Categories for ice hockey articles
Hi Hockeyben: Re the articles on Italian Serie A ice hockey seasons you have been writing, the one on 2010–11 Serie A (ice hockey) season has all the appropriate categories (added by someone else), but some of the other Serie A articles do not. The 2010–11 article has 4 categories: “2010/2011 in Italian sport” linking to Italian sport by year; “Serie A (ice hockey) seasons” linking to ice hockey in Italy and “2010–11 in European ice hockey leagues” linking to ice hockey leagues by year. Some just link to 2010/2011 in ice hockey with no link to Italy by sport or by year. NB: Wikipedia:HotCat is useful for quickly adding categories. Hugo999 (talk) 11:50, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Three things
Hello, Hockeyben! I have three things I want to address with you.
1. The name of the SHL Coach of the Year article. A quick look at the winners of each season might suggest that the award is specific to the SHL/Elitserien league, but it's actually not. In fact, Bengt-Åke Gustafsson was given the award in the 2005/06 season for his work as a coach of the Swedish national team. Would you mind if I moved the article to "Swedish Hockey Coach of the Year"?
2. The 1998–99 Division 1 season (Swedish ice hockey) article. In the infobox, clicking on "1999–2000" leads to the 1999–2000 Allsvenskan (ice hockey) season article. I can understand that the reader may expect to get to the next second-tier season, but I believe we should be linking to the next Division 1 season article because, as far as I am concerned, it's still the same league (only a new league has replaced it as the second-tier league). What is your opinion on the matter?
3. The Division 1 (Swedish ice hockey) article. In the infobox it says that the league was founded in 1975. Is this article only about Division 1 as the third-tier league or is it also about the time when the league was the second-tier league? If the former, I think we should change the year to 1999. This question may affect question 2 as well. What is your opinion on the matter?
Thanks in advance, Heymid (contribs) 18:09, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Heymid. Those are some interesting questions you've brought up. I'll give a shot at answering them below:
- 1. I see you've already gone ahead and moved the article to Swedish Hockey Coach of the Year. A move which I wholeheartedly support considering the award is not exclusive to the SHL.
- 2. I agree with you. Linking to the 1999-2000 Division 1 season would be the most logical thing to do. Especially considering the Division 1 template includes the seasons after the league was dropped from second-level to third-level.
- 3. The article is intended to cover the league when it was the second-level league in addition to its present status as the third-level league. I think the foundation date in the infobox should be kept as 1975 as a result. --Hockeyben (talk - contribs) 17:21, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the answers! By the way, you seem to be confused with the second-tier Division 1 seasons; see Category:Swedish Division I seasons. Per your clarifications, I think the second-tier Division 1 season articles should be put in the Category:Division 1 (Swedish ice hockey) seasons instead. Regardless, the Division 1 as the second-tier is not the same thing as the Division I, which also was the top-tier league. Cheers, Heymid (contribs) 21:53, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for noticing the issue with the categories for the second-level Division 1 seasons. I used Category:Swedish Division I seasons for the rest of the second-level seasons as it had been used for the 1975-76 season article, which was created by Swedishpenguin. If you could switch the categories on all the second-level seasons to Category:Division 1 (Swedish ice hockey) seasons, it would be greatly appreciated. --Hockeyben (talk - contribs) 15:36, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Factual error?
Hello Hockeyben! Due to the recent merger of Botkyrka HC and IFK Tumba Hockey, I took a look at the Botkyrka HC article today. You created the article, which featured this sentence: "From 2001-2004, they qualified for the promotion round to the Allsvenskan, but failed to be promoted all three times.". I took a look at the club's season-by-season page at Eliteprospects, and I'm unable to verify this. It only states "Kvalserien AS" for seasons 2002–03 and 2003–04, but not for 2000–01 and 2001–02 as well. Have I misunderstood what you wrote, or did you accidentally mess up? Thanks in advance, Heymid (contribs) 15:23, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- Check out the "Relegation round" section of the Allsvenskan seasonal articles in 2001-02, 2002-03, and 2003-04. You will see Botkyrka HC listed as participating in it in all three of the articles. It must have been an error on the Eliteprospects website. --Hockeyben (talk - contribs) 15:55, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- Now I know why you can't trust third-party sources all the time. :) Cheers, Heymid (contribs) 13:24, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

For rescuing hopeless pages and starting them on the way towards becoming articles. Resolute 00:43, 6 March 2014 (UTC) |
- In as much as team seasons at the top levels can be notable, Wikipedia is better off having no article at all rather than what was created in simply for the ego boost of "creating" an "article". If he doesn't care about his creations, I don't see any reason why anyone else should either. However, I do appreciate that you are willing to put a little effort in to start some of these pages on their way. Cheers! Resolute 00:43, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the barnstar! Such recognition is always appreciated. And I would have to concur; those team articles provided zero useful information initially and were basically placeholder skeletons masquerading as articles. However, I am not of the opinion that Dolovis's creations are universally useless, as some serve as - by definition - decent stubs that provide a few vital facts. Though I'm generally happy to improve any Euro articles that are in hopeless shape at the start - it's my area of specialty and all. --Hockeyben (talk - contribs) 02:13, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

The article 1987–88 DDR-Oberliga (ice hockey) season has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Raw stats routine news
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Andrew (talk) 09:09, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
I would like to inform you that the new name of Italian first hockey division is Serie A. There are now 12 teams in this league (have a look at the league article). Thanks. --PhilHo (talk) 16:32, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

I came across this and had not seen anywhere before about North Korea being disqualified. I am curious what you think about the source and how the page should be presented.18abruce (talk) 22:43, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm, I am intrigued by that... I used Müller's book as my primary reference while creating all the Asian-Oceanic Championship pages and it makes no reference to PRK's supposed disqualification. However I would not discount what HockeyArchives says as it is among the foremost international hockey resources... So in short, some more digging should probably be done in order to reach a satisfactory conclusion. --Hockeyben (talk - contribs) 04:39, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
- I have an old encyclopedia that does not mention it, but it also has several errors for tournaments for that age. Pretty much every other source I can find is a copy of our pages, and I don't know how to get official IIHF details for these tournaments but I will try.18abruce (talk) 01:37, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I will do some digging also. --Hockeyben (talk - contribs) 23:23, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
Suggestion
I suggest that the following edit is unduly confrontational, and since the editor is currently blocked, there isn't much utility in dwelling on the topic. In the interest of amity, and in the spirit of the season, perhaps you could consider retracting your statement? isaacl (talk) 23:21, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- I stated the remarks were clearly made in jest and that no offense was intended. But do what you will; since I barely edit here these days anyway it is of little importance whether my remarks remain or are expunged. --Hockeyben (talk - contribs) 14:41, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
