don't have a problem with customizing the route box as long as it doesn't become too long. A seperate junction list, outside of the infobox under its own heading (==Junction list==) would work with a bigger table that is more customizable. I apologize for intruding, but after I saw this idea, I had to experiment with the coding for the Interstate project userbox (as I believe that this is a great idea as well). See User:TwinsMetsFan/Sandbox2 for the coding and User:TwinsMetsFan/Sandbox for the result. What I did is I added an optional entry in the userbox code that will overwrite the default number (90) with a user-defined number (I used 81 to show the functionality). If no number is specified, then they will get the I-90 shield. This approach should work for virtually every highway userbox. Regards, TMF ^{T - C} 22:09, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Ohio Shields

{{OHShield}} now links to the new shields. Also, the Ohio junction table templates have all been made and are ready to go. For the usage instructions, you can copy the instructions from WP:PASH, as the usage is the same (substituting "OH" for "PA" and "Ohio" for "Pennsylvania", of course). One note: for the state road shortcut template ({{OHint/OH}}), the link will appear as SR X to match the infobox. But otherwise, everything else is the same.

Amstutz Expressway

Generally I don't have time to leave any comments if I'm on a roll, but among items that exist that are currently missing:

• Photos
• Sections, specifically the History section, involving planning of the highway, ROW acquisition, timing, ground break, and a mention of the failure of the Chicago-to-Milwaukee freeway this was supposed to be a part of, and the numerous proposals since that have tried to get rid of it but failed
• Exit list
• Traffic volumes

Yes, you're absolutely right. I was referring to 161 and 611. I created the list by looking only at the category page, and was not aware that State Route 161 (Ohio) was merely a poorly constructed redirect page. U.S. Covered Bridge Template

The covered bridge template that I made has some problems, but I havn't had the time to work on it. The WGCB is perhaps a great idea. But I also think it is missing important information. Ohio State Route 605?

I have a question on Ohio State Route 605. According to the Rand McNally map of Columbus, Ohio as of 2004, Ohio 605 runs from U.S. Route 62 in New Albany to State Route 37 near Gahanna. But according to the 2006 yahoo maps, it shows that State Route 605 goes farther south from U.S. Route 62 in New Albany to State Route 16 in Reynoldsburg. Review for Ohio State Route 7

If you have time, could you review Ohio State Route 7 for clarity, specifically under the Chesapeake and Proctorville bypass headings? I expanded upon both sections and added citations (some of which will have some date issues solved soon), but they kind of seem confusing. I will be redoing the map for the Chesapeake bypass soon and use some other referencing system for the interchanges, and will make a map for the Proctorville bypass. Fair use rationale for Image:OhioTurnpike.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:OhioTurnpike.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. PASH newsletter - Issue 001

The Pennsylvania State Highways Newsletter Issue 1 – June 16, 2007

Issue #1 The first issue of the WP:PASH newsletter recognizes all of the good articles the project has produced.

Project News After State Route 1002 (Lehigh County, Pennsylvania) was selected as the project featured article for June, it was listed as a Good Article. Thanks to everyone who helped the article. SR 1002 is the first quadrant route to reach GA status and the sixth article from PASH, with Interstate 95 in Pennsylvania, Schuylkill Expressway, Interstate 476, Pennsylvania Route 39, and Pennsylvania Route 145 being the other five. Interstate 476 is undergoing a peer review, a future featured article candidate. Feedback and ideas to improve the article are needed. Nominations for next month's featured article are needed. To-do list See User:Myselfalso/PA Routes for the status of PA Routes 1 to 100. Create articles for all routes and expand existing articles.

Featured Member The featured member of the month is Vishwin60. He has been an important member of the project for a long time and has writen the Pennsylvania Route 31 article. Thank you Vishwin, for helping out WP:PASH.

An important letter

Dear roads editor,

You may have noticed some changes at WP:USRD lately. Some of them, like the cleanup templates and the stub templates, have been astounding and great. Unfortunately, others have been disturbing.

This has become evidenced by the departure of a few prominent editors at USRD, a few RFC's, and much fighting among USRD editors.

After the second RFC, many of us found the opportunity to take a step away from Wikipedia for a while--as a self-imposed wikibreak, or possibly on vacation.

The result of such introspection was that many of us were placing ourselves in a "walled garden" and on a self-imposed pedestal of authority over the roads department. Also, we were being hostile to a few users who were not agreeing with us.

In fact, IRC has been the main incarnation of this "walled garden." Decisions have been made there to conduct grudges and prejudices against a few valued USRD users with poor justification.

For this, we have come to apologize. We have come to ask your forgiveness.

In addition to this, we hope to work as one USRD team from now on and to encourage cooperation instead of the promotion of interests.

All users are welcome to collaborate on IRC, the newsletter, or anywhere else at USRD.

In the future, please feel free to approach us about any issues you may have.

USRD Inactivity check and news report

Hello, Homefryes. We had a few urgent matters to communicate to you:

1. Please update your information at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Participants, our new centralized participant list. Those who have not done so by October 20th will be removed.
2. There are important discussions taking place at WT:USRD relating to whether WP:USRD, WP:HWY, or the state projects should hold the "power" in the roads projects.

References to map services

Hello. You have added quite a lot of geographical information to Wikipedia on bridges and other features, with links to map services as references. Measurements that can be done through the user interface of those services are very close to original research, and the elevation data is mostly interpolated and hasn't been published as such. I would therefore like to see these links removed. Where the coordinates come from an authoritative resource, the source tag can be used to indicate the source.
